"What do you mean you approved this?" Lilo asked in disbelief.
She had decided to take Nani's advice. If there was nothing she could do about the trouble Mrs. Byers has caused on her own, then she would ask for help. Something she knew she had trouble with but really needed to do more often. What was completely unexpected though, was that the Ambassador's of Earth had approved the plan going forward.
"I'm very sorry, Lilo," Knowles said with a heavy heart. "The paperwork had made it's way to me and then I received a call from some lawyer who had done a fair bit of research. Unfortunately we have no choice in the matter." He took a deep breath. "This is something we did not foresee coming. And had they not looked into this it most likely wouldn't have come up... Or it would have been discovered even later and possibly caused an even bigger scene. Nick is currently arranging transport for the experiments to be escorted off of Earth."
"Deported you mean," she said coldly.
Knowles just hummed in response.
She could see the bags under his eyes even over the small monitor in her hand. It looked like he had not been able to sleep for days. She could understand him being busy. But if they knew about this why didn't they tell her? Then she remembered that they were ordered to only contact her when absolutely necessary. Her life in school was to come first unless there was no other option. And not only that, she knew there was another reason.
"You didn't tell me because I would have tried to stop it."
"We need to be impartial in these matters," he said simply and calmly. Somehow that upset her even more. "I know how much the experiments mean to you, but as Ambassadors we need to make sure we're following the rules we ourselves helped put in place."
As much as what he was saying made sense, she just couldn't stand behind it. The way they were treating her family was wrong. And it should be their job to see that and correct it. Not just blindly follow.
"That said," he began, "Nick and I are delaying things as much as possible. He's being very picky when it comes to the transport and I am holding off on paper work as much as I can. In the mean time, you don't need to worry about the kids the experiments have had. Being born there means they are already citizens, and I sped up the process some for their parents. They should all have visa's soon. As well as for your family."
"My... family?"
"Yes." He shuffled some papers around. "Jumba, Pleakley, as well as Stitch would have fallen under this directive as well. So I made sure they would all be safe."
It hadn't even occurred to Lilo that she might have lost her close 'ohana again. Blinded by what was happening to the experiment's at their homes. She was grateful, but still upset. Somewhat upset at herself again.
"As I said," Knowles looked back at her. "Us public Ambassadors are doing what we can. But in the official light we can't do much. I hope you understand."

And so Lilo now found herself at the forefront of a protest in Kokaua Town. Something she never thought would happen or be needed. Not like this. And yet the disappointment in the situation could do nothing to stop the swell of her heart with all the support they had received. Not just the experiments and their companions, but other regular citizens were standing by her side.
"Aloha Spirit!"
"They Are Home!"
Shouts and cries pleading for the mandate to be changed. Despite being a small town it was clear just how cared for and loved all the experiments truly were. If only that were enough.
On the other side of the small park you had those that disagreed. That wanted to get rid of the 'alien invaders.' Led, of course, by Mrs. Byers who had begun this whole mess of a situation. Lilo was thankful that her status as Ambassador wasn't known publicly. There was some deniability in this. If it got out before everything was sorted there would likely be a problem. But it would fall on her, not the experiments. Just her. And thankfully the only people who knew of her true status were on her side. At least she hoped so.
From across the way, Lea stood and watched. On one side Lilo, the girl she found herself hating for a few years. And on the other her mother, someone who somehow showed so little love for her over the years that there was more resentment in her heart than anything. In a way it didn't matter which side won out on this. She'd get to see someone she didn't like lose something they cared so passionately about. But if she was honest with herself, she hoped her mom would lose. Lose bad. Any little thing to make her feel the slightest bit like how she's felt over the years. Like she's nothing. Insignificant. Not important.
But she didn't join Lilo's side. Instead opting to continue to watch from a distance.
"How can you take their side, Officer Alama?" Lilo asked distraught.
"I'm not taking anybody's side," the police officer said. "You group is far to large for this space. And without the proper permits for a gathering like this I need you all to disband."
"What about them?" Lilo pointed to Mrs. Byers group.
"They're not nearly as big."
"But they're still gathering too."
It was clear as day that some favouritism was happening. The few officer's that gathered were clearly watching the side with the experiments. Paying little to no mind to the other one. And Mrs. Byers new this. They took the opportunity to move forward. Getting closer and closer as time went on. Shouting obscenities, riling the crowds up. It was only a matter of time before things got out of hand.
