Chapter 225
.
Lucifer, Chloe, Amanadiel, Maze, and Eve made it to Hell. According to Ares' intel, this was likely the mini-kingdom where Cain was. Cain had murdered his own brother, and been forced to walk the earth for millenia as punishment. He'd had many occupations, one of his most frequent was as a police detective. Apparently when you've been around for thousands of years, you get very good at solving crimes. But perhaps that just required dedication and perseverence. There was the hope that he was still trying to do good here, but that soon became unlikely. This particular mini-kingdom was ruled by a man named Ellis O'Brien. In life Ellis had been CEO of a company involved in the prison industrial complex. He profited from mass incarceration, in teenagers and children going to prison for minor offenses. He even destroyed community centers and schools designed to keep at risk children from falling through the cracks, promised dangerous criminals freedom in exchange for destroying these beacons of hope. Although Ellis went to prison for his crimes, here in Hell he seemed to be up to his old tricks. He destoryed any chance of hope for the damned, and Evil rewarded his efforts. The police force here, such as it was, were corrupt, and more interested in raking in personal benefits than actually helping anyone. They forced people to steal to survive then made them into slave labor when they did. If Cain was part of the police force, he probably wasn't doing it for altruistic reasons. The group wandered around, tried to barter information. It wasn't long before they attracted the attention of these cops, one in particular. It was indeed Cain, who asked to see them in private.
.
Cain: Hello mother.
Eve: Cain, youre looking well.
Lucifer: Yeah, you seem to have lost weight.
Cain: It's hot here, you sweat a lot. What brings you here?
Eve: For you. We came to rescue you.
Cain: Really, because you disowned me once.
Eve: You had just murdered my son.
Cain: You always took his side. I admit, some of our rivalry was my fault, but you could never admit that some of it was Abel's. Maybe our fight to the death was inevitable, but if he had won would you have disowned him so easily?
Eve: Probably, you're my son too.
Cain: For the record, Abel and I have reconciled. He's a woman now.
Eve: Really, is that punishment for something?
Cain: I think it has more to do with Lucifer bringing his soul back and accidentally putting him in a woman's body. Anyway he adapted, likes being able to look at that body whenever he wants. Plus he gets to sleep with women who are a six on the Kinsey Scale.
Eve: I'm glad that you two finally made up. I'd like to bring you both back home.
Cain: There's still work to do here. I am part of Ellis O'Brien's police force, but I'm helping people avoid becoming slave labor. Abel's actually a big help on that. It's not much, but we're doing what we can to help people.
Eve: In that case, I'm staying. I won;t leave my children, not again. And maybe I have a few sins to make up for as well.
Maze: If Eve's staying I'm staying.
Lucifer: You want to help people?
Maze: More like I'd like to stay with Eve.
Cain: You two are together?
Eve: Not exactly, but maybe we can have some fun.
Maze: I'd like that.
Cain: Actually Maze could probably join this police force, Ellis would definitely want someone with your skills. I take it you have no problem playing both sides.
Maze: None.
Lucifer: Guess everyone's where they want to be. Now, I know there are probably a lot of people here claiming to be God, but do you have any idea where my actual father is?
