The end of the recap.
A\N: I pulled down this chapter because AngelFaux on gives a good point. I decided to rewrite Alluka's part, changing it so it keeps true to Killua's personality, while also keeping pace with the story.
Killua brought everyone back to the story, pushing them past the sadness, "Once they passed… I found Gon… I took him to a hospital where Knov, brought the best Nen Exorcists and doctors to save his life. They kept him alive… but none could save him… But I knew someone who could… and I was willing to bet my life on her."
"Alluka Zoldyck…"
Killua offered a nod, "Yeah… my sister was the only one I felt who had a chance to save my best friend. But by telling you this… I'm one, not only putting you in danger… I'm also trusting you with this information."
He knew he was going to outright lie about the situation, that Daniel felt like they should be somewhat truthful about the situation. But this was something he couldn't tell anybody else. It's bad enough Daniel and Gon, and by some extension, Sakura knows the truth. Iason will also eventually know about this, given the fact he's dating Gon…
But apart from them… this is something he can't trust everyone with.
The two girls offered a nod in understanding.
"She's not a Nen Exorcist per say… what she is, is a healer." Daniel didn't react, but he know he was only trying to save face, so it didn't trigger Madelyn's bullshit detector "Don't expect her to be going around like some miracle doctor, healing all wounds… or reviving people from the dead."
Madelyn was about to raise a hand, but Killua cut the thought off immediately, "That was a joke. She can't raise people from the dead. She's not some kind of genie or wish granter. Gon was in the perfect situation for this to work out…"
"I don't believe anyone could heal Gon now. What he was suffering from, was a Nen repercussion. I know I said he put himself into a coma he'll never wake from… where he could die. But let me expand on this for a second."
Killua gathered his thoughts before speaking clearly on the matter. He wants Daniel to join in on this lie, given how much Alluka's ability staying hidden, was the reason he didn't want to tell them the whole truth, "The cost was every inch of Gon's ability turned him into a weapon to kill only Pitou at the time… that's what I believe. Now, the more I thought about it, the more I came to realise, that Gon's reason for living in that moment… was to kill Pitou. Hear me out… it's going to sound weird, but Pitou was like cancer in Gon's life… it was killing him."
Daniel raised an eyebrow. He knew it was a bold lie, but he was not about to call him out on it. There was a reason Killua was spinning this lie… and it was for only one reason. He didn't want others to know the truth.
The only people he wanted to know, are those he'd trust. Sakura may have found out because he was in the right place, at the right time… but if he wasn't there, Killua would've never told him anything, "I wouldn't put it that way…"
Killua frowned.
"No, I mean you got the right analogy. Just, I'd say Pitou wasn't a type of cancer… that could be cut out. I think it's more like a poison that needed to be sucked out."
The boy found himself smile, "Actually, you're right. It's more like a poison…"
Madelyn pressed the boys "That wouldn't make sense. Pitou was dead. So Gon wouldn't… by extension, be suffering from a form of poison."
"Technically… they, were dead. Killua didn't mention this bit. He told me about this later though. Pitou in death, activated an ability. They wanted Gon dead, as much as Gon wanted them dead… they fed off each other's life force, binding them together in a way that would lead them to dragging each other to hell… hench, the coma."
"That doesn't make sense…" Madelyn frowned.
Killua rolled his eyes, "because I haven't told you everything. But if I did… we'd be here for hours."
This made the girl agitated, "Then tell us everything…. don't half ass it."
Killua sighed, "Alright. When I ran after Gon… I found him… or in my case, an older version of Gon smashing in Pitou's skull. He was completely destroyed, focusing only on his fist beating in what remained of Pitou's skull… which was a pancake at that point… a flattened, mincemeat, skull fragments… pancake…"
"Gruesome…"
Killua pouted, "you wanted the finer details… so don't complain to the messenger. ANYWAYS… Once Gon had stopped, noticing my presence, I saw Pitou's body move behind him. It was a corpse… moving like it was on puppet strings… the same type they used for the puppets I took out. Well, to a similar degree… this kind was different. They moved into a stance to attack Gon. I also moved… to protect Gon. He lost one of his arms in the attack… the same Kite did. Using that arm, he pinned the moving corpse, before using every inch of his Nen to take out the corpse."
