Hi, everyone! I've been working very hard on this story and finally managed to write this piece. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did while writing it. Please feel free to review, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Disclaimer: I don't own My Hero Academia or any of its characters. Mizuki, however, is my own creation.
Let's start with the story, shall we?*
Chapter 1
"A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality" – John Lennon
It was a sunny day, a few puffy clouds colouring the bright blue sky in the city of Musutafu, Japan. It was difficult to accept the fact that something bad could happen on such a nice day. It was difficult, not impossible.
He shouldn't have stood up to them. He knew that but he couldn't help it. The boy was in pain and what Kacchan did wasn't right. Now, he lay on the ground as the bright sun shone above him and soft sobbing sounds next to him.
"Are you alright?"
Big green eyes stared at tiredly at the person who overshadowed him. He lay there in pain, bruises and scratches all over his skin. He looked at the ruby red eyes, the spiky ash blonde hair ringing a bell in his head.
"K-Kacchan?" He managed to rasp softly, his lips dry from the sunlight. His eyes suddenly widened and he tried to push himself away from the person. Yet, as soon as he tried to sit up, his body gave a cry in protest.
"Take it easy, Izu-kun." Her voice was soft and soothed his raging nerves. He looked back at her, a girl the same age as him giving him a warm smile. She wore a red skirt with a light beige top, her black and red shoes reaching her ankles.
Midoriya Izuku
Age: 4
Quirk: None
"He really did a number on you." She let out a sigh and shook her head in disapproval. "Are you alright? Here, take my handkerchief." She pulled out a pink handkerchief and handed it to the brown-haired boy who was sniffing rapidly.
"A-Aren't you going to hurt us too? You're that Katsuki's sister, right?" The boy asked and watched as she frowned. She shook her head rapidly and handed him the piece of cloth, insisting that he take it.
"No, I promise that I won't hurt you, neh, Izu-kun?" The ash blonde girl looked at the bushy green haired male and his eyes started to tear up. His bottom lip quivered and he let out a sniff as his emotions bubbled up.
"M-Mi-chan… I was so scared!" Izuku cried out and then started to bawl his eyes out. The girl nodded and went to sit down in front of them. She pulled off her peach coloured backpack and zipped it open.
"Don't worry, it's over now. Lucky for us, Mom's craziness will come in handy. She insisted that I put in a medical aid kit." She chuckled as she reached within her bag. She pulled out the white box, the red cross etched within the metal of the box.
Bakugou Mizuki
Age: 4
Quirk: Explosion
Izuku sniffed away his tears when he saw her open the box and started to fix the brown-haired boy's wound on his knee first. She said nothing as she gently disinfected it, reaching for a band aid that was perfect to coverup the spot.
"It should feel better soon. Can you walk?" The boy nodded vaguely and she grunted. He stood up and muttered a faint 'thank you' underneath his breath and reached for his backpack. As soon as he grabbed it, he took off without another word.
"It's your turn. I won't be able to bandage up everything, otherwise you'll look like Band-Aid man," she stated and her face pulled into a disapproving expression. "We don't want you to look like such a lame hero."
Izuku blinked a few times before he burst out laughing. A smile came onto her lips and she nodded in approval. Izuku couldn't help but laugh at her silly statement and held his sore stomach as tears formed in the corner of her eyes.
"You're funny, Mi-chan."
"Yeah, I know. Now, hold still so I can treat your wounds," she sternly ordered and he nodded. She pulled out the disinfectant and started to treat his minor cuts. He hissed softly and bit his bottom lip to stop his from crying at the burning. It hurt a lot despite her gentle touch.
"I'm sorry," she softly apologized as she patted the spots with the cotton. Izuku looked at her with a confused expression. Her red eyes were narrowed as she worked, her short and spiky ash blonde hair not bending to the breeze's will.
"I-It's not your fault, Mi-chan! I-I-I was looking for trouble a-and b-besides, I've had worse!" He nervously stuttered but it didn't improve her expression. He averted his eyes to the ground and nothing more was said.
Bakugou Mizuki was a kind girl but being the twin sister of Bakugou Katsuki caused everyone to think the complete opposite. It was true, she had quite an aggressive side that was just as frightening as her brother's but she was calm and collected most of the time.
Mizuki disliked bullying and would usually always argue with her brother. She didn't mind standing up for what was right and cared a lot for her friends. Though, Izuku being the only one who stayed her friend, she still cared.
"There you go." Mizuki put the last plaster on his arm and closed the medical aid box. She slid it back into her peach coloured backpack and zipped it closed. She stood up, dusted off her clothes and held out her hand towards Izuku.
He took her hand without any protest and stood up, wincing at his aching legs. The bruises still hurt but the cuts felt much better. He smiled thoughtfully and nervously looked at the ground. He bowed in front of her, a blush forming in his cheeks.
"T-Thank you so much, Mi-chan! I won't ever forget this!" Izuku loudly stated and Mizuki sweat dropped. There were a few people who walked past them and stared at the scene that caused Mizuki to flush.
