(After 'The Secret in the Siege')

Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.

So far, their vacation had been exactly what Booth had hoped it would be. Parker was enjoying swimming in the ocean, making sandcastles on the beach, playing with a Frisbie with both him and Brennan and taking walks along the beach to collect seashells with his great grandfather. They'd had several barbecues and Booth had served hotdogs to Parker, something his mother didn't approve of. Booth had rented golf clubs and he had taught his son the rudiments of the game. There had been movies in the evening in Hodgin's home movie theater and Ann had provided homemade cookies and fudge as well as popcorn for movie nights. Booth was sure this was his best vacation ever and he was grateful that Hodgins had kind enough to lend him the house.

Hank was sitting under the cabana on the beach watching Parker and Booth playing football in the bright sunshine while Brennan sat near him with sleeping Christine in her arms. "I'm really glad you asked me to come. I haven't been on vacation for a long time at least with my family and I missed it."

"I'm glad you're enjoying it." Brennan shifted her arms so more of the weight of her child rested on her lap. "When Parker said he'd rather not go to Philadelphia, I knew we had to give you the option of joining us on vacation. I know both Parker and Booth wanted to see you and of course I did too."

"Thanks, Honey." Proud that his grandson was partners with such a beautiful intelligent woman, he knew that his boy had finally found someone that could match him and loved him enough not to break his heart. "Hodgins' house is pretty nice. I've never been in a house that had an elevator in it. It's convenient. I'm not really up to climbing all those stairs and the room I'm staying in is like a really nice hotel room. The mattress on my bed is just perfect. It makes me want to stay in bed late in the morning."

Brennan had asked the house manager Steve what brand of mattress was used on the beds and had made a note in her address book. It was her intention to replace the mattresses in her house with that brand when it came time to replace her mattresses. "I agree they are quite restful." Christine woke and started to whimper. "Are you thirsty?" Brennan shifted her child so she could reach the bottle of water next to her leg. Once it was open, she offered it to her daughter who with her mother's help, drank until she was satisfied. "Christine is always thirsty after she's had a nap."

Watching his great granddaughter drink, Hank approved of the child's concentration. "I never thought I'd live to see two great grandchildren born. It's nice to know Seeley is continuing the family name. I guess Jared isn't going to give me a great-grandchild. He hated his father so much and he told me once that he'd never have kids to make sure Edwin . . . to make sure Edwin's blood line didn't continue."

She heard the sadness in Hank's voice and tried to assure him. "Jared babysat Christine a few weeks ago and he enjoyed the experience. He told me that he and Padme are trying to have a baby."

Stunned, Hank felt his mouth drop open. "I . . . thank you for telling me that Temperance. I'm glad he changed his mind."

Tired and sweating, Booth walked over to the cabana and sat down next to Brennan while Parker continued to play in the water. "I wish I had Parker's energy."

Amused, Hank laughed. "You and me both. If we could find a way to bottle that boy's energy, we could make a fortune."

Since Booth was resting, Brennan handed Christine over to him, walked out of the cabana down to the beach and waded out into the water. Admiring her figure in her navy bathing suit, Booth felt that since Christine had been born, Brennan looked even more beautiful and it made him proud that she was his. Of course, he'd never say that out loud where she could hear him, but it was the way he felt. Brennan was still his standard and he never tired of being with her.

"Temperance said that Jared and Padme are trying to have a baby." Hank felt like he should have been told before now, but he also knew that he didn't see Jared very often and the boy might wait until Padme was pregnant before telling him.

"Yeah, he babysat Christine a few weeks ago. He did a fair job and I guess he liked it." Booth placed Christine on the blanket in front of him facing him and gave her one of her dolls and a ball. The child giggled and rolled the ball back towards her father.

While he watched his grandson and great-granddaughter play with the ball, Hank thought about his grandsons and their childhood. "I remember Jared telling me he'd never bring a child into this world. He hated his father so much he didn't want to continue his bloodline."

"Well, I have two kids, so it's too late to stop that." Booth laughed when Christine tried to roll her doll. "The ball Honey, dolls don't roll." As he continued to roll the ball back to his child Booth checked to see where Parker and Brennan were. "Jared said a lot of things when he was a kid, but I don't think he meant them. I think he was just showing his ass once in a while. You know he was hard headed."

"Yeah, I know." Hank waved at Parker who was holding up a seashell and pointing at it. "I think giving up alcohol was the best thing he could have done for himself. He knew what his father was like when he drank, it never made sense he let himself get addicted like that."

Since he was a gambler, Booth didn't have anything to say about addictions. He worked hard to keep his gambling addiction under control, but it was a fight and sometimes he felt like it wouldn't take much to get back into gambling. "I hope he keeps it up, but he has to want to stop drinking. So far he does."

"Yeah, so far." Hank stood up and walked out of the cabana down to the beach. Stepping into the cool water, he let the water wash over his feet. Wading out further into the water, he let it come up to his knees before he stopped. The waves were gentle, but he didn't want to fall and he knew it wouldn't take much to make him unsteady.

Refreshed from her swim, Brennan waded over to where Hank was and stood close by. She was worried that he might need assistance if the waves became stronger. "I think the tide will be coming in in another hour or two."

"Yeah." It amazed Hank that Brennan knew stuff like that. "I think I'm going back to the house, take a shower and maybe take a nap. It's too hot out here for me."

Waving Parker over, Brennan smiled at the boy. "Parker, Hank is going back to the house. Would you go with him and bring back the blue bowl that contains the cut up watermelon? It's in the refrigerator? I think we could use a snack right now."

"Sure." Parker loved watermelon and at the moment he was hot enough to know that cold watermelon would be just right. "Come on Pops. I love watermelon. You can have some if you want some. That bowl is pretty big and there's a lot of watermelon in it."

Amused, Hank followed his great-grandson over to the staircase and carefully climbed to the terrace above making sure to keep his hands on the railing.

Once they were alone, Brennan walked back over to the cabana, sat down next to Booth and kissed his cheek. "I think asking Hodgins to allow us to use his summer house was a brilliant idea. Hank is enjoying himself and so is Parker . . . I do think we shouldn't make hotdogs for Parker tonight. He's had them three nights this week and I am certain Rebecca will complain if Parker tells her about them."

"Yeah, you're right." Booth placed his arm around Brennan's shoulder. "Maybe we should eat out tonight. Pizza sounds good."

"You always think pizza sounds good." Brennan laughed. "Pizza will be fine. I think a small plate of pasta would make Christine happy."

The waves washing up on the shore made a peaceful sound and made Booth feel sleepy. "I think I'm going to take a nap." Laying down, he closed his eyes and let the warm air in the cabana relax him. After staring at her mate for a few moments, Brennan picked up the ball that Booth had been playing with and rolled it over towards her daughter who giggled and rolled the ball back. "I see you're wide awake so I'm not going to get a nap. Parker is bringing us watermelon. You like watermelon."

Rolling the boll back, Christine giggled again. She was enjoying playing with her mother.

"I think we all needed this vacation." Brennan hadn't felt this relaxed for quite a while. She knew that sometimes it was important to get away from her work. It was a hard lesson to learn, but Booth had shown her that she needed peace sometimes to wash away the stress she was under working on murder cases. She loved her job, but when they had cases like the Pat Ross case, she needed to be with her partner and daughter and away from the evil that she knew existed in the world. It didn't have to be for long periods of time, just long enough for her to enjoy the company of her family and friends.
