January 5th

William's Point of View

"will you help me?"

I had said yes and he gave me a list of things to find. A lot of the ingredients were rare, even at Hogwarts, but I had agreed to help and so I would. I looked at the one he needed first, unicorn hair. From what Hagrid tells me they usually leave their hair when it gets tangled on branches. He uses them for helping wounded animals since they work well to secure the wound. This gave me a choice, I could ask Hagrid for some, or look for some in the forbidden forest.

I was actually surprised this was on the list. Flamel definitely could have asked Hagrid for some. Of course, he only came to Hogwarts this year and probably didn't interact with Hagrid as much as I did; so I could see why he didn't know about it. I decided asking Hagrid for some was the best course of action, since it was a school rule that we couldn't be there. At least not without teacher permission and supervision, so with that I started on the path to Hagrid's hut.

He should be there it was a Tuesday, so I would actually be going here anyway, what can I say I have a thirst for knowledge. Knocking on the door, I heard some shuffling on the inside. Hagrid probably hadn't expected me as early as this. The door opened and I saw Hagrid with a burning beard before I could say anything he patted out the fire completely, "Sorry' I didn' think yud be here this early. I jus finished gettin' everything ready." Same old Hagrid.

He was cheerful, that much was certain, it was actually quite contagious. "wha' yo doin' standin there? Come o' in." Smiling, I stepped into the hut after him. It was big from my perspective. Of course, to him it was a big enough space to live in. I did feel kind of bad for him, I mean Voldemort was the reason he was like this instead of choosing whatever job he wanted.

"Come on sit down." I did and I saw that he had prepared some of his cooking. It was actually quite good if you didn't mind the chance you may break your teeth. Something I really didn't have to worry about since vampire teeth are one of the strongest things on earth, "So' how's your day's been goin'?" Taking a rock cake I started explaining what I was learning and how my day went. I also added in some of my break and he told me about his time after the last time we met up.

It had been maybe thirty minutes of catching up before he asked me what I wanted to do today. Usually, I asked to see the thestrals, even though I couldn't actually see them. After a while you start noticing where they are even if you can't see them, "I actually was wondering if you could help me with something." I took out the list while he said, "o' course wha is it?" I gave him the list. It had the ingredients necessary, and the day professor Flamel needed them.

"Remember when I said I started getting some potion lessons from professor Flamel?" He nodded still reading over the list, "Well, he has a potion he's brewing, but some of the ingredients are rare. I was hoping you could help me find them." He finally looked up from it scratching his head he said, "Well, some' o these I know exactly where they are. I have some o' them in here." I took that as inside the hut, "o' course fluxweed you have ta ask sprout abou'." That was pretty sensible. She is the herbologist professor. Though I was surprised I hadn't thought of this myself.

"Since yah need the unicorn hair today. I can give ya some to take with ya to Flamel." That was a relief, the potion he was making seemed complex, so I didn't want to put back his progress of who knows how long, "Yah know? I can teach yah how ta find some' today." That sounded pretty fun, "Sure."

Since we figured out what we were going to do today we headed out into the forest, "Okay' I know yah have a good nose'. I usually use fang' when I do this." It made me laugh slightly, I was sort of going to be the bloodhound this time. Hagrid did take fang out of the hut with him though. I guess you're going to be learning from a dog today. I just sighed mentally. A quick check of the bond told me she found my predicament amusing.

"Now watch him closely' now." I did, he was sniffing the ground. From my sense of smell, I could tell there had been a few animals to come this way, but mostly Hagrid's and fangs scent was there masking them. Suddenly. he stopped sniffing and howled, "He smell's some' o' the unicorns that come' here." I tried to focus for a unicorn scent. I knew what they smelled like from one of my lessons. If I focused really closely, I could smell what fang smelled. It was perhaps a month old, so I guess that's why I didn't catch it the first time.

"I think I know where it went. That direction." I pointed west. Hagrid looked at fang and he nodded, at least that's what it looked like, I didn't know many dog mannerisms besides wagging-tail-happy, "Fang think's your righ'." We started to walk the way fang was going. I tried to hone on the unicorn scent though, since obviously this was something I should be doing. It was the first time I had to find anything with scent that wasn't recently left. I guess I should ask Demetri a few tips the next time I saw him.
