Disclaimer: I don't own Wizards of Waverly Place; I'm just borrowing the characters for a bit, I'm sure Disney won't mind.

Warning: For those of you unfamiliar with my other works, this story contains femslash. That means romance between two ladies. If that's not your thing, or if it's illegal where you live (total bummer, btw) I suggest you turn back now, I don't want to upset anyone.

"I'm sorry, Harper." Alex gave one of her most beatific smiles. Knowing Harper's forgiveness was practically a given.

"You have to promise me something," Harper said as she put herself into Alex's arms.

Alex pulled back a little to look into Harper's eyes and asked curiously, "What is it?"

Her voice was small as she replied, "Promise me that you'll always be my best friend."

Alex scoffed a little. "Always Harp. Besides, we both know that of the two of us I'm the one most likely to screw this up." She smiled down into her best friend's face, becoming truly concerned when she noticed the tears building in Harper's eyes.

"Not this time," Harper said.

Alex was about to ask what Harper meant when she felt Harper's hands cup both sides of her face and registered the softness of her best friend's lips against her own.

It was only a moment, a breathless moment, where Alex's world was turned on its side.

Then Harper pulled away and gave Alex one of the saddest looks she'd ever seen from her, flashed a fleeting smile, and whispered, "I told you it wouldn't be you messing things up this time." And she was gone.

Alex stood dumbfounded. She could still feel the warmth from Harper's kiss, the slight pressure against her lips. Her hand came up reflexively, but she dared not touch her lips for fear of losing the sensation left behind. She let her hand drop.

"Hey, Alex. Dad was looking for you." Justin came to a stop just beside his sister, his tone smug as he continued, sing-songing "Looks like you're in trouble again. Using magic without permission, huh?" Then he took a close look at Alex's expression and was startled, "Hey, what's up?"

Alex jumped as if only just realizing he was there. Her power of speech hadn't quite returned to her yet but she managed to whisper, "Harper…" She looked up into her brother's eyes, confused and worried, "Harper just kissed me." Then she wandered away in the direction Justin had come from.

Justin stared after her, gob smacked, "But—but I thought she had a crush on me…"

A/N: This may end up getting worked into a longer story, but for now I think it works well as a one-shot. As always, I feed off your reviews, so please do review. Let me know if you think I should turn this into a longer story, or if you thought it sucked and I should remove it immediately (won't happen, but I appreciate any kind of feedback).
