*An alternative scene in the Konosuba film, set on the second night of Megumin's mother's attempt at forcing the two to get together.

Megumin stared at the frozen window. Her little mouth parted. She shot her wide eyes over to the door, the lock, the whole handle, it was gone. She was trapped. Trapped with Kazuma. She went to the door and pounded on it, she pressed her ear, there was breathing in the space beyond. 'Mom! She's on the other side!' Kazuma was sitting on the futon, Megumin's breath quickened in a panic.

She pounded on the door. "Mother! This isn't funny, this isn't funny! Open the door! Open the door! Open the door! Please open the door! Please!" The hard pounding of her little fist on the wall made ample noise. 'There's no way she can't hear me, there's just no way… but why isn't anyone else answering! Aqua! Darkness! Papa!'

Megumin shouted louder, longer, "Papa! Aqua! Darkness! Help me! Open the door!" She slowly trailed off in her shouting as understanding dawned. 'Mom used magic, she put them all to sleep first… then put me here locked me in… is life so bad?! This is what they want for me? Or is it 'from' me?! When we got home, Papa said Kazuma could never have my little sister but… no, wait…' Nobody said anything about herself.

'Kazuma is about to be rich, he has a house of his own, a manor even... That's why she did this.' Megumin put her forehead on the door, her little fist pounded half heartedly a few more times. "Mom… please… open… the… door…"

She knew her mother was there, on the other side… waiting.

Kazuma was waiting on the futon, 'He's always been a bit of a pervert, crass, crude, sometimes immature, a panty thief…' But, she couldn't help but think, 'He's also been my friend. We adventured together, we fought together, we took down impossible odds together. Would he really…?'

Megumin had no ready answer, he was still a young man, eager, full of desire, and here she was, an objectively pretty girl, beautiful even, despite feeling like she could stand to 'grow' more up top. They were near the same age, and now, 'My mother practically gift wrapped me for him.'

The moment couldn't be put off any longer. "Come on, come to bed already! It's cold in here!" Kazuma exclaimed and lay beneath the covers, he slapped her spot over and over. 'Oh boy! It's finally going to happen! It's about time I got some luck in this stupid world! And despite all my jokes… Megumin is so pretty! And her mom gave me her blessing!'

Then he stopped when he saw the shimmering in her eyes.

Megumin got to her feet and rubbed away a tear, stepping forward, every inch towards the young man she called her friend, burned her feet like an explosion spell. She lay down beside him, and looked over. "Please… please don't." She said with a quivering lip.

"What?" Kazuma asked, desire chased away by confusion.

Megumin whispered her next words, while a stray tear or two dripped down into the pillow on which she lay her head. "I guess- I guess I can't stop you. If I used my explosion spell, yeah, yeah I could. But that might kill my m-mom. My little sister, my dad… and destroy our, what did you call it? Our 'barn' where we live, on top of that… so, I can't do anything. I barely even showed up for martial arts training, you're bigger, you're stronger, if you want to do it… I've got no way out…"

Her red eyes held his face, "But I'm asking you… please don't make me. You're my friend… aren't you? Aren't you Kazuma… if you, if you do this… what my mom wants, what you want, nothing will be the same after that. I don't want things to change."

"Your mom… she's really out there?" Kazuma kept his voice to a whisper, the whole evening suddenly took on a much creepier vibe in his eyes.

Megumin gave a gentle nod, "Yeah, you see how poor we are, remember that magic item that showed me catching bugs to eat, stealing bread, trying to catch things in the river so my little sister could eat? That wasn't for fun… I never had much of anything. I didn't go adventuring for nothing, I just couldn't stay here, if I did, my little sister wouldn't get much to eat. Our clothes are not much better than lots of patches, our house is an old abandoned barn… why do you think she wants this?" She waved her hand back and forth between the two of them, her heart raced in her chest.

Kazuma was paralyzed, his entire body tensed, Megumin inched closer to him so that her breath wafted over and caressed his cheek.

The trickle of tears ran down Megumin's cheeks was steady and sure, staining the pathetic excuse for a tattered pillow. "My mom… she doesn't care what it takes, I didn't realize what that meant until last night and… and now. She's outside waiting for you to… to force me, to force yourself on me. Because… because you make me have your child, she expects you'll take responsibility. Then…" She bit her lower lip to stop the trembling, and stopped her speech at the same moment.

