Chapter 144: Alvarez Empire Arc: Until the Battle Is Done
In the Lamia Scale camp later...
"Their numbers are just too overwhelming." Litana cursed in the commander's tent, a map spread in front of her.
"We can't even get near the city like this." Sherria remarked.
"But we absolutely must take the city back." Lyon promised. "Otherwise, the enemy will sent reinforcements in by the sea, too."
"We can't fail here." Litana declared.
Meanwhile, in the Mermaid Heel camp...
"Kagura, are you okay?" Millianna asked, worried about the swordswoman.
"I am... not okay." Kagura muttered, recalling the humiliation she faced in the fight against Dimaria earlier. "When it happened, when I was cut, she didn't move at all. We were standing far apart, yet my clothes were torn to shreds in an instant."
"Maybe she secretly used some sort of long range spell?" Risley suggested.
"Could be." Millianna agreed. "And maybe, her weapon was just for show."
"I can tell when an incoming attack harbors bloodlust and hostility." Kagura pointed out. "But I felt no sense of movement or magic use from her."
"It is strange for a mage as strong as you to get cut up before even realizing it." Risley concurred.
"But then, how did she do it?" Millianna wondered.
"That certainly was no ordinary attack magic." Ditea brought in a tray of hot tea for the girls.
"Whatever it was, it was something much more abnormal." Kagura took cup.
"Time magic, perhaps." Ditea guessed. "If only Ulyo was here..."
In the Sabertooth camp...
"We've taken too many causalities." Sting remarked, the two retreating Guilds were licking their wounds.
"There're just too many of then." Lector pointed out.
"Even so, we must hold them off." Rouge reminded.
"The front-line will collapse if that many surge into town." Yukino agreed.
"I'll never be able to look at Natsu in the face again if Sabertooth is to blame for losing the war." Sting sighed.
"And I'd rather not get on Gajeel's bad side." Rouge added.
"All right." Sting declared. "Let's pull ourselves together and launch a counterattack."
In the east...
"How disappointing." God Serena taunted, having defeated his opponents single-handedly. "This is the best you can do against me? You're all a disgrace to Wizard Saint name."
"God Serena..." Draculos muttered. "He single-handedly bested all of us."
"His magic power has increased even more since going to Alakitasia..." Wolfheim choked.
"We're a disgrace." Jura admitted. "We've failed out duty as the Wizard Saints."
"I think I'll finish you off first, Warrod." God Serena decided on his first victim.
Unwilling to simply get killed, Warrod pressed both hands on the ground and activated his 'Green Magic', instantly spouting out a massive vine wall to entangle God Serena.
Wolfheim jumped back to his feet, taking on his Beast Form as he ran and punched the trapped God Serena.
Jura conjured several Iron Rock Fists from the ground, using them to punch God Serena, August and Jacob into the air.
"Hyberion..." God Serena growled, the Vampire Mage had used his magic on him and holding him in place once he fell to the ground. "Cavern Dragon Earth Collapse!" he powered up and scattered the earth.
"Earth Dragon Slayer Magic?" Jura stunned to see the caved in crater after the attack.
"Purgatory Dragon Blazing Inferno!" God Serena let loose a large ball of fire. "Sea King Dragon Water Vortex!" he fired the water tornado at Jura. "Tempest Dragon..."
"That's enough, God Serena." August stopped the out-of-control mage.
"Did I go a little too far?" God Serena taunted. "There are no gods or kings among the dragons. All dragons will wither and perish before me."
"What is this magic power?" August was startled to sense the immense magical power emitting from the human form of Acnologia in the distance.
"I smell a dragon." Acnologia spoke.
"Never expected you to come to me." God Serena grinned. "Defeating you is the reason I ditched Ishgar and..." his sentence was cut off with Acnologia took him out with one hit.
"Seven more until all the dragons have been slayed." Acnologia continued his way.
In the forest on the way to Hargeon...
"We'll reach Hargeon tomorrow." Erza bit into an apple. "Get all the rest you can tonight."
"Where did Laxus go?" Wendy noticed the Lightning Dragon Slayer was missing.
"When did that start up again?" Ulyo inquired, alerting the older mage of her presence.
"It's none of your business." Laxus retorted.
"I'm making it my business." Ulyo fired back. "We're guildmates, after all. Didn't I filter out all of the Magical Barrier Particles one year ago?"
"Don't tell anyone." Laxus warned.
"Hey, no need to glare like that." Ulyo sweatdropped.
"It's no big deal." Laxus assured. "I just get these attacks sometimes. It's nothing to worry about. I won't stop." he promised. "Not until the battle is over. I will protect the Guild until then, even if it kills me."
"Fine." Ulyo sighed, relenting. "Just promise me you'll pay Porlyusica-shishō after everything is over. You know, as a 'just in case'."
The next day...
"Today, we will retake Hargeon!" Ditea declared. "Advance!"
"She sure is lively ever after the tormenting I gave her yesterday." Dimaria licked her lips, seeing the rejuvenated Kagura lead the charge. "But I think I'll play with someone else today."
"Sky God Boreas!" Sherria cast her whirlwind at the soldiers in front of her. "Sky God..." she charged up another attack when Dimaria slice her sleeve.
