A Princess to A Queen

The group of guests with their mage guides continued to traverse the FEF base with an interested eye at the various magical objects that were visible. Some were used to provide sightlines for where the blue beam of lights was heading while others helped instructors point the vital areas of an opponent and weak points in armor. Bozes and Pina cringed as the recovered armor they were using for the demonstration showed numerous weak points across the armor and that also included the full plate they'd wear into battle. The JSDF on the other hand was fascinated at the automation of their devices without the need for gasoline. Out of it all, however, everyone was amazed to see so many demi-humans walking about the base with a few wearing identifying sashes on their shoulders.

"Mr. Fullbuster, are these demi-humans from your world?" Shirayuri asked as she had noticed a number of them were familiar species who've been making their way to Alnus.

"No, a number of them are from the Special Region. There are a few exceptions amongst our ranks, but many of these demi-humans came from the surrounding area looking for opportunities," Gray answered as it was the best of his knowledge concerning the demi-human volunteers.

"Does your organization employ these demi-humans openly, filling any military roles perchance?" Sugawara questioned as he had heard his superiors trying to incorporate the use of demi-humans in the future.

"Many of them had come to offer mercenary work, but we turned them down since we had no openings made to hire sellswords. We did hire them to be mentors and a form of cartographers if they'd be so willing," Erza answered this time as she remembered the pack of Volralden who wanted to offer their services, though limited in number, in anything they needed to be done.

"As for those with no combat experience, we took them on as in-base messengers, field hands, and even merchants for those few things we required of the Special Region," Gray added as a team of dwarves waved towards them, lugging a cart of scrap metal to a forge they built outside of the base.

"Interesting and does the Supreme Commander accept the influx of these people into your base?" Sugawara had truly been fascinated at how fast the FEF had advanced relations with the demi-species by comparison to themselves.

"We had the foresight of this occurring when our good friend, Lucy, managed to place lenient tax breaks on goods from the Artisian Valley. Of course, we had asked all newcomers that they reside on the outer reaches of the base for security reasons," Erza said as she could remember how haggard the blonde was when she had to construct a whole new merchant system when the first ones had arrived at the base.

"If you had noticed on our flight over the western wall, we've already started construction of a town about a few miles away and with enough room for expansion," Gray said as he can recall how many a mage had been tasked with helping create an irrigation system for the township being built.

"I'm quite interested in how you wish to continue the endeavor of starting a town here in the Artisian Valley," Shirayuri said as this could help point them in the right direction with the town forming at Alnus.

"That's something you'll have to discuss with Representative Greybourne, she's had a hand in its creation and planning," Erza said as she was surprised with the glasses-wearing woman's initiative in the development.

"I know you'll get your chance, as for you Pina, there are two people who've been eager to see you." Gray pointed towards the two Imperial knights waiting patiently at the entranceway of a building, their eyes lighting up with happiness.

"It's great to see you again, Your Highness," Hamilton said as she walked up to Pina, Panache bowing her head next to her.

"Likewise Hamilton, I see that the FEF has treated you both well in my absence," Pina replied as the group carried on, allowing for the Imperials to reunite on their own.

"They're a hospitable group, though I do have my worries about the current situation here, Your Highness." Panache said in a lowered tone as she eyed the space around them.

"What's troubling you, Panache? Do you think that this is all some sort of ploy?" Bozes asked as even she has had an indescribable feeling since they landed, aside from discovering the news regarding Sir Gray and Natsu.

"Nothing like that, it actually involves the demi-humans who've decided to make the region around the Valley their home," Panache said as she watched a group of Cat People following after one who was dressed in the FEF's garb. "There's been talk floating about amongst the various species."

"What kind of talk?" Pina was wary of this as it could mean a variety of things, not limited to revealing their treatment under the Empire.

"I've overheard them speak about ways they could convince the FEF into allowing them to cross the Gate into their world," Hamilton said as she couldn't believe that they were already thinking of this without having any idea of what could await for them on the other side.

"A couple of ideas claiming to seek sanctuary or even asylum have drifted amongst the groups, which are plausible given the current war efforts the Empire is undergoing," Panache added since she had been on the trail of these conversations when they had time to themselves.

"Would they be convinced by their words about seeking asylum?" Pina was truly unsure how far the FEF's friendliness extended to, but if they could befriend Giants and have their own demi-humans then there was a possibility.

"Some of the fiercer looking demi-humans already had an understanding that they wouldn't be so easily welcomed, but many of them have tried their hardest to show that they are just as agreeable as the Cat People," Hamilton said as it was quite the sight to see a Pantherion become friendly with a few FEF soldiers and enjoy a drink together.

"For now, we shall board their carriages and be on our way to their world," Pina said as there was so much happening around her, now realizing that Zorzal would be all for the idea of sending the demi-humans across the Gate.

"I should inform you of another development that might be in the motions, an idea from the War Maiden herself," Hamilton said as this notion was a concerning one if it came to pass.

"What is it?"

"The War Maiden had suggested to locate and free Queen Tyuule from slavery after two Volralden notified her about our war with the Warrior Bunnies." The chestnut-haired knight dreaded the idea of the War Maiden discovering the location of the Warrior Bunny and the fearful look her princess wore showed she shared the same feeling.

"Why would she choose her over anyone else!?" Pina couldn't even bring herself to imagine what the War Maiden would do once she saw how Tyuule's been treated.

"She believed that this could be the first step in the Empire's road in abolishing slavery in the Empire." Panache replied and Pina groaned into her hands as this meant that she needed to convince Zorzal to part ways with his favorite sex slave.

"One problem at a time!" Pina exclaimed as she began to march towards the building the others had entered. "First, we make our case before Queen Hisui and then we secure the Empire's fate."

As the group of four entered, they were met with a large room filled with soldiers standing guard and the last of Itami's squad being reviewed within some sort of magical barrier. Runes had been etched where he stood and above him on the ceiling as a ring of light passed around him before disappearing into the barrier. The barrier hummed for a brief moment before it too disappeared and the soldier was given the go-ahead to move forward and join the rest of the JSDF. An officer turned to look at the newcomers and signaled for them to step forward, stopping the girls after Pina before instructing the princess to stand in the encircled spot.

As soon as she stood in the marked location, the runes beneath her glowed a bright blue before a barrier enveloped her. She nervously looked around her at the sudden feeling of magic began to sway around her, which had also surprised her since she never "felt" magic before. The same officer gestured for her to relax and the princess did her best to ease her agitated body as the same ring of light began to descend around her. It felt like it was gently caressing her as it passed along her body before returning to the ceiling. The familiar hum it gave off before began to echo around her until the barrier disappeared and she was allowed to move forward.