"Then?" Kazuma prompted.

"Then I won't have her life. She'd rather listen to you just… take what you want, than for me to keep living and end up how she did." Megumin's words were barely held stable, like they were dragged from off her tongue by wild horses.

"I guess, I guess she got her way… huh, Kazuma?" Megumin lay on her back. "I never thought this would happen to me, me. Or that my own mother would… would set me up." She swallowed hard and put her hands over her face.

"Just… I don't want to look, do what you're going to do, just give me a moment to think of something else, so I can just pretend I'm not here… that it isn't my partner, my teammate, doing this." Megumin sniffled and squeezed her eyes as tightly shut as she could. 'I'm not here, I'm not here, this isn't real, it isn't happening. I'm not going to be violated by Kazuma, I'm having a dream, a real bad dream and we're back at home and he's just taunted me about being younger than him and I threatened him with an explosion. Then we laughed again like we always do, and I fell asleep. That's all, when I wake up, everything will be normal as long as I don't look…'

As horrible and desperate thoughts ran through Megumin's mind, she couldn't see the way Kazuma sat up, though she heard the rustling of the threadbare blanket and figured it wouldn't be long.

So she didn't see that he just sat there looking down at the way the fearless little adventurer who had taken on generals and even a fortress that had destroyed countless cities over centuries, now lay trembling like a leaf. 'Wow… am I that much of a dog? OK, yes, a perv, kind of, a little, but what guy isn't? Is this 'really' Megumin though? I guess, I guess it is. I never thought anything of it because she's so over the top… but she's still a girl. A young one, younger than me, but not by much.'

It was a sobering thought and he looked down, all his 'interest' was leaving him. 'Her own mom set her up… that's just… wow. I was horrified by what those orcs were going to do… now, here she is, and 'I' am the orc. Only worse.' Kazuma was hit by the sinking feeling in his stomach, so strong that he was rendered physically ill.

Megumin was wiping her eyes with the palms of her hands, unwilling to look at him, waiting for what her mother clearly counted as some twisted form of salvation.

Her breath was cold, thanks in large part because of the solid ice he'd put over the window to keep her trapped with him. Now, seeing her lay there, she wasn't just the girl he taunted, or the teammate he traveled with. He saw her as someone in pain at the deepest of betrayals that were in her mind, about to both happen in the same night. Her mother, and her comrade, her friend, stripping her of her identity.

Kazuma began to think things through, on her back, lay an adventurer he trusted, despite her absurdities and obsessions. A friend he lived with, and someone with dreams. Perhaps impossible ones, but with her own mother's tacit 'permission' and antics, he could take all those away. 'She wouldn't be able to go adventuring anymore if she had a kid, my kid… she'd be stuck, her family can't take care of her, it would be up to me, she'd never look at me the same way. Do I want her to hate me? Would I want this if I were her?'

The more Kazuma asked, the more disgusted, and the more regretful he became that it even entered his mind. "Please… don't do it…" Megumin said and bit her lower lip to stop herself from asking him again.

'You damn dog… you scuzzy Kazutrash, Crapuma, what's wrong with you! You're not the hero! You're the villain!' He cursed himself and put a hand over hers.

She immediately began violently shaking her head and whispering. "No! Don't make me look, I don't want to see! I don't want to see!"

Kazuma swallowed, "Megumin…" he started to say and then looked toward the frozen window, his moment of heartfelt emotion was more than he could bear, and so he went to the tone he always used, differing only in that he was quieter and rougher in his voice than normal. "What makes you think I'm so hard up that I'd ever do it with a flat chested loli girl with explosions on the brain! I swear you're more dense than that useless goddess! I'm not in the least bit interested in you in any way shape or form, you're just a kid, way too young and way too crazy! I like boobs, big boobs like Yunyun! If I got turned on by you, I'd be getting it up every time I looked at a wall!"

He ranted at her and crossed his arms in front of his chest and looked away, her hands rubbed her red eyes redder and yanked away. His rant had been a rough, low whisper and for a moment when she looked up at him, she was full of fury.

Then, before she could draw her hand out to even slap, she saw his hands, folded as they were in front of his chest, it was easy to miss. But he was shaking, and she saw that Kazuma's eyes were closed, like he couldn't look at her. His fingers trembled and so did the rest of his arms, and the rest of his body was no better off.

