Chapter 227
Valkyrie got a phone call right as Nadia got into the shower before bed that the mortals at the Sanctuary were waking up. She had pulled back on her work clothes, knocked on the door to the bathroom and tried to open it, but Nadia didn't hear her and it was locked. She worried her lip between her teeth before leaving, meeting Ghastly and Dexter at the door to go back to the Sanctuary. In the car she sent a text explaining what happened to Nadia.
She didn't receive one back before they got to the Sanctuary and she had to put her phone on silent then.
Elsie was in the front hall looking nervous when they got there. She went straight to Ghastly's side and held his hand tightly as they made their way through the halls down to the mortals in the special hospital room warded off for just Kenspeckle, his assistant's and the mortals. He buzzed them into the room.
"I don't know how this is happening," were the first words out of his mouth. Valkyrie waved at Civet and Stentor who were calming someone down. "They shouldn't be waking up."
"Maybe it's something to do with their magic?" Valkyrie said.
"Obviously it has something to do with their magic," he snapped back and Valkyrie closed her mouth, realising how stupid her suggestion had been. "You, other girl. Your magic is the same as those teenage hooligans out there, correct? It was also given to you by Argeddion?"
"Yes sir," Elsie said nervously.
"How did it work? Did it increase over time or come it one full wave you learnt gradually?" He demanded.
"I think it increased over time," Elsie replied, glancing at Ghastly. "Maybe there were some things we didn't realise until later but I think we–"
"Yes, yes, I understand," he waved her away and stormed off to do some work.
"Well then," Valkyrie muttered.
"He seems more stressed than normal," Dexter said.
"Hmm," Valkyrie hummed in a displeased way. "Let's talk to the guy that's awake." They went up to the man that was awake with Stentor and Civet and Valkyrie introduced herself. "So, is there any difference in how you feel with the powers you have?"
"Not really," he said with uncertainty. "I don't want them now and I didn't then. I'm terrified of all this. I want to go home."
"I understand, we're doing our best to remove them so you can go back to your life, I promise," she said softly. "Did you have any dreams while you were unconscious, perhaps?"
"No, not that I remember. I just remember turning into some beast and then I was gone. And now I'm here," he said.
"I understand this is all very confusing, but you're in good hands. In no time you'll be free of magic," she smiled.
"Do you have magic?" He asked suddenly.
She took a moment to answer. "Yes, I do."
"Why? Why do you put yourself through that willingly?"
"We have different magic," she explained. "Yours turns you into a Werewolf. Mine is something I can control that doesn't take over my mind. If I had to turn into a Werewolf, I don't expect I'd much like it either."
He considered that and then nodded once and Valkyrie left him to the doctors to deal with.
Kenspeckle came back into the room then as another person began waking up. "I know why they're waking," Kenspeckle said loudly. "Back on your beds everyone."
Valkyrie, Ghastly, Dexter and Elsie stood back against the wall as Kenspeckle adjusted some dials on the machine of the almost-fully-awake person and they soothed back into sleep in moments. He went around and soon all of them were asleep and only then did he address them.
"I know what happened," he said again. "Their magic is increasing rapidly. So fast I didn't even consider it could be the cause initially because it would take an insane magic increase from the last time I checked them to their current amount. It's unheard of."
"Oh no," Valkyrie said, eyes widening. "That's really not good."
"I am aware. I didn't approve of your use of force earlier today, Valkyrie, but now I see it was necessary. If these people are increasingly growing their magic unconscious, I dread to think what those teenagers have now."
"I did what I had to," she said resolutely.
"I'm aware. At least there's only one of them out there now."

Seán's POV
The cell was small, with just a single bed with a mattress, and it wasn't very warm. Not cold enough he wanted a blanket or jacket, but it was still a bit uncomfortable. The weirdest part for Seán was how he didn't need to use the bathroom. It had been at least a day and he didn't need to go. And the doctors had fixed him from being electrocuted or whatever the dark haired girl had done to him.
He sighed for the millionth time and looked up at the ceiling. He almost wished the walls weren't so weirdly padded so he could hit his head against them and have it hurt. Instead it just felt like a soft tap.
He sat up quickly when the little bar was pulled open on the door. "Mr Mackin?" A voice said.
"Eh, yeah?" He asked, sitting on the edge quickly. "What d'you want?"
"I have a request for you. Come to the door."
Slowly, he stood and walked the few steps to the door. "What is it?"
"I have a deal for you. I need something done and in return, I'll let you out of this cell and I won't tell anyone you're missing. They won't notice until morning at the earliest. How does that sound?"
"Well, it depends what it is," he said with pretend caution. Inside, though, he knew this was his chance. Probably his only chance.
"I want you to kill the Dead Men and those women that live with them," said the voice. "I don't care how or what it takes, I just want them all dead. Do you know who they are?"
"Yeah, that girl that took me out with her lightning magic, and there's a skeleton and some blokes," he said.
"Yes, there are two women and six men. A few more live with them you may have to also kill, but they aren't trained other than the Necromancer."
"Oh, is Necromancy death magic? Can they kill me straight?" He asked.
"What? No, that's not how it works."
"Oh."
"Just agree to kill them and I'll let you go. How does that sound?"
"Sure! I'm down," he said, grinning.
"Good."
The little flap was closed and the door was unlocked. Seán instantly stepped out and saw the man in the business suit.
"Good to do business with you," the man said, offering his hand.
Seán took it. "Yeah."
He stepped back for the man to close the door and when the man has his back turned, he punched him with all the force he had and the man crumpled, his body utterly broken.
Seán closed his old cell door and locked it, found a cell at the back that was unoccupied and stuff the body in before beginning his journey out.
A filler after a long time, I know, but bear with me! I'm writing big stuff so it takes time ;)
ps just because I slack doesn't mean you're allowed to not review, I will write a revenge fic if you don't, you've seen the bullshit I've done!