With as much grace as she could muster, Pina made her way over towards Itami and watched as the rest of her knights go through the barrier one at a time. The one who seemed the most worried was Panache as the blue barrier turned orange as the ring passed along her body and two soldiers flanked her. The officer monitoring them stepped up between the two and placed his hand before the barrier as a teal glow enveloped it. He kept it there for a few moments before giving a short nod and writing down something on a small board with parchment on it. He shared a few words with a woman that had come up to him and she briefly went away, returning with a metallic tray in her hands.

The barrier dropped as she stood next to him, the officer taking two small cups and then handing them to Panache. He seemed to have instructed her into doing something by the looks of it and looked towards Pina for further guidance. The princess had no idea what they were asking of the white-haired knight, but trusted their judgment and motioned for her to proceed. Panache took one more glance at the cups before drinking one after the other, a look of disgust appearing on her face as the barrier reappeared. The group watched the process happen again, but this time the ring turned green and Panache was allowed to move forward once it was completed.

"What was it that they had you consume?" Pina asked Panache as the white-haired knight felt like spitting out the awful taste in her mouth.

"The man said it was a medicine, saying that I was on the verge of a fever and needed it before I got sick." Panache replied and couldn't believe how disgusting the FEF's medicine tasted although she was glad the bitter taste was starting to fade away.

"Amazing, they have magic capable of predicting if someone's about to fall ill before they show symptoms," Pina said as she wasn't aware of any mage being able to do that before, least to her knowledge anyway.

"If you would all follow me, I'll show you the standard procedure of traversing the Gate." Came a new voice as the group turned to see one of the Cat People dressed in the FEF's uniform, a dark cape draped over her shoulders as she walked them towards a carriage stable of sorts.

"All personal items will be stored in the cargo holds within each Rhino, personal defense weapons will be inspected and returned accordingly to their proper owners and make sure to follow the instructions of the driver and Control Room if an emergency occurs." She said as Itami's squad handed over all their weapons to various soldiers the Cat Girl was in charge of, Kuribayashi surrendering her pistol hesitantly.

"I'm Takeo Kurata, twenty-one years of age, single! A pleasure to meet you!" The young Japanese man exclaimed nervously to the Cat Girl who gave him a short, cute giggle in reply.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Millianna and hopefully you meet the love of your life." The Cat Girl said as she made cat paw gestures with her hands at the sides of her head with a small head tilt.

"Thank you very much!" Kurata said as he bowed deeply to her and Itami facepalmed at the young soldier.

"She just shot you down, you do know that, right?" Kuribayashi asked as Kurata rose back up with a determined look on his face.

"I know, but she gave me her hope that I meet someone meant for me!" Pina was unsure how rejection worked for the Japanese but gave the young man credit for seeing the positive in the end.

"So, Milliana, what made you decide to leave the Empire and join the ranks of the FEF?" Sugawara asked the brown-haired Cat Girl who looked confusedly at him.

"Oh no, I'm not from the Special Region. I was born and raised in Fiore and volunteered to join when I heard Erzipoo and the top of Fairy Tail joined up." Millianna replied as the last of the JSDF gear and those of the Rose Order's had been loaded aboard the Rhino.

"I see, so you followed in the steps of this 'Fairy Tail' then?" Sugawara asked for the sake of clarity as the Cat Girl nodded her head while instructing the soldiers to finish up their checks.

"In a way, lots of the mages here all followed Fairy Tail's lead when they heard they were going on this operation. With them around, who needs to worry." She said as the first Rhino began to make its way over to them, surprising the group by revealing their driver to be Gray. "Speaking of which, your driver for this trip is one of its members."

"They're all cleared Millianna, you can let them on board," Gray said as the Cat Girl gave him a cute salute before a soldier opened the passenger door for the Japanese to enter.

"Have a safe trip and please enjoy the city of Crocus!" Millianna called out as she began to walk away from the boarding zone, her squad of soldiers not far behind her as everyone finally boarded.

"Well then, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride," Gray said as he revved the Rhino's engine, looking up to a room filled with a handful of people before one man gave him a thumb's up.

Pina had decided to sit with Gray in the seat next to him with Sugawara and Shirayuri in the seats behind them, their retainers sitting in the larger seating hold in the back. A complaint coming through that it was a bit of a tight squeeze on one side but was otherwise comfortable as they rode along the darkened Gate. Unfortunately for Pina, there wasn't much room left in the leading Rhino for her knights to ride with her so they were made to sit in the one behind them. In any case, the red-haired princess did her best to relax before her big conference with the Queen and simply focused on the darkened road ahead.

"Mr. Fullbuster, I'm curious as to how your vehicles function. I've noticed none of them produce carbon monoxide, let alone have a way to exhaust it." Shirayuri asked as she took in the interior of the Rhino, from the material of the seats to the heavy plating it obviously had.

"These models are powered by lacrima batteries, cleanest form of fuel around. Unlike traditional magic mobiles that required an SE plug to use, these run on their own power source that simply requires a recharge." Gray replied and Pina had no idea what a "lacrima" was or an "SE plug" for that matter.

"I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with a few of those terms, could I trouble you in explaining them?" Shirayuri asked and Pina noticed Sugawara nod his head gently from the rear-view mirror after her question.

"Lacrima's are like magic containment devices that could be used for several things. They're also built into homes to provide conveniences for day-to-day life; water, power, and even air conditioning." Gray explained and the first person to be extremely intrigued by this was Lelei as she tried to get closer to hear. "SE Plugs, aka Self-Energy Plugs, were the primary tools used to power magicycles and magic mobiles by using the user's own magic supply, hence the name."

"These SE Plugs must have meant that only mages could use those vehicles, correct?" Sugawara asked and Pina was starting to see what they were doing, though Gray seemed far more aloof than usual and she wondered if he'd caught on as well.

"Pretty much, even though a tenth of Fiore's population can wield magic, most magic wielders think it's a bit of a waste. It used up a mage's magical abilities and if they wanted to make the vehicle move faster, then they'd have to use more magic to do so."

"Thus, leading the individual into a state of fatigue after expending so much magic," Lelei concluded as Pina noticed Gray having a satisfied smile on his face after her answer.

"Right you are, Lelei. That's why lacrima powered models became such a hit with people back home since it meant that they could ride without the need to worry about wasting their magic or needing any for that matter." Gray said as it was true that so many people saved up a decent amount of Jewel to get their hands on one when Alvarez began to ship them overseas.

"So, are we going to experience Fiorean traffic while we're there?" Kuribayashi asked from the back as Gray chuckled in response.

"Don't worry about that, those things are still pretty expensive to get since it'll set you back thousands of Jewel," Gray said as Pina couldn't believe that people paid in jewels in Fiore, which started to make sense to her since they could afford to have all these mages in the military that weren't volunteers.

"How goes the recovery after the Empire assaulted the city?" Itami asked without a second thought to the conversation which an audible grunt soon followed his question after Pina had lowered her head.