"That doesn't explain why the corpse attacked Gon…"
Daniel smirked, "Because you didn't listen earlier…" When she frowned, the boy continued "They attacked in death… because they were afraid that Gon would turn his eyes to the King, King Meruem… Remember, Gon was still in this state of pure strength. So, until the threat, was taken care of… it was latching onto Gon like a poison, feeding off him until he was also dead…"
"But the King was already dead…" The girl pressed once more, "dead while Gon was still in the coma. So, shouldn't he have recovered?"
"Not exactly…" Killua objected, "They didn't know the King was dead. They were acting on impulse… acting as though Gon was still a threat, even when the person was dead. They had no way of knowing Meruem was dead… at least, the body didn't. Nor did their remaining, lingering aura…"
Daniel nodded, "which is why we said to think about your abilities, before you commit to them. Just in case things like this happen. Even in death, your ability can still run its course…"
Madelyn sighed in defeat, "I guess that can make sense…"
Killua found himself smiling. With Daniel's help, he helped lie to Clarisa and Madelyn about Alluka's ability. But he wasn't exactly done. He needed to explain why Alluka was a healer… "Alright, now let me explain why she's a healer… Pitou was like a poison, both of their abilities were. It was like an ebb and flow situation; they were trying to kill off the other. My parents locked her away because of this… power they wanted for themselves. Imagine having the power to sever death, at your fingertips… well… I knew the full mechanics of how her ability works; my parents thought of it more like a heal all wounds type of ability. Using Alluka's healing ability, I made her sever the ties the two had. Pitou could finally… rest in peace, knowing that the King died for other reasons… not because Gon killed him. And Gon could continue to live on, knowing that Kite didn't die at Pitou's hands… he was still alive… or should I say she. Kite was reborn as a female Chimera Ant… but at the same time there was one tiny problem… it backfired."
Daniel took over for his partner, "Gon could no longer use Nen. At least, that's what we believe right now. Nen is fickle like that… Conditions play a huge part in how our abilities work."
Killua offered a nod, "Gon used every inch of his aura to kill Pitou… meaning he no longer had a reason to use Nen. I believe… if he finds a reason, he could one day use it again, but that reason doesn't exist right now."
"So, let me get this straight… Alluka healed Gon, by severing the ties between himself and Pitou, by letting Pitou's soul no it had no reason to stay attached to this plane… because the one person it was trying to protect… was already dead." She then pointed her finger in the opposite direction, "which in-turn allowed Gon to live, because he now knew Kite was alive… so he no longer needed to destroy Pitou's entire being, spirit and all…"
Daniel and Killua could sense it coming. She was going to call bullshit, for a really, dumb reason. But they know, Clarisa will be able to help them out here.
"Yup…" the two agreed in unison.
"I call bullshit…"
"Madelyn!" Clarisa argued back, making the girl in question tense, "You're too focused on the ability, and not the circumstance."
"Oh, no… I was listening. It sounds less like healing, and more like a wish granting situation."
"What…?" Killua stared at her dumbfounded. How did she get 'wish-granting' from that story? "Care to explain…?"
"It's got less to do with healing, and more to do with granting each other's wish. Gon wanted Kite to be alive… Pitou wanted the King to remain alive. Hence… wish granting?"
Killua rolled his eyes, "Nice to know you didn't pay attention to a single word I said. ALLUKA, had nothing to do with Meruem's peaceful death… Netero did. ALLUKA, had nothing to do with Kite living… The Chimera Ant Queen did. All Alluka did, was sever the reason for why they wanted each other dead. She healed the wounds that the two wanted each other dead for… hence, why I stated it as having the power to sever death it's because… the anger they had for one another, no longer existed."
Clarisa held up a finger, "Oh, I get it now…" She smiled, "healing of the mind."
