January 31
After I fed Moroha and put her in the baby swing yesterday morning, I was bustling around the house doing random cleaning tasks that needed to be done. This was one variation on a typical morning for me.
As I was putting away freshly cleaned clothes in Moroha's room Inuyasha came in. "Looks like you've been busy this morning."
"There's lots to do," I replied. "How did everything go with fixing the village watchtower?"
"It's all good to go. I don't think anyone should be nearly falling out of it again."
Just as I put away the rest of the clothes, he pulled me into his arms for a deliciously passionate kiss. "Yasha…" I whispered before pulling him in for another deep kiss. The next thing I knew, I found myself up against the wall with my hands pinned over my head as he ravaged me with kisses and I moaned heavily.
"I need you, baby," he said against my lips.
I needed him too. I needed him so badly. Unfortunately, Moroha had kept us so busy for the past few days. The last time we'd actually made love was the night of his birthday and since then we'd been up late with her and have been too exhausted even when she was taking naps.
"I know." As I said it, I shivered at the feeling of his soft lips on my skin. We had to make today the day we made love, even if it was a quickie. "We'll do it sometime today."
He placed his forehead on mine and looked into my eyes. "Hope so. Miroku and Sango weren't joking when they said being new parents was tiring." He placed another kiss on my lips but this time we were taken out of the moment when we heard Moroha crying.
We went back into the room and her toys were on the floor and Nico was looking helpless. She calmed down as soon as I picked her up. I guess we had been gone too long and she wanted attention. There was now a happy smile on her face.
"Looks like she needed mommy's love," Inuyasha said as he ran his fingers through her hair. He then turned to me. "We should go on a date, love."
"I don't know, honey. I don't want to leave her…"
"We can take Moroha with us. Let's go to lunch or something. It's been ages since we've been out anyway."
That was true, we hadn't actually gone anywhere in a long time. "Sounds good to me," I replied.
So a little later we went out to a cafe. I had Moroha strapped to me in the baby carrier again and Inuyasha and I walked hand-in-hand through the village until we got there. People we knew in the village were always so happy to see us and Moroha and we talked to a few of them along the way. Soon we arrived at the cafe and had a nice lunch.
"I'm stuffed, that was great," Inuyasha said when we were done.
"It's nice to be eating a normal amount of food these days," I said, remembering how I always wanted to order so much when I was pregnant.
Inuyasha laughed. "Well, you were eating for two back then."
"She turned out healthy so I guess it was worth it," I replied.
I held Inuyasha's hands across the table and was reminded of our first date. That restaurant we had gone to was still a favorite of ours. Things had been so new for us back then; I had only been in this era for a few days at the time. We were still kind of shy and getting used to being with each other and being open with our feelings for each other. That moment was still so special and it was one I would always remember.
"Do you remember our first date?" I asked as I circled my thumbs on his hands.
"How could I forget? You were so lovely that day. I had wanted to take you out for years and I was so amazed that I finally could."
"Yeah, I had dreamed about that for so long."
"I'm just surprised I didn't say anything stupid to make you want to run back to your era forever."
I giggled. "That would never happen. Nothing you could have said would have made me leave. Especially now." I looked down at Moroha who was sucking her thumb and was half asleep. "A million dates later and we have her with us now."
"And I'm grateful for the two of you every day."
As he said it he lifted my hand and kissed it. Of course, it made me blush. I've been with Inuyasha for such a long time now and he still makes me blush constantly.
"You're cute when you blush," Inuyasha said. "You always have been and you always will be."
"So are you." He started blushing as well and it made me giggle a bit. "Ready to go?"
"Sure."
We left the cafe and made our way home. That's when we came across something unexpected. We saw Miroku and he was talking to Reyna!
"Isn't that the girl that's been flirting with him...hey!"
I grabbed Inuyasha's arm and pulled him around the corner.
"What are you doing?" he said.
I peeked over and Miroku and Reyna were still talking. I didn't understand. How could Reyna still be trying to get with Miroku knowing that he's in a relationship? And how could Miroku throw away everything he has for his old lecherous ways?
"I don't believe this. Maybe Sango was right."
"About what?"
"Miroku cheating! I'm sure you've noticed the tension between him and Sango lately."
"Should I have?"
"Geez, you're dense!"
"I remember she was upset last week but I thought it had passed by now."
"I had hoped it would but Sango has been very upset over the whole thing."
"She must know that Miroku is married."
