Chapter 389

Rowan and Steve were supposed to be having a lie in. Nahele had gone off to school, and they were supposed to have a day off to spend together.

They had started that day off with sex in the shower, which turned into sex in their bed. They were resting between their round two before moving onto round three when his phone rang.

Steve groaned and grumbled but still picked up the phone. Rowan tried not to be disappointed but she knew what this meant.

It was a case and if Steve caught himself a case that meant their day off was null and void.

He picked up that call and she got up out of that bed and started to get ready for the day. By the time he was off the phone, Rowan was changed and ready to go. There was no apology, there was no explanation, Steve was merely in a blind panic to get himself ready, which meant that this was one hell of a douzy.

Or at the very least they really needed him.

"Babe… since… you know, you're up and I gotta go, can you please make me coffee?"

"Course babe," she heading down the stairs.

She was only in the kitchen for two minutes before there was a tug on her strings. A vibration of need that twanged through her senses. She could tell by the pitch of this particular pull that it wasn't Steve, but her brother.

Abandoning the coffee she was making, she went to the door and popped a portal to Japan and to her brother.

When she opened up the door, she found that she hadn't opened it up to a disaster or emergency. He was just standing at it his kitchen counter, chewing on a cuticle and staring at his phone. He didn't look like he was in danger or in trouble, so why were his strings vibrating like that?

"Are you okay?" she asked him and his eyes whipped up to her.

The sun was just rising the man was in his pjs which were just a pair of sweatpants. But when his eyes met hers she saw worry lined there and her own worry kicked up.

He glanced to his phone and then back to her. "I didn't even send the text…"

"You needed me, I could feel it."

Wo was already moving towards her, "You could feel it?" he echoed. "Do you even have your phone on you?" She shook her head and he frowned. "So you didn't know I called?"

"No, are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine, I just… I wanted to talk to you about something and… can you let me get a shirt? I wasn't expecting to see you right now."

"Sure," she said but instead of closing the portal on her side, she walked through and shut it behind her.

Wo shot her half a smirk. "Steve's gonna freak."

"It'll only be for a few minutes," she said softly. "Hurry up."

She let Wo dart into his bedroom that he shared with Jian and then waited as he changed. With in minutes he was dressed in plain black jeans and a blue polo with a black collar. He must have dressed quickly because his shirt was all off kilter. She immediately made moves to straighten it up for him.

"Thanks…"

"So is this a talk here sort of talk? Cause if so I'mma have to pop back into Hawaii… Steve has a case and I should be there to say goodbye."

Wo glanced to the room he just left where Jian was no doubt sleeping. "It's a Hawaii talk," he whispered.

"Right, you wanna come with me?" He nodded and she opened up a portal in the bedroom doorway that took them back to Hawaii.

As soon as they were there and the portal was closed she went back to getting the coffee ready for her husband.

"So what's going on," she asked him.

"I uh… I've done something… and I wanted to talk to you first," he said. "I know I have to tell Con and I will, but I need to tell you first."

Rowan's eyes narrowed. "Okay? Are you okay?"

"Yes, there are just going to be… changes."

"Changes?" she asked, starting to get nervous. What did that mean? Jian wasn't kicking her out of his life again, was she?

"I uhm… I'm going straight." Rowan whirled around to face him, now that, that she had not been expecting. "Uh… in a week's time I'll be turning myself in to the CIA and they'll be putting me to work instead of arresting me. The deal is I help out their task forces, help them shut down some more dangerous routes, turn state on a few of the people I work with and then I'll be uh… I'll be free to go."

Rowan just stared at him, not sure what he wanted her to say. She completely forgot to make Steve's coffee, he could pour his own.

"The CIA agreed to that?" she asked.

Wo Fat inclined his head. "Well… they heard about how well I was working with Five-0 so they're willing to take a chance on this partnership," he admitted and then he lowered his eyes and cleared his throat. "So understandably… I'm uh… I'm going to have to shut down your app, seeing as most of the people on there are uh… they're not going to be available once I help the CIA shut them down."