"Crocus has recovered, most of the buildings have been rebuilt and the new memorial ground is in place of where there was extensive damage. The first group that came back saw a major difference when they returned and learned that there was a time displacement between our worlds when they came back," Gray said, much to the interest of everyone within the Rhino.

"So, that means what exactly?" Itami asked with as much confidence as he could muster.

"Well, the time difference was just a few minutes during the first few weeks of our crossing the Gate, now we've clocked it at about three days," Gray replied and Pina was rather surprised to hear that as it meant they could get six days in with only two passing in her homeland. "Basically, for every day that passes in the Special Region, three days go by in Fiore."

"Well Mrs. Shirayuri, I guess there's no need to worry about making the event with the senators after all," Sugawara said as he chuckled nervously, having learned that he may spend nearly a week in Fiore if they go by the two-day visit plan Hazama wanted them to try.

"That's why we have Millianna in charge of those procedures within the Gate since one group goes on leave and returns the next fully rested. Helps keep morale up, but it was jarring in the beginning."

"Can't wait to experience that," Tuka said as she thought it would be fun to talk to some of those demi-humans and say she went across for three days while only being gone for one.

Simple conversations carried on through the drive as everyone filled the otherwise quiet Gate with their voices. Pina made idle chatter with Gray, primarily about his experiences in her homeland and his opinion of the citizens. She was surprised to know that he was amazed at how resilient the people are and couldn't believe that the very first battle he fought in her world was against the Flame Dragon.

He in turn was surprised to discover that her first real taste of battle was against the soldiers of the Allied Nations turned marauders who had attacked Italica. Pina had also admitted that her mistakes during that battle cost her many lives and a close friend, Gray empathizing that he too had such mistakes in his past. She watched as the mage had a similar look in his eye as her former mentor did when he reminisced on his younger years and all the men he served with now buried beneath the ground. It was strange to see someone so young mimic the look of one who's lived a lifetime and then some.

Behind them, most everyone was quite eager to finally get out of the Rhino as the squeeze some riders felt was starting to grate on them. Luckily for them, a bright light shone ahead of them and many were glad to see daylight again as Gray made the Rhino pick up speed. As they drew closer, the ice mage slowed down and allowed them to coast at a moderate speed before stopping just short of the exit of the Gate. A squad of soldiers appeared around the Rhino with a finely armored woman making her way towards the driver's seat, a pleased expression on her face at seeing Gray.

"Looks like you all recovered nicely, Captain Aster. Just escorting our guests to meet the Queen." Gray said towards the woman who gave a short nod as the soldiers began to inspect the Rhino and its cargo.

"All thanks to you, Fairy Tail. Just wished you were around when Tatsumi was chewing me out when we were called in after the rescue." The captain joked as the Japanese grew a bit concerned when a soldier pulled out one of their rifles, though they were glad he was aware of keeping his fingers away from the trigger. "Just a few more checks and you'll be cleared."

"We're not in a rush, go ahead," Gray said as they did one last sweep of the entire Rhino with a blue light passing on top of them from end to end before shutting off.

"Looks like you're all clear. Welcome home." Captain Aster said as she waved off into the distance and a distant hum echoed into the Gate before Gray began to pull away from the soldiers.

It wasn't long before the Rhino cleared the Gate and the first thing that the newcomers saw was a vast number of soldiers in the surrounding area. Buildings of completely different architecture lined the many streets in the eyes of those from the Special Region while those from Japan saw a heavy influence of Western fantasy design. Though the most impressive thing of all was the towering castle that was no doubt situated at the heart of this city, visible even from their current location as it rose higher than any other building around them. Pina had taken notice of a directory path set up for their Rhino as Gray drove along a predetermined path with soldiers guarding various checkpoints along the way. It didn't take long for her or anyone else for that matter to realize that it was taking them straight to the castle.

The redhead's hands grew clammy as they drew closer to where the very woman who controlled this country resided. One who wields far more power and respect than even her father, who she believed couldn't be rivaled by any other living person. Sadly, no one else could share her sentiment as the girls were awe-stricken with the radical difference between their homeland and even Japan. While the Japanese were busy taking in the sight of Fiore's capital, from what they could see from the ground anyways.

"I'm not sure if you can see it, but out over towards your right you might catch a glimpse of the Grand Magic Games arena," Gray said as he tried to eye through some of the buildings, looking for the towering statues that presented the arena.

"What are the Grand Magic Games?" Tuka asked and Lelei was very curious to know as well, though some of the group already had a vague understanding of what it was.

"Basically a tournament all the legal guilds within Fiore can participate in to see which guild will be considered Fiore's number one guild," Gray explained, and many were satisfied that their guess was very close to it. "Many mages compete against one another under their guild's banner in many battles to prove their strength and that of their guild's."

"Does that mean there are illegal guilds, too? Since you just said legal guilds can participate." Sugawara asked as he had caught on to a part of the mage's explanation that stood out.

"Yes, those range from either independent guilds who have not requested acknowledgment from the Magic Council to dark guilds who obviously partake in illegal activities," Gray replied as the Rhino made a wide turn on its path, causing those in the back to slide slightly. "Rune Knights or even some legal guilds tend to deal with dark guilds for the safety of everyone in Fiore."

"And you've dealt with some yourself, right?" Itami asked as Gray nodded his head promptly, slowing down the Rhino as the castle entrance was in sight.

"Fairy Tail's fought its fair share of crazy dark guilds in the past, but we've always come out on top," Gray replied as he brought the Rhino to a complete stop, turning around in his seat to look at the group of visitors.

"So this is it then?" Kuribayashi said as she looked at the ice mage questioningly.

"It sure is and a word of caution, don't do any sudden movements in her presence. She's got an elite guard known as the "White Tigers" guarding her at all times and another elite group known as her "Left Hand" on standby."

"Seriously? What kind of names are those?" Kuribayashi questioned as Gray simply shrugged his shoulders.

"Not completely sure about the White Tigers, but I do know about her Left Hand and that's a group you don't want to mess with," Gray said cryptically as he hopped off the Rhino and opened the door behind him to help Shirayuri down.

A finely armored knight who wore glasses had come up to Pina's side and opened the door, offering his hand to help her down. She nervously took it and was amazed to see the towering castle before her. Far bigger than the palace back in the Empire and much grander to boot, with a design so intricate and beautiful that the halls of the palace could never dream to compare. Pina turned to see the others disembark the Rhino as the JSDF soldiers were all presented with their weapons by another set of knights before falling back in line.

It was a precession of knights from a distinctive band as they flanked a walkway towards the grand doorway leading into the castle where another knight with a shining set of armor stood waiting for them. Gray had been the only one to recognize the Knight Captains and their platoons that were greeting them with Arcadios being the last person to greet them at the top. The entire group had decided to stick close to one another as they made their way up the stairs, Kurokawa pointing out that the glasses-wearing knight had two pistols at his hip as they passed him by again. As they drew nearer, the final knight gave a courteous bow towards them before standing upright once again and many were surprised by his intimidating form.

