Story Start!

Something was wrong.

"Master... you need... rest."

"Asterios, do you think the three of us are alone here?" Naruto asked as he looked around. Even after 4 hours of Atalanta being gone, his nervousness had not slipped away from him. Getting used to the new era he was in had not stripped him of this sense of danger he felt.

Asterios shook his head.

"I don't know Master, I don't feel anything out of the ordinary either."

"Romani, can you do a scan of the area and see if there is any life besides us... I've got a bad feeling right now." Naruto stated into his communicator, contacting chaldea for any help easing this sense of unease that he felt. The fact that Asterios and Gareth sensed nothing wrong at all just made him feel like he was being weird. "... I feel like something is close by, just waiting for the chance to attack."

"Like an enemy Servant?"

"Who are you?" Naruto asked as a female voice came through the coms.

"Roman is getting some coffee, so everyone's favorite Da Vinci is in charge. Well, Naruto, it seems that there are no unusual life readings in the area. There is an unusually high amount of mana around you though, you might be standing on top of a leyline." Vinci stated, and Naruto raised an eyebrow.

He knit his eyebrows together moments later.

"Leonardo Da Vinci... as in the maker of the Mona Lisa... wait a second... are YOU that woman who looked like the Mona Lisa I saw?"

"Yep."

"Heh... good to know. Unusual amount of mana... leyline... so I'm not weird for thinking that this area has a dangerous vibe to it?" Naruto asked, just to be sure. He looked at Gareth as she cooked over the fire that they had going. She had come back with a boar that she cooked up for them, and though it seemed that Servants didn't need to eat they could still enjoy it. "Nevermind what a leyline is for that matter. I feel like magic is at work here... Gareth, Asterios, we're moving out." Naruto stood up.

"What about Archer?"

"I'll summon her to us at noon when she is done collecting as much info as she can, but we need to get out of the area. I feel-"

-With Atalanta-

'It's nightime, but the guards are still patrolling the city so harshly.' Atalanta snuck into the city and pulled a cloak over her ears. She could see a bar that had the torches inside of it lit up, meaning that business was going there. She snuck passed a few patrolling soldiers, before she made her way into the bar. '... It reeks...' Atalanta covered her nose as she slowly allowed herself to adjust to the smells.

It smelled like booze, sweat, and men.

"Oi oi! We've got a seat for you here pretty thing."

'There are soilders here, but Master might not appreciate...' Atalanta thought to herself, and she found herself sitting down at a table next to a soldier. "I apologize, as a weary traveler, can I trouble thou for some water?" Atalanta posed a question to the man she sat next to.

"Sure."

When she had water in front of her, she drank from it, and she waited for awhile.

"Everyone seems in a good mood, what hath happened here?" Atalanta questioned, looking around at the cheery mood of the bar. The patrons seemed to be enjoying the mood most of all, and she noticed that many people who bore arms had put them down in favor of being merry. "Has Emperor Nero decreed a holiday?" Atalanta posed the question slyly, but with genuine curiousity in her tone at the very least.

"Emperor Nero... HAH, didn't you here, just two days ago birthed the United Roman Empire, with great leaders from the past. Greater leaders than Nero in charge of it. This entire city has joined that empire instead, you won't find any of us celebrating a holiday that joke emperor created."

'So Master was correct, Nero's leadership is the target of the enemy. Great Leaders from the past?' Atalanta gained some useful information for her Master with that statement. "Oh... I was unaware of this United Empire, what is their goal?"

"The destruction of Rome, and the unification of the roman people under better leadership is what my superiors have told me. Once Nero is dead, we will absorb Rome into our United Roman Empire, and bring greatness back to it."

'Nero is alive, and at the moment the enemy is still gathering forces. These people are celebrating because they just joined this united force, they have yet to go into battle.' Atalanta looked at the armor of all of the soldiers in the bar. Their armor was unblemished, showing that all of them have yet to experience a recent battle. They were far too cheerful as well, showing that they were recently put into this excited mood. 'Nero is alive, and the enemy is gathering forces to kill him and destroy Rome.

This was too convenient.

No, this made sense. This village was 3 days away from Rome, which meant that it was the perfect distance to start gathering forces. The people here were close enough to Rome to experience emotions towards Nero, but far enough away that Nero wouldn't hear about any rebellions until it was too late.

'A servant!'

"Men, it is okay to drink and be merry, but not in the presence of an enemy!"

Atalanta jumped into action when she felt an attack come her way. Her bow was already put and unleashing arrows towards the servant that she sensed. She clicked her teeth with a shield blocked those very arrows.

'A Lancer, just like Gareth. We're inside of a building, and at short range. Against a Lancer with a shield, I'm at a severe disadvantage... and I'm surrounded by armed enemies.' Atalanta had wondered into a bad situation for herself. She was facing a large and muscular man who only wore a helmet, a spear, a shield, and tights over her crotch, finally a red cape over his shoulders. 'That helmet, shield, and spear...'

