"Alice Homura has been disqualified!" That voice belonged to Count Waltz. Everyone was stunned at the scene before them. Never did they expect an actual disqualification so soon after the Midi incident, yet here it was. Edna, Alice, and even Rajaron stared in widened shock at what happened. Rajaron and Alice were about to clash with each other, but Nasir stepped in the way at the last second, their claws piercing his body in horrible locations. Rajaron's hand went through his back, but Alice was the one who scored the fatal hit to his heart. As a result, the wind dragon coughed up an obscene amount of blood.
"W-What…?" Alice's hand shook. The disqualification announcement didn't register. She had been doing her best to reel in her power so she wouldn't kill anyone. But Nasir threw himself into the middle of this fight. "What did you…?"
"Foolish dragon…you were my next foe!" Rajaron scowled, showing no sympathy for the fool who leapt into harm's way. "Why in the world would you do this!?"
"You two…would kill each other…if this battle continued. I had to stop it…no matter what…" Nasir coughed. "The royal siblings need to see their brother, and Venoma needs to see her sister once more…if my life must be sacrificed, so be it. I've seen what the loss of a sibling can do to people…" His eyes weakly wandered to Edna, who couldn't say anything, but only watch in horror. "I believe in the both of you…" And those were his last words as his body slumped over, motionless and lifeless.
"Y-You're a fool…nobody had to die…." Edna choked back some tears. With Nasir now dead from his own actions and Alice as the responsible party, she was forcefully ejected from the competition before she could truly wrap her head around the situation. She had no chance to process what happened before she was teleported out of the battlefield.
"Well, this was an unexpected turn of events…" Ice tapped her chin. "I wasn't expecting an actual death; I thought the situation would be a strong deterrent…what happens now, Count Waltz?"
Waltz sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. This was bad rep for the tournament but he had to act accordingly. "Alice is disqualified…and Alvarez will be unable to gain any points for one hour, even if they do take part in a battle. The points they yield will either be void, or simply go straight to their partner if they are forced into an alliance battle. As for Bosco…there is nothing that can substitute a lost life, but the best I can do for them is grant them 10 points, for the loss of their team member and the technical 'defeat' of Alice."
"Fwahahaha! Now that is quite funny." Ashnard was definitely laughing at Alvarez's folly, even though this was solely on Nasir for acting so rash. "A whole hour of sitting uselessly? I suppose that's nothing new for Alvarez."
"Kch…" Emeraude grit her teeth. This was not a situation she was expecting to be in…even worse that it was on Alice. But Emeraude didn't blame Alice for this; anyone could see it wasn't her fault. But the result was still the same, so she simply had to bear the responsibility for Alvarez's mistakes.
"RAAAAAH!" Rajaron let out a loud roar of frustration. His tail slammed onto the ground, creating a tremor as he was robbed of his prey in an instant. "Damn you, Nasir!" Growling, he turned to Edna, the only other dragon present. "YOU! You will be my next opponent then! I will claim victory over a dragon if it is the last thing I do!"
Edna's heartbroken, angry gaze was directed towards Rajaron. "Is that all you care about!? Fighting dragons!?"
"Yes." Rajaron responded with a snarl. "I already told you my goal. So I will use you as a stepping stone!" The dragon prince pushed forward, flying towards Edna with the sole intention of fighting her.
Edna, however, didn't want to be part of any of this right now. She slammed her foot on the ground, numerous crystals rising up suddenly. Before Rajaron could even get too close, he was entrapped by crystals and completely frozen solid. "Crystal Prison." Not even the Dragon Prince of the Isle would be able to break free from this so easily. "Your siblings deserve better than you."
"Incredible! Edna just froze Rajaron solid…!" Chapati exclaimed. "Eh…what happens at this point?"
"He better break out." Ashnard narrowed his eyes.
"Feeling a little antsy about something?" Calium was poking fun at Ashnard's shift in tone. It was all fun and games until Pergrande was put at risk again. "It's rare to see you like that."
"Hardly." Ashnard scoffed.
