Chapter 1
Bright white-hot stars twinkles up the darkening sky, winking down upon the lustful streets of Paris, and the citizens of Paris none the wiser do not know what walks among them. Tom Dupain-Cheng keeps his head down, holding tightly onto his nine-year-old daughter Marinette's hand, as they come upon an intimidating mansion with a gate opening for their arrival.
"Do we have to go in there, dad?" Marinette questions wearily when they finally get themselves onto the withering porch.
Tom bends down to Marinette's level, putting a lock of her ravenette hair behind her ear. He smiles at her indulgently, but then his smile turns into a full-on seriousness frown.
"Listen to me, my ladybug. The people you are about to meet are some old friends of mine, and they want to meet you. However, I'm hoping this will be the last we see of them, and I need you to be quiet. Sweetie, remember what I told you, if I tell you to run. You run, understand?" Tom finishes looking at his daughter intensely, which Marinette eagerly nods in understanding beyond her years.
Tom takes a deep breath, even though he doesn't need to because he's immortal. Tom briskly knocks on the red French doors before Nathalie opens it on the other side. Tom remembers Nathalie very well, since her cold indifference isn't hard to forget. Tom forms a grimace towards her, even though Nathalie lifts her eyebrow for some response.
"Monsieur Dupain, I see you brought the child. Please do come in, since Monsieur Agreste and Madame Agreste are expecting you." Nathalie informs cordially before beckoning them to follow her.
They walk the long, labyrinth hallways inside the Agreste manor. The curious Marinette looks up at the high ceilings; seeing a dozen lit candles in different crystal chandeliers. They kind of remind of Marinette from the Disney movie- Beauty and the beast, where Belle and the beast dance in the huge ballroom.
"Does Princess Belle live here?" Marinette asks without thinking, hearing another child-like laughter somewhere in the shadows.
Marinette blushes in shame for talking her thoughts out loud, since her dad says to be quiet at all times. Luckily, her dad lets out a weak chuckle, which makes Marinette feel better. Marinette notices the black-haired lady twitches her lips, but doesn't say anything either. In fact, Natahlie's attention is now on the little prince in the shadows, and she hopes Adrien doesn't make an appearance. Finally they reach their destination, making them stop at the door.
Nathalie turns towards them, "The child must wait outside for a bit, so please come in first. Don't worry, she will be safe out here for a bit," Nathalie reassures Tom before he protests, even though he doesn't feel comfortable leaving his daughter alone.
Nathalie already walks into the muffling office while Tom puts Marinette down on a chaise by the doors. Tom kisses her on the forehead, then walks into the office with high trepitation.
On the other hand, Marinette leans herself back on her chair tiredly. She's not sure what her dad has to talk to his friends about, since he won't tell her because it's grown-up business. Maybe it has to do with vampire business, since her daddy is one. Marinette can instinctively tell they're vampires, just by how their mannerisms are from her dad. She's hoping her dad's vampire friends will hang with him more, since she knows her dad gets lonely in the basement during the daylight.
Marinette is human like her mother, and she knows a lot of her family don't like that. She may be young, but she picks up on things that other children don't. Sometimes, she feels isolation from her other peers, since she's different from them already. In fact, she has to take yucky medicine, which limits her with doing activities with her other peers at times. Her mother tells her that the medicine keeps her other side in control, so she can live a normal life like walk in the sun and be like her human peers.
Although, she does wonder what it will be like to be a vampire?
"Meow!" Marinette's head jerks up, then she almost squeals loudly by a cute black cat rubbing against her boots.
"Aren't you adorable!" Marinette declares with a smile, then quickly looks into her pocket for any food.
She smiles in triumph for finding some cheese in her pocket, which she has in her pocket from making cheese danishes earlier. Slowly bending down, not wanting to spook the kitty. She offers the kitty a little bit of cheese, thinking he might won't take it, and then finds herself in shock by the cat devouring the cheese like a starving animal.
