Prologue: Mondstat
Lazing around at the couch of Nero's house lies Dante eating a slice of pizza after a hard day of work. "Vergil, when are you going to use that thing for something fun for once?" He asks in a tone of boredom.
Vergil being the slightly more "mature" of the two "As if I would let you wield the Yamato under my supervision" Says in a very demeaning tone almost as if he wanted him gone immediately.
"Come onnnn it's boring doing nothing, plus we already promised Nero that he would take control over Devil May Cry while we're gone right? Why not let him have a taste while we go do something fun!" Dante says while chewing on his pizza.
Vergil groans at the thought and suggestion but is intrigued at the thought of his son taking control over his rival brother's business. "I'll only let you use it once, after that you'll have to find a way home yourself!"
"I'll have to drag you in too, always have to keep an eye on you" He sighs annoyed at their deal back at the Qliphoth "Of course brother". He says. "So, where to Vergil?" Dante sits from his laying position whilst speaking.
"If you really wanted it in the vain of this "Joyriding" then I suppose both of us shouldn't be in the know for this" Vergil says begrudgingly, half expecting the portal to lead them to somewhere boring.
"Alrighty, whatever you say!" Dante says readying his pistols on his back bringing a small backpack to store "Small Items". Much to his brother's dismay as he immediately recognizes that it's a devil arm that stores weapons and goods. Vergil sighs and he grabs the Yamato from its sheathe.
One portal slice later they reach a bridge that leads to a gate with some sort of city behind the medieval castle wall. As they walk to the bridge they witness firsthand a tan man in navy-colored clothes as he blasts a small group of Hilichurls with ice. "Looks like the guy's got some taste in fashion too, ill go check this place out". He says walking in place as a girl with long brown hair and golden eyes approaches them. "Are you two travelers?" She says to the Sons of Sparda.
"We are nothing more than visitors, leave us be and we will be on our way". Vergil says unsheathing the Yamato once more to open an interdimensional portal, he dices a plus sign only to be blown by a gust of wind and the portal closing itself. He dices again only for the portal to open to another area in Teyvat which resembles china in a lot of ways as he notices it's an inn. "Likely another nation here, this place is alluringly different compared to here". Vergil mutters to himself.
"It looks like we're gonna be stuck here for now since that place is somewhere I don't like that next place ain't that right Vergil?". Dante chuckles while nudging Vergil indirectly communicating to him that he wants to stay here for a while. "On one condition brother, we leave when possible. I will be situating myself at this inn for now". Vergil says.
"Oh, by the way, sweet girl, what's your name?" Dante asks, distracting Vergil a little bit. "Oh, my name's Amber of the outrider knights! You must be a traveler right?" Amber says.
"Right on the money!" Dante nods then gawks at her for a while before shrugging. "This place ain't so bad after all right Vergil?" He says while averting his gaze away from her and to his brother. "It sure is for you Dant-" Vergil is cut short by a blast of ice coming from an Abyss Mage. "Scum." Unphased by the blast he sheathes his katana instantly killing it. The man in the navy colored outfit is in awe before being interrupted by more Hilichurls.
"Those Hilichurls are giving Captain Kaeya some trouble I should go help, I will come back to you two later!" Amber says as she cocks her bow backward.
"Pathetic." Vergil calmly says as a camp of Hilichurls come in as a result of that thing who shot Vergil being killed. Kaeya looks at the small frozen squad before Amber finishes them off with a bow. The ice elemental is unphased and walks to the man in the red coat slowly clapping.
"Another traveler? I suppose another member of the Knights of Favonious wouldn't hurt, especially your friend over there" He says, reaching Dante a handshake. "My name is Kaeya," The man says,
"Name's Dante, nice moves you got there by the way". He says in banter. "Oh, but your moves will be helpful if you join the Knights of Favonius". Kaeya says bouncing it back to him. "No worries though you will be a special case amongst our ranks just like a certain child." Kaeya chuckles in saying that before met with Dante's happy-go-lucky demeanor.
"I'll join your little club but under one condition, you pay me a place to stay." He says half expecting a rejection before Kaeya smirks. "I'll give you that compensation alright but what do you have to bring to the table?" He says gesturing a palm. "Me and my brother pretty much do the same thing so just watch his light show for now". He replies before pointing directly towards Vergil's direction.
Dante hears a very loud shout from his brother as he crouches down reaching for his blade. "YOU SHALL DIE!" Screams of many were heard as he sheathes the Yamato making the entire camp disappear in an instant.
"You most certainly will be our greatest asset, that is if you join the Knights of Favonius that is". Kaeya says as he approaches Vergil in the same demeanor he did to Dante expecting the same reaction.
"I have no time for your little club, I will be off now." He says in a cold, almost threatening manner. He turns to Dante. "Dante, we've already gone through this before, haven't we? I'll see you after a week at the inn or in your new club". He says but in a slightly lighter tone but in a way, Kaeya didn't notice. "I'll be joining them just for the extra cash," Dante haphazardly says with a gesture before continuing "We should decide who goes through that portal and stays right?". Vergil turns his back at the newly opened portal. "Hm?" The older brother then turns back in curiosity.
"Let's seal the deal on who stays and who goes with a duel? it's gonna oil us up for what's in store for us here anyway." The younger son of Sparda says with a cheeky little smile at the end.
