Chapter 492 Black SUV Surprise

"

Author's Note: A reader pointed out to me that this is my third year birthday on this site which means this story is three years old. It seems like yesterday that I started this story and I can honestly say I still love writing this story and have a lot of story left to tell.

The cover image for this story is the same one I used for the very first time I posted the first chapter.

I hope people continue to read and comment on the story. Comments help me monitor how the story is doing and if there are things that need to be tweaked. I do feel guilty about a reader asking me when Jax and Scarlett were going to have sex and I gave a good faith estimate, but that has turned out to be too optimistic. I wasn't able to write as much on this story as I'd hoped partly due to an accident that kept me from writing for a couple of weeks, I am also writing Taming Ava and I did a short story about Jax being quarantined with a romance writer and how badly that turned out for him.

In the next year, the dark sinister side of St. Thomas will be exposed, Bucky will probably have another accident, Tig may get a reality check and Scarlett and Jax will finally have sex. And the serial killer may get revealed.

Since I learned this was the story's third birthday, I wanted to post something today so the chapter is kind of short but I've done short chapters before so that's nothing new.

"

Seven black SUVs pulled up to the building making a show of parking in the red curbed no parking area. Men and women in dark suits tumbled out and marched into the building. At the security counter, a small gray haired man flashed a badge and explained they were on government business. They got into the elevators and headed for the top four floors.

The man who flashed his badge got out on the top floor flanked by three men and a woman. He stopped at an enormous mahogany desk.

"I'm Special Agent Corrigan to see . . ."

"He isn't here and he can't see you," the secretary interrupted.

"Lying to a federal agent is a crime. I know he's here."

Before the secretary could warn her boss or his assistant, the agents burst into the office.

"I'm Special Agent Corrigan and we're serving search warrants," the short gray haired man said as he handed over a sheath of papers. "You are Daniel Randall."

"You damned well know that I am," the man snapped.

"I have another present for you. An arrest warrant. You are being charged with . . ."

As some of the charges were read, Randall's assistant maintained a carefully neutral expression on his face, but there was no hiding the glee in his eyes. He'd worked with the FBI for months helping them put a case together. He didn't think this day was ever going to come.

Special Agent Corrigan read the charges on the arrest warrant.

"Those are just the opening charges. We'll be adding many more in the coming days."

"I haven't done anything wrong," Randall said with a sneer. "You can't prove anything."

"We've got witnesses. With your financial resources, we're asking for you to be held without bail because you are a flight risk. Suck down some air because this is the last time you're going to be a free man. We're going to lock you away for the rest of your life."

There was something especially sweet for the agents when they were able to bring down a man with as much money and power as Daniel Randall. The FBI loved to make a big deal of these high profile arrests to demonstrate that even the rich and powerful have to obey the law. The fact these arrests happened infrequently was more a result of how infrequently the rich and powerful had to obey the law and not a measure of how often the rich and powerful broke the law.

A flicker of a smile crossed Randall's assistant's lips as the handcuffs were slapped on his boss' wrists. He had never hated a man more and watching his boss being led away in handcuffs made some of the hell he'd been put through worth it.

By the time Daniel Randall was walked out of the building, the news media had been tipped off and were taking pictures.

Scarlett's psycho ex was finally going to answer for at least some of the crimes he'd committed.

"

Author's Note: I thought it was fitting to mostly wrap up the Scarlett's psycho ex's plotline on the story's third anniversary. This was how it was always going to end, I just moved it up a bit.
