Episode 432: A Connoisseur's Revenge
A little while after exiting from the Pinwheel Forest, the group made a stop to a Pokémon Center in Castelia City to rest up their Pokémon, also to check on their eggs. Sora and Kairi both saw how close the eggs were getting close to hatching.
"Are the eggs getting close to hatching?" Ventus asked.
"They really are. Kairi and I noticed it just a little while ago," Sora said.
"That's why we're here mostly?" Iris asked.
"Yeah," Sora answered.
"This takes me back to the time the egg Sora had in Sinnoh hatched into a Riolu," Terra said.
"I remember that," Aqua said.
"And that little Riolu was no ordinary Riolu," Terra added. Cilan and Iris turned to him.
"What do you mean by that, Terra?" Iris asked.
"Sora's Riolu could use Aura Sphere, which is very unusual, because Riolu don't normally use Aura Sphere unless it evolves into a Lucario," Terra explained.
"A Riolu that could use Aura Sphere? Sora is even full of even more flavor than I thought," Cilan said.
"It did draw in some unwanted attention. Somehow, so bad guy wanted Riolu for himself, so he hired a Pokémon Hunter to take Riolu from Sora. It was a Pokémon Hunter who calls herself J. Fortunatley the Sinnoh region can no longer worry about her since she died when her flying fortress exploded in Lake Valor," Aqua said.
The group left out the part that involved the Digimon since they figured it was very unlikely that they would believe them, especially when it came to the Digital World. The moment was interuppted when the eggs started to hatch right at the same time.
"Guys! The eggs are hatching!" Ventus exclaimed.
"What we are witnessing is the birth of two new Pokémon," Cilan said. The eggs has hatched completely as a Munna and a Cubchoo are now born. They both yawned as they had hatched. Iris and Axew fliunched when they saw it was a Cubchoo.
"Two new Pokémon right at the same time," Meowth said.
"A C-C-C-Cubchoo," Iris shivered.
"Xew," Axew also shivered. Sora, Kairi, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, and Cilan took notice of it.
"Iris, what's wrong?" Sora asked.
"Why did one of them has to be an Ice Type?" Iris asked,
"Iris?" Aqua asked. Cubchoo started to go up to Iris and she jumps on the bunk bed above her.
"Keep it away!" Iris demanded.
"What's the matter with you, Iris?" Terra asked.
"Ice Type Pokémon are scary! And Cubchoo are definitely scary!" Iris exclaimed.
"Cubchoo isn't scary. Cubchoo's cute," Kairi cooed. "And so it Munna."
"Cute or not, Cubchoo's still scary to me!" Iris exclaimed.
"What's with her? Why is she afraid of Ice Types?" Ventus asked.
"I think I have an idea," Meowth said, laughing. "It's because Dragon Type Pokémon weak against ice,so it's no wonder she's a total chicken when it comes to Ice Types," Meowth laughed. Iris glared right at the scratch cat Pokémon.
"What did you call me?!" Iris hissed. Meowth shook in fear.
"Meowth, your theory was good, but the chicken part should have stayed in your head," Sora said.
"Meowth is right about one thing. The reason that I'm afraid of Ice Type Pokémon is because of they have an advantage over Dragon Types. The other reason is because they're pretty cold. I heard stories about Kyurem of how it'll bring a blizzard that would make it winter here in Unova forever," Iris explained.
"No wonder. Well, I won't make fun of your fears, Iris," Sora said.
"Me neither," Kairi added.
Iris was appreciative of the couple for being so considerate with her feelings. The group went to get their Pokémon from Nurse Joy, which was perfect since Sora wanted to introduce them, and so did Kairi. Oshawott, Golett, Yamask, Sewaddle, Purrloin, Woobat, Patrat, and Deerling were brought out to meet the two new Pokémon.
