Prompt: When Deeks describes himself to Roundtree he says 'husband'

A/N: This is a prompt for "Fortune Favors the Brave". A good portion of the dialogue at the beginning comes directly from the episode or is slightly edited. To anon, I assume you wanted me to have Roundtree react accordingly and to have some discussion about Deeks and Kensi's relationship.

Deeks glanced at the young man beside him. On the ride to the scene, Devin hadn't said much, despite his gentle probing. It made Deeks even more curious about the man Callen and Sam had deemed, with all their impeccably high and impossible standards, worthy enough to join their team.

"So, Devin Roundtree, 20 words or less. Go!" he said when it became clear that Devin had no plans to give him a tidy verbal autobiography.

"You want me to describe myself myself in less than 20 words?" Roundtree asked, sounding mystified. Whether that was in regard to the instructions or the designated number of words wasn't clear.

"Now you only got 8 left." Roundtree laughed as they walked down to the car.

"9 actually." Deeks briefly imagined Sam's expression if he heard the two of them debating the number of words he'd used. He held back a smirk; it would be fun to "corrupt" Sam's perfect protégée. Not that he planned to, but it certainly would be fun.

"I was thinking of 20 as a word, not a number," Deeks explained.

"Well, in that case, 10."

"Wow, look at that! Doing some math in the morning. Respect!" He thought he got a tiny smirk out of Roundtree for that, but he still didn't volunteer any personal information. "Alright, I'll go first," Deeks decided. "Cop, surfer, lawyer, husband–not in that order–California Native." He ticked each point of on his fingers.

"You're married?" Roundtree asked, eyes sliding down to Deeks hand. Wiggling his bare ring finger, Deeks grinned and said,

"Yup, just a little over a year now." He didn't bother to try and cover the pride in his voice.

"Wow…" Devin shook his head, looking impressed. "And I can't maintain a relationship for more than a month."

"Well, I'm not saying it was easy. Kensi and I both had to work through a lot before we even considered marriage," he told Devin who actually did a double take. Coming to a sudden stop, he put his hand up in a halting gesture.

"Hold on a minute. You're married to Agent Blye," he asked, sounding shocked. Deeks nodded cheerfully. "The same Agent Blye who's also your partner?"

"Yup. She definitely put a ring on it. And I mean that literally, since she proposed to me."

"That's progressive.

"Yeah, well I'd already proposed twice, technically three times, although the first time I didn't actually have the ring. Anyway, I guess it was Kensi's turn," Deeks explained.

"You proposed three times?" Roundtree asked, shaking his head in amazement. "Man, I think I'd give up after the first, definitely the second." Deeks chuckled at that; he certainly had been persistent with Kensi.

"The first time didn't really count, because it was more a joke than anything. The second time, Kensi was in a coma and the third, well, that was, uh, a really good example of not reading the room on my part."

"I'm starting to think your entire team is slightly crazy," Roundtree commented, sounding a little dazed.

"Now you're catching on," Deeks said cheerfully. "Hey, when we get done today, you should come over to our bar, the Squid and the Dagger."

"And you have a bar. Of course you do." Roundtree didn't really seem to be talking to Deeks, but he responded anyway.

"We spend at least a couple nights there a week." Deeks patted him on the shoulder and added, "You'll love it. And you can try out our beer of the month. It's infused with anise."

"I don't really like anise…"

"Then you can have the durian. For some reason it wasn't a big seller last month." Devin started to say something, but he interrupted again. "So, 20 words or less. Tell me about yourself."
