Prologue: Round Three.
When were the fates ever fair?
Percy Jackson cursed himself for thinking, even for a moment, that their happiness could last. He had made a ginormous mistake, having believed that fates were done with him. He had led not one but TWO wars. He had defeated countless monsters and ancient beings. He survived two prophecies, and he had returned from literal hell. The list could go on and on. He believed that him, having endured so much, had every right to finally have a happy ending.
But the fates had the guts to take away…. To take away Jason. 'If they were so as cruel to let Jason pass on, why would they overlook their favorite demigod?' Percy thought sarcastically. He slammed his fist into the ground, and the earth shook beneath him. He tried to get himself to remain calm, with no luck.
How could he remain calm when his half was torn away from him? He closed his eyes in despair. Percy recounted this morning, a morning like every other, in the peaceful city of New Rome.
ㅡ
He had woken up from his dorm, with his grumpy roommate telling him to shut his alarm off, and had prepared for school. He got out of his dorm room, expecting Annabeth, who was always early, to be waiting for him. He expected a familiar exasperated greeting of, "Are you EVER going to wake up early, seaweed brain?" or something along those lines.
But the corridor was empty. He was confused for a second, but he quickly grinned. Oh boy, Annabeth late was something that happened on very rare occasions. Percy walked to the girl's dormitory, thinking of greeting lines to hand her, and soon reached her room. He knocked on the door, yelling, "Wake up, wise girl! If you don't wake up now, you aren't going to have enough time to prepare before we go."
But there was no response inside. Percy frowned. Annabeth had to be crashing like a rock if she wasn't waking up the loud noises he had made. True to his words, several girls who had overslept were hurriedly rushing to the baths, saying thanks to Percy for waking them up, and occasionally spitting curses in Latin.
Percy rapped his knuckles against the door once more, this time yelling even louder, "WAKE UP!" There was still no reply. Percy was seriously getting worried. He wished Annabeth's roommate were inside to help him out, but he knew that she was gone for a week to help her brother. He put his ears against the door. No sounds were emitted behind it. A very bad feeling crept up from the bottom of his stomach.
"ANNABETH!" he screamed as hard as he could, yet the door remained closed. Percy felt panic bubbling up inside him. "Annabeth, I'm sorry, but I'm coming in!" He yelled, and he uncapped Riptide. He slashed Riptide against the lock, and the lock broke off easily. He kicked the door open, darting his eyes around the room in a frantic search for Annabeth. The room was just like last night, when they had shared a good night kiss, with nothing out of place. Well, one thing was out of place.
Riptide crashed on the floor, but Percy gave no signs of recognition. Right now, he could not care less about it. Oh, the room was the same alright, except for just one thing;
Where was Annabeth Chase?