Instead, she gave him a fragile smile that shook as much as the tips of his fingers and whispered, "Yeah, that's me, flat as a board and too young and full of explosions on the brain… heh, heh…"

"Yeah, so don't go getting any ideas about getting in the way of me and meg- ah , me and Yunyun's relationship, and she wanted my kid first.

That's how we ended up out here, remember?" He groused down at her, and she could only blink rapidly in response, unsure for a moment of what she heard.

Finally she answered, "Y-Yeah, right. I won't get in the way… after all, you're my friend, and friends wish for each other's happiness." Megumin said, and felt herself relax, a sense of safety coming over her that she lacked before.

Kazuma lay back down beneath the futon, but even without reaching to touch her, perhaps feeling like he shouldn't, Megumin could only think about the other side of the door. 'Would she really have just sat there, waiting, while he forced himself on me? Does she hate her life that much?' It was an ugly question, one that demanded an answer.

"Kazuma, I need to know something… and I need your help." Megumin said, and sat up to look down where he lay.

He furrowed his brow, "I wouldn't have done it." He answered.

She shook her head. "I need to know the truth… would m-mom have let it happen? Really?" Megumin sniffled.

"How do you expect to find that out? You don't really want me to-" Kazuma started to whisper out the question, but she shook her head.

"No. No. But if she hears me, will she come to stop you, or just… can she really just let it happen? I'm her daughter… I need- I need to know. I shouldn't ask but… please?" Megumin stared down at him, and he stared up at her.

"Are you sure? You might not like the answer." He pushed for certainty, but the dark haired mage only affirmed what she'd said with a sharp nod.

She put her hand on his forehead, "I said I didn't want things to change… but you had your chance, and you didn't do it. It may not sound like much, but… that changes things already. I can live with one more change too." Megumin bit her lip and stared at the locked door.

Then, without explaining herself, she began to make noises, pained ones, little yelps, and begging Kazuma to stop what he was doing.

Kazuma understood, and began to slap his hand on his arm to simulate the sound of his body slamming against Megumin's. All the while, she stared at the locked door, and waited.

"Ow, you're hurting me, Kazuma… please don't, please no, don't do it, don't do it… not… not there…" Megumin stared at the door and prayed to the gods for her mother to respond to what surely had to sound like her daughter begging for help, for mercy.

Kazuma slapped his hand on his arm faster, as if he'd picked up the pace on her instead, his own eyes transfixed on the door. Megumin raked her hands over the wooden floor as if desperately trying to claw her way away from her attacker.

As the faux assault continued, Megumin's tears returned, everything else was false, but those, and her ugly crying sounds that had to carry beyond the door, were real.

Finally she uttered the last words, her mother's last chance to come and 'save' her. "Please, take it out!"

Kazuma proved some small acting skill, and let out a loud, long sigh as if he had done anything but that.

When it was over, Megumin slowly stood, walked silently to the locked door, and pressed her ear to it. On the other side, she heard the rustling of cloth as her mother stood up, and then padding footsteps, as her mother walked away, believing that the trap had been sprung.

Megumin set her forehead against the door and collapsed to her knees again. "She didn't care… she was going to let that happen, she… she… she was listening in, thinking you'd… how could she?"

Kazuma could think of no answer to give to her. 'My parents weren't perfect but… damn.' "Megumin I'm… I'm sorry." He finally said, unable to think of anything else to say to her.

"I don't have a mother… not anymore. We'll stay the night, but tomorrow I want to go, but just one more thing, Kazuma…?"

"Um, yeah… you want me to go somewhere else for the night?" He asked and glanced at the frozen window. 'I guess I could melt it easily enough.' He considered for a moment.

Megumin shook her head and then lowered her eyes when she returned to the futon. "No, no I don't want to be alone right now, and if I have to be alone with someone, well, it's good that it's you. It looks like people you can trust are hard to come by, but betrayal is found even at home."

"Yeah… yeah that is… I don't know what that is." Kazuma said, and worn out by the stress of what had been barely an hour, he fell quickly asleep.

He was so deeply lost in slumber that he didn't even wake up when Megumin's fingers entwined with his, and she very gently squeezed his hand.