"I talked with Reyna a few days ago," I said, becoming angrier as I thought about it. "She said she doesn't care if he has a family. She'd rather be a homewrecker if it means she can have him."
"That bitch," Inuyasha said. "But look at him, he's not trying to tell her to go away. We should have known he's still a lecher."
"How could he do this to Sango?"
"Any man who would leave his family for some young whore doesn't deserve his family's love." He balled up his fist as he spoke. "I'll teach him a lesson. Sango doesn't need this."
I put out my arm to stop him. "Wait, I want to hear what they're saying."
So we stopped talking so that we could hear but the conversation took a different turn than what we were expecting.
"We've got to stop meeting like this," Reyna said sweetly, batting her eyelashes at him.
"It's hard to meet any other way with Sango and the kids around," he replied.
Inuyasha growled. "That stupid…!"
I put my hand over his mouth. "Shh!"
"You know I really like you, Miroku," Reyna said, putting her hands on his shoulders. "We should take things a step further."
"You know I can't do that."
"What your wife doesn't know won't hurt her. Men do it all the time, it won't matter. We should go off somewhere and spend some quality time together. Tell me you'll come with me, I know I can make you happy."
Miroku removed her hands. "Reyna, you know I think you're a nice girl, but this would never be able to work out between us."
"Don't you ever get tired of the same old thing every night, Miroku? Don't you want something new and exciting? I can give that to you."
Miroku shook his head. "A younger me would have. I was foolish and naive back then but I would happily have gone with you. Now I understand what it's like to have the love and trust of one woman and have her fulfill everything I've been looking for my whole life."
"What are you saying, Miroku?"
"I'm saying I'd never go behind Sango's back for anything. She's my heart and soul and I've loved her for years. She loved me enough to stick by me when I wasn't in my best, and to marry me, and to bear my children. What kind of man would I be if I chose anyone over her?"
Reyna crossed her arms. "I don't believe you."
"There are plenty of other men around here, Reyna. I just happen to be one that you can't have."
"Fine! But don't come crying to me when you change your mind!"
She stormed off and Miroku turned to continue on his way. But not before noticing us standing there.
"What are you two doing?"
"Um, well…" I tried to think of a way to explain it but my mind was drawing a blank.
"My wife is being a meddler again. I was just an innocent bystander," Inuyasha grumbled. I glared at him for throwing me under the bus.
So Miroku turned to me waiting for an answer.
I sighed. "I was just looking out for Sango."
"Why…?" Then he seemed to realize. "You thought I was trying to get with Reyna, right?"
I nodded slowly. "Sango thought the same. She was very upset. I wanted to look out for her. And Inuyasha wanted to teach you a lesson."
"Kagome!" Inuyasha said, this time mad at me for throwing him under the bus. But if I was going to go down, he was going to go down with me.
"So that's why Sango has been so upset with me lately," Miroku said. "I would never cheat on Sango."
"We should have known that," I replied. I felt so bad for doubting him. Miroku and Sango's love is just as strong as me and Inuyasha's. I should never have thought differently of him. "It's just...the way it looked…"
"Yes, I'm sure it must have looked bad. I've run into Reyna a few times since she's moved here but I've been trying to be nice to her and let her down easy. I'm sure my womanizing past didn't make things easier for you to believe otherwise either."
"We're sorry, Miroku," I said sincerely.
Miroku just smiled. "I will say it's nice that you care about Sango so much to look out for her like this. But I can assure you that there is no other woman in my life and there never will be."
All of this was yesterday. Today I spent the day with Sango at my house. It was a rainy day and we spent time together while Inuyasha and Miroku were out.
While we were sitting at the table having tea this afternoon, I told her about yesterday and everything Miroku said. She looked on the verge of tears by the time I was done.
"Wow...he really said that?"
"Every word of it," I said. "He said there's no other woman in his life and there never will be."
"I feel so bad. I never should have doubted him."
"Don't blame yourself. Anyone would have thought the same thing. But based on everything that happened, I don't think you have anything to worry about."
Inuyasha and Miroku arrived shortly afterward. As soon as Sango saw her husband she ran over to him and jumped into his arms. "Miroku!"
"Hey, Sango," he said, chuckling a bit.
She took his face in her hands and kissed him over and over. "I love you."
"I love you too, my dear."
Inuyasha sat next to me. "Did I miss something?"
I just shook my head at him. "It's astounding how you never notice things."
"Well, I'm not sure what happened here but I'm guessing those two are going to have a hell of a night."
I laughed and pushed his arm. "You perv!"