"But… Armando… and Kong…"

"Okay, not them. Armando is already selling coke for the CIA so he's good. And they're talking to Liang about potentially being in charge of their cyber crime division. It's just uh… everyone else."

Rowan nodded. "Well that's okay," she said. "Maybe we can just make the app a Five-0 thing, so I know if my friends and family are in danger?"

"I can definitely look into that."

Rowan nodded, took in her brother's stiff shoulders and the way his hands kept attempting to press out wrinkles in his jeans despite the fact that there were none.

He was nervous and he didn't have sleeves so he couldn't play with his cuffs. And she guessed that made sense. He was essentially changing everything and from his perspective putting her in danger. But she didn't need the app, and if they had to shut Sandy down then that's what they did.

"Can I ask why you've decided do this?" she asked.

Wo sighed. "I uhm… on Valentine's Day, Jian and I had a conversation about our future, or the lack thereof. And she had a point. What future could we have if I was always a fugitive?"

"You're right. She has a point."

"So I uhm… I looked into my options and came up with this one," he said. "It's not ideal, if we're being honest, I'm getting too old for this, but if it means I can give Jian what she wants then I will."

"Have you told her?"

"Not yet, I… I wanted to talk to you first."

Rowan smiled at him, she moved right away to hug him and he in turn wrapped her up in his arms and held her closely. He was scared, she could tell, and she wanted to do her best to help him feel better.

"Whatever you do I'll be here, okay?" she said and she felt him smile into her.

"Thank you. That's very much appreciated," he whispered. "Uhm, just to add, if you could maybe help me talk to Steven…"

"Steven?"

"Yes, I uh… I specifically requested to be put on Five-0 if they were going to go the Task force route," he said. "So uhm… if you could help me get him to uhm… well you know, not turn them down when they approach him…"

"Turn them down? Wo! Of course he's going to say yes, you're already working with him basically. And we both know he's going to love bossing you around."

Wo rolled his eyes. "Yeah, not looking forward to that."

"I'm surprised you agreed to this at all. You hate taking orders."

Wo Fat simply shrugged. "I want to settle down. Unfortunately to do that I'm going to have to… do a lot of things I'm not going to like. The consequences of a lifetime of crime."

Rowan just continued to hold him. "I think you're brave," she whispered.

"See anything in the strings?"

"Nothing big, nothing that could get you killed. Trust me, I look every day."

Wo smiled down at her, pressing her closer to his chest. "You check on my strings every day?"

"Yes, you and everyone I care about," she admitted and then suddenly she straightened. "Since we're on the topic of changes… could I tell you something?"

Wo Fat nodded solemnly. "Of course."

"Okay… so uhm… in my world, this is a TV show…" "—I know Rowan." "… Oh good, uhm… so I only got to the end of season 7. There was a season 8 and it had started coming out before I fell but uh… but I wasn't watching it. I like to binge watch so I usually wait until the season is over…"

"Okay, so what does that mean?"

"It means… it means we're going to come to a point where I'm not going to know what happens next… like… really soon. Like… in the next month."

"Okay? Well… I mean… that's not that bad…"

"No, I know, I mean I'll still have the strings and they'll tell me the outcomes but uhm… I'm not going to know for sure which outcome is the right one cause you know, I never saw the show…"

"Rowan," Wo Fat said taking a hold of her shoulders. "It'll be fine. We were all okay before your visions, we'll be fine without them too. I promise."

Rowan tried to smile but tears were welling up in her eyes. "I know, I'm just scared," she whispered. "I… I've been keeping everyone safe because I knew what was going to happen next, I knew how to change it. Now I'm not going to know and, well if I don't know I'm not going to be as sure. What if I mess up? What if someone dies because I pulled the wrong string?"

Wo seemed to think that over. "Okay… and uh… when was I supposed to die again?"

Rowan's eyes narrowed at him. "What does that matter?"

"Just humour me. When was it?"

"Uhm… about three years ago, two and a bit? Why?"