"Exactly…" Killua nodded, "she healed their mind, of the pain they were experiencing. Well, she healed Gon, which in turn, healed Pitou's grief."
"It still sounds like a full of bullshit, strong… type of ability. She healed wounds that transcended death."
Killua frowned, "Pitou was the one that was technically dead, not Gon. He was in a coma. You do realise… that by me telling you this, you're now on my family's shit list."
Madelyn freaked out, "I don't want to be killed by a family of well-trained assassins!"
As she began to panic, Killua held out his hands, stopping her from panicking further on the topic, "Calm the fuck down… my family won't find out. They have no way of listening into this conversation. My brother may be a skilled hacker… but he couldn't hack his way into these school cameras. If there's one thing, I learned… Vastorie prepares in advance. My family has no way of discovering this conversation… provided, the two of you keep your mouth shut. I don't want this information about my sister getting out… got it!"
The two zipped their mouth shut, throwing away the imaginary key along with it.
Clarisa then brought up something Madelyn said, "Actually… humour me for a second." Killua groaned, which in-turn earned a pout from the girl, "If Alluka had the ability to grant wishes, what would you ask for?"
Killua crossed his arms, "Nothing… I have nothing I really want, at least, in terms of needing a power that would need to break logic in order to obtain."
"Everyone has a wish or desire…" Madelyn spoke with a soft tone, "no one's life is that perfect."
Killua grit his teeth, "Even if I had a kind of wish that I wanted granted, it's not right to abuse my relationship with my sister, to fulfil my greed."
Madelyn pointed at the boy's partner, "But what if Daniel had a wish… would you deprive him of that?"
Killua shook his head, "I wouldn't-"
"Even if I did…" Daniel butted into the conversation. He knows Madelyn wasn't trying to press him into a position where he'll make that choice, that she was trying to argue he would abuse his relationship he has with Killua, in order to grant a wish, he has. But he wants to make it clear… even if he did, he'd never exploit the relationship he has with Killua… or Alluka, for a dream he'd rather fulfil with his own two hands, "I'd never ask for something. I love Alluka like a little sister, so even if I could… there's nothing I'd want… because I want to work for the things I want to have, not be given them. I want to be stronger… not made stronger… I want Killua's affection… not be given it freely…"
Madelyn pressed a hand to her hip, "But everyone has a wish… what would you make?"
"My wish isn't something that could be granted… it can be earned though."
The girl raised an eyebrow, "Granted or not, it's still a wish… or a dream…"
"You're right… but having someone's heart is different, to earning it…"
"Oh…"
"Yeah, oh… That's why I said I won't ever wish for it."
"Then…"
"No, 'ands' 'buts' or 'ifs'?"
Madelyn found herself smirking, "What if it was a wish to bring Killua back to life? Surely, Alluka could pull of something like that… if she could heal all wounds."
Daniel was silent. He had thought about it… but he couldn't say the truth. But then again… he could be honest, "I'll humour you… I would… I'd beg and plead… crying for Alluka to bring Killua back. I know she'd want him back too. But like we said… Alluka has the ability to heal wounds… not revive the dead."
Crossing his arms, the boy frowned, "So, instead, I'll do what my partner wants… to make sure as long as I live, Alluka will be safe and protected… even if it means living without Killua."
Killua awkwardly ran a hand through his hair, blushing from the confession. What about Daniel makes him want to casually confess his feelings to others, about his partner? What makes him want to do it every time, as much as he can "You can be extremely, bad sometimes… most of the time…"
Daniel crossed his arms at his partner's words, "I'd rather be bad… than like somebody you know…"
Killua sighed in defeat. Yup, he knows who Daniel was talking about. Illumi, a master manipulator… his older brother always expected this ideal version of him, one his parents wanted… not who he was now.