"I guess you really like cheese," Marinette states with a giggle, but then her giggle halts by oncoming footsteps coming towards her.
"Plagg likes cheese, they're his favorite!" A blonde boy who looks about her age proclaims proudly, making herself look up at him and then meets his gentle green eyes.
"Is he yours?" Marinette asks curiously, even though her father always tells her to be careful with strangers… especially potential vampires. The boy smiles at her jubilantly, nodding in utter excitement.
"Yep, I found him one day at night. I'm not really allowed to go outside much, but I couldn't leave the poor guy alone out there. I beckoned him to follow me with some cheese that I found, and the rest is history!" The boy explains before beckoning the cat towards him now.
Marinette smiles at the cute action before frowning at the poor boy not being available to go out much. She slowly stands up and hesitantly walks towards the boy she feels herself drawing into.
"My father is really strict, but I do love him a lot. I just know he worries about me a lot, and my mom tries to keep him from going to overboard. It's just lonely you know, since Plagg is really my only friend I really have here." The blonde boy admits sadly, making Marinette resolve something within her.
Marinette puts her hand out in front of the boy, making him blink in confusion. She smiles at his bewilderment, and then he slowly clasps his hand into hers.
"My name is Marinette Dupain-Cheng, I would really like to be your friend. If you would like to be?" Marinette questions the last part, but then smiles brightly when he tightens her hand with his hand.
"Marinette, that's a pretty name, it's even pretty like a princess name. My name is Adrien, would you like to play in my mother's greenhouse, Marinette?" Adrien inquires hopefully, liking the pretty blush on her cheeks.
Marinette almost wants to decline, since she doesn't want to make her daddy worry. However, they probably won't be gone that long, and she knows how grown-up conversations can take a long time. Slowly, Marinette nods her head and Adrien leads her to his mother's greenhouse.
(Inside the office)
"It's been a long time, Tom. I want to say almost nine years or so, even though within years we shouldn't really concern ourselves." Gabriel converse while pouring a glass of blood for Tom from his desk.
Gabriel smirks at Tom's hungry look at the glass, yet Tom controls himself from devouring the fine glass of blood by taking small sips.
"You know, Tom. Both you and I used to enjoy a good glass of good blood, especially the ones at your facade bakery I used to help profit. However, it's quite a pity that you decide to lay with a human, a huntress no less who kills our own kind. I daresay, it is still a shame you're no longer part of our community." Gabriel piques casually, even though there's so much venom in his words.
Tom controls himself from fighting back, knowing that Gabriel is just bating him like always. Tom sees Nathalie leaning forward against the door, knowing she will jump in a heartbeat if their clan leader is going to get attacked. Tom has not come here to fight, which thankfully Gabriel's kind wife Emilie seems to pick up on.
"Gabriel, my dear. We have no qualms with the Dupain-Chengs, so quit putting your words in a petty passive conversation. Tom, you know we didn't have the choice for you to cut ties with our community, but maybe we can recede that. As what I have gathered, there's not very much of any hunters left, since it's a really small clan now. For now, all that matters is your child, Marinette, correct." Tom nods, which Emilie smiles lovingly at the name Marinette.
"I see, is Marinette one of us then? As you know, a hybrid child is almost extremely rare, since no human and vampire can conceive a child. In fact, not even between vampires can also conceive as well, except for me and my husband because of our bloodline. However, miraculously somehow, you and your wife did by her huntress bloodline. As any parent, especially me being a mother myself. You do know your child could benefit us fully with our protection." Emilie persuades hopefully, worrying dearly for this hybrid child.
Tom shook his head, even though he admires Emilie's words and respects her as a leader. However, Tom doesn't trust Gabriel, so he knows it will be futile in the end.
