Note:
Hello! This story was (and still is) posted to Archive of Our Own. If you saw it there before, than yes, I am the one writing it on both sites.
Second of all, this will from time to time contain song lyrics, sometimes changes, some translated from other languages.
This time, it's a slightly changed version of the song "Every Time the Rain Comes Down" by Anne Blue.
Enjoy and let me know what you think!
If anybody was to ask All Might if there was any time of the year he disliked, he would give you a short lecture on how great all the different times and weather conditions are. Sunny days are great for spending time outside, rainy days are important to fill water reserves and water the world, snow covers the world is a fresh clean blanket. You can go to the beach in the summer and enjoy all the ice cream in the world, fall colors fill you with nostalgia and memories of before bedtime time fairy-tales. Winter is a slow season to stay home and cuddle with a loved one. Spring is a lovely time when the whole world comes to life.
If you were to ask Toshinori Yagi, he would probably tell you he does not like the cold rainy days very much. Looking at how skinny he is, it is simple to see why. Most people would think he gets cold quickly and after hearing him cough, will add his poor health to the bundle. He would never correct them. He would never admit that those rainy days cause his old injuries to ache and when he sits down on his own, the memories would start coming. With the memories, come the questions that he can never answer. All Might is the most cheerful and optimistic person in the world according to the common belief but on rainy days, when others can't see, the things that haunt the number one hero come out to swallow him whole as he listens to the radio.
~Every time the rain comes down~
~You know that there'll be no one around~
It was autumn and the day was not going well. Starting with it being colder than normally, Yagi's old scars were reminding him they were indeed still there from before sunrise. With the way his body felt, he was unable to bring himself to eat anything decent without his stomach showing it's protest. Then there was the heavy fog covering the already gloomy morning with a dull milky and grey heavy blanket. Thankfully, it's the city and the fog does not stay for long. As the world wakes up, the movement of people and vehicles would stir the air and thin quickly out the fog until it was no more. Then clouds spread just enough to grant hope for a possibly not-so-bad day after all. False hope as he soon found out.
~You're fighting your demons~
~Your heart keeps on bleeding~
~You're feeling so close to the edge~
~(Don't jump)~
As much as he loved his work, he was unable to be everywhere at all times. While he dealt with a minor incident, another one happened on the opposite side of town. Why did villains like this time of the year so much? It is unlikely he would ever find an answer to this question but he still wondered. Arriving at the new scene, he was able to maintain his trademark smile and bring himself to declare his catch phrase. He took care of it but… He was late. Somebody was already hurt and so "It's fine now. Why? Because I am here!" was only partially true. There was an eldery man whose arm was crushed and broken. He knew the medics and doctor's would fix it but considering the man's age, will it be the same as before that day? He could never know and he would look it up later for the fear that no, the damage will linger, making an already not simple life even harder.
~You're losing your temper~
~You want to surrender~
~You're standing right there on the ledge~
~(Come back)
Then at noon the clouds came back together and the wind picked up. First it was only a light wail reminding him of the voices of the crying people from the earlier events. Then it got stronger ripping or crimson colored leaves from the trees and lifting up those that were on the ground. It was dust, and the scene Yagi watched from his windom, overwatching a small park, made him think not of the kids playing in the piles of leaves but of the world ablaze. The red tinted sky and the leaves colored orange and red made it look like a large fire with it's spark going up and threatening to spread further to the nearby buildings.
~You will go lonely into this fight~
~If you just hold on you will survive~
~Every time the rain comes down~
~There's gonna be no one around~
As the darkness came along, the rain started. The lines of water running down the glass where his thin face was reflecting, made it look like they were tears running down. Tears he swore to never shed but the world did it for him. The sound of the drops hitting the ground was like static. The white noise of when his communication device was still working but there was dead silence from the other line indicating things have gone horribly wrong. Then there was the explosion of light and the sound of thunder. The sound of a loud heartbeat and the exchange of blows. The sounds of all of the fights his been through. The way the worst of them would end like, when his "smash" would change the weather.
~All your tears are in vain~
~And it drives you insane~
~And nobody knows when you cry~
~(You hide yourself)~
He knew, back then he had no choice. It had to be done but it still haunted him. All the people who were hurt, all those who were lost. Those he was unable to save. At the beginning he was trying to learn who they were, to remember them. Then he became smarter. The faces he knew haunted him in his nightmares and at his weakest moment. If he was to remember them all, he was not sure he would stay sane. The times he changed the weather were the worst of his fight. Where he was pushed to the edge giving all his got to save was still there.
~Deep inside there's a riot~
~You can feel that you're tires~
~You don't wanna live a lie~
~(Who is there for you?)~
~Every time the rain comes down~
He still had regrets.