"Well… if I died on that show two, almost three years ago, how have you been keeping me safe?"

Rowan blinked her eyes. "Well… the strings warn me when you're in trouble…"

"And Con, was he in the show?"

"No… but…"

"Do the strings warn you about him?" Rowan paused and he smiled because he knew that they did. "Babe, your show, as amazing as you clearly think it is, is not definitive. And clearly not set in stone. Because if it was, I wouldn't be here right now. And I'm only one of the things you changed."

"That's true."

"You make decisions that save people. You do it all the time, with or without the show. So… don't you worry, okay baby girl. I know you'll protect us, even when I don't need you to, and if anyone gets hurt on your watch well… then the strings had it out for them no matter what you did."

Rowan half laughed at him, swiping away the two tears that escaped her eyes. "You always know what to say to me."

"Eh, that's my job. I'm the oldest brother. I gotta be the wise one," he said, wrapping an arm his sister's shoulders and tugging her to his side. She, in turn, wrapped an arm around his chest and pressed into him.

Steve came pounding down the stairs, took in Wo Fat standing there with Steve's wife pressed to his side, looked them up and down and said: "Really? Why? You know what, I don't have time for this. Did you make my coffee like I asked?"

"Yeah, coffee's brewed you just have to pour it, travel mug is at pot and ready for you. Also if you look in the fridge you'll see that I made you lunch."

"You can't make your own coffee, Steven?" Wo Fat asked and Steve turned a scowl to him.

"I'm in a rush. I asked for a favour… why is he here, Rowan?"

"Well, since you had a case, I figured I could go out for a brother's day," she said which wasn't why he was there at all but he figured he could spend a few hours with his little sister.

"Another brother's day? Where's Con then?"

"Working, I could have pulled him but Wo feels like he's a third wheel sometimes so he requested one on one time," she said.

Steve blinked his eyes. "Wow, I can't imagine how that would feel," he said pinning Wo Fat with a dry glare.

"Your sarcasm is not appreciated," Wo snapped. "Not when I was the one suggesting either inviting you along or bringing you a souvenir."

Another lie but it fit seamlessly with the lies Rowan was telling, and she didn't correct him either. Just like he hadn't corrected her.

"Well it's going to have to be the souvenir because I caught a case," he said. He leant in to press a kiss to Rowan's cheek. "Be good, please. I don't want to have to bail you out again."

Rowan nodded and then watched as Steve moved in to hug Wo Fat who accepted it despite looking ridiculously uncomfortable with it.

"Right, you two have fun," and then he was heading for the door. They both called out a good-bye to him as he left.

As soon as Steve was gone, Rowan turned back to him. "Do you wanna head out to talk to Jian before work."

"Yeah… then me and you could have an actual brother's day."

"Oh… should I call Con?"

"No, I actually do feel like a third wheel when we're with him sometimes… though you knew that didn't you?" he asked and Rowan nodded. He shook his head at her. "Some one-on-one time would be great."

"Wonderful. Portal's open, text me when you wanna come back."

Wo Fat nodded briefly then paused. "Do you think… do you think you could come with me?"

"I mean… sure, but don't you think she'll be happy?"

"I mean sure, I'm sure she'll be happy eventually but… you know… I'm going to be well… away, for a long time and I'm sure that's going to be… hard…"

Ah so he was worried that she was not going to like how they got to the kind of future she wanted with him. Worried that she wouldn't want to wait.

"Okay, sure. Let me just get changed out of my pjs and then we'll head out."

Wo nodded and let her leave. Well this wasn't how she thought the day was going to go, she definitely wasn't ever expecting this change either, but if this was what he wanted they yes, she would support her brother through this.

Before Danny got the call to come to the office, he picked up Charlie. He had Charlie because Rachel was busy with the divorce lawyers and Danny loved hanging out with Charlie. He did however, have to go into work to finish up some things, so he figured he'd take Charlie with him.

Bout time the kid saw where his dad worked.