Vergil smirks and steadies into a fighting stance with his katana overhead. "You certainly know your brother well, Dante". The older of the two jests. Dante's Devil Sword materializes from thin air as Kaeya is taken aback by the size.
"These two really remind me of a certain someone". Kaeya says to himself.
The shockwave of their blades clashing knocking Kaeya and Amber away. Both of them going into the gates, both of them looking for a certain someone. Their blades make a loud clanging noise as it attracts some of the knights to look. Vergil thrusts his sword into Dante "I can read you like an open book!" He exclaims as the thrust turns into a downwards slash. "Hey, that's my line!" Dante fires back while chuckling in banter as he wields his sword with his left hand desperately parrying his brother's merciless strikes reaching for another thing behind him.
"Jackpot!" A gunshot is heard as Dante pulls out Ivory from his right hand. His brother groans, "For once you're one step ahead of me brother, a deal is a deal, I shall head back here in a week's notice." Vergil says to Dante as the older brother is regenerating from a direct shot to the head as the bullet removes itself. "Goodbye, for now, Dante". He says walking to the portal. "Seems this place is beckoning for me to come" Vergil comments to himself, nowhere to be seen right after.
Kaeya and Amber are nowhere to be seen. "What is that?" as the onlookers are in shock and horror as they've witnessed the power these two individuals wield. The murmurs of the onlookers grow and grow as they question what that Devil Hunter is wielding considering most, if not all haven't seen a gun in their life.
The gate guards apprehend Dante as he picks up and hides his weapon with the son of Sparda cooperating, knowing he can bust out of them easily. The knights hold him for a while until. "Best let the recruit go, I'll have a little chat with him". The eyepatched man says as he slowly walks back within the gate area with a young female child following the lead in glee.
"Tube Bomb!" A small child exclaims and points at the gun with Kaeya trailing behind her. "Heh, she was begging me to drag me at the source of the sound and you don't seem like a bad apple." Kaeya chuckles as he pets the child. "Well whatever happens with Uncle Dante, Uncle Kaeya will cover," Kaeya says half-jokingly and half-seriously whilst patting her head.
"She's reminding me of another blonde kid I used to take care of, now Nero's friends with her". Dante thinks to himself.
"I think this man's tube bombs are cool!" The small girl gasps at a thought. "Maybe we can be friends!" With sparkles in her eyes at the excitement over a new friend. "I was on babysitting duty and figured that loud boom would attract this little girl, her nam-". Kaeya says casually before being interrupted by the child.
"Heyyy! Let me do it" The blonde child whines then clears her throat. "I'm Spark Knight Klee of the Knights of Favonius! I make bombs! Wait…" She ponders for a bit, looking around Dante before continuing. "Kaeya said there would be two of you! Where did your friend go?" She asks. "Yeah, Dante, Where DID he go?" The navy colored knight asked in the same tone as Klee.
"Well if I know my brother he's either resting at the inn or searching an opponent to fight," Dante says nonchalantly only to see Kaeya's carefree attitude turn a bit more serious. "Your brother showed what he can do but you clearly have a different way of going about it, care to show? It'll help that its proof you can belong in our ranks.". Kaeya explains, wanting a duel and also a valid reason why Dante used his brother as a metric for his power.
Dante nods in response. "Alright!" He readies up a little and has a small realization, "But can you give me one of your swords so I can at least look a bit knight-like?" Dante chuckles jokingly but also because he doesn't want to accidentally wound them badly with one blow.
Kaeya obliges and tosses him a basic broadsword and Dante readies into a basic stance. The two are waiting for the respective first strike until Dante gets impatient and vanishes from sight. "Tricked Ya!" He says in glee as he suddenly appears in front of Kaeya, putting a surprised look on his face until it starts lightly raining. "Cryo is always far more effective in the rain. This is going to get interesting". He starts activating his elemental Vision. "Cool It!" A sheet of freezing ice is drawn from his blade as Dante's lower body is encased in ice.
Kaeya then points the sword to his neck "I win." He says in a cocky manner. After a small pause then Dante puts his finger on the tip of the blade that is barely touching his neck.
Dante then pushes himself back partially sliding because of the ice and the wet concrete of the bridge intentionally spinning himself onto an edge. The encasing cracks and Dante breaks free dashes at high speeds with the sword pointing onto the knight only to stop himself right as the blade is an inch away from Kaeya's neck. Dante chuckles, "Checkmate". Kaeya looked surprised again but quickly fades back to his cool demeanor as he draws his sword."That settles the matter, it's up to you if you want to join now or later" Kaeya says.
"But I wanted to see Uncle Dante's mini hand bombs... aw". Klee says in a very upset dejected tone. "Hand bombs?" Dante asks confused by what she meant. "She meant those things that made that loud booming noise." Kaeya clarifies to the man. "Kids aren't supposed to touch these you know?" Dante crouches down, patting the little girl.
"I'll show you something cooler that has more BOOM later". He makes a heart shape using both of his hands. Klee smiles and is delighted to see what's next. "Feel free to go to our offices if you want to actually join us". Kaeya says to the man. "I'll take a little look-see here for now". Dante replies, walking into the gate and into Mondstat, the city of freedom. "Uncle Dante wait!" Klee follows him as he is wandering around the city.
