CH 159
When they both woke up, they kissed and made passionate love before getting up and shower together where they made love in three before getting out and getting dressed and going downstairs to have late lunch. Then they cleaned the house up which took a few hours, then Sam cooked them both dinner and had it at the table while they talked.
After dinner they went into the living room to watch the news when the phone rang. So Sam got up and went to answer it, then she yelled out Jack name so he quickly got up and went to look for Sam when he saw her she was putting her jacket on
"Sam what going on"
"That was the air force base hospital, there a big emergency, I need my help, something about a big crash and avalanche"
"Ok be careful"
"I will" he walked over and gave her a kiss.
Then she was out the door to the garage. Jack watched Sam drive away before walking back inside and sat down when there was breaking news about five multi car accidents between Denver and Colorado Springs and number of avalanches, two which was where the ski Lodge is. It shows a reporter in a helicopter flying over where the accidents are.
Jack of course sees from one accident that there was a ten car pile crash, another one where truck overturns and cars smash into the over turn truck. Jack watches for half an hour seeing everything. He knew that there was more snow on the mountain this winter than there has been in the past ten years. When it was over, he flicked over to another channel to watch a movie.
When Sam got to the hospital she parked her truck at where the staff parks then she got out and locked it before running inside to see staff running around. Sam walk up to the front desk
"Hello can I help you"
"Captain Samantha Carter, I got called in" she show the nurse her air force ID barge
"Captain" Sam turn around
"Doctor, what the situation"
"This way"
Sam followed the doctor down to the staff room, he told Sam what happened and what casualties that were coming in. While they were in the locker room, Sam got changed into scrubs and put her hair up. When done the doctor finish telling her
"Ok shall we, have you got plenty of blood?"
"Yes"
"Good, lets go first helicopter showing up" then they walk out of the room as Sam puts a lab coat on with her name attached to it.
When the helicopter landed Sam and the staff ran out with the gurneys to get the patients and ran back in then the helicopter took off and another one landed. They all got busy straight away. One of the nurses was trying to understand what the name was saying. Sam heard the man and got the nurse to take over and she walk quickly over to where the patient is
"I can't understand what he saying" Sam was changing gloves
"Give nurse Hill a hand"
"Yes ma'am" then Sam spoke to the Italian man, he soon relaxed knowing that someone could understand him. She spoke to him while taking his vitals, then she picked up the board that was at his feet and wrote down the guy's name, every thing, then she put it down and checked him over the written things down.
Then she spoke to him and he relaxed and smiled at her then she went to the next patient. Sam noticed that they were running out of space so she started thinking and started getting staff to move beds around and into different rooms, so the corridors are free.
By the next morning all the patients had been taken care of and treated. Everyone was taking a break when the head doctor walked in to the staff room and look at all the staff
"Well done everyone, you all did a great job… I need volunteers to go up to the ski Lodge to help out there… but before you do, there is a chance that there might be another avalanche while rescuers try to find trapped people… any one?"
"I'll go" Sam said as she stood up
"Are you sure?"
"Yes"
"Get change, a helicopter will be here in a couple of minutes" Sam nodded and walked out of the room while the doctor spoke to the others.
Sam went and got change back in to her warm clothes then walk out to where her truck is and she got her hat, scarf and gloves. Then she walk over to the helipad is just as the helicopter landed. Sam got on then they took off. The guy next to her passed Sam the headset and she put it on. She spoke to them to find out more about the rescue and what been happening so far.
When they reach the area, Sam abseils down since they didn't want to risk the noise of the helicopter causing the avalanche. Once Sam was on the ground, she tugged on the rope twice then the helicopter moved away. Sam walked over to where the rescues are, they were digging in the area where the top of the hotel is. Sam spoke to the leader to find out more.
All she needed to do was wait, so she walked around to one spot where she knew where the high part of the roof might be. She looked around as well walking till she felt something under her feet. So she stepped back and kicked the snow away then she got on her hands and knees and started digging. Then she looked up and saw one of the men looking at her.
She waved him over so he walked over to her when he got close he saw what she was digging then he turned around and ran back to let the leader know, then people started running over to where Sam was in with shovels and started digging like mad.
Few minutes later there was a big hole five meters round. When they saw the roof they were pleased but there was no way they could lift the tiles without making any loud noises. Sam looked at the roof and she saw where it was dented. She walk over and had a closer look, she saw gaps between two sheets the she started thinking then turn to the leader
"Colonel, I got an idea, I need water and a small fire extinguisher"
"Why?"
"Here where there a gap between the two sheets of iron, if I can pour water in between them and then use the fire instingasher to freeze it, when the water freeze it will expand"
"No to risky the noise of the iron"
"Is covered in snow, it will dampen the noise" she cut him off
"She right sir" one of the men said he look at Sam
"Ok get what she needed" then people started running around.
Sam stayed where she was. She was making sure the snow saw squish tight. Ten minutes later a helicopter showed up and lowered what Sam needed down. Then the guy who got them ran over to where Sam is and passed it to her.
They watched what Sam was doing. When they saw the pool of water, it was slowly going down. Sam used the fire extinguisher, they all saw it freezing and they all heard cracking noises from the ice and they saw the snow move knowing it was the iron. When Sam stop and step back, they all watch and waited for few minutes
"Hot water" Sam said
Then pots of hot were passed to Sam and she melts the frozen ice. When melted, they could see the gap between the two sheets of iron.