"Guys, meet Cubchoo and Munna, our new friends. Cubchoo, meet Sewaddle, Yamask, Pansear, and Golett," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Deerling, Patrat, Woobat, Purrloin, meet Munna," Kairi said.
The Pokémon all greeted the newest members of the team with a warm welcome.
"Now that everyone is good and healed, we should head on out to Virbank City," Sora said.
"But before we do that I think we should stock up on supplies first. We're going to need some potions, antidotes, and other needed accessories," Terra said.
"I agree. I just heard some whispers of a brand new Poké Mart opening today," Cilan said.
"That's a good idea, because we're going to need it," Sora said.
With that said, the group made their way the new Poké Mart, and saw how the outside looks like a mall that caters to Pokémon. They entered inside and saw how huge it was.
"Whoa. It looked smaller outside," Meowth said.
"There's so much to see. I wonder which one to try first," Iris said. SHe spots a stand that caught her eye. "There!" She went right over to the stand. Ventus, Terra, Aqua, and Meowth went with her. Axew pops out of Iris's hair.
"Aw, how cute," the female clerk said. She walked up to Iris. "Don't you think your Axew would like to wear this?" She presents an indigo gem to her. "This Dragon Gem will raise your Axew's Dragon Type moves by fifty percent."
"A Dragon Gem?" Ventus asked.
"The Dragon Gem is just one of special gems that are used to increase a Pokémon's power of a certain Type. Each one of these gems caters to the other Types of Pokémon in battle," the clerk explained. Iris looked right at Axew.
"I think I'll pass," Iris said.
"Very well. Feel free to look around and let me know if something catches your eye," the clerk said.
"This place must have everything they need for Pokémon," Sora said.
"Pika," Pikachu said.
"At least we won't have to by that store bought Pokémon food, because it's just a waste of money," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"It's fortunate that marts like this has ingredients needed to make the Pokémon food you need," Cilan said. Sora and Kairi noticed a line.
"What's going on here?" Sora asked.
"They must in line for a Connoisseur shop," Cilan said.
"Connoisseur shop?" Sora asked.
"Yes. As you already know, Pokémon Connoisseurs are well-known in the Unova region. And you will find Connoisseur shops all through Unova," Cilan said.
"Why would they open their own shops?" Sora asked.
"It's to test the capabilities of Pokémon and trainers, and give them advice," Cilan said.
"How do you become a Pokémon Connoisseur?" Kairi asked.
"A Pokémon Connoisseur has to go through a class to learn the basics. Every Connisseur has a rank. The lessons is held at the Pokémon Conniseurs Association. When you pass you start off in the C class, that's the lowest rank. Then, you work your way up to B class, then to A class, then finally, to the highest rank of Pokémon Connoisseurs can have is the S class. In order to check on Pokémon compatibility, you have to be at least an A class or higher. And it so happens to be that I happen to be an A class," Cilan explained.
Inside, a boy with a Minncino is sitting before a woman wearing a tuxedo.
"The two of you have a beatuful partnership," the woman said. She petted the chinchilla Pokémon, making it smile. "Only fully ripen trainers and their Pokémon possess a mellow-kind of vibe. It shows how well you raised your Minncino." The boy smiled as se opened her curtain.
"That's great. Thanks very much," the boy said, taking off.
"Next in line, please," the woman said.
"That's me!" A girl spoke.
"She's a Connisseur?" Sora asked.
"She is. The proper name of a female Connisseur is Connaisseuse. Why don't you two take some consultation from her. I think it'll do you some good to hear someone else's feedback for a change," Cilan suggested.
"Why not? We could give it a shot' Sora said.
"I'll go browse some of the Pokémon food products," Cilan said.
"You do that," Sora said. The couple got in line as they waited for their turn. "Long lin, huh?"
"Pika," Pikachu said.
"I guess everyone wants to hear some feedback," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Excuse me. You two," a girl's voice said. "You two don't need to stand in that silly line. I'm a Connaisseuse, too."
