Lin Ye's day has just gotten a whole lot worse.

Lin Ye questioned if he was in a waking nightmare.

Lin Ye initially thought she was teasing him again, However, given how sincere her expression was when she spoke, His initial assumption was shot with doubt. His mind was filled with many questions, Lin Ye fought his way through the smoothie of emotions to try to make sense of them.

He was confused.

Still, even with his inner turmoil, Lin Ye cannot make a fool of himself in front of the God of Karlan… Even when she was the source of his headache. He mustered a reply-

"That sword contains my power" Messiah began to explain, ignoring the mental conflict Lin Ye seems to be in. She takes the sword from Lin Ye's hand, holds it in hers, and gestures with it, "Not many are worthy of wielding the power of God, but if it's you, it shouldn't be a big problem."

Her words left Lin Ye stunned, was she really giving him a God weapon? Messiah, the omnipotent being who can stop natural disasters with just a thought, was trusting him with her powers?

After being transported in this world, Lin Ye thought everything had it out for him. He always cursed his luck and the Gods, thinking them to be good for nothing puppeteers who manipulated world events and people's lives for entertainment.

He saw no point in prayers.

He had no powers other than dream-walking and the strength he gained while training.

As a result, he was extremely vulnerable in every battle. He nearly died several times and had to rely on others to save him. He was a weakling even as a side character.

But with this gift from God, He could finally be strong enough to fight, to protect and save others. His distrust of deities holds firm but, He knows that if every God wants him dead, at least Messiah would have his back.

Looking at Maple in Messiah's hand, Lin Ye feels that a new life was beckoning him. As long as he had this sword, he would become a true protagonist in his story...

"However, the energy stored inside it is limited, and once used, the energy in the knife will be depleted"

Just as Lin Ye took Maple happily, and imagined that his future destiny would change, Messiah's words were like a pot of ice water poured solidly on his forehead.

"You mean to say that... Maple can only be used once?" Lin's Ye frowned.

"I didn't say that."

"But-"

"The energy can be exhausted. However, it can also be refilled back"

"Really? How does it refill? Do I have to come back to you?"

"That's not necessary." Messiah shakes her head and says, "You just need to stand in the sun."

"Standing under the sun?" Lin Ye's expression is confused.

"Yes. Maple can replenish its energy through the sun." Messiah says with a smile, "How about it. Isn't it amazing?"

Lin Ye had no idea. What is he supposed to say? This appears to be an unscientific blade. Does it really need to charge with solar energy? Lin Ye suddenly feels as if he has nothing to look forward to in the future after learning this…

Looks like my promotion to the main protagonist was just false hope.

Lin Ye sighs in defeat.

He notices Pramanix, who hadn't spoken for a long time, was squatting in the corner.

"Pramanix? Do you have a stomachache?" Lin Ye asks her worryingly. Pramanix looks back at Lin Ye, with fearsome eyes.

It doesn't look like she wants to talk to him.

Lin Ye might not have realised what Maple represented, but as Karan's saintess, she couldn't have been ignorant. That is a weapon capable of miraculously storing divine power, a holy artefact. Her holy bell, on the other hand, is the saintess of Karlan's inheritance through the ages, and it can only be inherited by the pure person who is approved by the god. And this is also what the Kjerag people have received for thousands of years of god worship.

"This reward is the symbol of Karlan's supremacy." To put it in a popular way, the Kjerag people only received a bell from Messiah after thousands of years of worshipping her. And Lin Ye came and got a blessing in less than a week. A brand new holy artefact, and it's a weapon! This made Pramanix dizzy just thinking about it. Why? She is the saintess of Karlan, she has passed the test that countless others couldn't. She is the one who was known to be the closest to the god for the longest time...

But why is she given an old bell with no fighting ability, whereas Lin Ye is given a sword after only two days of knowing the god? It's a brand-new holy relic that also serves as a weapon.

Kjerag is unsure what will happen if this incident reaches her. She is unsure whether the Kjerag people will believe they were chosen by a god because a foreigner is more beloved by their God.

Regardless, despite the slight resentment in her heart, Pramanix attempts to calm her mind. She is also determined to keep this matter to herself, and she must not inform the Kjerag people. The saintess will do anything that will make God displeased.

After all, God aids Kjerag in preventing natural disasters from occurring around Karlan, and this holy bell represents her kindness to them. This is a holy artefact worth more than any weapon. Which is more important? It's clear to her now.

Thinking about it this way, she felt a lot more relieved in her heart; she didn't feel the same sadness she did before.