He'd rather not bring that up now… not until it makes sense "Alluka was the only one who could help Gon recover, but there was a catch… I had to protect her… as well as Daniel, from a hidden enemy. You see, the way my family works. If there's a choice that splits the family apart, we pick sides. My parents were against me bringing Alluka to Gon… they wanted me to heal Gon from where we were…"
"So, there is a catch…" Madelyn murmured, "That's…" The girl then found herself shaking her head at the thought "No… none of that makes sense. You wouldn't have been carrying Gon's body with you… why would your family ask you to get Alluka heal Gon's wounds from where you were. Unless…" The girl bit her tongue "There's something you're not telling us."
"You would be correct. Well, slightly correct. Her ability has rules and conditions. The more difficult the task, the harder it is for her to heal them at a distance. Healing a few scrapes… she could do it from the other side of the house… or this case, far underground. However, severing that type of bond… she'd need to be near Gon. My older brother was on the opposing faction… Along with my parents, but they wanted control over Alluka's power… that means… they want her to stay where she was… locked away. However, my older brother wanted her dead. Straying too far from Daniel, mean my brother could kill him… straying too far from Alluka, meant she'd be vulnerable. Sure, I had butlers helping me… but even butlers could have opposing views. I put Alluka and Daniel's safety above the rest."
Resting one hand on his hip, he spoke solemnly about the results, "I made death threats to get what I wanted. Gon deserved to live… he was my best friend. They could get fucked for all I care. Bonds… relationships… friendships… they could hate those things as much as they like, but unlike them… I wanted Alluka to have a normal life. Getting her out of that place not only was the best way at achieving that goal, but it allowed me to make sure I could heal Gon. Although, it's kinda hard considering what's now chasing us… but with all things to be considered, what Alluka has experienced within this last year… was more than she's gotten her entire damn life. Meeting Nathan left a huge impact on her… and I'll forever be thankful to Daniel for that."
"You should be thankful to my father for that, not me…"
"True… but because you stuck to Nathaniel's ideals… and not Vastorie's she has been experiencing that kind of affection the whole time." Plus, I'm thankful for you sharing that affection with me…
"I understand…"
"What happened to your older brother? Didn't his plans conflict with your parents?"
"He was probably punished… but Alluka is still here, so they'll continue to keep a watchful eye on her. Well, as watchful as they can… given where we were."
"What about Daniel…?"
"What about him?"
"Sounds like your family doesn't trust you to make the right choice. They wanted control of Alluka, so her being with you… they might be pushing that blame on either Gon or Daniel, right?"
"I could probably chop it up to my parents being homophobic... but it's much more sinister than that. They expect me to follow their rules and conditions. Daniel breaks that condition. Knowing them, they probably think in some way… Daniel is controlling me… manipulating me to do his bidding. They're probably scared he'll get what they've craved for years… absolute control."
"So…" Clarisa stepped in, "No matter where you go, you'll forever worry about what your family might do, or this other figure's moves… correct?"
"We're developing methods to stop them, but it'll take a lot of practice. So, for now, we'll continue to protect each other…"
"Did you tell Gon what you did for him?"
"Yup… then he confessed his feelings for me… I almost accepted them… like the gullible idiot I was. But when he confessed to Daniel, and about his feelings for Sakura… well, I had a problem. I liked Gon… but I also liked Daniel. Given that Daniel was willing to let me go if it meant I'd be happier with Gon… as opposed to Gon, who'd I'll be forced to share my feelings with someone else… even if I had no feelings for them… Well, Daniel was the better choice. Sure, that kinda makes me seem fickle… but I don't regret my decision. I like Daniel…" I like being with him… Killua quietly admitted to himself.
Clarisa changed the topic, given that her friend was now uncomfortable about the topic again, "What about the other person…? Who are they to you?"
"My grandfather…" Daniel sighed in defeat, "Apparently, he came back from the dead. We don't know why he's personally, coming after me. For all we know… He doesn't like how Vastorie has a family without him, so he's trying to remove us, as in myself, Nathaniel and Zaikaria from the picture."
"My father, however, is acting in-different… apparently pretending like he doesn't care about us, so the man leaves us alone."
"It's not working I'm assuming…"
"It isn't…" Daniel sighed, "The man is here… but he can't enter the school, due to the Nen rules and conditions being applied to its grounds?"
