Chapter 272

The dissapearences started small. When oe person dissapeared, and others couldn't find them, they had little reason to suspect they wouldn't come back. But then people couldn't find them later, and it soon became apparent that it was not an isolated incident. Then, people would be having a conversation, and it would seem that the other person simply wasn't there anymore. Here one moment, gone the next. It seemed that father Lucci's prophecy was coming true. Those who weren't yet worthy of Heaven were being recalled to Hell. Some seemed to deserve eternal damnation. Nazies, serial killers, people who used the IRS scam to deprive senior citizens of their social security checks. But many were much less evil. Lucci admitted that people's actions in their past lives could count for or against them now, noone could really be sure if they had done too much bad in one life that would proclude them from Heaven now. The Ambassador's granddaughter, Amy, she knew she had done too many bad things once, a part of her expected to be taken back to Hell at any moment. But she had tried to do better here in Antarctica. Now, she remembered the first two souls they'd rescued from Hell. Sharon, who had picked up a gun in one moment of blind rage, and Emily, who committed suicide when she was pregnant. They hadn't committed murder, never planted bombs under police cars. Emily and Sharon deserved their second chance far more than Amy. Amy went to their quarters, hoping to find those two. But there were gone. A part of Amy hoped that she was wrong, that she would find Sharon and her wife Emily together, maybe they were just having a romantic dinner together in private. But on some lever Amy knew, her friends were gone. She would look for them, but knew it was futile. Sharon and Emily were trapped in Hell. Relatively minor sinners like them would be tortured, the truley evil would rule in luxury. And if Good failed to defeat Evil in the final battle, they and countless souls like them would suffer for all eternity.