"Fibber's one true place has been with the police station for years," said Lilo. "I can't believe you'd just turn your back on him after all he's done."
"It's not my choice," he said while crossing his arms. "I'm just doing my job."
Both of them jumped as Fibber, nearby in the protest, let out a loud beep. Officer Alama realized what had happened and refused to look Lilo in the eye. There wasn't really anything she could do about it. Aside from feel sad and rejected. The experiment's were such a big part of her that it felt like a betrayal to her when they were turned away.
So distracted by her feelings, she didn't notice a water bottle come flying and hitting her in the head. She fell the the ground with a soft thud.
"Yuuga okay?" Stitch asked as he helped her up.
"I'm fine," she said. She was. It didn't really hurt. Was more surprising than painful. "More upset than anything else."
Someone from their side clearly had enough however. From the corner of her eye she saw someone pick up the water bottle. Before she knew it, they threw it back towards the counter protest.
"That's enough of that!" shouted one of the officers.
Without warning, the police that had been lightly surrounded their protest started closing in. Panic ensured. People started shouting and running. Stitch urged Lilo to get moving before they got in any trouble. Thankfully it didn't look like anyone was getting hurt.

Some time passed since the protest. It was hard to say whether it was a success or a failure. At the very least it was becoming more and more easy to spot who was in support of the experiment's staying. And who was wanting them gone. Lilo wasn't sure who had started it, but people were wearing matching pins in the shape of a classic UFO. Wearing one to show support and that you were a safe place for one of the experiments if things started going bad. At least no one got hurt or arrested. That was the most important thing.
Spectrum quickly turned the television off. She wanted to see the news but was just distraught at the continued hate that was being spread. Not only that, but knowing that she may soon be leaving her family was taking it's toll. She tried to stay chipper and happy like she usually was. But it was getting harder and harder to.
Sara tried her best to cheer up Spectrum. She hated seeing her down so much. The last time it was this bad was when she was turned down by Stitch. That part still left her feeling sour. Especially not knowing who Stitch's boojiboo was. But even though she knew she was curious, Sara knew that Spectrum would never ask. Claiming that not knowing was better than knowing.
"Yuuga understand when yuuga older," she would say.
But Sara didn't believe that. It just didn't make any sense to her. Sure she didn't really understand a feeling of love outside of your family. Maybe she would one day understand. But something inside her said that it wasn't true. She couldn't say anything though. Especially not right now. With the way things were going. She didn't really understand everything that was happening. Only that Spectrum might be leaving them against her will.
"Can we have chicken tonight?" Sara asked as she entered the kitchen.
"Ih," Spectrum said with a forced smile. "Any kind yuuga want?"
"No." She shook her head. "Just chicken. You always make it the best."
"Yuuga's dad naga bad at it."
Though it did make Spectrum happy to hear. She was trying her best. And was doing a lot better with her clumsiness lately. She couldn't even remember the last time she had broken anything. Much to the family budgets delight. And her control over her abilities was better than ever.
"Gaba colour this time?" she asked as she pulled the chicken from the fridge.
"Hmmm." Sara hummed over it for a little bit. Jumping into a chair and kicking her legs. "Let's do orange!"
"Orange chicken?" Spectrum laughed. "Okie-taka." She placed her hand against the cold chicken breast. With just a bit of concentration the pale colour quickly turned into a bright orange. One that would compliment Stitch's fur quite nicely. "Don't think of that," she told herself.
Sara's father didn't really like her messing with food. The slight chance at radiation was more than enough to turn his stomach. But Sara loved it so much. And besides, he wasn't going to be here tonight anyway. Stuck late at work. So they had free reign of the house.
Even if she was still heartbroken over Stitch. Despite all the time since she confessed her feelings. She was still happy here. And hoped that nothing would change. That she would still continue to get to see Sara grow and have small moments like these.
"Please don't send me away," she begged.
As Keoni stood outside Victoria's house his nerves started to get to him again. With all the planning, re-planning, and general shakes he got over the course of the past week you'd think he was about to propose to her. Not just tell her he snagged her a scholarship. But that's just how he was. As confident as he could be, he always wanted to make sure he pleased his girlfriend. So the mere notion that he might have messed up along the way or her not liking it will send him down a spiral.