"So, if you leave, he'll hunt you down and capture you, using you as a bargaining chip for Vastorie… or at worst… kill you?"
"Yup…" So, for the moment, Killua is going to utilise his time with Daniel and Alluka. He'll make every moment count, "Due to the uncontrollable problem, that's why we're stuck here."
"Your life has been rough…"
"No… rough would be him repeating what he did earlier to Daniel… wiping our memory of each other. He has a Nen ability to put people to sleep. During that time, he wipes your memory of meeting him… but the worst of the situation… is he can and will also, alter your memory of others. He has already targeted Daniel… which was a rough, few months. I had to pretend like I knew nothing about him… I had to pretend like I didn't care at all about Daniel… all the while he flung hatred at me, whenever I accidentally brought up something about him. I had to dance around the topic… dance around my feelings just in case I angered him."
As Daniel rubbed his partner's back, Clarisa spoke, "But seeing how you dealt with each situation… it seems like the two of you are doing well…" the girl admitted with a weak smile, "You acted in a manner that kept your friends and close ones safe."
"Not all of them…" Killua sighed, "People still got hurt."
"But they're still alive… that has to count for something?"
Daniel gave a nod of approval, "He did the best he could do, with the knowledge he had at the time. Which reminds me… I want to be honest about the whole ordeal. I'm deeply sorry for all the anger I directed at you. Looking back on it, I felt myself slowly fall for you again, but how you spoke to me at the start conflicted with those feelings. I wanted to give you a chance… to allow myself to open up to you, but I was stopping myself. So, I'm grateful for Illumi for one thing… wiping your memories of our first meeting. Had you retained those memories, I feel like I would've immediately, distanced myself from you…"
"Now knowing the things, I do now, I'd have regretted that… I've come to realise no matter how many times I'd have my memories wiped of you, whether it be due to Zaikaria's actions or Victor's, I'd fall for you, repeatedly… I want this relationship, the good and the bad… I want to grow old with you… I… no matter how cheesy this sounds… I want our names to be the last thing we utter with our breath."
Killua felt the same. He smiled at the news… but what he wanted was much more than that. He wanted their lives to remain uncontested. He wanted Alluka to have a normal life, and to achieve that… it means they'd have to grow stronger.
They needed to keep growing stronger.
"That's sweet and all…" Madelyn dismissed the romantic confession, a single finger being held up, "but, I must ask about one thing… when Daniel lost his memory, why didn't you escape?"
"Madelyn-"
"No, I don't mean it in that way… Clarisa." She rolled her eyes at the girl. Sure, she'd been antagonistic during their whole story, but this time she wanted to know more than 'why didn't you dump him and run'. It's not as black and white… she realises Killua has feelings for Daniel, so she wants to know why he stuck around when it would hurt more to be around the person he cares about, than drop whatever they had to start fresh, "I mean, what made you cling to restoring Daniel memories? From what you said, it sounds like he hated your guts… yet you still tried to be with him, no matter how much it hurt you. You were there for him… even when at that time, he didn't want you to be there…"
She felt there was a comparison to be made. No matter how much she pushed Clarisa away… she clung to her side.
What kept Killua going, when he was suffering so much…
What made him want to see it through to the other end? Was it love… or the selfish need to get back what he lost?
"Hmm…" Killua pondered the thought. What's the best thing to say? He knows she's trying to draw a comparison… She's trying to grab that answer, and slot it into her situation, even if the piece of the jigsaw puzzle didn't fit her situation, "What I wanted… I wanted what I lost. I wanted things to be the way they were… I wasn't the only one that benefited from this relationship. Alluka did too… she got to meet Nathan, and he showed her want it was like to be loved. She felt the same about Daniel, as she did with Nathan…"
Killua held out a finger, "Of course, she wanted to be loved too. But we're sibling that wants the best for each other. The question is… what do you want?"
"What I want…" Madelyn fell silent. She didn't know what she wanted anymore. Her dream was to spend the rest of her years by herself, but from the stories Daniel and Killua told her, loneliness sounded depressing.
