Indeedee is today called the Emotion Pokemon, a category shared with Kirlia and the legendary Mesprit, neither of whom it shares any real relationship with apart from the psychic type. But for most of Galar's history it was called the Court Pokemon, a beloved assistant of kings and aristocrats; revolutionaries, disgusted with its masters, instead called it the Servile Pokemon; the current choice is a compromise from an increasingly peaceful age.
Sexual dimorphism is known in many pokemon species, but rarely does it correspond to human gender roles as neatly as with the Indeedee, in a way which goes far beyond the female looking after her young. Human butlers in Galar and Kalos are almost invariably male (as their employers prefer), and it is male Indeedee who share their roles. And although an increasing number of men in recent times, usually ex-trainers, have entered the field of pokemon medicine, even the uniform chosen by the International Nurse Joy Association reflects its long history as women's work.
In a species with such a long history of domestication, human agency is the obvious culprit for sexual dimorphism in the Indeedee, especially in a region with a marked preference for manservants. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that Indeedee's wild ancestors were distantly related to Audino, so one can fairly surmise that healing was Indeedee's original function. But it has been lost in the contemporary male of the species in exchange for a sort of generalist personal service and greater offensive skills.
The great royal and aristocratic households of old are gone now, as are most of the careful pedigrees under which Indeedee once bred. But as long as there are people who dream of living like the lords of the past, with castles all their own, Indeedee will never lack for trainers.