"Welcome guests of the Special Region and Japan, I am Arcadios. Her Highness' Head Knight, please follow me." The large man said as he turned on his heel and entered through the now opened double doors leading into the castle.

"That's an interesting chin he has, very prominent," Rory commented lowly to the girls as Gray gave a short snort ahead of them, confusing the group.

Pina on the other hand was curious as to how the Head Knight was able to speak in their language since she was well aware of the fact that they spoke in a different tongue. As the group walked through the grand halls of the castle, looking at the various pieces of décor that were placed around and the many butlers and maids, did a few of them begin to feel small by comparison. The scale of the castle alone was daunting, but as they walked through the halls did some of them feel consumed by the overall size. In a strange sense, they felt it crushing to be in a place like this as even Pina was struggling to move along since the palace itself couldn't even begin to compete with this castle's architecture. A side comment was passed around about the number of rooms the castle could have, which led to the follow-up of why they needed so many rooms.

They went through a few more hallways before Arcadios turned around to face them, giving a polite bow as he signaled for them to wait. The group watched as he entered through a pair of ornate doors with large Fiorean symbols etched into them without another word, leaving them alone in the hallway. Many of the group turned to look at Gray for any last-minute advice and he himself took a moment to come up with anything.

"Sorry, there's nothing much else I can tell you about Queen Hisui that you don't already know. Just be sure not to act hostile, the last thing you want to face is her Elite Guard." Gray said before the doors opened to reveal a pair of maids who bowed respectfully, signaling for the group to enter.

As they filed into this large room that almost seemed to shimmer from how clean it was, many were in awe of the large chandelier that hung at the center of the room. Opposite of the entrance was a high rise that overlooked the large room where two more large ornate doors were located, Arcadios standing at attention next to an empty throne. The group of other-worlders quickly noticed that they weren't alone since there was a multitude of tables parallel to each other at each side of the room. Older men and women seated at them as the group itself was in the center, many understanding that before them would be the Queen, and currently at their sides were her Senate which left the only way out was the same way they entered.

"Hailing from the other worlds, living on the island country of Japan are the foreign liaisons; Koji Sugawara and Reiko Shirayuri," Arcadios presented loudly as both Japanese dignitaries bowed. "And from the Special Region; Third Princess Pina Co Lada and loyal Rose-Order of Knights."

Pina gave her best royal bow noticing the various sour faces of the Fiorean Senate and did her utmost not to let it get to her. Many of them eyed her with disdain while others stared with a critical eye, the redhead knowing that this was the welcoming she was bound to get. Her knights quickly followed her lead to show their respect, but even Pina knew that this was practically the lion's den to them.

"Now rise for Her Highness, Queen Hisui Fiore!" Arcadios exclaimed as the group of visitors watched the entire room get to their feet.

They looked upwards at the high rise where Arcadios bowed onto one knee as the double doors opened. The sound of heels clicking against the marble floor echoed within the chamber and Pina was amazed at how silent the room became to hear that. She couldn't believe that Queen Hisui commanded such respect that no one dared to speak, something that a couple of senators didn't mind doing if the Emperor arrived back home. While Pina thought to herself, Itami had actually begun to fidget a little with how silent everyone was and at how close those heels were getting. He eyed his team to see how they were doing and had hoped that Rory wouldn't be too complicated like she was at the Diet. Even though he was thankful that she stood up for him and his squad when the discussion turned to the dragon attacked.

Before long, the clacking stopped, and standing at the very edge of the high rise was a young woman dressed in battle armor with a light green cape draped over her shoulders. She stood with purpose and poise, she held an elegance befitting a queen with a kind smile on her face. Her appearance alone was stunning and deceiving as her youthful face came as a surprise to many and how comfortable she was wearing battle armor to others. Amongst the JSDF, Sugawara and Shirayuri had been expecting a matured woman with years of experience given to how well regarded most if not all of the FEF held her in.

Pina and her Rose Order on the other hand were completely shocked that Queen Hisui could be mistaken for a princess at how young she was. When it came to power at a young age, they thought of Countess Myui in charge of Italica at a tender age, but she still required someone to look after her until she came of age to rule. Queen Hisui on the other hand had an entire kingdom to rule and her rule was well respected if their ally signed a treaty under her command.

"I would like to thank you for coming across worlds to meet me, JSDF," Queen Hisui began as she had taken notice of the minor surprise some of her visitors tried to hide. "And though deliberate actions had been taken against my kingdom, I am glad that we can put it to rest with your arrival, Princess Pina."

"I am humbled to meet you in person, Queen Hisui. Many of the FEF has spoken highly of you before my visit and I wish to apologize beforehand for what had occurred." Pina said as she gave a short bow this time, quite surprised that even Queen Hisui can speak their language.

"We will get to such a topic in due time, but for the meantime, there are words we must share, is there not, Mr. Sugawara and Mrs. Shirayuri." Queen Hisui said as the Japanese officials stepped forward, Arcadios narrowing his eyes as their JSDF retainers began to move closer.

"It's alright Arcadios, those soldiers are just doing their job. Just as you are." Itami was nervous at first when he noticed the ire of the interestingly chinned man, but slowly eased himself as the Queen motioned for them forward alongside their foreign representatives.

"The Ministry sends its warmest regards, Your Grace, and are appreciative of the information your people have supplied us with." Sugawara began as a few conversations amongst the senators sprang up around him. "Though I must admit that we await a clearer reason as to why you readily accepted a non-aggression pact between our forces."

"A simple answer; just like you, we wanted to avoid fighting on two fronts. Why should we bear arms against another world when our troubles emanate from a common enemy?" Much to Shirayuri's surprise, Queen Hisui's answer was so straightforward that they believed it couldn't be a possibility.

"I understand and do please forgive the apprehension, we are rather cautious with whom we ally with. Especially when they come from a world over." Sugawara replied as Queen Hisui gave a short nod before a senator stood up from one of the various tables.

"I am Representative Saul Bauru and I wish to ask you, JSDF, why have you crossed the Gate from your world?" Sugawara turned to look at the elder gentleman before Shirayuri tapped his arm and allowed her to take over.

"Like you, Mr. Bauru, our world had also been attacked by the Empire. We crossed in the hope that we can find recompense for their actions and explore a brand new world." Shirayuri replied as the senator scratched his chin thoughtfully before taking his seat.

"We've heard reports that your world is void of magic, do you not fear the likelihood that your Gate shall seal itself when its magical supply has been expended?" Another senator asked as he stood up, but hadn't offered his name.

"The FEF High Command has notified us of the actual threat that it poses and rest assured that we have heightened the priority of this possible occurrence," Sugawara answered as the senator took his seat and the Japanese man was glad that they were asking fairly easy questions.

