Chapter 24

Kate needed an available space in a year or more so that meant someone might be leaving in a year or more when their lease would be ending. The drawback was that they still had time to request either an extension of their lease or create a whole new one. This meant they had places to choose from that might be available when she was ready but there was no real guarantee.

"I am sorry I cannot be of more help. Each company has up to three months before the end of their lease to inform me what their plans are. When you return I will have a better understanding and can help you. If they do not inform me of their plans and their lease ends, they are evicted. That happens but it has been very rare." TiPhar couldn't help her much.

"There is only one thing that I can do for you. I can add your name to each of these locations so that if they do not renew their lease you are to be contacted. However, the best option is for you to leave a deposit. This will place you at the top of the list.

"If you accept this option we need to decide which locations you are willing to apply a deposit for." TiPhar found something that could help Kate.

"Rick has all our money." Kate knew she had money on Earth but not here.

"Then we choose and wait for Richard to return." TiPhar began showing Kate some of the better locations that might work for her.

"That's him?" TiPhar had taken Kate to see the man she thought she was interested in. "He's handsome, TiPhar. Maybe a little thin for my taste but very handsome." Kate smiled widely. "So you've had dates and you think he has shown interest. Has he kissed you yet?" Kate asked her.

"That has not yet happened." It was why TiPhar just wasn't sure.

"I saw something near that big tree in the residence ring. It talked about a place that sounded like fun. Okay, listen carefully. This is what you're going to do. You're going to show him that you're not all business. You're going to show him that you can be spontaneous and willing to have fun." Kate had a plan.

Rick was back and while he had good news, he also had bad news. He was walking toward their prearranged meeting place and what he saw was really amazing. Kate and TiPhar were literally sitting side by side with their legs crossed and showing lots of skin. He could also tell that he wasn't the only one that had noticed. He trusted Kate and just seeing her dressed like this and obviously getting along with TiPhar very well made him happy.

Then suddenly both of them were laughing and both had wide smiles.

"BABE!" Kate had spotted him. Naturally he didn't look human like she mostly did but she had adjusted to seeing him in his alien form. Kate stood up, hugged him, and gave him a quick kiss.

TiPhar also stood up. "Richard." She was happy for Richard. She might not have won his heart but someone had made him happy.

"TiPhar has been a big help, babe. I need to make a deposit or two. One year from now is just a little too far to guarantee a space." Kate looked at him anxiously.

"We have found two spaces that might be available when you return," TiPhar told him. "A deposit will place Kate at the top of the list if their lease is to end."

Rick would raise an eyebrow at that if he had one. TiPhar had always used full names. He was always Richard and Kate was always Katherine. Suddenly her name was Kate. He wasted no time as he held out a card for TiPhar to scan and she did so.

"TiPhar is coming with us to dinner. Then we're going to go check out something. She finally isn't working. Someone seemingly needs something from her constantly." Kate had walked everywhere with her and had gotten a glimpse of her life while at work.

"I am kept busy most days," TiPhar admitted.

"Then let's go have dinner. If I know Kate she's starving by now." Her nanites needed nearly constant supply of material so they did not take the material they needed from her body.

Their little ship was once again so full of food and supplies that there was almost no space to move around. Even the space upstairs had some of it this time.

Rick had the door open and turned and watched in amazement as Kate and TiPhar were hugging each other, then Kate hurried to join him. He even watched them wave at each other.

"What was that about?" Rick finally had to ask her after Kate had changed into something for more comfortable. At least for her. For Rick he couldn't stop looking at the glimpse of breasts that she was giving him and then she crossed her legs. Kate was clearly teasing him and he wouldn't have it any other way.

Kate grinned. "You mean TiPhar? She has a guy that she's interested in but is afraid that she's too… business oriented, not spontaneous enough. That her life is just too regimented for him. He's handsome even if he isn't my type. She asked me for some help so we spent a few hours before you showed up helping her learn how to be more open."

"TiPhar has a guy?" Rick wasn't sure he believed it.

"Jealous, are we?" Kate teased him, her smile wide.

Rick partly lied through his teeth. "No." He did like TiPhar, he just didn't like her like that. He never really had.

"Right!" Kate didn't believe him. "Anyway I found something that should bring both of them out of their shells. Especially TiPhar. Plus a little coaching and she just might get laid soon." Kate wasn't thinking tonight but she couldn't discount it.

"You're changing TiPhar into you?" Rick questioned her.

That had Kate thinking about it. "Yup."

Rick pulled on her shirt which was actually one of his. She had simply commandeered it for her use. "You're teasing me again." His pull exposed more of one of her breasts.

Kate's grin widened. "Maybe. What are you going to do about it, husband?"

Kate rolled over and sleepily patted the bed but Rick was missing. Still her smile was very wide. Rick had indeed shown her what he could do about her teasing him.

For a moment she questioned just where he'd gotten to when she heard the shower. She would join him if there was any space in that room to even think that. Looking around all she saw was supplies.