"You'll see us right away?" Kairi asked.
"Indeed, mademoiselle. Right this way," the girl said. The Connaisseuse reavealed herself to the couple. She is a slim girl with fair skin, curly dark purple hair cut into a bob, and lilac eyes. She wore a slightly masculine outfit that consists of a red blouse with four yellow buttons, a pale pink long-sleeved shirt with red cuffs and a red tie-like ribbon on the collar, slim-fit black pants, and dark red shoes with dark-colored socks underneath. "Have a seat, here you go!"
"I'm Sora, and this is my girlfriend Kairi," Sora introduced.
"Nice to meet you," Kairi said.
"My name's Burgundy. I may not look like it, but I'm a skilled Connaisseuse ranked by the Pokémon Connisseurs Association," Burgundy said. "Other than compatibles, I can also give greet advice on preparing Pokémon food, battle strategies, and even choice of accessories," Burgundy said.
"Okay, Kairi and I have been a journey for a long time, so we were wondering if you would share the compatibility between us and our Pokémon," Sora said.
"You mean Pikachu and Eevee! Those are pretty rare Pokémon. Piakchu can't be found anywhere in Unova. And they have quite some unique aromas," Burgundy said.
"No, we're very compatible with them. It's the newest ones we have here," Sora said. He and Kairi each took out a Pokéball and opened them to reveal Cubchoo and Munna.
"Yes, I would love to have a look at the four of you. Oui! It's evaluating time! S'il vous plaît!" Burgundy said. She analyzed both of Cubchoo and Munna from left to right and from up to down. "Ho,ho, ho."
"So, what do you think?" Sora asked.
"The partnerships between you and your Cubchoo and Munna is-" Burgundy paused for a moment before she pressed her finger into Sora's face, "THE WORST! EVER!"
"The worst ever?" Sora and Kairi asked in unison.
"This Cubchoo appears to be too good nature for an actual battle. And as for Munna, this Munna's special ability is Synchronize. You would be better off with a Munna whose ability is Forewarn," Burgundy said.
"Why's that?" Kairi asked.
"Vee?" Angel asked.
Burgundy paused before answering, "Uh, just because."
"I think we're done here," Sora said.
"Hold on, I wanna see more of your Pokémon," Burgundy demanded.
"Seriously?" Sora asked.
"As a Pokémon Connaisseuse, it is my obligation to view your other Pokémon posthaste!" Burgundy said.
"If it would get us out of here, faster," Sora said. Sora and Kairi had let out Oshawott, Golett, Yamask, Sewaddle, Purrloin, Deerling, Woobat, and Patrat all came out. Burgundy examined each one of them.
"Horrid! They're all horrid! Your Sewaddle has the ability known as Swarm. You're better off with a Sewaddle that has Chlorophyll. The mask on Yamask is ugly! Golett seems okay, but it's too gravely. Purrloin's eyes are too sharp like knives. And this Oshawott is a complete waste of my time! Deerling's coat is too bright. Woobat's wings are all wrong, and Patrat's eyes are too close! Also, the bow on your Eevee is garish, and your Pikachu isn't as cute as the ones in the picture books! You both need to make a total change of your Pokémon!" Burgundy said. This offended Sora and Kairi greatly.
"How could you say such a thing about our Pokémon?" Kairi asked, feeling hurt.
"Yeah you just said that Pikachu and Eevee are rare in Unova," Sora said.
"Rare doesn't necssarily mean a good thing. You should make a complete change of your Pokémon right away!" Burgundy stated.
"I think someone should revoke your license!" Sora said.
"Who do you think you are, calling our Pokémon horrid? I don't care what you think because all of our Pokémon are fine the way they are," Kairi said.
"Yeah, that's telling her, Kairi. And we shouldn't care what she says. I think we were better off in the long line," Sora said.
"Pika," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"So, you don't mind being a pair of losers?" Burgundy asked.