She no longer wanted to pursue a life of isolation…
But given her treatment of others, will she ever get a chance to redeem her previous poor qualities? Clarisa seemed to be acting like that's a possibility… but forgiveness is a hard battle. And for her… she didn't know her own end goal.
She knew what it felt like to be cared for… even loved. But returning those feelings was difficult. What if she lets the wrong person into her life…? What if she makes a bad decision again?
Clarisa tried to grab her hands once more, but rather than pushing her away, she allowed the girl to get her way, just this once.
Clarisa had something to say, and having Madelyn allow this chance to hold her hands, meant for maybe just this one time… she could say, what she needed to say "You don't have to decide your feelings now… some things take time to figure out. I want you to be happy…but more importantly… I want you to do the thing that'll make you happy… not what you think will make you happy."
"I don't even know…" Madelyn pulled her hands away, "what makes me happy."
"Then do what Killua and Daniel did…"
Madelyn raised an eyebrow "I don't really, want to go on a life-or-death adventure to discover myself."
"Not that…" The girl grasped her friend by the shoulders, "try new things… a new look, something that will help you discover things about your life. Change doesn't come instantly…"
"Correct, it builds up…" Daniel interjected, agreeing with the girl "When you have a mind-shattering experience like today, only then, do you start to question things about yourself… like what you want. Count the moments as they come… there are things to be discovered in the little things you do."
"Well, I did kind of… enjoy cooking for others."
"Well… maybe next time, stay to eat with us. No matter how awkward it feels to sit with us, see how you feel afterwards. You might like having the company…"
Madelyn gave a nod, but she kept silent on the matter. She had many things she still needs to discover about herself… she'll take it one step at a time.
There was one more point the boys had to bring up. Daniel broached the topic, "There's one thing we need to say… if there ever comes a time where a man you don't know approaches you, asking for Killua… or myself… you should…" Daniel clenched his fists, hating the fact he needed to say this.
No one should be put in danger, but if there ever comes a time where they are in such a situation, they needed to know, "you need-"
Killua stepped in for Daniel, stopping the boy from addressing the situation. Yes, it needed to be said, but he was pushing himself to do something he doesn't want to do… put themselves in danger at cost of protecting those who shouldn't be involved in the matter, "It's fine… let me say it."
Daniel gave his partner a nod, defeated by his lack of conviction.
"So, there's a man by the name of Victor Tempest. When you meet him, there will a time delay before you ever forget you've met him. He'll ask for Daniel most likely, but on the off chance he asks for me… send him our way. He is a threat to us, but he is not a man to take lightly. From what we know, he can wipe the memory of those who've met him… as well as alter our memories while we're are asleep. We only know this, because Daniel got lucky… Victor's ability clashed with Zaikaria's, hiding his memories instead of erasing them. However, if we meet him again, we'll forget everything we know about Victor. Considering we haven't forgotten… it's safe to say we haven't seen him lurking outside the school grounds."
Killua held out a finger to the girls, "You are to not engage with him, even if you think you have a chance of beating him… he is not one to trifle with. Understood…?"
Neither of the girls responded, conflicted at whether they should agree to the terms, or not. If they think they have a chance of winning, shouldn't they take it…? They'd be protecting friends from having to suffer while the man was still alive…
"UNDERSTOOD?!" Killua repeated himself, anger radiating off his voice.
"What-"
"NO… WHAT-IFS, he is a dangerous man! DO NOT… I repeat… DO NOT engage with him!"
Madelyn crossed her arms, "What do you expect to do if he comes knocking at your door? Hmm…?"
"That's for Daniel and myself to decide… not you. He is after us, and he will kill you if you try to stop him. We're not willing… to sacrifice friends."
The girl quirked an eyebrow in response to the words, "Wait… since when were we friends? When did we decide to be friends…?"
"Since talking about our lives…" Killua sighed, "I'd consider you a friend… maybe not a close one, but friends nonetheless."