So he got into the main hallway, the door propped open so Charlie could walk through and then let the little guy look around.

"This is it. This where Daddy works. What do you think?"

Charlie hit him with an appreciative whoa that made Danny feel proud.

"Hey, pretty cool, huh?" Charlie nodded quickly and Danny continued with the tour. "This, look at this. This is Auntie Kono's office. That's Uncle Chin's off. Papa's office right over here."

He figured that was enough for now, but as he was ushering Charlie over to his office Charlie asked: "What about Uncle Steve's?"

"That's… look, I'll show you," he said and then pointed off to where Steve's larger office was in the corner away from everyone else's. "Look, see, way, way, way off in the corner there. We keep him over there, it's like he's in exile."

"What does that mean?"

"It means that he's… uh… you know…" he trailed off as he thought of a good comparison. "You know how when you do something bad, you get a timeout?'

"Yeah."

"That's Steve. He's in a constant state of timeout, Steve." He then ushered Charlie into his office as the little boy shook his head.

"He's a bad boy," he lamented, because just like with Grace he often commiserated with Charlie about how stubborn and pigheaded Steve was.

"He's the worst. The worst."

The door shut behind them and Charlie paused and looked up to his dad. "Where is Auntie Ro's office?"

"Well, Auntie Ro doesn't work with us… uh… officially so she doesn't have an office, but if she is here, she uses Uncle Steve's. Which is sad cause we like Auntie Ro more than we like Uncle Steve so we don't like to keep her in time out," Danny said. "Couch or floor?"

"Floor," Charlie said going to sit down. Danny handed him his back pack with the instruction to play and Charlie immediately unzipped his backpack and upended all his toys onto the floor.

Danny took his seat and had only been sitting for a few seconds when Steve suddenly came in. There were several things wrong with this, starting with Steve was supposed to be off, following with Danny hadn't told Steve he was there, and lastly because he had come in with a brown cardboard box that had a ribbon around it. The ribbon has to be Rowan's doing, maybe not in color but the wrapping of it.

Rowan took her gift wrapping seriously. Steve was no doubt in charge of everything else and she had done her best to make it look presentable for him. The ribbon was this hideous mix of grey and green that Steve must have bought without Rowan around to stop him.

"Hey Charlie," Steve cried offering him a fist bump that the kid took up right away.

"Hi, Uncle Steve."

Steve glanced over to Danny. "What's going on?"

"What, uh, what are you doing here? You're supposed to be with Rowan today."

"Uh, yes mother, I was with Rowan, but I got called in here…"

"She can't be happy about that."

"No, well it's okay, cause she has an impromptu Brother's Day going on today so I'm sure she'll be fine."

"Brothers huh? Didn't know they were back on the island."

Steve shook his head. "Naw, just one brother."

"Only one brother?" "—That's what I said, one brother." "Which… uh… which brother is she hanging out with today?"

"Her eldest," he said and Danny nodded. Right so Wo Fat was on the island which meant the calm that Steve was projecting was a façade because he was never calm when Rowan was alone with Wo Fat. Yes, he said he trusted her with him but he didn't. Well, more aptly he didn't trust Wo Fat with her, no matter how helpful the man had been with her so far.

Okay that's unfair. Steve trusted Rowan. It was Wo Fat that Steve didn't trust.

"So, what's the occasion?" Steve asked after putting the box on the desk. He was talking about Charlie, Danny was wondering what the gift was about.

"He's here because, uh, Mom had to go see the D-I-V-O-R-C-E lawyer for a couple of hours."

Steve getting on the ground to play with Charlie. "Uh-huh. C-O-P-Y T-H-A-T. By the way, that is from me and my family to you."

"Did Ro make you say that?"

"Yes," Steve said trying to focus on Charlie and his trucks and green plastic army men.

Danny picked up the box and looked it over. He shook it trying to figure out what it was, but it wasn't very heavy. So, he just rested it in his lap and sort of fiddled with the ribbon mostly in a nervous fashion because he didn't know what this was or why Steve would just hand him a gift. Unless it did wasn't for him.

