Prompt: Can you do a story where the LAPD express their shock and disbelief that Deeks and Kensi are a couple and are even more shocked years later when they are finally married.
A/N: Takes place sometime early season 7. I interpreted this one a little loosely and cut out the reaction to them getting married because I couldn't find a good way to write it.
"So how's that partner of yours doing?" Bates asked as he signed off on Deeks' paperwork that allowed him to keep working as a liaison. "She still putting up with your sorry ass?"
Deeks rolled his eyes, unsure why Bates was being particularly antagonistic today. He and Kensi hadn't exactly discussed whether or not he should tell anyone at LAPD about their relationship, but he spent so little time there that it didn't seem like it would matter much. Hell, half the time most of the precinct barely knew who he was.
"Kensi's doing great," he told Bates as he handed back the paperwork. Smirking, he scratched the back of his neck and added, "Actually, we've been dating for a while now. We're talking about moving in together."
They'd brought it up once, both agreeing that it was too soon. But Bates didn't need to know that.
Bates' eyebrows rose and he leaned back, his lips turning up in a wide smirk.
"You're telling me Blye not only has to see you at work every day, but willingly agreed to date you? She must be a masochist."
"Very funny." Another detective, Raymond Borman, popped his head in and handed Bates a file.
"Hey, Deeks how's it going?" he asked. Before he could reply, Bates answered.
"He's dating his partner." Sighing, Deeks leaned back against a filing cabinet, waiting for them to finish their bit.
"You don't mean the really hot one?"
"Yup, that's the one," Bates confirmed. Borman turned to Deeks.
"Are you blackmailing her?"
"You know, she actually finds me extremely charming," Deeks told them, which earned a hearty round of laughter.
"Oh, I have to tell the guys about this," Borman said. "They'll never believe it."
"I'm glad you find this so amusing, but I have to go because I have actual work to do." Deeks turned to go and Bates called after him,
"Give your partner my condolences!"
