Midoriya let out small sigh as he glanced at the aisles of the supermarket, trying to figure out just what kind of snacks Kaminari wanted; the blonde haired boy had given them a list of snacks to buy, after going around to ask the class what they wanted, but Midoriya was having a really hard time with Kaminari's atrocious handwriting.
He just wanted to go home and finish his homework, and spend Saturday morning studying so that he could make time for Kaminari and Ashido's "Game Night".
"Give me that." Shinsou let out a small laugh, taking the list from Midoriya's hands, "Urg... seriously, I hope Kaminari doesn't hand in his homework with this kind of handwriting. Okay, first up, chips."
"We still have a whole list of vegetables and meat products that Sato wants us to get. Do you think you two can grab all the unhealthy food?" Yaoyorozu asked, as Uraraka picked up two neatly wrapped packages of bacon, and was comparing them against each other.
"Sure." Shinsou nodded, "Zuku, do you have a pen?"
The greenette nodded, fishing a ballpoint pen out of his pocket, and Shinsou turned back to Yaoyorozu, "Alright, we'll just grab a basket, and find you when we're done. Come on, Izuku."
With that, the lavender haired boy gently grabbed onto Midoriya's arm, and dragged him into one of the aisles, picking up one of the baskets that were neatly stacked in a corner. Shinsou glanced around, briefly scanning over the brands of the large variety of chips, before he found the first item on Kaminari's messy shopping list.
Shinsou groaned, squinting at the next item on the list, as Midoriya ruffled through the various bags, trying to pick out one with a later expiry date despite the fact that the chips were most likely going to be eaten in three days.
"Next up... a lot of soda." Shinsou muttered, and the smaller green haired boy dumped the chips in the basket, before picking it up, "How do they drink so many sugary drinks?"
"Beats me. I have no idea." The taller boy muttered, "Then after that it's candy, then some fruit snacks. This is... a lot of stuff."
"I think we've got more snacks than actual proper groceries." Midoriya grumbled, reading the ingredients list at the back of the chips bag, "So many preservatives..."
"To be fair, we get fresh groceries twice a week, and Dad only allows us to get snacks and junk food once a week. Obviously, Kaminari and Ashido would go a bit crazy and try to stock up for the week." Shinsou reasoned, "Plus, some people in the class are probably stress eating at this point, given how much crap is going on, and the examinations in two weeks."
Midoriya mutely nodded, and started looking around for the area where the chilled drinks were placed.
"Can we get apple juice?" Midoriya asked; it was something that Eri liked to drink, and after trying it a few times, Midoriya had found that he had taken a liking to the fruit drink.
Shinsou nodded, "Sure, why not? We can pick up some Gatorade as well, if you like."
Midoriya poured himself a glass of apple juice, before he made his way to the common room. Kaminari and Ashido had already set up the laptop and hooked it up to the television. Meanwhile, Shinsou was already settled in their bean bag, a horrendously large bowl of some yellowish-white snack in his lap, and a cup of steaming hot coffee sitting on the floor next to him.
The green haired boy slowly walked over to him, and sat down on the couch, near the laptop, before he reached down and picked up a kernel. He wasn't too sure what it was... but it did five off a nice, light buttery smell.
"Try it. It's good." Shinsou looked up at him, before picking up a few kernels and popping them into his mouth. Midoriya glanced at him, then back at the kernel, before he hesitantly put it in his mouth, before he blinked. The snack was buttery and salty, but not by too much, leaving the treat crunchy, and Midoriya was surprised that he actually liked the taste of this interesting snack.
He wondered what it was.
"Popcorn." The lavender haired boy smirked, as if he were reading Midoriya's mind.
The green haired boy nodded, and took another kernel of popcorn, before he turned his attention to the screen. Kaminari had already booted up a game, and selected Easy mode, before he had to choose between four different pairs of playable characters.
"Are you sure your want to start with the easiest game of the series, and on the easiest setting?" Ashido huffed, "Don't underestimate us!"
"Ha! That's what I said, before I started playing! Don't be cocky!" Kaminari shot back, "I tried to play this game, and it's hard!"
"I don't know what you guys are up to, but I will allow it this once." Iida sighed, chopping his arm as he entered the kitchen to fill up his water bottle, "But you guys should sleep before midnight, and no more game nights until the exams are over. It's only two more weeks, you guys."
"Geez, Iida. You're not our mom." Ashido huffed, as she sank into the couch.
"I just want to make sure you are spending sufficient time revising for your examinations!" Iida replied, "After all, we are Hero Course students from UA! It will reflect very badly on us if we were to fail our end-of-the-year examinations, and are held back from advancing to our second year! This is especially so, if the reason for our failure is video games! I can guarantee that I will not bother you about this topic after the examinations are over, but before that, I recommend that you do not go too far!"
"Don't worry about it too much, class rep." Kaminari snickered, "We'll be fine! Don't be such a worrywart!"
"Very well, I shall take your word for it." Iida pushed his glasses up, before he retreated back to his room.
"Alright! Now, let's go!" Kaminari snickered, and started up the game.
Midoriya raised an eyebrow, watching as the word "Continue?" appeared on the screen. He seemed to understand the aim behind the game, but by the time Kaminari hit stage two, it didn't take too long before he ran out of lives; instead of avoiding all the projectiles, Kaminari seemed to run into them, for some reason.