Outside the house, Matterhorn's voice can be heard.

"Young Miss, Sussurro, Mistress! You are finally come back, hurry up and get ready. Dinner is about to start."

"Wow, Matterhorn, we are having a barbecue tonight?" Cliffheart's voice can be heard outside the house.

"Of course, didn't you see me getting ready to cook? You can call the Mistress out."

Cliffheart and Sussurro spent their time near the wooden house during the two days when Lin Ye entered the temple because they couldn't enter the holy temple. And now that they've returned, it's getting dark.

Pramanix looks at Messiah and nods. She had also decided to attend tonight's barbecue camp. Lin Ye abruptly stopped Messiah with his hand on hers as she was about to leave the room.

Messiah smiles as she turns her head to face him. This made him wonder how he should address her. He scoffs and then turns to face Pramanix. "Can you take Lappland out first, Pramanix? I have something to say to Messiah... No, I want to say something to God."

The Saintess expression immediately became vigilant.

"I just want to ask a few questions."

Of course, Pramanix will not allow Lin Ye and Messiah to be alone together. She has already noticed that Messiah's treatment of Lin Ye differs from how she treats others after only two days of contact. The attitude is a little unusual. Who knows what will happen if the two remain alone in the room?

Will Lin Ye be able to persuade Messiah to leave Kjerag? Anya Silverash will become the last generation of saintesses. She will become a sinner! As a result, Pramanix refuses to give them their alone time. But what can she do if God herself tells her to leave?

When confronted with God's instructions. She can follow her instructions even if she doesn't want to. Pramanix approached Lappland with a decadent expression on her face, and the two exited the room together.

Before leaving, she gave Lin Ye a warning look. It's a pity that Lin Ye didn't understand and thought that Pramanix was asking him to hurry up.

The barbecue will be tasty if it is cold. I understand.

The door is closed, and only Lin Ye and Messiah are left in the room.

It is the same as in the main hall, but this time Lin Ye is asking the question he wanted to ask for so long.

"Umm," He scratches his head, "Did you know me before?"

Messiah smiles "Why do you ask?"

"It always feels... the way you treat me well. No, it's not a feeling anymore." Lin Ye is not a fool. This kind of thing can still be seen now.

So he hesitated and says, "So I want to ask the reason why is that. After all, I know that I am not a special person. And you are the god of Karlan. So-."

"A long time ago." Messiah interrupted Lin Ye's words suddenly. Her smile is slight reduced its brightness, "When I was mortal, when it the most difficult time of my life, I was hungry and cold. When I was at the last dregs of living. Someone showed me the love and care that I yearned for all my life."

"What happened? Did they manage to save you?"

Messiah says lightly, "No, no, he was just a step late and couldn't help me."

"What do you mean?"

"It's not that he was late; it's more accurate to say that I didn't make it to the end. When I perished, he looked so distraught. He wept. His tears hurt more than the cold around me. So, I've always wondered if I could've just clenched my teeth a little tighter and held on a little longer, could I be saved by that person? Then follow him out of that freezing place? What would've it have been like? To live in a warm home with them?

Lin Ye is perplexed; what does she mean by "a step too late?" Before becoming a God, Messiah did not have a happy life? And, most importantly, what does all of this have to do with him? Lin Ye remains silent in order to allow her to continue.

Then he is rewarded for his patience. An answer.

"That person gave me this scarf, y'know? You have a lot in common with him" Messiah says, smiling brightly once more. Lin Ye had the impression that she was always smiling with him, "So, I'm just making up for my regret."

"I pondered upon it for many years, what it would've been like, I longed for love and he had so much to give. Sleepless nights I spent spinning wild fantasies, I wanted to see them one more time, to tell them- that even though I had perished from my mortal coil;"

She smiles at him.

"I have been saved."

"Messiah, you-"

"Welp, enough with the tragedy, let's eat!"

"Huh? Wait!"

"Later~" Messiah smiled, "The barbecue is done. Don't want it to be cold"

She goes to the door leaving him behind. But before she opens it, she turns to look at him "Ah, Dr. Lin Ye."

"Huh?"

"Come on." Messiah opens the door, and the sunset glow welcomes her.

She is bathed in the afterglow of it, which seemed a bit unreal looking. Her beautiful brown hair seems to shine under it, her grey scarf flutters with the breeze.

In the sunset, she says softly.

"Lin Ye, the Maple has sprouted. You have to leave"

"And as for my previous regrets, they vanished as soon as I met you"

At this moment nothing in this world is more beautiful than the smile she is giving him right now.
