It is Thanksgiving weekend and Bella and I are working on a series of pranks to convince Emmett that aliens will abduct him at midnight on New Year's Eve. We start tomorrow with a crop circle in the field behind the house.
Today I plotted out the design with neon orange golf tees following Bella's morse code design. I am glad she now feels comfortable enough that we can be alone together without a chaperone. I know she is still angry with me for the unforgivable things I did, but she is also very kindhearted and does not refer to it often.
I have been formulating the next stage of the prank. Emmett, after a mere mention of their existence from me, plans to buy a drone with a camera this weekend. After he has discovered the crop circle I shall take his drone, disguise it as a UFO and follow him with it when he thinks he is hunting alone a few times.
I have rented a smoke machine and some lights for New Year's Eve. While we are making the crop circle Bella and I can discuss how to draw Emmett out to the field and how to pull off the prank.
Today was a wonderful day! While everyone went shopping in Seattle, Bella came over and we set to making the crop circle. The golf tees marking the design worked quite nicely for me though Bella had trouble spotting a few. With a little help she did really well though.
While we flattened the scrub grass in the field into Bella's design we talked about how the prank should evolve. We settled upon a plan of increasing the frequency and intensity of the planted 'signs' over the next month. Of course the crop circle will be found tonight, with a little help from myself.
After running through a few UFO ideas we realised the easiest way to make Emmett think there is a UFO is just to let his imagination do the work for him, so we will create a crash site and fake portal rather than trying to make something big we can fly, though I definitely plan on making use of his drone to prime his imagination in the next few weeks.
I plan use the drone with some lights at night to create fake ufo sightings for Emmett when he is in the woods alone, and also to use a Bluetooth speaker hidden in his jeep to make him 'aliens' through his radio. Then on New Year's Eve we will create an explosion sound somehow and blast a floodlight behind the trees when we are outside together just before midnight waiting for the fireworks in the yard with my siblings. Usually Carlisle and Esme go out dancing and the others have fun with firecrackers and loud things. I've always stayed inside before, but will invite Bella this year. This kind of trick would never work on any other vampire I know, but Emmett is very eager to find proof of the conspiracy theories he subscribes to, and is also rather gullible, making him an easy mark for this sort of nonsense.
Bella seemed very excited about our jape and wishes she could be here when Emmett is lured to discover it. I promised her a detailed account!
After concocting our deception, we talked about the vacation. Bella wants to do her dive off the high board in December. I found the closest pool that has any real diving boards is in Seattle, but assured Bella that I wanted to be there and that as driving is one of my hobbies, it will be fun for me. She looked relieved as I think she was worried about how to make the journey otherwise.
As always, I was brought such happiness to see Bella excited and laughing about our plans. There is no sound more enchanting and beautiful than her laugh, no light as bright as her smile. I wish we could play like we did today always. These moments are so few and pass so quickly. Each one is so precious.
Our project will soon be at an end and I am very sad about that. I wish I could slow the passing of time, that we could always be as we were today, relaxed and nearby each other, working on a common goal, no matter how frivolous. There is no meaningless time with her, every heartbeat of hers is valuable and finite. I exist under the hammer, knowing that my future will be filled with pain, sorrow and regret. All I can do is try not to waste a single moment and try to limit the number of regrets I shall have to bear.
I can hear Emmett and the others returning now, so I am going to prepare for their arrival.
