"My father isn't dead."
Sanji blinks multiple times before he opened his mouth to shout his confusion. He covered his mouth when his eyes landed on Megumi's hair. He doesn't want to wake her up. "What?" he asks in a whispered hissed. Zoro looks away to the floor to see the piece of paper next to the computer. "I thought you said your mother and father died in the place crash?" Sanji asks confused.
"I thought so too." Zoro says looking down, not able to meet Sanji's eyes.
"What do you mean?"
"I thought they were my parents, put the letter I got from Jackson, it's from sensei. He said that when I went to visit him he just knew who I am related to. He didn't know when I was younger because I looked so different. But now he could tell."
"Wait, go back. Who where those people you were on the plane with?"
"Those people were my uncle and aunt. They took care of me while my father was busy. Whenever we came here it was so I could meet him, see my dad but he was too busy so I didn't see him anyway. So my aunt and uncle cheered me up by taking me around the city, having fun. Then it was time to go back home, then the plane went down. I was stuck here."
"That was all in the letter?" Sanji asks because that was a lot of information.
"Yeah, my biological father and sensei know each other. He was here on business to talk to him and work more. Apparently he works for a very successful security/bodyguard business. He didn't know anything happened until a month or two after the plane crashed when he was back at home and we weren't there. He didn't think about it at first, maybe we were out but after we didn't show up to sleep he knew something was up. He talked to a lot of people to figure out what happened, but no one knew about me or that he had a son because he never talked about his private life. The letter said he looked for me but he couldn't find me." Zoro explains. Sanji had no words. Is this for real? So all this time the people he thought were his parents were not, and his real father was out there looking for him?
How did his sensei not know it was Zoro? He should have known from Zoro's last name. He could understand not knowing from looks, Zoro doesn't look anything like he did before, which means he looks similar to his father now. Also sensei hasn't seen Zoro in almost fifteen years, after Kuina past away. Then he has been searching for Zoro five or six years. Before Meguini was born. That is a lot of time.
It must have hurt Zoro to know that as he was stuck in the hellhole, while in the orphanage he had someone out there looking for him. Someone who would have taken care of him. That explains why his desk is broken. He would have done the same.
"Why mention it now?" Sanji asks.
"Sensei said he had to tell my dad. It didn't feel right that he figured it out. It's best to know than to expect the worst. Sensei said it broke him. Oh and that I have an older sister. She was there for him when he couldn't find me."
"What happens now? Sensei did tell him right?"
"Yeah he did." Zoro says, the green haired man fidget where he lay. "I already talked to him."
"What? How? What did he say?"
"It was before I read the letter so I was confused. But then he explains who he is, that he's glad that I'm alive and well, he doesn't know anything though, about us or Megumi. Sensei didn't tell him, thought that is for me to tell him."
"Did he says anything else?"
"Just told me his side of what happened. How much he missed me, how I look like my mom when I was younger, that's why sensei didn't know who I was, he never met my mom. Sensei sent him a picture of me when I was younger, next to Kuina. He also has a picture of me now. One I took with Sensei."
"What happened to your mom?"
"She passed away a year after I was born."
"What about your last name. It should be the same as your fathers, how come Sensei didn't know?"
"I was given my moms last name, like I said Sensei never met my mom so he wouldn't know. I can't believe I forgot." Zoro says a little upset he forgot something important like that.
"Hey, don't blame yourself, you were very young when it happened, and the trama of being in a plane crash will do that to anyone." Sanji looks at Zoro to see him nod. God the blonde doesn't want the man to blame himself for something he can't change, not anymore, he's long past that. "Are you going to tell him about Megumi?" Sanji asks to change the topic.
"About that, I was thinking about maybe inviting him to the wedding? Would that be okay?" Zoro asks the blonde. Sanji thinks about it. The man didn't even know his family went down in a plane crash till a month after, was to busy to see his own son. That part upset the blonde, always make time for family. But he can't be mad at the man. Zoro's biological father did search for him and it must have been hard for him. No way he would have found Zoro considering how shady the orphanage was. The blonde bets that the orphanage didn't have any of the proper paperwork. Plus the man must be extremely happy to learn his son is alive and well. He could only imagine how he would react to a wedding invitation. How about learning he's a grandfather. Then there is Zoros older sister. She must be happy too.
"Yeah That's okay, that spot was for Sensei right? At least now he can come and meet you, see your face for what has been years. And Megumi."
"I'll save meeting Megumi for the wedding. Thanks, for everything. It's gotten crazy." Zoro says. Sanji lays down, hair fully dry now.
"You could say that again." Sanji tells Zoro. So much has happened and the new year just started. At least they know the year isn't going to be boring. That would be... well boring. "Think your sister will come?"
"I don't see why not, unless she doesn't want to see me."
"I think she will. Let's go to sleep. You have to finish the invitations." Sanji tells Zoro as he turns to switch the lamp off.
In the pitch black he got comfortable in his spot, thinking about what Zoro just told him. That Zoro's father is alive and has been searching for him. Or the fact that Zoro looked like his mother which means Megumi looks like her too. Zoro is so far from being alone. Hopefully the man knows it. If not then Sanji got to be sure to remind him.
Sanji thought about Zoro till he fell asleep.