"How dare you! Sora won Pokémon Leagues in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh, while I won the Grand Festivals in Hoenn and Sinnoh, so don't call us losers in our faces!" Kairi said. Burgundy turned around form the couple. Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Cilan, Iris, and Meowth came in and opened the curtains.
"There you are. We were looking for you," Iris said.
"We got worried when we saw you were gone," Cilan said. Burgundy turned when she heard his voice and spointed as she gave off a silent scream.
"You!" Burgundy said accusingly.
"Pardon?" Cilan asked. He realized who it is. "Wait, I know you." Sora and Kairi looked right at the Connisseur.
"You know her?" Sora asked.
"When did you two meet?" Kairi asked.
"She came and challnged me in the Striaton City Gym. And if I remember correctly, she lost," Cilan explained.
"And I have been waiting for this day! Today is my revenge day!" Burgundy said.
"Your revenge day? What would you want revenge for?" Cilan asked.
"I want revenge for defeating me, but for those ridiculous and hurtful things you said about my Pokémon!" Burgundy said.
"Well, I am a Pokémon Connoisseur," Cilan reminded her.
"Oh, yes sir, Mr. Connoisseur, sir!" Burgundy said.
We have a look in Burgundy's memory. She's holding her Oshawott all hurt. The Cilan in her memory gave off a dark purple aura, same as his Pansage.
"Your Pokémon have raised and stored in an unacceptable manner; as a result they have a horrendous aroma! Most unbecoming! Now, go home and wash your face, and come back when you have learned your lesson!" The Cilan in her memory said. He gave off a sinister laugh.
"I said no such thing," Cilan said.
"That was close enough. I was so hurt and angry, I swore that I would be a greater Pokémon Connisseur than you one day, and evalutae all Pokémon by aroma! First evaluated to get my license! And soon I gained recognition by earning that licesnse from the Pokémon Conniseurs Association! But when i came back to the Striaton City Gym for my revenge, your brothers told me that you have left on a journey! You knew I was coming to get even, but you ran away!" Burgundy said. She growled.
"I didn't run away at all. Look, I feel bad that you came after me looking for revenge, but this isn't a Gym, and we certain we can't have a Gym battle now," Cilan said. Burgundy showed Cilan the Trio Badge.
"I defeated Chili, and earned your Gym's Badge. All I care about now is defeating you now and taking my rank as a top class Connaisseuse," Burgundy said. "Then I'll become world famous and I'll be able to open up my own Connaisseuse shop!"
"So, you saying that this isn't your own Connaisseuse shop at all," Sora pointed out. Burgundy winced when she just realized what she just said.
"Exactly, what class of Connisseur are you?" Cilan asked.
"Well, I'm a C class. So what?" Burgundy asked.
"You mean we were being insulted by a beginner?" Sora asked.
"You were right, Sora, we should have stayed in line," Kairi said.
"C class Connisseurs are the beginning class, so in according to the Pokémon Connisseurs Association rules, you're only allowed to work as an assistant to an A class or higher," Cilan said.
"I knew you were wrong about our Pokémon," Sora said.
"No way! Any Connisseur would have said the same thign as I did! You need a complete Pokémon overhaul!" Burgundy said.
"No need for that," Cilan said. Burgundy looked at him quite flabbergasted. "Sora and Kairi has an excellent relationship with all of their Pokémon. So, it appears to be a problem with your evaluation method." Burgundy didn't like what she was told.
"What did you say?" Burgundy asked, angrily.
"The relationship with Pokémon and trainers is a complex one. You can't always make a good judgement by evaluating by the manual," Cilan said.
"I don't need a lecture from you! I already know one hundred times than you'll ever know! And I'll prove it by challening him into a Pokémon battle!" Burgundy said, pointing to Sora. CIlan turned to Sora.
"What do you say, Sora? Do you accept?" Cilan asked.