"Well…if Rajaron is unable to break out within a few hours, then the victory will go to Bosco." Waltz explained. "Actually, looking at the clock now…we've reached a decent point. I wouldn't say we're halfway, but it is the afternoon now. With Rajaron's imprisonment, we also have 52 contestants remaining…"
Julius sucked his teeth in annoyance. A 1 hour suspension from gaining points because some idiot ran into Alice's attack? That wasn't an outcome he was expecting… "I see we're being held up by a fool. An unfortunate setback, but not one that will stop us entirely." Julius opened his book, pages flipping automatically to activate another spell. "All Seeing Eye." A magic seal appeared in front of Julius and within his eye; the magic circle displayed a map of Joya, specifically honing in on the magical signature of the Spriggan, just so he could see their status and locations. "Excluding Alice, everyone is still moving and active…" That thought came to a pause when he noticed Brandish's mark in Crown City. It hadn't moved in…hours. "What is she doing…" Everyone knew Brandish was lazy, but this was something entirely different. Something about this wasn't right. So Julius enhanced the view on Brandish's location, seeing her asleep in a house somewhere. "Tch…wait…she's not asleep…she's…"
"And what's this!? It seems like Brandish Myu has been unconscious this whole time!?" Chapati exclaimed. Brandish wasn't asleep, but a closer inspection of her face showed she was out cold.
"Did she sleep too much?" Helena asked.
"That would be the work of Aki." Ashnard said smugly. "She must have fallen asleep…and when you're asleep, you are at the mercy of the Nightmare Dragon slayer. His power, while not good for much can at least incapacitate foes while they are asleep. It seems she lost the battle. A good thing too…a mage like that wandering around freely is an issue. I'm glad to have nipped that threat in the bud."
"Brandish…!" Emeraude couldn't believe this. First Alice, now Brandish? Her carefully laid plan was starting to fall apart. Brandish was undoubtedly going to be a key player in Alvarez's victory, but this put a wrench in those plans. Plus she was concerned for Brandish's safety and wellbeing as well. At least Ashnard had to acknowledge that Brandish was a threat…
"Darn it, Randi…of all times to fall asleep, you chose the worst one…" Dimaria mumbled.
Julius closed his book. Brandish's defeat was another setback, but he wasn't going let this stop Alvarez. "I will be the one to win this for Her Majesty. I will not allow Alvarez's name to be tarnished by such underhanded techniques." And so, the Prince of Magic began to walk off, his resolve to win for Emeraude's sake silently burning within him.
Kagura was resting against a tree. Her battle against Renae was a hard one and she barely managed to come out on top. The worst part about this was there was no way for her wounds to heal even a little bit faster. Fiore's team was lacking a healer as were most of the others. It was a risky ploy now that she thought about it, but it couldn't be helped. "I can't stay down for too long, the others need my help…" But she wasn't granted this rest period for very long, as someone else encountered her.
"Well now, what have we here?" Medusa tilted her head. Kagura went on high alert and immediately stood up, but she wasn't fooling anyone with those wounds. "An injured Mermaid? What a treat."
"Another one from Minstrel…" Kagura grit her teeth. This looked like Medusa's first encounter with anyone since the event started, so seemed like this was going to be an uphill battle for Kagura. "You should know a wounded Mermaid is at its most dangerous. It's claimed even the likes of Tigers and Fairies."
"Is that so?" Medusa lifted a brow. Kagura was talking big for someone who could barely stand. "That's good for you. However, I believe it's prompt you remember your place in the food chain. You were lucky to have dealt with a Martell the way you did…but you had some aid, didn't you?"
Kagura pointed her sword at Medusa. Even though injured, her gaze was unyielding. "I don't rely on luck."
"Oh, how frightening." Medusa said in a faux tone, a few snakes within her hair hissing at Kagura. "But if you think pointing a sword at me terrifies me, you've another thing coming. That mummy's girl points her blade at me all the time and I've gotten quite used to it. It's a shame, though…when I heard there was another all-female guild in the country, I was hoping the strongest woman there would be a bit more…worthwhile. I doubt you even hold a candle to Mummy's Girl, especially in your condition." Medusa sighed. "Leave it to me to clean up a Martell's mess…I'm not their backup…"
Kagura narrowed her eyes. Medusa was enjoying talking down to her. With the grip on her hilt tightened, Kagura used her gravity change to make herself lighter. This, on top of her natural high speed, made her a force to be reckoned with even in her injured state. "You'll see how fierce a Mermaid can be when I devour you!" She reached Medusa within the blink of an eye, swinging her sword for the doctor's torso. But she was surprised when her blade was stopped; one of the snakes in Medusa's hair caught the blade within its teeth. "…!"