"So… what is it?"

"Well why don't you open it?"

Except Danny didn't want to because this was probably a gag gift and he was not in the mood to be teased right now.

"It's not my birthday."

"So what? It doesn't have to be a special occasion. I got you a gift…"

"I thought Nahele and Rowan got me this gift too…"

"Kay well it was Rowan's idea, and Nahele had the idea to have it… you know… personalized. But I'm the one that went and paid for it and wrapped it and…"

"I can tell Rowan did this bow…"

"Okay yeah, but I picked the ribbon. And brought it here."

Right so Rowan didn't have a say in the ribbon, cause she would have brought a prettier one. And it sounded like her and Nahele did all the heavy work and Steve was skating by on the bare minimum but taking the credit.

Danny put the box back on the desk and just stared at it.

"Okay you don't have to make a big deal about it, just open it."

"Mother's Day?"

"What?"

"Mother's Day. It's, uh, Mother's Day in a week and I'm very overprotective, you're doing a thing, you're making a joke…" Steve shook his head at him. "No?"

"Oi, you know, you're crazy. You're a crazy person, right Charlie?"

Charlie just smiled up to him but Danny was offended.

"No. I'm not crazy. Cause your wife… she has a history of sick pranks and you… just… you know I'm not interested in a goof or a gag gift…"

Steve shook his head. "I don't know why I try to be nice. I just wanted to get you something. Forget about it, alright?"

Steve getting up and reaching for the gift but Danny stopping him.

"Whoa, whoa, hey, hey, hey," he said grabbing it before Steve could get it off of his desk. "You can't take back a gift."

"Fine, then open it!"

"You know, this gesture of generosity is very uncharacteristic of you."

"I got it. Why don't I just take it and smash it over your head?"

"You see, you see what I mean?" Danny asked Charlie who nodded and then said: "Danno I'm hungry."

"Hungry?" Danny echoed as Steve said: "Kid's hungry." Turning back towards Charlie

"There's a vending machine right down the hall. It is loaded with good things. Come on. Uncle Steve's gonna take you. Let's go. Oh but don't open that gift until I get back."

"I'd rather you not, actually."

Steve's eyes narrowed. "What, come back?"

"Well, that too, but no, uh, take him to eat at the vending machine."

"Why not?"

"Well, cause there's not a lot of healthy options in the vending machine, Steve."

"Danny, I eat out of that thing three times a week."

"I know. You do all kinds of things that are unhealthy for your body, but eating at the vending machine is one of the things you do," he said. "Though not so much recently cause Rowan's been making you lunches to go with those pills." He then focused in on Charlie. "Broke my liver is what he did."

"No, my liver is not broken, Danny. You can't break a liver," Steve snapped. "Here, compromise. We're gonna find you something nutritious and healthy in that vending machine. Alright?" He then turned to Charlie: "What's your poison anyway, buddy? Twinkies? Oreos? Snickers? You like Snickers?"

"No," Danny cried.

"No? It has nuts in it, nuts are healthy?"

"Are you serious, would you say that to Nahele?" Danny cried. "You know what don't answer that, cause you don't feed the kid, Rowan does. And don't tell me you do feed him cause I remember what your place looked like when CPS came through and decided you were an unfit parent. Take out boxes galore cause that was all you were feeding him…"

"Why would you bring that up?" Steve asked an actual anger crossing his face. "Why would you say that? I take care of my kid Danny! We… you know… I make him dinner."

"Name one dinner you made this month that you didn't first have delivered?"

Steve just stood there glaring at him and then said: "What is your problem with snickers?"

"Because he doesn't need sugar, Steven. The kid's almost seven sugar is going to make him hyper."

Steve shook his head leading Charlie out of the office, being sure to lean in to stage whisper: "Hey, Charlie, why is your dad such a poopie-head sometimes, huh?"

"Don't say poo… hey Charlie, see why he gets timeouts?"

Steve froze. "You told him about my time… what did he tell you about my timeouts? Huh?"

