Summary: Sonic gets excited to do something nice for Amy!
Response: "N-no! You gotta trust me on this one, Ames! Come on…"
"Haha! Sonic? Where… where are you taking me..?"
"It's a surprise! Geez, Amy! There are very specific qualifications on 'surprises' and one of them is- you're not suppose to know anything!" Sonic lead Amy through the forest floors as the sun began to set very low upon the horizon…
"But, shouldn't I at least know where to place my footing?" she giggled.
He threw his arms up in the air. "Well, honestly, if you're going to make it THIS difficult." he suddenly scooped her up, as she let out a surprised, 'Ooh!' and laughed as his impatient spirit raced him towards their destination.
"Honestly, you don't ever let me lead, do you?" He looked down at her quickly, as she continued to laugh, just enjoying being in his company. This was the most he's spent time with her in ages…
"You quite literally ruined the build up."
"Didn't you're impatient feet do that for me?"
"Oh, right, cause everything's my fault." He rolled his eyes, and began to slow down.
He hopped over a log and kicked off a tree to land where he needed to on one knee, helping her stand from being carried, and got up again, moving towards some flimsy tree branches that obscured his 'great surprise'!
"So… what am I looking at here?" she looked around, kinda teasing him too, before Sonic smirked a grin, looking back behind him, and putting a hand on the part of the trees branches that interlocked with one another.
"Amy… welcome to-"
He parted the trees.
"Your new Haven."
Amy's eyes widened at the now moonlighted, half parted, bamboo oasis. There was a roof above her, but the outside was just the grassy plain, leading to a small pond or lake just across the way.
The lake dipped down into an even more fuller and beautiful view across the raised plateau she looked out from.
she covered her mouth, the intial shock of it all bringing her close to tears. She even had a cute little purple beanie-sack to sit on and everything!
"Sonic…"
"I know the uhh.. welllll, the last battle with Eggman went a little…heh, south." Sonic scratched his head, worried his little handy-work didn't cut the height of the expectation she may have wanted for a new getaway, but it was the best he could do…
"I uh, planted this!" he quickly raced over to a set of dirt with small buds springing up. "I'm afraid you'll have to wait for that surprise come next spring, but until then, you can guess what types they are!"
"Roses?" she grinned, putting the side of her hand up to her mouth, giggling in the sweetness of his gesture.
He looked at her and shook his head, hanging it low for a moment before raising it up again. "You should know I know you better than that. It's more than Roses, but way to be a party pooper. I bet you can't guess which one!" he pointed playfully at her, teasing her.
"Sonic… this is… more than I could of asked for!" She spun a moment, looking around at it all again.
"Well, since the last attack from the Bushy-stashed Doc, I figured you'd be missing you're 'safe haven' as you called it. You were pretty upset on the phone with Tails." he put his hands behind his head, before lowering them to his sides… along with his gaze.
"He told me later that you would paint there, read, meditate, probably plan some make-believe date that never happens with me."
She glared an unamused look.
"I'm ruining it, aren't I?"
"Very much so." she sarcastically smiled.
"Still! Good enough, right? Next! I'll make a trail for you! Since you- were too impatient to memorize the way here!" he had spun back to accuse her, with a charming pivot might I add.
"Ah! Wait, WHO was it who was growing impatient?" she put her hands to her hips, before swinging them back, taunting him and also, probably unnoticeably, showing body language that Sonic was subconciously picking up on.
the two started to walk towards each other.
"Alright, alright. You win. My feet were a TAD anxious…"
They suddenly stood right in front of the other, and with the sunlight gone, the moon only starting to rise more rapidly now-
the two just stared…
"Ehem, well, if you're all settled in, I guess I should take you home now." Sonic backed down!
Moving away, he awkwardly repaced himself and started to move back to the tree branches.
"Uhh…Sonic! W-wait!" Amy looked away, holding a hand up to her chest, beating loudly with her heart, as she raced up and took hold of his arm.
He wobbled back, "U-uhh.." he looked at it, before looking, kinda dumbly, back at her face..
Her emerald eyes, with only a slight bit of light from the moon, still lit up beautifully with his piercing green.
"I… thank you." she smiled, closing her eyes. "This was, the single most,- kindest thing you could of done for me."
He just stared at her, blinking his eyes, but the dumb look on his face was gone…
Replaced with something… gentler… more innocent almost.
He turned his head forward, away from hers, and nodded.
"Hehe! Ohh, if you must! take me home, then!" she moved passed him, her signature comical, wobbly strut as she did so. She waited for Sonic, folding her arms as she did so. "You coming? These well-paced heels won't match your anxious sneakers." she teased, glancing at his feet, and twisting her own foot to be sassy about it.
Sonic was still a little taken aback by the moment beforehand, and it alarmed him slightly how fast she could recover from it.
But honestly? She had to learn to recover, after all those many times he never picked up on it…
He nodded again, and regained his cool, and smiled.
"Alright, twinkle-toes. Let a real pro show ya how's it done!" he flicked his nose and scooped her up again.
She noticed something different about this run… his hold… was more an embrace, then just a hold to get her somewhere…
Was this his attempt of trying to salvage his poorly lost opportunity? Trying to be subtle about how he had felt?
Amy just stared at him, her eyes sparkling with hope that it wasn't all in her head, which, it usually was sometimes.
Or… for this moment…
Was it?