Medusa had a bored look. It was like her words went in one ear and out the other. "Didn't you hear me just a moment ago? I already told you…when it comes to swordswomen; I know exactly how to deal with you." Medusa then slammed her heel into Kagura's stomach, sending her flying into a nearby tree. "The Mermaid is prime prey for my snakes."
Reve was still stuck with Shade within his shadow. There wasn't anything he could do at the moment about this unwanted guest. He needed to think of a plan to eject him from his shadow…and Reve wasn't exactly looking for the help either. He was confident he could do this on his own. "You're comfortable there, aren't you?"
"Isssss there a problem?" Shadow spoke to Reve, the glow of his eyes visible from Reve's shadow's head. "Once the ssssssun goesssss down, you're all mine…"
"Yeah, because you're afraid of a little light." Reve said, staring up at the sky. The sun was overhead and he intentionally chose an area with no shade. He recalled from the Grand Magic Games that Shade didn't do well in the sunlight. That one weakness was being exploited for as long as Reve could manage. "You can't risk attacking me while the sun is right above you like that. I remember how you panicked last time it got too bright."
"…I cannot deny that…" Shade would shrug if he could. "But the moment you take a falsssse sssssstep…"
"Do you know who I am?" Reve turned back to stare at his shadow, or Shade to be more precise. "I'm Reve Volver." His confidence would never die, no matter the situation. He firmly believed that he would be the one making Shade eat his own words before this tournament was over. Wizard Hunter or not, nobody could try and hide in his shadow and expect to surpass him. That's just not how things worked.
Gray was thrown back by a fiery explosion. The ice devil slayer tumbled along the ground before coming to a halt in a crouched position. Brax wasn't taking him seriously and that annoyed him, so his best option was to make Brax see how strong he was. "Ice Devil Zeroth's Destruction Bow!" Gray formed a bow and arrow within his grip, firing off the arrow at high speeds towards Brax. It soared through the flames, maintaining its form even in the scorching hot temperatures.
Brax liked this. It had been a while since an ice mage was capable of attacking him within his flames. "That's more like it! Fire Spin!" Brax threw his chakrams forward, one after the other. The first chakram completely shattered the arrow of ice, much to Gray's surprise. The second one struck Gray directly, spinning around him and entrapping him within a tornado of flame.
"Kch!" Gray snarled, feeling the fire burn away at him. It was hot, but he could withstand it. "You think these embers can burn me!?" Gray stuck his hand out, emitting a powerful burst of ice to freeze and shatter the fiery tornado. "I deal with fire hotter than this on a daily basis!" Gray then inhaled before throwing his head forward, exhaling in the process. "Ice Devil's Rage!" A powerful torrent of devil slaying ice shot from his mouth, moving directly towards Brax.
Brax grinned, twirling his chakrams around before putting them together, rearing his arms back, and throwing them forward. "Blazing End!" The two weapons twirled around into a ring of fire that blasted through the Ice Devil's Rage. Gray didn't even have the chance to defend himself as the attack struck, throwing him backwards once again.
"Agh!" Gray hit the ground, but was quick to get up. He couldn't stay down for too long, but Brax really was in an entirely different league. "Damn…"
"Come on, do you really think you can save someone like that?" Brax asked mockingly. Gray was currently doing no better than those at Blue Pegasus. "Or are all you Fairy Tail mages just talk?"
Gray wasn't going to take that. His fist slammed into his palm and a chilling wind blew, even within the flames surrounding them. "Ice Devil's Impact!" A hammer of ice appeared above Brax, moving down to slam him into the ground of the Christina. But Brax was able to block this easily, the ice slowly melting from the heat of his Chakrams.
"Is that it!?" Brax taunted.
"Not even!" With a smirk, Gray then slammed his hand into the ground. "Ice Make: Geyser!" It happened so fast; a trail of ice rapidly spread across the ground before reaching Brax, striking and entrapping him within a large glacier that broke a part of the Christina. "Oops…they're definitely gonna bill that to the guild…"
Not even seconds later did Brax break free from the icy prison, leaping down to strike Gray with his Chakrams. "Was that a small chill? I didn't feel it!"