"We really need a bigger ship." Downstairs was full. The refrigerator down there was so full that they had to be careful opening it for fear of spilling half the contents onto the floor. Even the little one up here was so full it barely closed. She also had little chance of opening the sofa to reach her clothes. She was going to have to live in Rick's shirts for weeks if not longer.

Kate watched as a naked Rick in human form this time walked out of the bathroom after taking a much needed shower. Yes, last night had been amazing followed by eating a fair amount. However, Kate wasn't satisfied just yet.

Rick stepped out and found Kate awake and on their bed. She had a look on her face that had him questioning what she was thinking. However, that didn't last long.

Kate lifted her legs high and spread them wide. "Eat me, my mate." She had even used his term for her on purpose. Kate watched as he crawled onto their bed and watched as his head landed between her spread legs. She watched right up to the first lick of his tongue. Then she arched her back, stared up at the ceiling, and reveled in the feelings of pleasure he was giving her.

It was two months later and Lucile was announcing that they were exiting FTL just outside of the system. It wasn't that she or Rick didn't know anything about this system since they did. It was a precaution because anyone could be in this system since it had been several years.

"What have we got, Lucile?" Rick questioned her.

"So far just what we expected. The planet is still in the early stages of its combustion age," Lucile told them.

"In English, please," Kate asked her. "And no jokes." Kate didn't know if anyone was really speaking English since no matter what language they used she heard English.

Lucile tried to make it easier for her to understand. "1920s Earth."

"Wow!" Kate understood that part. "I'll stay here while you get the supplies we need. Just don't tell me how you're paying for this." Kate didn't want to hear that he was stealing any of this.

"You're sure?" Rick asked her. "They do look a little humanoid. You might be able to pass for a native."

"I just want to get this over with. Five months to get there and another five months to get back just to get one thing to help me with my business idea." Kate still thought this was a lot of work but she loved him for all this a little more.

"Close your eyes or not and cover year ears," Rick instructed her and watched her place her hands over her ears and saw her eyes go wide when he changed form then eventually vanished in front of her.

"They have…ridges." Kate moved her hand to her forehead and her nose and watched Lucile vanish without saying anything. Kate went upstairs and waited for Rick to come back, leave again, and come back as often as necessary to fill the space with food and anything else they needed.

It took a few hours and Lucile had them back into FTL headed for Sur'Kesh.

"Okay, babe. Show me the locals of Sur'Kesh. I might as well scream now since it's just you." Kate didn't want a repeat of the Zorgons.

Rick changed his form and watched Kate withdraw from him at first and clap a hand over her mouth. Now she was leaning forward and looking him over.

It was tall, a little thin, and had really long arms that reached his knees. It was a mix of blues and grays in color everywhere. Its legs looked weird or more accurately its knees. They looked backwards to her. It only had three fingers and a thumb and they looked a little thicker than hers.

She didn't see breasts or even a cock so she didn't know if it was male or female. Rick was male so she was guessing male. The face was long and narrow and it had a wide thin mouth. In this case it had huge really dark green eyes.

What presently had her attention were the two horns at the top of its head.

"Interesting. Are they dangerous? Is it safe for me down there?" Kate asked him and watched Rick change to being human.

"They do have a military but it's small. Very small in comparison to my client. However, all of their ships are far superior to my client's. Their technology is why we're going here. There's something you might like and yes, I want you to come with me." Rick was sure Kate was going to love this.

"Why?" Kate tilted her head.

"Women rule this planet. They don't serve in the military but they control all political matters. They have noble families that've been in control for generations. Think king and queen and so on." Rick stopped since Kate was grinning rather wide.

"You need me to go with you." Kate was suddenly glad they were coming to this planet.

Rick tried to stop her. "Don't let it go to your head."

"Too late." Kate's smile got wider. "Will this still work since I'm human and don't look anything like them?" She didn't even come close to looking like them.

"When they find out you're female, even an alien female, they'll want to mostly talk just to you. You'll be buying what we're coming here for. You'll be buying us supplies to go back. Basically everything we do here. And I'm going to regret this, aren't I?" Kate was still smiling wide.

"Maybe." Kate chose to tease him and smiled even wider as she listened to him groan. She did give him a quick kiss. Now she couldn't wait to get there.

They were both seriously ready to get off this ship by the time they arrived. Five long months confined in a small space was really getting to them.

Lucile appeared. "We have clearance to land given that we are small."

"I'm going to need a way to pay for all this," Kate reminded him and watched Rick hand over a card that to her looked like a credit card or at least it was in the shape of one, though it did look different.

Kate was dressed in one of her three best dresses she owned along with her new shinguard shoes. She had put on makeup and had even given herself two braids and had attached those two blue lights to the tips.

She was showing some cleavage and a lot of leg. Kate found herself fussing with the suit Rick was wearing since she was nervous. "I hope I'm ready for this." Rick had said she was going to be the one in charge and do all the talking.

"You'll do great. Just pretend to be bossy." Having said that Rick ignored the glare she gave him.

Once outside they came across a local walking toward them. "Remember, bossy," Rick whispered to her.

"I am Kate Beckett and this is my mate. We require space for two nights." Kate held out the card that Rick had given her. They watched him take it, scan it, and hand it back to her.