"I appreciate your insightful words dearly, Madame Emilie, but I'm afraid that I will have to decline. My wife has already turned her back on her small clan, and I shall as well. My daughter is showing no signs of her vampirism. In fact, I believe it's best for her to live a normal life, and let herself be obscured by this community and hunters as well." Tom finished his glass not even waiting for a reply, but he found himself frozen in place.
Of course, all vampires can hypnotize among mortels. However, with other vampires that won't work, yet the Agreste bloodline is the exception. What's even worse, some vampires can attain or heighten a special gift. For instance, Gabriel can flick upon realistic illusions full of pain or relaxation with just a glance. Tom can feel a pinch of pain through his temples, even though what he's seeing isn't real.
"You think your child shall be safe, you're a fool Dupain. Lowering yourself and your child as mortels, is throwing yourselves as cattle. Mark my words Dupain, you will be on your knees by begging to come back and join this community again." Tom can hear Gabriel's words vibrate through the illusion pain, and finally Gabriel breaks him from his stupor.
"Bring in Marinette, Nathalie," Emilie orders gently while sending her husband a glare for his inconsiderate behavior. Emilie slowly approaches Tom, offering him some blood to help him regain his strength, and a small apology for her husband's pig-headed behavior out loud.
When Nathalie opens the doors, she discovers that the little ravenette girl in pig-tails isn't there. Nathalie informs of her observation, which makes Tom go into full-on vampire mode.
Everyone is thinking, where can that little girl run off to?
XOX
Children's laughter echoes throughout the greenhouse, which is the result of two children playing hiding go seek. Marinette finds herself in awe of the garden; blooming with honey suckles, roses, and her favourite flower lilacs. She leans against a bush full of pretty red roses, making herself breath in the sweet fragrance like her mother's perfume. Covering her mouth with another giggle, since she does not want Adrien to find her just yet and can hear him approaching her hiding spot. However, she feels her finger poking on the thorn of the rose, which makes her finger start to bleed. Suddenly, she hears a growl loudly next to her ear, making her slightly turn to see Adrien's pupils blown widely.
Marinette feels stupid for cutting her finger, since she tries to avoid any injuries in front of her father.
Adrien is a vampire alright, and he is staring at her finger like a tasty lollipop.
Marinette's father tells her to never lick off her wound, even though her school nurse says saliva is a good way to attain the infection. For some reason, she feels like there's no other choice but to lick off her wound, so she hesitantly does. She expects to taste a coppery taste, but feels like she's tasting a cherry popsicle. She grins at the deliciousness, without even realizing that she's offering her bloody finger to Adrien. He slowly licks off the edges off her finger, which instantly heals right away.
Adrien hears stories about how one can find one's Amortentia through taste. Adrien is not really sure what Amortentia entitles, but something about when a vampire decides they will stay together forever. Adrien looks up at Marinette dazzling blue bells eyes, which reminds him of the Seine river at night.
"Can we stay and play together forever here," Adrien asks, even though he knows that what he's asking is childish, but the younger part of him wants it deeply.
Marinette snaps herself out of her strange daze, not even pondering about the taste of her blood. For the first time, hanging out with Adrien, it's the first time she can ever be herself. For some reason, she feels like if she leaves Adrien, something is telling she will leave a part of her behind.
"Yeah, I think we can. We have shelter, the ceiling will hide you from the sun, we have water, and I can grow things here for food. It will actually be very fun, almost like going camping, and we can even make a fort full of flowers!" She yells excitedly while looking at different prospects of flowers.
"You human necessities are so weird," Adrien makes a comment teasingly, which makes the ravenette laugh.
Earlier, Adrien says that he meets some human children here and there, yet he says humans still confuse him. Before they start playing hide and seek, Marinette asks questions about vampires, since she doesn't want to ask her father about some things. Adrien, on the other hand, can't be forthcoming that he's a vampire to mortals. Leaving the poor boy flustering with missing cues about the life of mortals. They both balance each other out, making themselves a bit more informative about each other with their heritage.
"If you just became a vampire, we only need each other's blood to survive," Adrien says, which makes Marinette pause for a moment.