"Ice Make: Shield!" Gray threw his hands forward to create a shield in front of him. The shield only lasted one hit, as the second hit completely shattered and sent Gray backwards once again. He was tired of getting thrown around like this, so he made a bold move. His hand rested at his side and he waited for Brax to come in. "Ice Devil Zeroth's Longsword!" Gray swiftly evaded the incoming strike, slipping past Brax while unsheathing his blade of ice, landing his first direct hit on the Commandant.
"Gnk…!" Brax bit his tongue, grimacing as Gray managed to leave a mark on his shoulder and draw blood. That hurt a bit more than he expected.
"Got you." Gray turned around, giving Brax a smug grin.
"Getting cocky over a single hit? In case you've forgotten, you've been on the backfoot this whole time!" Brax ran towards the ring of flame surrounding them, dashing along it before leaping high into air, well over Gray's head. "Prominence Revolt!"
"..!" Gray's eyes widened. He knew whatever was coming was about to hurt. "Ice Make: Coccon!" Gray quickly wrapped himself in a shell of ice, but it was no defense against Brax's attack. He slammed down on top of Gray's shell, a pillar of fire destroying the ceiling of the ship and Gray's defenses. Gray was burned and thrown into a nearby wall. "Oof!"
Brax wasn't done yet. His Chakrams spun around Gray, entrapping him within yet another fiery tornado, this one much stronger than the last. "Flame Nova!" These flames exploded on Gray, practically forcing him into the ground. Despite Gray's best efforts, he really was no match for Brax alone and Brax was hoping he'd see that. With Gray down on the ground, on his back, Brax slowly approached him and stepped on his chest, applying a lot of pressure. "Don't you get it now?"
"G-Get what?" Gray grunted, grabbing Brax's ankle in an effort to pry him off.
Brax wasn't budging. Instead he just put on more pressure, attempting to break Gray's bones. "Pergrande has some of the strongest Wizards in the world. I'm the son of Rubicante, one of the Four Generals of Pergrande. That means I'm one of the strongest wizards in the world! A mage from a backwater country like Fiore has no place attempting to fight me! You're all weak! Why do you think Fiore's going to lose the tournament and everything they've worked for!? Because they're not prepared for what the world outside of that small country can do! There's nothing you alone can do to stop me either! All you did was walk right into your own death!"
Before Brax could say anything else, Wendy and Cynthia slammed their feet into his chest. The burst of fire and wind sent him staggering away from Gray. The two girls landed in front of Gray in battle ready positions along with Juvia. "Good thing he's not alone!" Wendy exclaimed.
"What are you three doing back here!?" Gray asked, sitting up.
"How did you even get in!?" Brax snarled. "This ring of flame doesn't let anyone in or out!"
That's when Cynthia spoke up. "What? You really thought fire was going to keep me out?" She snickered, patting her stomach. "Your flames taste kinda good…which is nice, I was getting a little hungry too."
"Slayers…" Brax spat.
"Blue Pegasus is safe with the Exceeds." Juvia told Gray. "Juvia thought about it…but she didn't want Gray-sama battling alone! I realized how selfish Gray-sama was being!"
"Selfish…?" Gray tilted his head. "But I was just…"
"You always do this!" Cynthia pointed at Gray. "And I know this because I'm guilty of it too! You're trying to shoulder a burden alone again. I know you want to help Mii, because we want to, too! But we all want to help her together! So let us help you do this!"
"Please, Gray-san!" Wendy balled her hands into fists. "We can do this together, because that's what family is all about! You don't have to shoulder that weight all by yourself. Winning alone or with some help…does it really matter?"
"We will fight with you, Gray-sama! Juvia will not allow any more harm to come to her beloved! I don't…want to lose you again…" Juvia's gaze fell a bit. She looked at his wounds and knew she made the right decision to come here. Brax was too strong for them individually, but that was nothing new. When they were together, they could truly take on anything.
"…" Gray was speechless. He really did make such a habit of going to the extreme while on his own. It was a good thing he had these guys to pull him back and make him reflect on his actions. With a soft sigh, he managed a slight smile. "Yeah…I do that a lot, huh? Sorry for worrying you…I just get so worked up…"
"Yeah, you do." Cynthia patted Gray on the back. "I know exactly how you feel…we know you wanna beat this guy and we want to help. We won't get in your way…but if we think you need help, or if you're asking for us to help, we will."
"Thanks guys…" Gray laughed a bit. He needed that reminder.