"Many here have questions for you, but they all stem from the need to understand your motivation and knowledge. One has already been answered and the other is simply because they are rather intrigued at how far you've advanced as a civilization without magic." Queen Hisui spoke up as those few senators that were prepared to stand planted themselves into their seats.

"Likewise, Your Grace, our superiors are as equally curious to understand the near-perfect blend of what is considered fantasy in my world with what is akin to modernism," Shirayuri said as she thought back to their drive to the castle and could've sworn that she saw someone with a cellphone.

"Such advancements are thanks to the keen minds all over Earth Land, some of which originate from our ally; the Alvarez Empire which I believe some of you are familiar with its ambassador." Queen Hisui said as she pointed over towards an overhang where Brandish was seated with Dimaria standing behind her.

"With such a force and ally at your disposal, especially ones capable of toppling the Empire overnight, many individuals would be impressed that one so young can command it all," Rory spoke up from behind the Japanese and Itami had a shot of fear travel up his spine as Shirayuri narrowed her eyes at him.

"Ah yes, our other impromptu guests. I had been meaning to acknowledge you all before my council and Senate after the JSDF, but this proves a good enough time as any." Queen Hisui said as Arcadios handed her a document covering the notable information gathered about the girls. "If you'd like, members of the JSDF, you may return to where you originally stood."

Sugawara and Shirayuri bowed respectfully towards the Queen as Itami and his squad soon mimicked, the lieutenant feeling uneasy after another look Shirayuri sent him. He glanced at Sugawara for any assurances, but the diplomat subtly shook his head at him before they returned to the main group. As they came over, the girls looked at Itami of what they should do next but when he shrugged his shoulders they then turned over to Gray. The ice mage merely tilting his head towards the Queen as a sign for them to step forward before the monarch.

"Standing before Her Highness; demi-goddess and an Apostle of Emroy, Rory Mercury," Arcadios announced as the gothic lolita curtsied with her free hand and her massive halberd behind her back.

Conversations once again sprang up at the appearance of a demi-goddess as many couldn't believe they got to see one in person. With some wondering why she looked no older than a girl barely breaking into her teens, but the raven-haired girl decided to ignore them for the most part. In easy enough matter as Tuka made her way next to Rory and the senators were intrigued by the sight of the elf, many making the claim to have not seen one in years. That came very much to the elf's surprise as it meant that her people existed in Earth Land as well, just like the demi-humans if Milliana was anything to go by.

"Next to her is the High Elf from the Forest Village of Kowan; Tuka Luna Marceau." The blonde gave a polite bow given her attire and felt a sense of welcome from the Queen by her smile, one she kept on even when Rory was presented.

"Finally, at Ms. Marceau's side is the young wizard from Coda Village; Lelei La Lelena," Arcadios announced as the blue-haired girl curtsied although she was confused to have been called a wizard over a mage, but didn't let her curiosity betray her otherwise neutral expression.

"Welcome to Fiore, I must say that it is truly an experience to meet both an elf and a demi-goddess in such a fashion." Queen Hisui said as the girls smiled at her words. "And hopefully this will be an experience to further expand your knowledge of existing magic, young wizard."

Lelei had been taken aback slightly at how accurate the Queen was in knowing what the blue-haired girl truly wanted to see on her trip to Fiore. Though how could she not when there were types of magic no great sage or elder could ever think of existing in the hands of near regular looking people. Even used by those who were decades younger than most of them, which her master had pointed out after seeing Wendy and Gray's display during the fight with the dragon.

"As for your prior words Ms. Mercury, I may be a young ruler, but through many experiences, I have grown into the monarch that sits before you." The Queen said as Rory tilted her head, Itami catching a glimpse of that troubling grin the Reaper often liked to wear.

"Then a ruler should know when action must take precedence and when to give a merciful death to a beaten opponent." Rory wanted to see how this queen truly behaved since her naivety would become her undoing as all young rulers are forced to learn the hard way.

"What you say holds weight, that I cannot deny; however, when an animal is wounded and cornered it arrives at the point when it's its deadliest." Queen Hisui answered and Rory grew curious as to where she was going with her words. "I will not sow further suffering and reap the countless troubles that follow those actions."

Rory had to admit that most children that acquire power believe they can change so much before realizing that for every good-natured action they take, there will come some sort of consequence. It leads those rulers down a path of apathy before they come to realize that change for the better is ultimately pointless and the status quo is easier to upkeep. Those children tend to fail as rulers and Rory's seen it happen time and time again for as long as she's lived, the current Emperor breaking the staled tradition by not even trying in the first place. Queen Hisui came off different after her reply, Rory gaining a bit of a grasp at understanding the young monarch. Piecing together that she's already experienced a great failure and has learned her lesson, but has not given up on her quest to make a change for the better where need be. The gothic lolita could see that Queen Hisui was willing but cautious, where Rory often saw others who are willing but foolhardy.

"Perhaps you do understand what's happening, if only to a certain degree," Rory replied, but was slightly thrown off when the Queen gave her a kind smile.

"With the years of wisdom you possess, I am humbled that I live up to a standard many seemed to have faltered to meet in your eyes." Now that brought a genuine smile to Rory's face as this young lady was much more attuned to reality than most boorish individuals she has dealt with as of late.

From behind the trio, Pina was amazed at how on her first meeting with Rory the Reaper, Queen Hisui managed to gain praise from the Apostle. Genuine praise from the demi-goddess always seemed to be hidden behind teasing words or that of obvious acknowledgment, but the Queen saw through it all and made the Apostle smile in a way Pina hadn't seen before. The redhead would've continued her thought if she hadn't noticed Tuka looking at Lelei strangely and Queen Hisui patiently watching Lelei.

Before anyone could say another word, a squad of white armored knights appeared from almost thin air. They all surrounded the group as a woman with short hair pointed a blade towards Lelei, a cautious stance as the blue-haired girl was genuinely surprised at the sudden blade. Pina heard Itami's squad try to draw their weapons, but each one of their guns had been locked into position since they were being held in place by ice. The same could be said about her knights as the sheaths over their swords were frozen over and the redhead felt panic creep its way into her for what all this could mean.

The group looked at each other worriedly before they noticed Queen Hisui raise her hand, the knights who suddenly appeared slowly pulled away with their weapons as the ice also withdrew. At first, the group turned to look at Gray for what he had done although he urged them to keep their focus on the Queen as the white armored knights regrouped in front of the high rise.

"Please forgive the suddenness, they believed young Lelei was conjuring up a spell." Itami was one of the many surprised people to learn that it was actually Lelei who set them off rather than Rory as they had come to expect. "My Elite Guard were simply thinking of my safety."

"The White Tigers, right?" Tuka asked towards Rory as the woman with short hair looked at the elven girl curiously.