"I-It's fine! You don't have to thank me. After all, that's what friends are for, right?" Mizuki stated and watched with wide eyes as Izuku suddenly started to cry again. She panicked and tried to comfort him with all her might.
More people were walking by and started to whisper amongst themselves. Mizuki let out a sigh and scratched the back of her head. It was obvious that they thought she made the boy cry, which wasn't entirely a lie. It couldn't be helped with such an emotional kid.
"If you're done bawling your eyes out, we can go back home." She watched as Izuku quickly wiped away his tears and nodded with a sniff. She smiled and lazily slung her bag over her shoulder as she started to walk.
"Ow!" Mizuki stopped dead in her tracks and glanced over her shoulders to see Izuku in pain after taking one step. She let out an exaggerated sigh and put down her bag. She walked towards the boy, his green eyes looking up at her.
"S-Sorry. I'm fine! I can w-w-woah! M-Mi-chan! W-What are you doing?! P-Put me down! I can walk!" Izuku freaked out when she hoisted him up onto her back. He felt his face turn a deep shade of red, his heart hammering in his chest.
"Shut up, you're loud." Her dangerous tone was enough to make him swallow his words. He held onto her as she started to walk. She grabbed her peach backpack and handed it to Izuku. He took it and put it on his back before she started to head home.
Izuku stared at the back of her head and tried to hide his guilty expression. She did all this to help him. He didn't mean to take advantage of her. He didn't understand why she was always this nice to him.
"Wipe that stupid expression off your face. I know you're making that guilty expression again," Mizuki scolded him and he bit his bottom lip. "I want to do this, otherwise I would be a terrible friend," she murmured softly and her grip tightened on him.
They had been friends ever since they were three years old and always went along with Katsuki's adventures. That's where she met Izuku for the first time. Since he was the only one she liked from her brother's friend group, she stuck with him.
After all, he was didn't want to be friends only because of her quirk. Yes, he did freak out a lot about it but never identified her for her quirk. Even though he was quirkless, he was still worth being friends with.
That was the reality they were caught in. Living in a superhuman society wasn't always the best. Yes, it had its perks since the comic book dreams came to light. The fight against villainy became a reality and heroes weren't fantasy role models anymore.
However, not everyone was as lucky to be born with superpowers. Society was divided into two divisions, those with quirks and those without. The latter being much less. Even so, if you could dream enough, you could reach the stars.
Quirkless or not.
"You're really cool, Mi-chan," Izuku spoke up, a pair of ruby red eyes glancing back but only saw his curly green hair as he hid his face behind her back. "You're always helping people without them even asking. You're going to be a cool hero someday."
Mizuki huffed, her eyes softening and a small smile forming on her lips. What are you talking about, Izu-kun? You're the one who's cool. You stand up against bullies despite being scared and you get yourself hurt for the sake of others. The cool one here, is you.
"It's not important to me to become a hero. All I want to do is open my own Fashion Designing business and take over from Dad. I'll hire heroes to come and model for me. I'll get all of their photographs and hang them up on my wall!" She grinned wildly as her eyes sparkled.
"Ah, I want to meet them too!"
"Nope." She popped her lips as she bluntly replied and Izuku pouted. She glanced over her shoulder at his upset face and burst out laughing. Izuku frowned and protested against her, but she merely continued to laugh.
"You're more than welcome to come and meet all of them, Izu-kun," she stated and Izuku's face lit up like a Christmas tree. A mischievous gleam crossed her eyes and a sneaky grin came onto her lips. "After you modelled for me." She watched as Izuku's face turned green.
"Mi-chan!"
She laughed at his whine and his playful glare was easily brush passed. Izuku, unable to keep his own laughter under control, also joined in and lay his head onto her back. Mizuki's laughter died down as she felt him lay against her.
"Even if you decide to open your own fashion business, I still think you'll be a cool hero because you're already my hero." Mizuki stopped walking and felt a squeeze in her chest. A small smile and faint blush came onto her facial features.
"Idiot-zuku," she muttered underneath her breath and then continued. She wasn't sure if he heard her as steady breaths came from the boy. He fell asleep faster than she expected, his soft snores making her chuckle.
They almost reached his apartment building and the sun was slowly started to retire from the sky. Mizuki had a feeling that her mother was going to scold her until next week and mentally groaned at the thought.
Well, it was worth it in the end. When I get home, Katsuki's going to get it! She thought and felt a tingling sensation run down her arms. She resisted letting her quirk activate and briefly looked at Izuku.
"I'll be a cool hero, huh? As long as I can protect you, then I'll be the coolest hero you'll ever see. Just you wait, Izu-kun. I'll blow you and my brother away," she vowed, ruby red eyes looking at the sky as she stated those words.
Izuku's lips curled upwards as he heard her speak but said nothing. He kept his eyes closed as he lay against her back. He was going to take on her challenge and this time be the hero even though he was quirkless.
It was a promise.