"Are you done with the family hug?" Brax yawned. This was putting him to sleep. "It doesn't matter how many of your team up against me; you're all not strong enough to deal with me."
"We'll see about that!" Wendy lifted her hand into the air. "All ability raise: Deus Eques!" A light shrouded her, Gray, Juvia, and Cynthia all at once to increase their battling capabilities. This powerful support spell felt…much stronger than usual for Wendy. Even she was taken aback by how effective it felt. "W-Whoa, that's more power than usual…!"
"This is…incredible." Gray stared at his hands in awe. "I feel like I can take this guy on now!"
"You, take me on!? Don't make me laugh!" Brax said while laughing. But in the next instant, he felt Gray's icy fist strike his cheek. He had no time to register what happened; one second he was on his feet and the very next, his back slammed into a wall. "GAH-!?"
"And THAT's for shit talking Fairy Tail!" Gray said while cracking his knuckles. Behind him, Wendy, Cynthia, and Juvia stood ready to fight. "I got a dozen more of those to deliver for all of your other insults as well! It's time for round 2!"
The security at Crown Castle was no match for the former members of Oracion Seis. For this operation they were all going by their former codenames, and Racer was easily taking out any guards who even had a hint of their existence. "This is too easy!" Racer laughed.
"Be quiet." Angel shook her head. "We're not here to draw the attention of the entire world, you know."
"But they can hear us." Cobra said. "I can hear them coming. The Wizard Hunters."
"So fighting them is unavoidable…" Yukino bit her lip. "But how are we supposed to free the others if we're busy fighting?"
"That's why you're here." Cobra pointed at Yukino. "We'll handle the Wizard Hunters. You go free Ultear and Meredy…and Zelos? I can hear his voice down below as well."
"Zelos-sama? He was captured as well?" Yukino frowned. She wondered what could've happened. But there was no time to answer any questions, for Weavile appeared from seemingly thin air, moving to strike Yukino. But Cobra intercepted him. "Ah…!?"
"And they've arrived already." Cobra narrowed his eyes, but grinned at the same time.
"We got word of unwelcome guests in the area." Aeon said while adjusting his tie. "So it's our job to stop any and all intruders."
"Even if you wanted to retreat, you don't have that option." Crash said while standing next to his partner, arms folded over his chest.
"Well, looks like we've gathered quite a crowd…" Midnight said with a yawn.
"The now liberated members of Crime Soricere…" Marta pushed her glasses up. "I'm not surprised to see you! Learning that your former comrades were captured would have obviously lured you in."
"Former comrades? It's not like that. They ARE our comrades, even now!" Hoteye corrected Marta. "And as their friends, we must rescue them! It is as simple as that!"
"And we would appreciate it if you gave them back." Angel huffed.
"I'm afraid we cannot do that." Cain said while stepping into view. With Lucia and Yeager participating in the tournament, he was the next person in charge of the Wizard Hunters. "We caught them fair and square. They will be executed under the laws they have broken while here in Joya. Attempting to rescue prisoners is a crime, you know?"
"Funny…because we're used to breaking the law." Racer said with a smug grin.
"Go, Yukino!" Angel told her sister. "We'll hold them off!"
"Okay! Be safe!" Yukino nodded and started to run off. The prison was down below, so she needed to find a path downstairs.
"Oh no you don't!" Aeon pointed his arm forward, a white magic circle appearing in front of his palm. "A-Cannon!" A white sphere shot out from the seal, moving to strike Yukino. This attack was always dangerous because it instantly rendered the target unconscious. But the moment the sphere flew from Aeon's hand, Racer moved, kicking it into the nearby wall. "Huh!?"
"Too slow." Racer replied.
"It appears they are seeking a fight…" Weavile told the others.
"Then it's a fight they're gonna get!" Marta had all of her magical items at the ready. As the anti-mage specialist of the Hunters, she wasn't planning to let these former criminals go.
"So be it." Cain shook his head. "We'll stomp you out here and now and be done with it. Even if our best members are occupied, that doesn't mean the rest of us aren't fit for the job of bringing you down."
"I'd like to see you try." Angel laughed, glancing to Cobra, Midnight, Hoteye, and Racer behind her. "You have no idea how brutal the five of us can really get."
To that, Cain just smiled, looking at Weavel, Aeon, Crash, and Marta. "Funny…you took the words right out of my mouth.