"Aww man! I thought I had it! How on earth is this easy mode!?" Kaminari sighed, as Ashido gently pushed him out of his seat, saving Kaminari's score in the process, "Those are the homing bullets, you dumbass! Now it's my turn!"
"Didn't you already try the game out like.. three days ago? How are you still so bad at it?" Shinsou offhandedly commented, as he continued snacking on his popcorn, and Kaminari huffed at him, "Well, you try playing this game! And mind you, the one we played was a different game, though it was still under the same series! The patterns are all different! And this one is supposed to be the easiest out of all the games!"
Ashido proceeded to restart the game, but it wasn't long before she was hit one too many times. She did managed to get to the third stage, but that was when she was taken out in the middle of the stage by the midboss.
Ashido let out a sigh as she saved her score. She stood up, making her way to her original position on the couch, "Oh, come on! Why is this so difficult!?"
"You know, there are patterns to the attacks." Shinsou commented, popping more popcorn in his mouth, "Like, the first boss. If you don't defeat them quick enough, they seem to move, repeat the homing attack, before they move again, with the non-homing one. Maybe try moving to the side until they fire the homing attack, and then go back to attacking the enemy, instead of just staying vertically under the boss. Or maybe try that other player character with the homing attack, and focus more on dodging."
"Mido! It's your turn!" Kaminari grinned, pointing to the keyboard. Midoriya slowly stood up, and settled down, making himself comfortable, before he started the game.
He had already seen the enemy's movements from Kaminari and Ashido's playthrough, and was easily able to dodge most of the attacks. He was able to make it to the fourth stage, but for some odd reason, he had no idea how to slow down the speed of his player character, so he had to make large movements in order to dodge all the projectiles.
It wasn't fair; the opponent could shoot out so many projectiles, and the entire screen was practically filled with multicolored bullets. Why wasn't his character able to do that? Why couldn't his character take being hit with more projectiles, while the opponent had such a massive health bar, and didn't even have to dodge in order to deal massive damage?
"Shift to focus! Shift button! Shift!" Kaminari screeched, leaning forward from his seat on the floor, but Midoriya had absolutely no idea what on earth the blonde was rambling on about, as he tried to maneuver his player character around.
Finally, the fourth stage was cleared, and Midoriya turned to Kaminari, completely confused.
"You can press the shift button in order to slow down, and your attacks would cover a smaller area." Kaminari stated.
Midoriya nodded, and continued to the fifth stage, but it was too late, and it wasn't long before Midoriya's player character was hit by a final attack that ended his run.
The green haired boy's eyes narrowed at the screen, a bitter taste in his mouth, as he started at the scoreboard, his score being the first one on top of the list. He let out a small growl in frustration. He wasn't about to let some video game get the better of him. No, he was going to prove that he was better than everyone in this stupid game.
"Er... Mido? It's my turn now..." Kaminari's voice trailed off, noticing that Midoriya's eyes were glued intently on the screen, and that he didn't seem to have any intention of giving up his place by the laptop.
"Maybe don't." Shinsou muttered, "I think... he's going to beat everyone in the game before he even thinks of leaving that spot."
"Fine. He can have another turn." Ashido grinned, kicking back onto the couch. Midoriya had encountered an enemy he couldn't beat so easily, and she was interested to see what would happen.
Midoriya sat on the bench, and looked up, gazing at Togata as he practiced using Blackwhip against Amajiki and Hado, though he was pretty sure that Hado still didn't know a thing about One for All and was also curious how Togata could manifest another quirk.
They had examinations that would start in the next week, but despite that, he had to help Togata with his training. Not just as an intern to Nighteye... but because... he respected Togata, as an upperclassman. One for All was a huge burden, and he didn't want Togata to take that burden alone.
Midoriya picked up the notebooks that Yagi had written.
Yagi was a fool to pass down One for All without giving Togata and Nighteye more information about the quirk itself, or actually doing his research... but to be fair, in his defense, the man was busy trying to keep his injury out of the limelight, was trying to keep up a facade for the public, and was trying to find a successor before it was too late.
In addition... One for All seemed to be much of complicated than he had originally thought, so he should cut the retired hero some slack.
Midoriya flipped through the notebooks, skimming through all the information that Yagi had noted down. He hadn't really read through the notebooks that Yagi had provided, though they did have discussions so that their research wouldn't overlap with each other, and the green haired boy was pretty curious as to what information Yagi had that he wasn't aware of.
Something caught his eye; under the section for the fourth user of One for All who died at the age of forty, the cause of death was scribbled out. Midoriya frowned slightly, before he turned the book around, trying to figure out if he could figure out what Yagi had written.
He flipped the page, and tried to read the indents made on the previous page. While Yagi had tried to scribble the cause of death out, he didn't press the pen down as hard as he did when he was writing, and while it took some effort to read due to the other remarks written on that page, Midoriya could finally make out the cause of death.
"Old Age."
Midoriya frowned. How was dying at the age of forty considered "old age"?
It didn't make any sense. He needed to ask Yagi about this.
The green haired boy placed the notebook down and stood up, heading towards the door, just as Amajiki walked away from the fight to grab some water.
Amajiki paused in his movements, turning towards where Midoriya was, and asked softy, "Where are you going?"
Midoriya just turned to his senior, signing, "I need to talk to a teacher."
"Alright then." Amajiki nodded, "Good luck."
