Chapter 266
.
Over the next month the plague got worse, more and more people died. Despite the best precautions, people still died. No country was immune, but some people were. Noone was sure why some people were seemingly immune. It was not hard for people to turn on each other, blame each other for the death of their loved ones. It was not hard to understand why doctors seemed more likely to catch this plague, they were after all treating the sick. The doctors who quit and fled seemed to survive. Grocery store workers also seemed more likely to die of this plague, they were among the few who still had to go to work, everyone needed food after all. Almost no members of the SBA were infected, some claimed that God was sparing the "rightous" and that they would survive the plague. This ofcourse only increased the fighting between them and groups like Antifa. And as more doctors and grocery store employees died, as well as cops and firefighters, society was in very real danger of falling apart. The Ambassador was reading many medical reports on the deseased, nothing could be found connecting them medically. Most did not have many medical problems. They didn't drink exxessively, didn't smoke, few did drugs. All things that, one would think, would make them less likely to die of a plague, not more likely. One day, after the plague had been occuring for about a month, Jack Bauer approached the Ambassador with a theory.
.
Jack: This is just a theory mr ambassador, I could be wrong.
Ambassador: At this point I'm comfortable with a certain amount of speculation, please go on.
Jack: I can't believe it's a coincidence that so many healthcare and food service employees get sick, while the SBA and similar groups, seem immune.
Ambassador: Healthcare and food service workers are in contact with the most people, and I strongly suspect the SBA released this plague and vaccinated their members.
Jack: Hell is preparing for the final battle, but does it make sense that they would kill primarily those who aren't good fighters, while leaving our strongest heroes immune?
Ambassador: Maybe they wanted us to have to take care of these people, leaving us more drained before the battle.
Jack: It might make sense to force us to take people off the front lines to care for the sick, but this plague has a 100% fatality rate and kills within 48 hours of infection.
Ambassador: So maybe it isn't working out as well as Evil had hoped.
Jack: I'm not sure Evil developed this plague.
Ambassador: I'm a little confused.
Jack: In my world, I was up against this "preacher" reverand Adam. He believed we were living in the end times.
Ambassador: I guess he was at least partially right.
Jack: He felt that God was demanding his help in ending the human race. Adam was a religious fanatic, and he worked with fanatical environmentalists for one common goal, the end of the human race. They were able to steal a deadly virus, the envirnmentalists wanted to kill all of humanity and leave the world intact for other animals.
Ambassador: And you think that they're up to their old tricks?
Jack: Yes sir, because Adam's views were unusual for a religious fanatic.
Ambassador: He sounds a bit like David Koresh.
Jack: Koresh forced underage girls into marriage, from what we could tell Adam was a sexual prude. And while most fanatics dehumanize their enemies, think they're the only rightous ones, Adam's group was different. They deliberately targeted children for death. They believed they were saving these children's souls, sparing them from being corrupted by an evil world. They actually took joy in killing good people. I believe that somehow they've developed a plague that kills good people, spares them from becoming more corrupt in these final days. Ofcourse this is just speculation right now.
Ambassador: It's as good a theory as any. And you are right, it would be a thorn in Evil's side of more people die like this, get to Heaven, fewer people for Evil to torture for all eternity. Doesn't say much for us that we're immune does it.
Jack: I guess not.
