Chapter 227
.
Lucifer and his friends returned from Hell, along with some of Lucifer's family. Ares looked at this strategically. Eve and Maze stayed in Hell, leaving the heroes with two less fighters. On the other hand, they brought back Uriel, God, and Goddess. God and goddess did not have the power that they once did, but Uriel was pretty strong in a fight. If he could get over his anger towards his brother, that would be an asset to Good. Ares went to see his father, Zeus. Ares had set Zeus up in a fairly comfortable estate, with many beautiful servant girls. Hopefully Zeus could give some good advice for this situation.
.
Ares: Evil rewards me as long as I can keep people fighting and hating.
Zeus: So what's the problem, how hard could it be to find people to hate and fight in Hell?
Ares: Harder than you might think. You would think that people like John Brown and Lenin would keep fighting their wars. But now they're starting to embrace non-violence.
Zeus: And how long will that last when Galt and the romans attack them?
Ares: I don't know, that's the problem. D'Hoffryn is trying to get Stalin and Vlad the impaler, recruit more followers to defect from Lenin's army to theirs.
Zeus: Makes sense. It does seem like Evil will still have plenty of souls trapped here in Hell.
Ares: And yet it is insatiable, gets very upset when it loses even one soul.
Zeus: Given enough time, it will eventually lose us all. It's only clinging to power as long as it can. Believe me, it didn't work for me either.
Ares: What do you suggest we do?
Zeus: I think it's too late for you and me to fight for Good. I can only hope that Good wins the final battle, and we are reborn into this new world.
Ares: A world without sin, without hate, without war. For me that is a nightmare.
Zeus: But you'd get a clean slate, wouldn't remember having been god of war.
Ares: Maybe I'd rather see that last great epic battle. Even if I die in it and Evil loses, wouldn't I still get to be reborn?
Zeus: Yes, but my understanding is you'd be at the bottom of the list. The souls in Hell who refused to fight for Evil, they would be at the front of the line for rebirth. Those who fought for Evil would be at the back of the line. Evil will ofcourse return over time, the utopia would become more corrupt. Souls reborn after this time would have a harder time getting into Heaven.
Ares: That doesn't sound so bad to me.
Zeus: It does to me. And besides, I don't really want to see all these souls suffer for eternity. Now my plan, is to savor drink and women, and wait for the end.
Ares: Don't count on Good winning. If that happens, and you refuse to help, things can be much worse for you down here. I can take all of this away from you unless you choose to help us plan for the final battle.
Zeus: That is true, and it would be very unpleasant to become a begger like God. Ofcourse, Hercules is fighting for Good, and he has a habit of stopping your schemes. When they win, I will be reborn, until then I'll make the most of my life here. I advise you to enjoy drink and women while you can, chances are it won't last much longer.