"If I can speak freely, Queen Hisui, I let them know ahead of time to be careful but I hadn't expected Lelei to try something new to her so soon," Gray spoke up from the very back of the group as Lelei bowed apologetically.

"It's alright, it was quite obvious that young Lelei was attempting to use Magic Sense although it was made quite apparent that she's very unfamiliar with the technique." Queen Hisui said as she knew that there was a familiar ping that the blue-haired girl gave off, but she was forcing too much magic for a simple scan.

"I humbly apologize, my first experience with this technique came from the very first interaction with Gray and personal curiosity about the usage of more precise sensing had taken hold." Lelei learned more from the other FEF members about Magic Sense, but they never came around to teaching her how to be proficient like them. "I sensed magic emanating from your person, Your Highness, and wondered if you were also a wielder."

"Practicing is all well and good, but be mindful of your surroundings when making attempts." Queen Hisui advised in an interesting blend of light-hearted scolding towards the young wizard. "A simple question may have also sufficed, with my answer being that I, too, am a mage."

"I will be mindful in the future, my apologies." Lelei bowed again before lowering her head in what some believed to be embarrassment, which those who practiced in a craft could understand.

"Apology accepted," The Queen said as she raised her hand once again and the White Tigers vanished into thin air. "Aside from this little misunderstanding, I hope your experience within Fiore will be a memorable one."

"At this time, I ask the JSDF and Special Region guests to exit the room. The Queen will continue deliberations in time." Arcadios proclaimed and as the group made to bow, he continued. "However, Princess Pina Co Lada and her retainers shall remain."

The JSDF looked towards Pina for a moment before bowing their heads, a team of maids entering the room to escort them out to an available parlor. Gray hesitated to leave but was gently pushed along by one of the maids to exit and had no other choice as the Special Region girls went on ahead. As soon as Gray had exited, the doors were once again shut and now it was simply Pina, her Rose Order, and the Queen. Her Senate was still there, but Pina was far more intimidated solely by Queen Hisui.

"You may be wondering why I had you stay behind? Simply put, this is the most opportune moment to ask one of the Crown directly as to why you attacked us." Queen Hisui said as Pina could see her sitting up straighter in her throne and the redhead could recognize many of her Senate focusing in harder. "We hadn't raised a blade nor a spell against your Empire and yet, you sent soldiers to the heart of my kingdom."

"It's a matter that is hard to explain, Your Grace." Pina began as she watched the young queen raise an interested eyebrow.

"Then explain it to the best of your abilities, I'll give you all the time you need." Queen Hisui said as Pina balled up her hands into fists nervously as this was the defining moment for the Empire.

"For centuries, the Gate has been known to inhabit a holy site to the Empire in which the Emperors of past have sent forces to investigate what may be beyond it." Pina stuck to the history she was taught as a young girl for her explanation since it would buy her some time. "Each expedition brought forth intrigue and it was never second-guessed whether or not we should cross."

"Sending soldiers to investigate was the Empire's first reaction, but not once had anyone thought of what these soldiers had to do to acquire those trinkets for your empire?" The Queen asked and the redhead had no answer since it was never really documented of the trials they had to go through.

"I'm afraid that most Emperors of old cared only if they succeeded in their mission," Pina replied as it was always about the success to inspire the people about their rule that mattered in the end.

"Selfishness is what lead your recent incursion into this standoff we're in now, is that correct?" Pina noticed that her knights worriedly eyed her since they knew she would defend her father against those that spoke ill of him.

"In truth, the regiment sent to your world was one sent out of curiosity since it was the first time in recorded history that two Gates have opened." It would only do Pina more good to speak the truth towards the Queen since the redhead believed that they had some sort of truth-telling magic in place to make sure she didn't tell a lie.

"Out of curiosity you say, but were you aware of the horrors those soldiers of yours have done!?" A representative exclaimed as he got to his feet, many others joining alongside him. "Chaos ensued throughout Crocus because they were sent with a curious intent!?"

"The soldiers were tasked with exploring and bringing back anything worthy of note, those were honorable men sent out on a quest."

"They were not in any way honorable, young lady." A representative said as she waved her hand to magnify images she had on her person. "Take a look at these images and then tell me that those men were honorable."

Pina watched as the images sprang up and had to cover her mouth at the first image she saw as it showed a man who had been impaled by three spears against a wall, each one having the Imperial banner adorning them. The worst thing about the image was that the deceased man was a civilian with no sign of a weapon on him anywhere. The next few images all revealed the same thing as dozens of civilians had been killed in the attack with an Imperial signature to prove who had done it. The last image to be shown made Pina and her knights turn away as it showed a mother clutching her daughter in her arms with a spear running through both of them.

"You called them honorable men, but would one murder a defenseless man in cold blood? Would one dare attack a mother protecting her child from the chaos around them?" Pina had no words to explain any of this as it was never expressed what happens beyond the Gate aside from what the soldiers brought back.

"To add to this, more atrocities had been committed such as kidnapping and the raping of many girls." Queen Hisui spoke up with a condemning and disdainful look upon Pina and her knights. "Those were monsters dressed to be soldiers, the very ones you were so sure of being honorable men of your Imperial army."

"I…I have no words." Pina ultimately said as the images were truly stomach-churning, but to know those fearful nightmares of her innocence being forcefully taken away happening on such a scale was horrifying.

"Quite questionable that the princess of an empire isn't aware of the atrocities it commits, let alone to the women it captures." Representative Bauru spoke out as more of Queen Hisui's Senate began to clamor in agreement with the representative.

"Silence!" Arcadios commanded as Hisui sent him a subtle look, the room falling deathly quiet at the Head Knight's command and Pina was simply grateful that they weren't being berated anymore.

"Justice has been dealt with great efficiency and speed to those who lived after the counterattack had taken place. Many are held within the prisons here in the capital, but those who refused to comply and were too aggressive were given an alternative." Queen Hisui said evenly and Pina was weary as to what she had in mind. "I did not make this decision lightly, but if they truly wished to gain their freedom, then they had to traverse and escape the castle's dungeon."

"Have any made it back to the Empire?" Pina tentatively asked as she was only aware of the ones they had sent back themselves.

"Those who went in have never made it more than a day as the wardens have found them fairly quickly." Queen Hisui replied and Pina felt her heart sink at the fact that their Imperial pride had cost them their lives in a vain attempt at bravado against a superior force.

"If I may be so bold, Your Grace, isn't that inhumane to lead them on in the hopes that they'd get their freedom? To push the idea that they'd even had the chance to escape in the first place?" Hamilton spoke up in the hopes of shifting the attention away from her princess, which ultimately worked as Representative Bauru scoffed loudly.

"Yes, you are bold to say such a thing, young lady! "Inhumane," you say, but what was inhumane was what your soldiers had done without a second thought!" He exclaimed as another wave of images were projected, but this time they had come from Bauru himself. "Take a look at these photos if you will, Princess Pina."

