January 25

This morning when I woke up, I glanced over at my husband who was still fast asleep. I was up a little early but it was his special day so I wanted him to sleep as much as he wanted to.

Then Moroha started to whine so I quickly went over to pick her up. "Shh, it's okay, my love," I whispered, trying not to wake Yasha up.

Of course, with his hearing, he was already up. I swear, even when he's asleep he's listening for Moroha.

"Kagome, is she okay?" he said sleepily from where he was still laying in bed.

"She's fine, honey. Don't worry." I went over and kissed him. "I'll take care of her, love. You go back to sleep."

He must have been very tired because he didn't object. "Okay…" He pulled the blankets back over him and drifted off to sleep again.

After I changed and fed Moroha, I started working on a special birthday breakfast for Inuyasha. I also grabbed his gift from where I was hiding it in my desk drawer. I'd been very excited to give it to him all week.

When I was done, he finally emerged from the bedroom yawning and stretching.

"Happy birthday, Yasha!" I exclaimed. I went over and gave him a big hug and kiss.

"Thanks, Kagome!" he said as he happily gave me many kisses. "I love you, sweetheart."

"I love you too. Come have breakfast."

He gave Moroha a hug and kiss and then sat down to eat. "This is great, baby."

"I also got you a gift," I said as I handed it to him.

"Neat."

I watched anticipation as he unwrapped it and inside was a mug that read "World's Best Dad."

"I love it, Kagome!" he said when he saw it.

I gave him a kiss. "I'm glad. You really are the world's best dad."

"I love you so much," he said as he kissed me again. "I've gotta start using this. I'm gonna make some tea."

We spent the rest of the morning together and Miroku and Sango came over with their kids and Shippo and Rin came over as well later in the afternoon. They all brought gifts for Inuyasha. We sang happy birthday to him and sat around while he opened them.

The whole time I eyed Miroku and Sango. They were sitting close together and nothing seemed to be amiss at the moment. I wondered if they had talked everything over. But I knew it wouldn't be a good time to bring it up, especially the conversation I'd had with Reyna.

Rin handed Inuyasha an extra card. "Lord Sesshomaru asked me to give this to you. He had an important meeting today so he couldn't come over."

"That was nice of him," Miroku said as Inuyasha opened the card.

"What does it say?" I asked.

"It says 'Happy birthday, brother. I hope you enjoy your day and that you and your family are doing well. I'll see you soon,'" Inuyasha read.

"How nice!"

"I remember all those times where you and Sesshomaru tried to kill each other," Shippo said. "I guess you're best friends now?"

"Keh!" was Inuyasha's only response. He and Sesshomaru were actually good friends now whether he would admit it or not.

I started working on dinner while everyone else played some games. Just as I was finishing up, there was a knock on the door and Inuyasha went to answer it.

"Hey, Totosai!" he said as he let him in.

"Happy birthday, Inuyasha," Totosai said. "This must be your baby girl!" he said, looking at Moroha who was in Inuyasha's arms.

"Yup, this is Moroha. This is Totosai, kiddo," he said to her. "He's going to make you a really cool sword one day."

"Speaking of swords, here you go," Totosai said as he handed him the tetsusaiga. "Good as new."

"Alright, thanks!" Inuyasha said with excitement. He pulled the sword out of its sheath and examined it. "Looks perfect."

"I put another layer of protection around it so it shouldn't be susceptible to cracks anymore."

"Awesome!"

Moroha was mesmerized looking at the tetsusaiga. So much so that she reached out and tried to touch it.

"No, no, Moroha. Not yet," Inuyasha said when he noticed her. He put the sword back in its sheath. "I'll teach you how to use it one day, I promise."

Totosai chuckled. "Like father, like daughter."