They were about to devolve into another argument when Kono showed up in the doorway. "There you guys are, come on," she cried.

"Whoa, wait a second what's going on?" Steve asked

"I've got a break in the Emilio case," she said. "Moani – she got us a lead."

Steve nodded. Right so that's what he was there for. "Kay, I'mma take Charlie here to the vending machines for some healthy snacks and I'll call Ro to come get him, okay?"

"No, no, I don't want her brother anywhere near Charlie…"

"Oh pshh," Steve said waving him off. "If my kid loves him, your kid will."

And then Steve was leaving with Charlie with him and Danny was struggling not to groan.

God Steve was so frustrating sometimes.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

When Jian woke up the smell of pancakes wafting through her apartment, Wo wasn't in the bed with her but she didn't mind because clearly he had made her breakfast.

She smiled to herself as she stretched, before getting up and out of bed. Usually she'd wear a robe as she pottered around the house in the morning, but today Wo deserved something a little more.

She had gone to bed her in navy blue silky pjs. The tank top shirt was easy to brush aside, and she loved the little ruffles on the short cuffs. Wo also loved this set, for the same reasons she liked it. The easy to get into shirt, the little ruffles on the cuffs, and the way the silk felt under his palms. She was sure if she walked out of the bedroom and draped herself against her man he'd fuck her right there in the kitchen.

The problem was the second she got out of the bedroom it was clear that Wo was not alone.

"Morning!" Rowan cried when she spotted her. "I made pancakes!"

Jian was stopped dead in her tracks at the sight of her boyfriend's sister in their kitchen. Wo was sitting at the counter on one of the barstools, dressed in plain black jeans and a blue polo with a black collar, he was staring at her with wide eyes, clearly worried about what her reaction was going to be.

Rowan on the other hand was in shorts. Navy blue, with light blue pin striped baggy shorts and a white tank top with thick straps with ruffles around her sleeves. Her hair was just a little bit past her chin and the beach waves were trying to come through turning the ends of her hair up in a sort of half curl.

Rowan always looked so very well put together no matter what she was wearing or the situation it was actually rather daunting. Jian had been trying to not compare herself to her boyfriend's sister but honestly, she couldn't help herself.

Rowan was what Wo Fat was used to. Someone who was sleek and fashionable at all times. People didn't look at her beside her brother and wonder how those two went together. In fact, she wouldn't be surprised if everyone just assumed the two of them were dating.

Rowan, however, was smiling widely at her because she always looked so happy to see her. Jian simply raised a finger, a single finger meant to signify that she needed one minute and then she disappeared into their room. She didn't have time to actually get herself together, so what she did was put the robe on, run her fingers through her hair to try and fix the bed head situation going on and then she joined them out in the kitchen.

"Morning," she said carefully. "I wasn't expecting you."

"I'm sorry," Wo said right away offering her a hand. She came to him and he pulled her to his side, pressing a kiss to her cheek. "I asked her here."

"Okay, but why?"

"I'm his emotional support sister today," she said. "One pancake or two?"

Her pancakes were green, why where they green? Rowan caught the stare right away.

"They're matcha pancakes," she said. "I made them with yogurt to smooth out the taste, and I have honey and whip cream to top."

That actually sounded good. "Uhm… just one," she said as she watched Rowan put a plate with four pancakes on it for Wo who immediately went about drowning them with honey.

"I thought you don't like sweet things," she murmured.

"Rowan's pancakes are the exception," he said as Rowan put the plate in front of her. One pancake just as she asked. She had dusted hers with icing sugar which was pretty spot on for what she wanted. She waited for Wo Fat to be done with the honey and then added a touch of icing sugar to his too.

They were quiet a moment as Wo Fat turned all his attention onto his pancakes. Rowan, however, wasn't eating, she was just leaning back against the counter and drinking tea from out of one of Wo's favourite mugs.

She cleared her throat and beside her Wo straightened. "Wo," Rowan urged.

"I don't want to."