Pina watched as the images flipped through several men, women, and children being escorted off a Pelican. All their clothing ragged and torn with filthy faces aplenty within the crowds as various FEF soldiers were providing water and food to them. One still image showed many women with battered legs and severe bruising across their bodies, with many a face showing nothing but a hollowness in their eyes. It was all so sickening to see and the redhead had taken notice that Queen Hisui slightly flinched at some of the images, but otherwise remained stoic upon her throne. All the while Pina felt her anxiety growing at what all of this meant, as these were no doubt images taken from after the Imperial assault on their capital.

"These photos before you were taken after Operation: Trident, a successful mission to rescue all citizens of Fiore taken prisoner by former Imperial forces. Enemy casualties were high, but we did not lose a single Fiorean life and rescued other prisoners along the way." Bauru said and Pina felt a weight in her stomach at the fact that these came from within the Empire. "The suffering of the women continued even beyond our jurisdiction so I ask you, young lady, if you still believe that what My Queen has done was still "inhumane" in your opinion?"

Hamilton could not answer as this was far more than she thought they had prepared and far more devastating that the ruthless nature of the soldiers was only incriminating them as time went on. The chestnut-haired knight cursed herself for speaking out as now she had made the situation so much worse for Pina, worse still was that the others couldn't even begin to defend these malicious acts.

"Where your people never even shed the light of mercy upon our citizens, Her Highness allowed that evil filth that went into the dungeons to live once they had been found by the wardens," Bauru added as the devastation was clearly written across Pina's features that even after all that had happened, Queen Hisui still showed mercy.

The Imperials stood in silence as they had come to realize that any attempt to clear some portion of their names would only be met with evidence that would damn them all. How could any of them had foreseen just how terrible of a position they were in after the meetings concerning the treaties they made with the FEF. Now that it was only them in the room, they were being damned to the deepest parts of the underworld for the actions of their fellow Imperials which many were no doubt anything more than a corpse buried beneath the dirt. They made the effort to find peace and so did the Queen, but Pina had come to believe that her Senate was making sure she would see the "true colors" of her Empire.

Hamilton watched the various faces of disgust from many of the senators, not one face showing an ounce of pity towards the group of women. The only people who didn't look at them in such a way were Ambassador Myu who wore a face of disinterest, Arcadios who remained neutral during the entire spectacle, and Queen Hisui with her ever-stoic face. The chestnut-haired knight turned to look at her princess to see what their next move was, only to see her unsheathe the ceremonial sword that she brought alongside her. She learned that the Japanese made her leave it behind since she couldn't bring a weapon over, even though they allowed Lelei's staff and Rory's halberd, so she was curious what the redhead planned to do with it here.

On cue, the White Tigers surrounded them again with the same short-haired woman pointing her blade at Pina this time with an unnerving glare aimed at the redhead. The tense situation was lifted as Queen Hisui raised her hand once again and the Elite Guard stood before the Queen on guard. Pina let out a shaky breath as she continued and laid the blade horizontally on the ground, much to the shock of the Rose Order and curiosity of Queen Hisui. Pina went onto her knees as she placed the tips of her fingers on the flat of the blade and finally bowed deeply before the Fiorean queen. With no other options left to her and damnation always presenting itself from every side, the Third Princess to the Saderan Empire had ultimately chosen to prostrate herself before the superior power.

"I, Pina Co Lada, Third Princess to the Crown, beseech you for your mercy. The actions of my countrymen are inexcusable, but I implore you not to punish the innocent citizens of my Empire for their crimes." Pina could not feel shame for what she had done nor could she feel anger for being forced into this position, but prayed against the odds that she could save the lives that shouldn't be judged for the mistakes the crown and soldiers made.

"What good does the begging of a princess matter when the Emperor will simply carry on with his agenda?" Another male representative voiced out as another round of agreements echoed around Pina as she resumed to bow her head.

"If mercy should be shown then the Emperor himself should've presented himself rather than his daughter!" A woman spoke out as many also agreed with her and Pina began to feel that her final attempts at appeasement were shattering, just like her pride.

The Rose Order was in a state of confusion as their princess had decided to prostrate herself while the berating continued, but the redhead refused to lift her head. The trio of knights didn't know what was needed of them as they had never seen the prideful princess grovel before, their own confidence wavering at the sound of the senators cheering on the need for their Emperor to show himself if the Empire wanted the matter truly resolved. Bozes took the briefest of moments to collect herself and reaffirm her stance of always staying by the princess' side, no matter what path she chose and made her decision.

"I, Bozes Co Palesti, Second Daughter of Marquis Palesti, beseech Queen Hisui Fiore for mercy onto the innocent and on Princess Pina!" The ringlet blonde followed in her princess' actions as she prostrated herself beside Pina, focusing on her actions than the look the redhead was giving her.

"I, Hamilton Uno Ror, First Daughter of Daiquiri Uno Ror, beseech Queen Hisui Fiore for mercy upon the innocent of the Empire and Princess Pina!" The chestnut-haired knight soon followed in their footsteps as she made her way on the other side of Pina.

"I, Panache Fure Kalgi, Member of the Baron Kalgi's clan, also beseech Queen Hisui Fiore for mercy towards the innocent and Princess Pina!" The white-haired young woman wasn't about to stand around like a fool as she too forsook her pride and prostrated herself beside Bozes before the young queen.

The senators continued to clamor about the insignificance of their actions and that more had to be done before the idea of mercy should be given to them. All around the Imperials, voices filled with anger and a blazing fury for justice continued as they kept their heads down. If they could see, then they would've discovered Ambassador Myu now sitting up and more attentive after watching the four young ladies bowing before the queen.

"Enough!" Queen Hisui exclaimed as she raised her hand forward and the room fell silent as the green-haired queen looked towards Pina. "Lift your head and stand, Princess Pina, so that I may speak with you face to face."

Pina lifted her head slowly at her request and a part of her would always be astonished at how easily her command would be taken heed of by those of her court. As she stood, her knights lifted their heads and nervously awaited the Queen's answer as Pina finally stood on her feet.

"People have suffered in numerous ways because of your Empire's actions and despite that, you came to me of your own volition seeking peace. Going as far as surrendering your own pride for the sake of others when you've realized you could not bargain your way to peace." Queen Hisui began as Pina tried her best to keep eye contact with her, pushing past her nerves if need be. "Tell me truthfully; why are you seeking a peaceful resolution to this conflict between our nations?"

"After the display of power your Special Forces had shown in the defense of Italica, added to the fact that it was only but a handful of mages, I knew that the Empire could not survive a prolonged fight with such a force," Pina admitted as it would do her no good in trying to save face after prostrating herself before her. "I've done whatever possible to assure that I can deescalate further fighting from both forces to ensure the Empire's safety, coming to learn that it was the only path left available to us."

