Chapter 493 Shocking News

"

Sack and Scarlett were watching Scream 4 while Decker was working on his laptop and using the earphones to listen to music. She was trying to get into the movie, but it was the third time she'd seen it and it hadn't been so great the first time unlike the best and original Scream that she'd seen almost a dozen times.

She couldn't put Jax and the danger he was in out of her mind. It felt like she'd been waiting forever. He had on the bullet proof vest and he was with all the guys. She knew she needed to trust him and the guys with him to keep him safe, but still she worried.

"Scarlett, I need to talk to you in your bedroom," Deck said.

"OK," Scarlett said instantly alarmed. She wondered why he didn't wait until Sack was gone. It must be bad news.

"Want me to stop the movie?" Sack asked.

"No, I've seen it before."

"OK," Sack said before throwing a handful of popcorn in his mouth.

Scarlett's father brought his laptop and followed his daughter into her bedroom. She closed the door behind them and went to sit on her bed, bracing herself for bad news.

"Don't look like that," her father said. "It's good news. The best news short of death."

The tense look instantly left Scarlett's face.

"What news could be that good?"

"You don't follow news about your psycho ex?"

"No. It freaks me out."

Her father sat down on the bed beside her, angled so he could see her face.

"He's been having a lot of financial problems. Lost some of his big fancy houses and his plane. He said it was all part of a planned restructuring, but there are rumors that he made a bad bet on coin and it left him owing some people money and we're not talking bankers."

"He had probably over a hundred million dollars. How much money is enough?"

"It's his personality. He has to take risks with money to feel alive. Anyway, guess who the Feds arrested today?"

Scarlett was so stunned her mouth opened in astonishment.

"He got busted? Oh, my God, I thought he had all those people paid off."

Decker chuckled.

"It could be he didn't have the money to keep paying people off or sometimes when you pay people off, they don't stay paid off."

Decker pulled up the news stories on his laptop. Scarlett took the laptop and scrolled through the various stories.

"They've got some serious charges against him. He's facing life in prison at his age."

"He'll be lucky to live to go to trial. He's a weasel. He'll offer to give up others for reduced or no charges. They'll put a hit on him. That guy's living on borrowed time now."

"He'll get out on bail and disappear," Scarlett said, not daring to get her hopes up that her psycho ex was soon to be an ex problem.

"No, he won't get out on bail. The feds froze his assets, but they still won't give him bail because they know he's got cash stashed and he'll use it to disappear the first chance he gets. It's over for him."

"You really think his business associates will kill him in prison?" Scarlett asked.

"I think they'll try. If you offer enough money, you can always find someone willing to look the other way. Finding and kidnapping you aren't his priorities anymore."

"It just feels too good to be true," Scarlett said shutting her eyes. She let out her breath still unable to believe that the long nightmare of her psycho ex pursuing her was over.

Her father grinned.

"It is over. You still need to be careful as long as he's alive, but this should ramp down some of the pressure. With a little more luck, he'll get killed before he can sell out his business associates."

Scarlett smiled suddenly allowing herself to embrace the hope that her ex was no longer a major danger to her.

"Are you going to tell Jax?" Decker askcd.

"No. Even if I don't tell him the name, he can do an internet search and find out the name. He could find old pictures of me. I know he wouldn't put me in danger, but as long as psycho ex is alive, I just think it's safer for Jax not to know."

"I agree. I don't think Jax would dig too much into your past, but I'm sure you don't want to stir up all those old memories."

They stood up and hugged.

"At least I have a little less worry now," Scarlett said.

"Jax is going to be OK," her father reassured her.

Scarlett nodded, but couldn't shake the feeling it was going to go wrong.