"I…" Madelyn looked away, frowning from the prospect. She was considered a friend, to one she treated like shit. Even if it's true, she had no right to be considered the boys' friend, "Well… I don't think you should consider me your friend. I've done nothing to earn that title."
"Hence why not a very close one…" Killua mocked with a smirk, "then as your teacher, I forbid you from attempting to deal with my problems. Victor is not someone you want to deal with… I've already dealt with the side effects of trying to deal with him. We need an advantage, one that stops him from abusing his skills. If we are to survive, we need an advantage… we're working on one."
Daniel gave a nod, "If Zaikaria's Nen ability took precedence over his, that means we can develop a technique that bypasses his. The connection we have could be our strength. With the right rules and conditions, we can make it impossible for him to erase our memories… as for his sleep and erasure technique, I don't think that it's possible to bypass. So, the next time we deal with him… we must be ready. Until then, we just have to get stronger…"
Killua smiled at his partner, happy to see this side of his boyfriend. Shifting his gaze, his expression shifted to a more neutral one, "Now knowing our history… any questions on stuff we haven't covered?"
Madelyn did have questions, "Yeah… Going back to the time Daniel lost his memories, what was the hardest thing you had to do?"
Killua raised an eyebrow, "What you mean?"
"Well, you didn't state how he got his memories back, just that Zaikaria had a hand in it. So, what was the hardest moment…?"
"Convincing Zaikaria I didn't want to kill her brother. We met each other in the past, back when we were seven, roughly. Illumi tried to kill Daniel… I tried to get him to safety, only because he was one of the few who was not only, not scared upon meeting me… he was more worried about me, rather than the corpses around me. Zaikaria found me, carrying Daniel's bloody body… she assumed I did it, even when Illumi presented himself. Well, that from what I can assume… I haven't regained my memories of that time, and there were moments where Daniel was lucid, so he can't recall every detail."
"So… she had a moment where she could erase Daniel's memories of you, and she went through with it?"
"Yup…" Killua popped the 'p' with a click of his tongue, "it's why Daniel has started developing trust issues with her… and Vastorie… given that he would've found out one way or another what she did. Rather than making her undo it, he let her get away with it."
"What about Nathaniel? Was he aware…?"
"Yes, but…" Daniel smiled, "I can defend him. He was worried about me dating Killua, but then he met the boy and talked with him… with Alluka. He showed genuine concern about the two of them, going as far as to be willing to try to change Zaikaria's mind… to make her see Killua in a different light. He loves Killua like a second son…"
"That's sweet…" Clarisa admitted.
Madelyn held a thumb to her chin, "Then Nathaniel is the only one that consents to the relationship I assume."
Killua crossed his arms. "I don't know what Vastorie is thinking… he might consent to it… or he could secretly be against the relationship. Right now, getting an answer to that question will be impossible, given the fact he has ghosted us… mainly his family due to Victor's interference."
Daniel stepped into the conversation, "I believe Victor thinks that by getting rid of me, Vastorie will go back to his father… However, we don't know if that's completely true. His motives are just as hidden as Vastorie's."
Killua scoffed at the idea, "I don't think so. It's possible, he'll go out of his way to kill Victor if that's the case if he takes you out…"
"What makes you sure of that?" Madelyn interrogated with crossed arms, "It'll be considered a contradiction, considering he's acting like he doesn't care about his family."
"It's not about him not caring about Daniel… is about him mitigating the issues to get the best outcome."
"Then by you no longer knowing about Victor's existence, wouldn't that be the best outcome…?"
"I don't think so… he could've killed us without any resistance. Besides, Eifion knows Vastorie better than us… and in his words, even if he shows no signs of caring… deep down, he cares enough to worry about his family while also hiding his interference in the subject. However, one slip, and he'll make Victor furious… the man will immediately come after us."
"But, why you…? Why not Nathaniel in this case then…?"
"I'm an easier target… weaker than my father. It's possible, that Victor has a deep grudge against Vastorie having a family he cares about… but this is all speculation at this point. If Victor is controlling the narrative, we do not know his end goal… only that we must avoid it."
