For once nothing insane was going on in Brockton Bay; the Empire was busily rebranding, the ABB was eying said Empire incredulously waiting for the penny to drop, Marquis was proceeding on business as usual since he knew how not to step on toes and to honor past agreements, and thus the Docks were quiet. Sophia...didn't really know how to handle that if she were to be completely honest, gang warfare being a sort of inevitable and unescapable facet to life in the Bay for as long as she could remember and all.
Sitting with her...friends? Girlfriends? Shit she didn't even know at this point what her status with Taylor and Emma was, whatever, sitting on the Heberts couch watching Earth Aleph's 'Dark Knight' she couldn't help commenting on the scene after swallowing her handful of popcorn, "He isn't wrong you know."
Taylor and Emma glanced at her, both raising a brow in their usual creepy unison movement as they both "Hmm?" at the same time.
Sophia took in a breath, then continued on with, "What doesn't kill you, simply makes you... stranger. I mean really isn't that just the definition of surviving in the Bay?"
Emma lolled her head back and forth a few times before eventually nodding, "We've got the East Coast's largest Werewolf pack, North America's most powerful active Necromancer whose dad is descended from Tyr, random Vampire and Zombie infestations, along with Parahuman shenanigans..."
Taylor shrugged, "It's Brockton Bay, you sink or you swim, that's all there is to it. Pretending things aren't insane isn't going to well...fix anything, and besides, being strange, so what?"
Sophia cut her off there, "Normal people are boring."
Emma pointed at her with one perfectly manicured finger while stating, "Exactly," earning a giggle from Taylor.
They kept watching, then the Joker said something that had Taylor shaking in her seat, "If you're good at something, why do it for free?"
"YES! Hell the fuck yes! Exactly! Sure I could wipe out all crime in the city with a wave of bone golems, ghouls and zombies, but why would I?! I mean really the hell do I get out of it other than being labeled the next Nilbog by the idiots in charge? Bastards that use my arts for their own benefit while being fully willing to throw us under the bus if our methods, at their request mind you, are a bit on the squicky side... Freaking hypocrites..."
Emma shot a glance to Sophia, who with a brief look was sharing her obvious trepidation before speaking up, "Sweetie...you're kind of associating with the psychotic clown wannabe a bit too much...you ok?"
Taylor's brows furrowed as she shook her head slowly, "Why shouldn't I? I mean, really is he wrong?" Taylor was quiet for a time, watching the movie while scrunching her brows and looking just generally...well...confused.
"I have all of the knowledge of the Sidhe courts, I am more than a little tired of how the world at large is falling apart, and I'm basically forcing myself to be leashed so I don't strike out at those that don't deserve it...I just...Huh...this is a lot to think on..."
Sophia thought that for a moment, thankfully, that was the end of it, then of course the Joker had to continue to speak in a manner that gained Taylors full attention.
"To them, you're just a freak, like me! They need you right now, but when they don't, they'll cast you out, like a leper! You see, their morals, their code, it's a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be. I'll show you. When the chips are down, these... these civilized people, they'll eat each other. See, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve."
Taylor stared at the TV for a time then nodded, "Huh...so that's what mom meant...neat..."
Both Sophia and Emma tensed when Taylor lifted then kicked her legs landing on her feet as she rubbed her chin in contemplation, "Yeah...I just need a few more parts and I can make something that'll force people to be civil to each other, and if they don't behave they'll get what they fucking deserve... Hmm... Gonna need some spinal columns and-"
Emma rushed forward at that moment as Sophia's mind locked up, grabbing Taylor's hand while quickly shooting out, "Hey that ice cream place on the Boardwalk just got a new shipment of mint chocolate chip, how about we go and get you a cone and then we can do a bit of shopping?"
Taylor blinked, then glanced at the redhead while tilting her head to the side, "You sure, it's kind of getting late and all."
Sophia, to her credit, jumped up and grabbed Taylor's other hand while nodding quickly, "Sure, it isn't a treat if it isn't a bit of an inconvenience right?"
Taylor blinked, cocked her head to the side, then muttered, "I guess? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense honestly but if you're sure..." then she was quickly dragged out of the house as her friends exchanged a knowing glance.
Crisis averted...for now.