"Welcome to Sur'Kesh. Clearance to the rest of the planet is through those doors." She pointed to them. "Plants, food, and animals from other planets may not leave your ship for any reason. You will be scanned for weapons. If any are found they will be confiscated and you will be arrested and executed. Deliveries are possible provided they are arranged in advance. That is all." She left them and headed for other duties.

"That was easy." Kate liked it so far and she hadn't even blinked at seeing a real live alien, other than her husband, standing right in front of her.

Going through the doors took them into an area that to Kate felt like going through customs. They walked between two screens first, followed by being asked questions about why they were here, how long they were staying, and were asked to sign something.

Though Kate had a question before they left this person. "If we accept a delivery to our ship but are not done here do we have to go through all this again?" This was taking time and she was already bored.

"Yes. Next." She was done with these two.

"Joy." Kate was speaking rhetorically, naturally.

Getting out of this building meant a long walk. "You've been here before obviously, so where do we go first? We need whatever you think I need and we need lots of food and I still can't believe I haven't gained weight yet." Kate was sure all this eating was forcing her to gain weight and end up heavier than she wanted to be.

"It's actually just a kit. You're making or may be making nanites. This kit will make drones that can be used to make anything you program into them. If we had the space we could buy several and use them to help the contractor build our home. But since we don't have that kind of space we just need the one kit and food and maybe do some sightseeing before we leave," Rick told her very softly since as a male he had very little standing on this planet.

Granted he could make himself look female and had done just that on his last trip here. He even had a female name he could use but it was fun watching Kate trying to be in charge.

Once outside finally Kate got a really good look at the skyline or what she could see of it. It wasn't what she was expecting. "You need to point or something. I have no idea where we are." Kate was lost already.

"There's a central core with spokes going out all around it. Part way out is a ring that goes all the way around. More spokes followed by yet another ring and more spokes. Last time I was here they were starting work on yet another ring," he told her.

"In-between each ring is mostly parks and other community spaces. Far outside the city is all farm land and where they raise animals for slaughter. We're presently located far outside the furthest ring at the space dock.

"We need transportation to reach even the closest ring. Once we reach that area we can go anywhere we want. They do have private transportation much like Earth, however, we'll be using public transportation to get to where we want to go."

"I suppose these people have flying cars?" Kate was mostly joking.

"They do but those are restricted to law enforcement only or public transportation to another city." Rick told her.

"I'm almost sorry I asked. So which way do we go?" Kate was thinking of buying this kit first.

"RICHARD!" That voice had both of them turning to look.

What Kate saw was two people that looked pretty much exactly like Rick did since he was presently in his natural form. Save for the real clothes that he was wearing. These two, though, didn't appear to be wearing clothes. Meaning they were both stark naked.

"Mother! Father!" Rick was shocked. Last he knew they weren't anywhere near here.

"Mother? Father?" Kate was even more shocked as she watched these two walk right to them. OH, GOD! She was about to meet his parents! She knew he had parents, unlike her, but he'd told her they weren't even close to them.

"Richard!" Martha hugged him tightly and even quickly kissed his cheek. She looked him over. "You look well, Richard." Martha looked at Kate. "And who is this creature?"

Kate raised an eyebrow at that. Now she was a creature?

"Mother, Father, this is Kate. She's my mate." Rick saw the look his mother was giving him. "Katherine Houghton Beckett." He had not introduced her correctly for his mother.

"You found a mate!" Martha was all smiles and hugged Kate quickly. "So what race are you, child?" She didn't look familiar. The clothes certainly did but something was off about her.

Rick cleared his throat. "She is human, Mother."

"Does she not speak, Richard? Remember where we are." Unless the male was doing his job or part of the military he had very little standing in this society.

"I can talk. Rick gave me a translator," Kate announced.

"Excellent! You must come up to our ship for dinner later. I want to know everything. Human, you say. I can't say I have heard of that race before. I thought you were dating someone named TiPhar or something." She was the last person she knew anything about.

Kate took a soft elbow to her ribs. "TiPhar is a friend. Rick married me. I won his heart like he won mine." Kate wasn't used to doing all the talking.

"I am so glad we ran into both of you. We're expecting you for dinner later. Do not force me to come looking for you," Martha reminded both of them. "Your father and I have shopping to do. Now we have to find something to celebrate. My son has a mate.

"Tell me, Richard, are you still running around in that tiny little thing with Lucile for company? I'm sorry, I should be talking to Katherine." Even Martha had forgotten just what planet she was on.

"Yes, once we purchase enough food to get back with another stop along the way it leaves us with little space," Kate told her and while she could read Rick now, she was having trouble reading Martha and his dad hadn't said a word yet.

"Good to know. Come along, Jackson, we have work to do." Martha took hold of his arm and they walked away.

"Those were your parents? I met your parents." Kate laid her hand over her heart, willing it to slow down at least a little. She had met his parents and was just about ready to faint.

"That was my mother and father." He could only imagine what dinner tonight was going to be like. "Why didn't Lucile mention that their ship was in orbit?" He could have had at least some warning from her.