"Yes, General Leonidas!"

"That woman is too much for you men to handle, leave her to me. Scout the area for any companions that she might have nearby!" Leonidas charged towards Atalanta. She pulled her hood over her ears and kept her tail out of sight. "Come, do battle with me Archer!"

Atalanta had that one advantage going for her.

She shot the ceiling several times until it collapsed around her, and with her speed she jumped out of the hole she made. She needed to make a retreat, fighting a Lancer under these conditions was not in her best interest. Not when she had a lot of valuable information to pass over to Naruto.

"I'm sorry, but I can't have you running off to your Master, now can I? What would the point of summoning Leonidas be otherwise."

Atalanta looked and she narrowed her eyes when she saw the man who had summoned Leonidas, the man named Lev. The modern day mage who betrayed chaldea, and in his hand was the Holy Grail. She took aim with her bow, but she jumped when she would have been beheaded by a spear slash from behind.

"Leonidas, see to it that she doesn't return to her Master." Lev spoke out cheerfully.

'They still don't know my true identity, which is why Leonidas is weary at the moment, and why Lev isn't attacking me himself. I need to make sure they don't get a good look at my face, but more than that this man summoned a servant in an area that gives a tactical advantage to those fighting archers.' Atalanta jumped from building to building. She didn't even shoot at Leonidas for risk of revealing herself and losing the advantage of having her identity be a secret.

"Men! We give chase, archers, to the back! Spearmen, to the front with me and charge!"

'I see... Archers tend to be fast, but in the hours I spent running here, Lev must have figured out that I was an Archer and made sure to prepare an opponent for me. He must have been in this city... bad luck.' Atalanta ran away from the direction she originally came from. 'I'll lead Lancer as far away from the city as possible, in the opposite direction of Master.' Atalanta did a backflip and unleashed a volley of arrows to shoot down the arrows that were shot towards her.

-With Naruto-

"SHIT!"

"Master, don't worry, I've got this!" Gareth took the head off a zombie soldier with her lance, and blocked a sword strike aimed at Naruto with her shield. Roman Zombies started to come out of the ground around them in greater numbers, and the more they fought them, the more that spawned to take them out.

Asterios ripped through them with relative ease, but the sheer numbers were making it hard for him to take them all out without taking an attack or two in response. The zombies had retained their fighting ability from when they were alive, and now they were stronger than when they had been alive as well.

"Vinci, we rayshifted to a place with dense mana... do mana dense areas spawn undead!?" Naruto asked into his communicator as he watched his servants do battle. Naruto extended his hand towards Asterious.

"Whoooooo!"

"First Aid!" Naruto focused on his Mystic code and shot a healing magic at Asterios, and a good portion of the wounds that he had recieved had been healed. Naruto clicked his teeth and ran from a small group of sword using zombies. Asterios chopped them down when they got close though. "Okay, Gareth, Asterios, we hold our ground!"

"Necromany is a common magecraft, this area might be a place where a lot of...yes, the mana in the ground is dense. The enemy seems to be using this area to raise undead minions."

"Gotcha, Asterios, you go wild and take out everything. Don't worry, I'll keep healing you. Gareth, stay on the defensive as much as you can, draw them towards you in a large group!" Naruto gave out his orders. He made sure to get out of harms way as best as he could so that he could communicate with chaldea. "Vinci, we're fighting zombie romans at the moment. Emergency Evade!" Naruto pointed at Gareth.

Her body twisted as if by forced instinct, and she dodged a sword slash aimed at her from behind. Naruto then pointed at her again, and he shot magical energy towards her. She glowed for a moment, before he body was enhanced.

"I'll fight as long as you order me Master!" Gareth took out a group of zombies in one strike

"Are there any enemies in the area that are alive?" Naruto asked.

"No, we aren't reading any life signs or spirit origins. There are no servants nearby."

"First Aid!" Naruto's response was to heal Asterios again. Naruto felt a twinge of pain in his fingertips when he activated the spell a second time too quickly. "We can thin their numbers as much as possible before I summon Atalanta. First Aid!" Naruto healed Asterios once more. "... and Emergency Evade! Asterios to my left, and Gareth to my right! Stay in formation!" Naruto called out to them.

They jumped into position.

"Your instincts were sharp Master, I'm sorry for earlier!"

"It's fine, we need to stay here though. Thinning out our future enemies, and notice how the enemies aren't coming from the water. If we try to escape, we might find ourselves surrounded by all directions. Hold formation until noon!" Naruto called out as he raised his hand up, but nothing happened. "Damnit... the strengthening magic..." Naruto felt his mystic code not activate the spell.

"I've reinforced the cooldowns on your Mystic Code, if you keep abusing it like you are, you're body will break down. You might have tons of mana, but overusing a mystic code has horrible side effects!" Vinci's voice called out to him from his communicator.

Naruto clicked his teeth and nodded.

"Master... I will protect!"

It would seem he was not going to have an easy time with this singularity.