"After insulting our Pokémon, I am more than willing than to accept her challenge," Sora said.
"Then the challenge is made," Cilan said.
Outside of the Poké Mart, Sora and Burgundy got ready for their battle. Sora was more than willing to shut her up after what she said about his and Kairi's Pokémon. She turned to Cilan.
"Cilan, there's a condition to this! If I win this, I want you to accept that my Connisseur methods are right!" Burgundy stated.
"I'm afraid that will never be the case," Cilan said.
"Okay, then if I win, then Sora must agree he and Kairi must cut all the Pokémon loose and go and get new one; especially Pikachu and Eevee," Burgundy said.
"Your little problems has nothing to do with and Kairi! And if you go and drag me and my girlfriend into your little mess, that I can live with, but if you go and tell me and Kairi to abandon our Pokémon to get new ones, that's where I draw the line in the sand," Sora said. "So, I have a condition of my own."
"And that would be?" Burgundy asked.
"You take back all those things you said about all of our Pokémon," Sora said. Burgundy didn't like that condition.
"I'll never take back what I said! My reputation as a Pokémon Connaisseuse is on the line! So, let's make it a three-on-three battle!" Burgundy said.
"You're on!" Sora said. Burgundy took out her first Pokéball and threw it.
"Okay, Darumaka, let's go!" Her Pokéball opens and unleashed Darumaka. Sora took out his Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Oshawott!" Sora called out. Oshawott came on out to battle.
"Ho, ho, ho. Oshawott against my Darumaka. I'll admit you made a good choice of which one to use, but my Darumaka's spirit isn't easy to put out," Burgundy said.
"My Osawott isn't easy to put down either," Sora said. "And I'm going to prove that to you. Oshawott! Water Gun!" Oshawott unleashed Water Gun right off the bat.
"Dodge and use Fire Punch!" Burgundy ordered. Darumaka avoids Oshawott's Water Gun and came at the sea otter Pokémon with Fire Punch.
"Razor Shell!" Sora ordered. Oshawott grabs his scalchop and swings it right at Darumaka. "Now, use Sacred Sword!" Oshawott swings his sword right at Darumaka, causing some heavy damage. Darumaka was taken down. Burgundy was flabbergastered by what had happened. SHe calls back her Darumaka and took out her next Pokéball and threw it.
"Let's go, Herdier!" Burgundy called out. Herdier came on out to battle. Sora calls back Oshawott and took out his next Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Sewaddle!" Sora called out. Sewaddle came on out.
"Herdier! Use Fire Fang!" Burgundy ordered. Herdier came at Sewaddle with Fire Fang.
"Dodge and use String Shot!" Sora ordered. Sewaddle avoids Herdier's Fire Fang and unleashed String Shot onto Herdier's face. "Now, use Bug Bite!" Sewaddle uses Bug Bug onto the loyal dog Pokémon.
"Herdier! Use Tackle!" Burgundy ordered. Herdier tackled right into Sewaddle.
"Razor Leaf!" Sora ordered. Sewaddle unleashed Razor Leaf and it struck Herdier on the spot, cutting the strings in the process. "Now, use Tackle!" Sewaddle lands a Tackle onto Herdier, earning a knockout. Sewaddle then started to evolve. Sora's new Sewaddle was now a Swadloon. "You evolved!"
"Your Swadloon is okay, but it has that face, and still has that Swarm ability," Burgundy said, calling back Herdier. "Now, it's time for my third Pokémon. Go! Sawsbuck!" Her Sawsbuck came on out to battle. Sora calls back Swadloon and turned to his partner.
"You're up, Pikachu!" Sora called out.
"Pikachu," Pikachu nodded and entered the battlefield.
"So, using an Electric Type against my Sawsbuck. Surely you know that my Sawsbuck won't take too much damage from Pikachu's electricity, so what whatever you're cooking up will spoil!" Burgundy said.
