February 6

"Ah!"

I was woken up in the middle of the night last night by the sound of Inuyasha's voice. My eyes snapped open and I found him sitting next to me, breathing heavily, and looking extremely distressed.

"Yasha? What happened?" I said sleepily.

He put his face in his hands. "I had the most horrible nightmare."

I sat up and hugged him tightly now feeling extremely concerned for him. He was shaking. Whatever happened in this nightmare had really scared him. "Do you want to tell me what happened?"

"I had turned into a full demon and I…I hurt you and Moroha." He paused and took a deep breath. The way he stared off into space was like he was reliving it. "I had no control over myself. You were trying to stop me but I didn't listen. I used these damn claws to cut you and you fell over screaming and covered in blood. Then I went for Moroha." He glanced over at her in her bed fast asleep and looked pained. "All she said to me was 'daddy' begging me to stop but I didn't and I...I killed her too."

I continued to hug him to try to comfort him. "It was just a dream, Yasha. That's not going to happen."

He looked to me with such a distraught expression. "But what if it does? What if I change and I can't control myself? What if I actually hurt you and…?"

I covered his mouth with a kiss to stop him. "I know that would never happen. You love us and I know you would never hurt us. So put that out of your head."

A small smile touched his face and he pulled me into a tight hug. "I love you both more than anything. Just the idea of me somehow losing control around you hurts like someone stabbing me in the heart. I feel like the image of it will be burned into my mind for the rest of my life."

I placed another kiss on his lips. "We love you and we trust you. Let's try to go back to sleep."

We ended up staying up for another hour because Inuyasha couldn't sleep. Eventually, we started to drift off, wrapped in each other's arms. I don't know what brought on this nightmare but I don't want Inuyasha to dwell on it. I have the fullest confidence that he would never ever hurt us.

I watched him carefully this morning to make sure he was okay after such a traumatic experience and at first, he seemed to still be a little bothered but after breakfast, his demeanor seemed to change. He was walking around the house with Moroha rocking her and playing with her. I was relieved to see that he was so happy.

I went over to him and gave him a hug and kiss. "I'm glad you're smiling again."

"You two complete me. How could I not?"

The kiss that he gave me afterward was so sweet and passionate that it was hard to pull away. But I had to because, for one thing, Moroha was watching us, and I also had to go to the shrine.

"I'll be back in a little while."

"Have fun. We'll be here."

I spent most of my morning off at the shrine doing rituals and giving blessings to the people in our village. Sometimes I'm still amazed by how easily I've fallen into my role as a priestess here. I remember how things were kind of tricky at first but now it has all become second nature to me. I feel as though it's my calling to help people in this way.

Once everything wrapped up there, I started to make my way back home. I was definitely surprised by what I saw when I got there.

Inuyasha and Sesshomaru were sitting on the floor playing with Moroha, meanwhile, Nico was sitting next to them buried in Sesshomaru's fluff. Moroha sat on Inuyasha's lap as he held her in his arms while Sesshomaru was playing with her toes.

"Rin taught me this one, watch this," Sesshomaru said. He started to play with each of Moroha's toes. "This little piggy went to the market, this little piggy stayed home, this little piggy ate roast beef, this little piggy ate none, this little piggy cried...wee-wee-wee-wee!" As he said the last part he tickled her and she started giggling making Inuyasha and Sesshomaru laugh even more. "All the way home."

As I stood there watching them, it took all I had to not burst out laughing myself. I had never seen Sesshomaru smile and laugh so much. And the fact that he and Inuyasha were sitting here together playing with Moroha and getting along so well like this was also quite a sight.

"Hey, Kagome," Inuyasha said, still laughing. He gestured for me to come to sit next to him and once I did he put his arm around me and kissed me.

"Are you guys having fun?" I asked, still amused by what I had walked in on.

"She's quite a playful little girl," Sesshomaru said. To my surprise, he was still smiling. "Also very ticklish." She giggled as he tickled her foot again.

"She takes after her daddy," I replied. As I watched him play with her I thought it was so cute. Obviously, Moroha can soften even the hardest of hearts. "You're so good with her, Sesshomaru."

"Who would have thought Uncle Fluffy would be so good with babies?" Inuyasha said with a smirk.

Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes at him. "I'll be so good with her that by the time she learns how to talk I'll have convinced her that 'Uncle Fluffy' is stupid despite her father's insistence."

That made me giggle a bit. "You should have a baby too, Sesshomaru."

Sesshomaru just scoffed. "No woman has ever been worth my time for that."

"Slow down there, Kagome," Inuyasha said sarcastically. "Sesshomaru may be good with babies but he doesn't have nearly enough love in his heart to ever fall in love with a woman and have a child of his own."

"Everyone needs a little bit of love in their life, Inuyasha," I replied. "Even Sesshomaru."

"As if I really have the patience for human emotions like love," Sesshomaru said stubbornly. "I have better things to do."

"Kagome, weren't you saying a while ago that Sesshomaru could fall in love with a human woman?" Inuyasha said, his amusement at the situation growing.

"It's possible," I said with a shrug.

Sesshomaru, however, was not nearly as entertained by this. "Keep dreaming. You are a tolerable human, Kagome, but the rest of your kind are insufferable."

"Gee, thanks," I said, rolling my eyes.

"Well, I have to be off. I have important business to attend to," Sesshomaru said. As he started to leave, Moroha whined with disappointment. Sesshomaru smiled at her and patted her head. "I'll be back very soon, little one." He then turned to Inuyasha and said very seriously, "Take care of them." After that, he left our house.

"I don't get Sesshomaru," I said. "He pretends to be so tough and hard but we all know how nice he really is."

"That's just how he is, baby," Inuyasha replied. "He's way too proud to ever admit that he actually has real feelings. I will say he's come a long way from the way he used to be."

"That's true." I thought of the first time I had met Sesshomaru. He was cold and cruel and had no problem with trying to kill both me and Inuyasha. The way he is today, even if he tries to hide it, is like night and day.

All of a sudden Moroha started to cry.

"I think she's hungry," Inuyasha said. "It's been a while since you've fed her."

We went over to sit on the couch and Moroha immediately started to suck from my breast.

There was another thing I had noticed today that I had a question about. "What did Sesshomaru mean when he said 'take care of them'? What did you guys talk about?"

"I told him about the dream I had."

"What did he think about it?"

"He said I must have gotten really shaken up by that demon fight last week and now I'm imagining even worse case scenarios." He sighed. "And that's probably true. I could protect you from another demon but if that demon is myself I wouldn't know what to do."

I held his hand to comfort him. "Maybe. But I still know you would never hurt us."

"How can you be so sure?"

"Because you said you'd protect us with your life, right? You've never gone back on that before and I wouldn't expect you to now."

"That's true." He then lifted my chin and kissed me. The smile that formed on his face after that warmed my heart. "You truly are an amazing wife, you know that?"

"I would hope to be nothing less for such an amazing husband."