"This one is mine." Dimaria declared. "I love when girls make that face." she smirked at Sherria's horrified expression. "I'm gonna play with you like that girl yesterday. Or so I'd like to say, but today's gonna be different. You're a healer, right? Healers are a pain, so I need you to die." she charged towards Sherria, only to be kicked back by a Dragon Force-powered Wendy.
"Ice Make: Eagle!" Lyon sent out his flock of ice constructs at the opponents in front of him. "I knew there were a lot of them, but this is unbelievable." he remarked, seeing the still marching army.
"Lyon!" Gray shouted, indicating the cavalry had arrived. "We're pushing up the front-line." that said, he sent the soldiers on one side into the air with a wave of ice.
"Ulyo-sama!" Juvia turned to the elder water mage.
"You read my mind, Juvia." Ulyo nodded.
"Unison Raid: Torrential Tsunami Annihilation!" combining their powers, the two girls unleashed wide area, high-pressured water wave at the army.
"Why are you guys here?" Lyon demanded, shell-shocked at the sheer power of the water wave.
"This was our battle to begin with." Erza cut in, slicing apart the soldiers before her. "We never expected you to butt into another Guild's mess like this. We appreciate it. Follow me." she told Kagura.
In Hargeon...
"Fairy Tail actually came all the way here." Wall whistled, when he was socked in the back by a lightning-powered punch.
"You the one who messed with Freed's group?" Laxus sneered.
"Who?" Wall grabbed on Laxus' outstretched wrist and powered up a burning punch, only to be punched in face by Laxus.
"My friends." Laxus glared, his punch sending Wall rolling across the ground.
"Alchemizing copper and zinc." Wall skidded to a stop and conjured up his bullets. "Generating 9-millimeter rounds. Fire!"
Laxus dusted the incoming bullets with a stream of lightning charge. His eyes widened, he sent down a powerful bolt of lightning from the sky.
Outside Hargeon...
"Lightning?" Lyon blinked.
"We get that kind of weather a lot in Magnolia." Gray grinned. "Sunny with occasional Laxus. And ice in some areas." he locked the incoming soldiers in a stream of ice.
"I really pity the poor sap Laxus is using as a punching bag right now." Ulyo joked. "Drilling Pressure Water Cannon!" she fired her condensed water streams at her opponents.
In Hargeon...
"Not too shabby." the slightly battered Wall praised. "Now let's see here. Analyzing... the organs in your body..." he started. "You're really something." he met Laxus' fist head-on. "How are you alive? Are you even human?"
"It ain't about 'how I'm alive'." Laxus growled. "It's about 'how I live'." he slammed a punch on Walls' face.
"Just so you know, lightning doesn't work on me," Wall reminded and sent Laxus flying into a warehouse with a punch. "Think hard about 'how you'll die'.
Outside Hargeon...
"Erza, this way." Kagura led Erza towards the port and leaving the army to the rest of the Mermaid Heel mages. "There are Spriggan Twelve members there. The swordswoman, the alchemist and one other. We need to dispose of them."
"Why are you dressed like that?" Carla wondered, the Sky Sisters faced down Dimaria. "This is Wendy's." she covered Sherria with Wendy's coat.
"Little girls, do you know where you are?" Dimaria was not impressed with her opponents.
"Be careful." Sherria warned. "I can't tell what kind of magic she uses."
"This is a battlefield." Dimaria chided. "It's not a playground for children."
"You people made it that way." Wendy snapped. "Hargeon used to be a peaceful city. We will the city back from you. Just you watch."
"I show no mercy, even to children." Dimaria warned. "I could kill you in an instant if I wanted to. Literally in an instant, from your perspective, anyway." clicking her teeth, she activated 'Age Seal'.
In Hargeon...
Wall's next punch sent Laxus flying across the rooftops.
Said Lightning Dragon Slayer retaliated with a kick, sending Wall crashing into a house.
"Analysis complete." Wall landed on all fours. "His innards have been contaminated with Magical Barrier Particles, but his magic power level is one of the highest in Fairy Tail. I risk losing the upper hand at personality setting 'prankster'. Switching personality setting to 'cold-hearted'. Enhanced exoskeleton assault mode. Designating Laxus as sole target. Mark locked. Magic fusion reactor ignited. Estimated time to complete elimination: 90 seconds."
Laxus barely dodged the bullet that was shot out from Wall.
"Adjusting for error correction." Wall had turned, the missile had been fired from his palm. "Assault Wall, ready for takeoff." he droned and shot out of the building, fist closed and punched Laxus in the stomach, using his multi-barrel arm as additional boost. "Target's survival confirmed. Activating pursuit system. Generating missiles." he let loose a rain of missiles from his back. "Anti-material laser." he followed up the attack. "Survival confirmed. Generating railgun." he concentrated the firepower on Laxus. "Electric attacks are his favorite." he cursed, realizing his error when Laxus absorbed the attack. "But lightning doesn't work on me." he dodged Laxus' punch. He let loose a rain of bullets at the Lightning Dragon Slayer, both men had taken the fight to the ground.
Laxus dodged the bullet and sent Wall flying with a kick.
"System error." Wall droned. "Estimated time to full extermination exceeded."