Daniel crossed his arms, "Is there anything else?"
Madelyn shook her head, before coming to a realisation "Actually, there is one thing. I do need time for myself. I want to think about some of the things you said…"
The boy gave a nod, "That's ok… we did bombard you with a few things. But, that that doesn't mean you should be slacking off on training. Hire a room to yourself, approach other Nen teachers, if you feel uncomfortable coming back to us for any questions that may surface."
The girl gave a silent nod.
Clarisa stuck up her hand "In that case, can I apply for you to be my Nen teacher? This is a good, interesting topic I'd want to learn more about."
Killua raised an eyebrow, "Why us though? You sure it won't be awkward around Madelyn?"
Clarisa looked towards Madelyn, hoping she'd say no.
The girl sighed in defeat, "As long as you don't bring up anything… personal you talked about with them, I don't see why not. Keep those discussions to yourself, until I'm ready to ask you about them."
The girl nodded enthusiastically, "I will… I WILL…" She turned back to the boys, eager to start even now "So, yes?"
Killua rolled his eyes. That action reminded him too much of Gon. Sadly, he's starting to miss his friend. Once everything blows over, maybe they should get together, to go on their mini-adventure. But until then, they have Victor to worry about…
And if Gon gets involved, he, and his two partners will be in danger…
He couldn't afford to have that kind of risk attached to their lives.
With a quick wave, the two girls, left, leaving Daniel, Killua and Eifion still hiding in the shadows to deal with each other. Having left the room, Eifion appeared before the boy's "Seems you dealt with the situation well… I guess I didn't need to involve myself."
"Yeah…" Killua hummed to himself, "It was a difficult discussion, including some things I didn't want to say…"
"Like the truth about Alluka's ability?" The man interrogated.
Killua's eyes narrowed, "Do you know the truth?"
"No, but I could tell you were stressed whenever Madelyn pressed for further information. But… it's not for me to worry about."
"How so…?"
Eifion smirked, "Because while she's on these school grounds… nobody could request anything from her. Whether you were being truthful or not…" He hinted at the idea he knew Killua had been lying. Especially when Clarisa stated it sounded more like Alluka could grant wishes. His aura fluxed out of rage… anger. But, because the boy went out of his way to tell such a story, there must be a reason why he doesn't want to state the full truth, "Speaking of which…" The man turned to the boys, "I want your guard up in the next two weeks. We'll be getting a world programmer, which is my fancy way of saying a skilled Nen Inscription user on the grounds. Which means… Victor will have a chance to step on these grounds. Vastorie will be involved, he'll keep his father distracted while the person works… but I wanted to warn you, just in case."
"Thanks for the information…" Daniel smiled, before frowning "does that mean I'll have a chance to question him?"
"Probably not…" Killua interfered, "if he's dealing with Victor, him coming to see you, would put you in danger."
"Noted…"
"Anything else we should be worried about?"
Eifion put a thumb to his chin, "With Clarisa's request, I can put it through. But I want to see her in person, to question her about it myself. Nen isn't for everyone to learn… but that doesn't mean I won't allow her to learn it. I just want information from her… that being said, you did well today. Keep up the good work, I have very high standards of you now… if you can crack Madelyn's defences… I wonder what other achievements you can pull off…" He disappeared without a trance, leaving the two boys alone.
"That's good news…" Killua smiled at Daniel, "we learned some things about our students. Got praise from Eifion, and a warning in advance about making sure we're safe during that time."
"Yeah… but we have a few things we need to talk about amongst ourselves."
Killua gave a nod, checking his watch "Alluka needs to be picked up in an hour. I say we have some lunch together, then while she's working on homework, we discuss those topics."
"Sounds like a plan…" Daniel uncrossed his arms, now smiling at his partner. Even though some of the topics will be stressful to them, he can't wait to talk about them. After today, talking might not be the only thing he now needed.
He felt a pull in his chest, one that made his heart flutter from the prospect. He couldn't wait to bring that up with Killua. He could only imagine the surprise on his face, once he hears his request.