It had been that way ever since his mother left. His father always said it was his fault for her leaving. And while he never told Keoni what it might have been, that didn't stop his son from promising himself to never do what his father did.
So instead he decided to devote himself to being the best boyfriend he could. And even here, a number of years into their relationship, he was still going to try his best. No matter how much it might ware him down.
"H-hey, Vic..." he said, trailing off as said girl opened the door. "I... uhh..."
"Cat got your tongue?" she giggled.
While he had seen her get dressed up before, and this was by no means the most fancy he had ever seen her, he still couldn't stop himself from getting transfixed. A light yellow and white sundress that was just tight enough yet still flowing with a slit down the side from her knee to ankle to allow it to blow gently in the breeze. A flower bracelet on one hand, and her purse in the other. She even went to the trouble of putting on some father approved make-up. What surprised him the most though was her hair. Cut short again. Something she hadn't done since before they started dating. Part of him was going to miss the ponytail. But he couldn't deny how incredibly stunning she looked with it cut just at her neck. A sunflower hairpin keeping her bangs out of her eyes on one side. He had to look away before he gave himself a heart attack.
"Stolen completely," he said as he looked away with a reddened face.
"Well I need you to have your tongue tonight."
Somehow that made his face grow even hotter, but he still managed a bit of a smile.
"I was referring to my heart."
"Well I need you to have that too."
While she called back to her parents that she was leaving, Keoni spotted the UFO pin on her purse. He had his worn on the collar of his button down shirt. It had been about a week since the protest. But it always felt like it was just an hour ago. His mind would rush to the end chaos every now and then. Part of him thought maybe it was a bad time for this date. But Lilo helped convince him that they should absolutely do it. If nothing else, they also deserved it to help take their minds off the chaos that was going on as of late.
At the last moment he spotted Snooty take off out through the window. Seeing that Victoria didn't notice, his nerves subsided a little. The plan was in motion.
And so their date went off without a hitch. They had a nice candle lit dinner. Something a little fancier than they were used to. A nice change of pace. They were able to talk a lot more openly than they had in the past while. Really taking the edge off and lightening a load they didn't realize they were holding onto.
After dinner it was time to just wander through some shops. Victoria always liked looking at the little knick-knacks you could find just out in the town. And once one too many dates turned into an impromptu shopping trip, they decided to just make it an official date for them. This time they ended up in a small pottery shop. One that had only opened within the last year. While everything looked beautiful. They decided on a pair of matching mugs. Painted in a colourful series of glazes that some might find a little nauseating, but somehow just screamed out to them for purchase.
Finally their last stop. Sitting on the beach alone, the moon glowing high in the cloudless sky. Enjoying the sound of the waves lapping against the shore. A little chilly. But Victoria wouldn't complain as Keoni's arm was wrapped around her.
"I actually have a surprise for you," he said. Hand set strong on her. No longer shaking. He suddenly pulled her in a little tighter "Something I've been wanting to tell you for a long time."
"What is it?" she asked, surprised by the sudden force.
Before he could answer she felt the rush of wind flow passed her as her eyes caught the forms of Snooty and Jam suddenly flying through the air in a beautiful display. All they needed to their wonderful choreography was some music and you'd think they were putting on a show. For a moment Victoria forgot about the surprise, until Keoni outstretched his hand.
And then nothing happened.
"Um..." Keoni sounded perplexed. He put his hand out and waited, and again nothing happened. Instead to two experiments shot down into the bushes not too far off. "Uh... just one sec."
Victoria waited behind, curious as to what was happening.
It didn't take too long for Keoni to find them though. But when he didn't it wasn't in a state he really wanted to see right now.
"What's going on, guys?" he asked as he pulled aside the bushes.
The two were low to the ground, eyes locked directly onto him as the snarled and growled. More aggression that he had ever seen the two of them have.
"Are you okay?"
He reached out his hand before quickly pulling away as Jam jumped and bit at him. If nothing else set off red flags in him that certainly did. Jam would never do anything to hurt him. And in that moment he understood what was happening.
"No," he thought to himself. "Why now of all times?"
He spotted the paper at Snooty's feet and quickly swiped at it, getting scratched across the hand in the process. No matter what he didn't want Victoria to see that right now, and he needed it for later. Because for now, they had a different set of priorities. Jam and Snooty's final programming stage had activated.
