I look around the yard, pleased with the work I've done. It looks fucking awesome, and my plants are taking to the new space well.
I've built a few raised planter beds and overhauled a good portion of the dirt perimeter of the yard, planting a host of veggies and herbs.
No one in the house really cares all that much about plants, not like I do, but I don't care. They'll be grateful I'm growing veggies if this pandemic keeps up.
And if it doesn't, some homegrown produce never hurt anyone.
The yard is nearly done; the only open spot left is a single garden bed I have reserved. There are a few things I want to grow, and I consider the pros and cons of them, but I'm just not sure yet. I have set sections of veggies, herbs, and medicinal plants, but I want something special in this last box.
I'm just not quite sure what.
The back door opens, and I glance up to see Jasper stepping outside, stretching his arms. "Damn, it's a nice day," he groans. I nod, glancing up at him.
"Yeah, it is," I say, eyeing the perfect blue sky. He looks at me.
"How's it going?"
I shrug, looking around the yard. "Fine. I'm nearly done with everything. I just have one planter box left, but I'm not sure what to grow."
Bella's passing by the back door, and she pops her head out, squinting in the bright midmorning light. "Grow some weed," she suggests. I laugh, considering it. No one smokes it all that often, at least not usually, though we've all been known to partake. I wouldn't grow it for recreational uses, though. There are a ton of medicinal uses that interest me more.
Before I can bring up the pros and cons to Bella, she's stepping back inside, and I shake my head. Jasper shrugs.
"That's one suggestion," he muses. I snort.
"Yard's not secure enough," I say, shooting it down. Jasper nods in agreement.
"Well, I trust you'll figure something out," Jasper says, moving back toward the door. I nod as he steps back inside.
The yard is a great project for me, one that's been keeping me sane. I love the challenge of growing things, understanding the plants. Some days, I feel like it's the only thing keeping me sane.
In California I'm not actually sure it's legal to grow in your yard, but I don't know that anyone cares. At least, no one I've known, lol.
That being said, I couldn't imagine this group high. What a mess they'd all be!