"I wouldn't mind being a vampire, but I would sure miss the sun on my face. Also, my parents want me to stay mortal, and my dad said being a vampire is not what it's cracked up to be." Marinette replies, even though this is her first time considering becoming a vampire.
"Besides, living forever, don't you think that will be very lonely?" Marinette questions out of blue, and then feeling Adrien put his hand on her shoulder.
"If we have each other, it probably won't be so bad, and we would cause so much mischief," Adrien answers her, which makes Marinette smile appreciatively.
"If it's with you and my family, yeah, eternity won't be so bad. Just think by the different video games we would be introduced to throughout the years, we can be the legends as video game players!" Marinette exclaims excitedly, even though Adrien is still bad at video games, but if he has Marinette then he could definitely become a champion.
"Let's make a pack then," Adrien says, which makes Marinette give him questioning eyes.
Adrien explains a rare blood pact promise, which holds great deal in the vampire community. They both prick their fingers, letting their blood drip on the other's hand, and then they dab the other person's blood and lick it off the other's finger.
After all that, they both make a promise, not knowing the serious consequence of what they're doing.
"I solemnly swear, we will both be each other's Amortentia, and bind each as a sacred promise."
They both proclaim to each other with smiles, even though Marinette doesn't know what Amortentia means, she feels like it's the right thing to say. In fact, she feels even more sure when she feels a giddy warmness inside of her. Suddenly, they find themselves tugging away from each other, and she finds herself screaming.
Her father carries her over his shoulder, which she bangs on her tiny fists on him. He ignores Marinette's complaints, even though she's crying hysterically. Adrien is not doing so much better, since he's almost overpowering his father's restraint, and Gabriel is the king of vampires.
Emilie looks on worryingly, since she is at the greenhouse before any of them. She knows what a blood pact looks like; the last one she can remember seeing a blood pact, is probably her own. The Agreste bloodline is a special case, since they have a better sense of what will be a good potential mate for them. Looks like her son sees Marinette as his, and Marinette sees Adrien as hers as well. She knows they're not ready yet, even though her gift is reading a person's aura. For her very long life, she's never seen such a strong bond between two people before. Green is her son's color and red is Marinette's. Their aura colors blend together like a colorful match like a rainbow.
It's simply miraculous.
Emilie then sees in horror how Tom is hypnotizing Marinette to forget the encounter with Adrien Agreste. Marinette goes limp in his arms and is now holding her bridal style. Emilie holds in her mourn by how the green is desperately looking for the red aura, but is then becoming frail for the red aura not responding to it.
"What do you think you are doing?" Emilie hisses loudly, seeing how her son is going limp in despair in her husband's arms.
"What am I doing, making sure my daughter has nothing to do with this community again. Like I said, I'm wiping my hands clean, and it's better for my daughter to forget this encounter in the long run." With that, Tom leaves the greenhouse with vampire speed, and disappears without a trace.
Emilie is the only one who knows about the children doing the blood pact. Right then and there, she has to make a decision. She knows the girl Marinette is half human, so she can potentially forget Adrien for a little while. However, if Marinette starts embracing her vampire side, her memories will come back slowly and she will be ready. Even with the memory lost, Emilie knows the bond will find a way for the children to reconcile, even without them realizing. Emilie has to make a hard decision for letting her son forget too, since Adrien is still not old enough to block his mind from being hypnotized by their bloodline. With a heavy heart, she erases the encounter of Marinette from him, and saying how he will remember more when Marientte embraces her vampire side.
"Maybe it's best he forgets the girl, since she will most likely follow in her father's idiotic footsteps," Gabriel comments while Emilie brushes Adrien's hair back affectionately. Gabriel is oblivious to the blood pact, but he does know she erases their son's memories with a mental command.
"Maybe, but you know how children can be miraculously rebellious," Emilie replies with a smile, not knowing how right her mother's intuition is.