"Great work Captain" the colonel said
"It not over yet sir, where the blow touch"
Then two guys stepped forward and they started cutting the iron while others watched and waited. When they removed the sheet of iron out of the way Sam got the shovel and started shovelling snow around the hole so the iron could cool down. Then it stop melting the colonel move closer to the hole with his touch and look down it then he look at every one there
"I'm going down first"
"Sir, I'll go down, I'm lighter, I can let you know if it safe" Sam said
"Ok you go"
Sam put the harness on and connected herself to the rope then she stepped over the hole and gave the guys a nod since they were holding the rope which was connected to the tripod that was over the hole. Sam lifted her legs and moves them into the hole then she gave them the thumb up then they lower her down. Sam turned the touch on and looked around till she was standing on the beam. She took the rope off and look around
"What is it like down there?"
"A lot of damage, part of the roof collapsed over where you guys were digging, I can see a hole that leads down to one of the rooms. I'm going over to have a closer look"
"Be Careful"
Sam slowly walk over to where the hole is and crouch down, she shine the touch down it then she lower her self closer to the hole
"Can anyone hear me"
"Yes, boy are we glad to hear you" Sam shine her touch down to see it was the one of the big halls full of people lying down on the ground, they were starting to sit up
"How many are you there?"
"Over eight hundred"
"Wounded?"
"Eighty, we were running out of air"
"Don't worry you will be out of here soon can you see my light?"
"Yes"
"Good I want you all to stand clear, I'm going to make the hole bigger so air can get down to you guys, ok"
"Ok"
Sam stood up and waited for a minute then she lifted her foot and lowered it down hard, a piece of wood was coming free, so she did it against and again till it gave way
"Everyone ok down there?"
"Yes" Then she did it again and again till there was a big hole
"I'll be right back, you will have air down there in a minute" then she work her way back to the main hole
"Colonel"
"Captain"
"We need beams, eighty stretchers and ropes their over eight hundred survivors down below"
"Ok, we start sending men down where you are"
"Yes sir"
Within twenty minutes there were six men, rope, equipment, and beams that were wide enough for people to walk over. They all work on getting everything set up.
"Captain you can head back up now"
"Who is going to check over the wounded?"
"We waiting for a paramedic to come"
"Hey you looking at a paramedic"
"Excuse me"
"You heard… sir, I'm a fully qualified paramedic and a first aid instructor, now I surgiest less talk more action, time is ticking, we don't know how long before the rest of the roof will cave in"
"Ok since it will be twenty minutes before someone comes" Sam attaches the rope to her harness.
"Ok once I'm on the ground start lowering thing down"
When Sam was ready she gave the nod then they lowered her to the hole. Everyone on the ground watches the best they could in the dark. When Sam was on the ground
"Ok send the gear down" Sam step out of the way, she look around to see a lot of people there
"Where are the others?"
"In the next two rooms"
"Ok" they heard the room creak and groan every one was starting to get screamed
"Calm down, we will get you all out of here"
Then equipment started coming down. Once they were on the ground one of the rescues came down the rope. Once on the ground he looked around
"I'm going to look at the wondered and start getting them in to the stretchers, you might as well start getting the women and children out first"
"Ok" Sam pick up a stretcher and bag
"Where are the wounded"
"This way" one guy said Sam followed the guy who was holding a torch into the next room.
When Sam was there she quickly looked at them and decided whom to be going first. When she quickly looked at them she saw a pregnant woman and her husband next to her, so she walked over to her and crouched down.
"Hey how are you doing?"
"Not good, my water broke ten minutes ago"
"Ok we will have you out of here and into a hospital before this little one born, ok"
"Ok"
"Right what we going to do is put you on a stretcher then we going to take you into the next room where guys who are above is going to carry you out of here, ok"
"Ok" Sam got up and moved the stretcher next to the women. Then the husband helped his wife on the stretcher. Then Sam puts a blanket over her and straps her in.
"Shall we" the husband pick up one end and Sam the other.
They walked slowly over the wounded to the next room where Sam saw a ladder and saw women and children were climbing up it. When Sam stops where the ladder is when the worker stops the flow of women and children going up.
"What have you got their Captain"
"Pregnant women, she in labour, water broke ten minutes ago"
"Ok, when your ready" Sam attach the rope to the stretcher
"Ok pull her up"
The husband gave her a kiss then moved out of the way just as the stretcher was raised off the floor and up to the ceiling. Once they got her, Sam picks up a stretcher, which is on the ground and turn around
"I need volunteers to help move the wounded in to here"
"I'll help" one said then some others did
"Ok, as soon as the stretcher comes down bring it into the next room. Please remember women and children first, check the next room for any women and children. We all will get out of here if we remain calm, ok" they nodded
"Good" then Sam walks into the next room she walks over to the next wounded.
She spoke to the guy, then two men helped Sam put the guy into the stretcher then she put the blanket over him and strap him in. Then she told the two guys what to do. Then she went to the next person. Sam was working for three hours slowly moving the wounded into the next room.
Then the hotel started to shake like there was an earthquake, then everyone started yelling in the next room, so she ran in there to see the men trying to climb the ladder all at once.
"SHUT UP" Sam yelled out. Then everyone went quiet and turn to Sam
"Look we don't need any more injuries, ok since there another hole form, the guys above will send another ladder down so we will get out of here twice as fast, so calm down, ok" they all nodded
"Have all the women and children out?"
"No, there still more"
"Ok let them go first, we all will get out of here, with all the yelling, it can cause another avalanche and we don't want that now do we"
"No" one of them said
"Good, now stand clear, got wounded coming through" they parted as two guys were carrying a stretcher through. Sam turned and walked back into the next room.