Rowan rolled her eyes. "You brought me here to help you talk to her, so go on."

A sort of dread whispered through her and she turned to the man she had come to love. He was breaking up with her, wasn't he? That's why his sister was there, as moral support.

Wo turned a glare to Rowan but she simply glared back.

"It's a nice morning. Let us have a nice morning…"

"That is exactly why you've been putting this off," she snapped. "Tell her or I will."

"Tell me what?" Jian asked clearly not liking what was happening right now.

It sounded like the conversation a mistress had when telling her beau to tell his wife about them.

Wo had promised that they weren't romantically interested in each other. He swore on his mother's grave, on his sister's life. And Steven was obsessed with Rowan, how would he have let this happen?

Eventually Wo Fat huffed and he turned to Jian with a sigh.

"I've done something… something for our… uhm… for our future, but I don't think you'll like it."

At this her eyes narrowed. On the one hand her heart was near bursting because he referenced the future as their future. Theirs together. On the other hand, she was about to have a panic attack because dear god what had he done?

Still, Jian tried to reign in her emotions as she faced her boyfriend. "Okay, and what is it that you did?"

"I bartered an exchange," he said. "With the uhm… with the CIA."

Jian blinked her eyes, right, so that… that sounded pretty strange. What could he have had that the CIA could want?

"As of next week, I'll be turning myself in to their custody…" He was getting arrested? "The plan is I will be working for them as a sort of… community service… and eventually… when they've decided I've done enough I can… uhm… I can retire and skip the jail time entirely."

Oh my god.

He… he had found a way to not be a fugitive and yet not go to jail. He was doing it so she could settle down with him and not leave everything behind if they have to go on the run.

She then glanced at Rowan. "Am I to assume that you spoke to your sister about this before me?"

Wo too glanced at Rowan before admitting that he did.

"Only this morning," Rowan clarified for her. "It wasn't like we were having full discussions about it before he went through with it, I got blindsided just like you. Just uh… an hour earlier."

"But you thought I'd be angry? You thought I'd be so angry that you brought your sister?"

"I… well… I'm going to be away, for a while, for well a lot…"

"And what? You thought I'd leave you?"

"I mean, it's not ideal, is it? Me being gone more than I'm here…"

"Your sister has magic powers. I'm sure she can find a way for you to come and visit when you can."

Wo glanced once more to his sister before turned back to her. "I mean… I hadn't planned on bothering her with that…"

"No, that's fine, I'm sure I can. But uh… but it's very important that the CIA doesn't find out about my powers, so we'll have to be careful, but I'm sure I can swing it."

Jian reached out for Wo, taking a hold of his hands and holding on to him tightly. "You did this for me, because of what I said on Valentine's day?"

He nodded and she almost burst into tears right then and there. That conversation on Valentine's day had been her insecurities and fears talking. She hadn't meant any of it, she never would have broken up with him over that, she loved him, and she didn't want to lose him.

"I want to give you the kind of future you deserve. And you were clear that we wouldn't have a future if I were always on the run. I know this isn't ideal, that you'd rather have me here most of the time, but this was the only way I could make that happen."

"You are what I deserve," she whispered. "And thank you, thank you for doing this for me. And don't you worry I will be waiting here, no matter how long it takes because I love you and no, you still don't need to say it to me…"

"Thank you," he whispered.

"But you have to promise to be careful," she said. "No getting shot somewhere where I can't come see you."

"Deal!" he said and then she jumped into his arms, pressing a kiss first to his lips and then all over his face.

All of a sudden they were both enveloped in a hug from Rowan who had clearly rushed around the counter to hug them.

"Oh I'm so glad this worked out!" she cried, hugging them both tightly.

Jian couldn't help but smile, she just couldn't. She had a man who clearly loved her, even if he wasn't able to say it yet. A man who was willing to give up his whole way of life because she had basically asked him to.

Wo Fat was doing everything he could to become the kind of man and partner she deserved. The least she could do is start being more like the woman and partner that he deserved too.