"This sentiment and realization, are you the only one who sees the dangerous path our nations are marching into if this continues." Queen Hisui questioned as Pina had wished she wasn't, but after what had happened at Rondel, she wasn't so sure.

"I am, but I know that my Father could change his way of thinking with more convincing from the trusted Senate in place within the Empire." Whether he'd admit to wrongdoing was something Pina was unsure of, but admitting when they were out of their depth was much more likely.

"After what my forces have done, he still requires convincing? And what of any of your other siblings closer to the crown? Are they ones to see what lies ahead like you?" It was true that after everything, her Father should know that it's all a fruitless effort to try and conquer the FEF, but someone as delusional as Zorzal or foolhardy as Diabo was another story.

"I'm afraid not, Your Grace. This is an undertaking that I must bear on my own with only my Rose Order at my side." Pina proclaimed as the only people left for her to trust were herself and her knights, maybe some of the others if they desired to do so.

"Then it's become clear to you that the consequences have greater effects the worse the action, yes?" Queen Hisui asked as Pina nodded her head as it's been made abundantly clear that so much was now riding on the redhead's shoulders because of the attack on Fiore. "I'd like to ask you this Princess Pina, do you think of me as naïve?"

"I do not, Your Grace," Pina replied quickly as she thought that she had said something incorrectly to the young queen.

"Prove it to me by making sure my citizens are returned and your Empire makes a change for the better." Pina looked at her with surprise as she began to dare against all signs that Queen Hisui was extending a hand in peace to her. "There are no winners in war, only those with the least number of casualties and the suffering of the people caught in the crossfire."

"If you are allowing, then I'll do everything within my power to rectify the mistakes of my Father." Pina stood taller right then and there as she could truly believe in the idea that Queen Hisui was giving her blessing for the peace treaty to truly take place.

"But keep in mind Princess Pina, this agreement that I and my nation are joining only extends to you. The Empire as a whole will not receive support from Fiore, you are the only one who will have access to us and will be given support at the discretion of Supreme Commander Jura." Pina had to admit that it was better than nothing and though she knew she couldn't ask for their help if things grew worse with the JSDF, she could at least have faith that the FEF could help if something were to go wrong in the Empire.

"It will be as you wish, Your Grace," Pina replied glad that after that harrowing experience and having to toss her pride to the wind, it was well worth having support from the FEF and even its queen to an extent.

"Very well, the agreed-upon terms shall be upheld and what prisoners held within the base will be returned promptly." The Queen said as she was reviewing a few sheets of paper detailing what had been spoken about between Jura and Hamilton. "Furthermore, by the request of Commander Erza Scarlet, we'll help improve the image, of at least yourself, with the demi-humans by helping locate and liberating Tyuule, the former queen of the Warrior Bunnies. We will impart an official ledger directly linked to my person with the proclamation that Tyuule shall be under the protection of the FEF."

"'Tis greatly appreciated, Your Grace," Pina said even though she couldn't believe that the Queen was on board with the idea of liberating Tyuule to help them, especially after everything said.

"Be mindful, Princess Pina, for this is a delicate matter. We will not abide anymore "mistakes" from your Empire, from this day forward it shall be your responsibility to deal with the actions of your Father before they come to our attention." Queen Hisui warned and Pina knew that she was on a razor-thin line with the young queen, but the redhead's worries were placed upon a different person. "You may go now; the maids will show you to the parlor."

As if on cue, a small team of maids entered the chamber and helped escort the Imperials out of the room as Brandish kept an eye on them as they left. Once the doors closed, she reclined in her seat with a short hum of interest after witnessing the meeting of a princess and a queen.

"What is it, Randi?" Dimaria asked as she didn't have that much interest in what transpired but was curious as to what got the green-haired woman's attention.

"Pina managed to impress me for once, she's pretty naïve but knows when she's beat. I'll give her some credit for facing the Queen without her tail between her legs in the end." Brandish didn't find the redhead all that remarkable, aside from her annoying need to suck up to Gray, but was thoroughly intrigued when she went as far as pleading for mercy. "I just wonder if it's the same for Pinky?"

Straight across from Brandish on their own balcony, Laxus and Natsu had been privy to everything that had gone down in the meeting. Asking ahead of time for the Queen not to acknowledge them so they could see this all play out for themselves without Pina being self-conscious of their presence. Natsu sat in his chair with his arms crossed, a troubled expression on his face as Laxus was reclined in his seat with arms crossed as well.

"There you have it, Natsu. Erza and Gray were right about that girl." Laxus said as the pink-haired dragon slayer gave him a scoff.

"So what? Doesn't mean her name's in the clear if her dad's the reason so many people suffered because it's some sort of "tradition" to them." Natsu angrily replied with a huff as he never expected Pina to do anything to gain favor with Hisui.

"Don't know what else to tell you, Numb-Skull," Laxus said as he stretched his arm out to give a short wave over towards Arcadios. "Pina willingly gave up everything that meant to her to ask Hisui for a chance to prove herself."

"She didn't give up anything!" Natsu exclaimed as she didn't even give up that snazzy-looking sword to her when she was bowing like he thought she would.

"I've seen her type before and for her, pride means everything. Pina threw it away for Hisui because there was nothing left for her to give as penance." Laxus said as he got up to leave the balcony with Natsu on his heels. "You can stay mad at her asshole father for all I care, but I say you shouldn't give Pina a hard time anymore. She's a girl who's trying to make things better, something I haven't seen anyone do in that godforsaken place yet."

"Yeah, we'll see," Natsu replied halfheartedly as for once, someone from the Special Region actually showed some humility that wasn't a demi-human.

Even still, the pink-haired dragon slayer wasn't sure how to take Pina's actions after being so hellbent on taking down everything she held dear after discovering that she was the princess. He's heard Erza constantly talk about how Pina was trying to do good where her people went wrong and how she sent envoys with them to prove how serious she was, but it didn't matter to him if the Empire was still willing to fight them. He heard that Jellal and his guild had to deal with her people because they tried to kidnap and force wizards to join their army, showing him that they'd do anything to get ahead.

What was bothering Natsu was Pina didn't act like them like he thought she would when they first met in Italica, thrown off a little when he was told that the bandits were people who fought for her Empire from other nations. He didn't hear her explain it at the time since he tried so hard to tune her out of his head, but felt uneven in a way after finding out that she was battling those who betrayed her. What also annoyed him was that she was persistent and even when she knows she's beaten, she'd keep trying for the sake of someone else just like a Fairy Tail mage would do. It irked him to no end that that was the parallel that came to his head when he thought about what Pina had just done and he felt the intense anger he had against her waver because of it.

Something was getting to him if he's considering Laxus' words that she isn't all that bad, but he tried to stay focused as the fight was still far from over.