"Oh, I know. You're about to find out what I can cook up," Sora said. "Pikachu! Start up with Quick Attack!" Pikachu ran towards the deer-like Pokémon.
"No you don't! Sawsbuck! Use Megahorn!" Burgundy ordered. Sawsbuck charges right at Pikachu.
"Dodge!" Sora called out.
"Use Horn Leech!" Burgundy ordered. Sawsbuck lowers its head and its horns become surrounded in orange. Its horns then start to glow gold and it charges at the mouse Pokémon with its horns pointed at them.
"Dodge again!" Sora called out. Burgundy grinned as she saw Pikachu only dodging at some point.
"Just as I said, you have the worst compatibility with your Pokémon! You're going to replace all of your Pokémon!" Burgundy said.
"Don't get ahead of yourself. Your Sawsbuck is good, but your Sawsbuck is getting pooped," Sora said.
"What do you mean pooped? Are you making fun of my Sawsbuck?" Burgundy asked, getting angry.
"Look closer," Sora said. Burgundy wasn't sure what Sora was going on about and she saw how tired her Sawsbuck was getting. She gasped.
"Crap! He's right! I was so focused on winning, I didn't notice!" Burgundy exclaimed in her thoughts.
"Sora's got this in the bag now," Ventus said.
"Burgundy's skills has improved, and she did give off some pleasing flavors, but she's still has a long way to go," Cilan said in his thoughts. "But it'll be some time before that recipe is refined and one that is destined to be a timeless classic."
"Sawsbuck! Use Jump Kick!" Burgundy ordered. Sawsbuck tries to land a kick onto Piakchu, it was haveing a hard time because of Pikachu's speed. Sawsbuck has taken some damage from the failed kick attack.
"Quick Attack and use Iron Tail!" Sora ordered. Pikachu uses his speed attack and lands a series of hits with Quick Attack and Iron Tail.
"Use Megahorn!" Burgundy ordered.
"Thunder!" Sora ordered.
"Pikachu unleashed Thunder and shocks Sawsbuck greatly.
"Ahh! Sawsbuck!" Burgundy gasped. Sawsbuck fell to the ground beaten. She ran up to her fallen Sawsbuck. "You were wonderful, Sawsbuck. Get some rest." She grolwed in her defeat.
"Looks like I'm keeping my team the way it is," Sora said.
"Burgundy," Cilan said. She looked directly at the A class Connisseur. "I think you have the ingredients to be a great Pokémon Connaisseuse, but that recipe still needs time to develop and grow."
"I am so sick of your lectures! I will be an S class Pokémon Connaisseuse and show you how strong I really am!" Burgundy stated. Cilan only smiled.
"Good. I'm looking forward to it," Cilan said. Burgundy growled again.
"I'LL HAVE MY REVENGE ON YOU ONE DAY FOR SURE!" Burgundy exclaimed, running off.
"She's fast," Ventus said.
"At least she isn't as fast as Sonic," Sora said in his thoughts.
"Just who does she think she is telling Sora and Kairi to cut their Pokémon loose just because she says so. No trainer should ever do that. That something she should know," Aqua said, disgusted by her methods.
"I understand, Aqua, but passing from C class all the way to S class is no walk in the park. Plus, you got to give her a little credit and spirit," Cilan said.
"He's right, Aqua. That is something Burgundy will have to find out for herself. And I know Sora and Kairi had no intention of doing so even if Burgundy had won," Terra said.
"Right, because it would be unfair," Sora said.
"And it took time to earn their trust; the kind of trust that won't be built up again so easily," Kairi said.
"Now, let's head head for Virbank City for the Virbank CIty Pokémon Contest," Iris said.
"Axew!" Axew added.
"Right! Let's go!" Sora said.
"Move em out!" Meowth said.
With that said, Sora, Kairi, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Cilan, Iris, Pikachu, Angel, and Meowth continued on their way to Virbank City, where the next Contest is being held.
