Shirou decided to be the opener of the fight against Nanna by projecting Vajira into his hand, remembering everything that Nanna did with his body, every projection included, and made full use of that new knowledge by accessing new sets of weapons. He readied a few arrows and fired them all at Nanna, using Vajira's empowerment to coat each Arrow with a Mana Burst (Flame) attibute, causing them all to explore in large fires upon contact with the target. Nanna appeared unphased by the explosions once the last one subsided, just smirking at Shirou with his arms still crossed over his chest, so Shirou prepared stronger arrows. However, when he blinked, Nanna was suddenly gone and stood right next to him, preparing an uppercut with his right arm. Shirou immediately tossed the bow aside and responded by punching Nanna's incoming fist, which exerted a strong, explosive surge into Shirou's fist and arm, wounding it with minor cuts. Nanna then reached with his left hand for Shirou, who blocked by rising his right arm up for defence and got his wrist gripped in the process. Nanna used that grip, opening his right fist to grab at Shirou's left one and then twirled around his own axis twice, building momentum to toss Shirou into a direction. After that, Nanna disappeared and re-appeared right within Shirou's flight path, both fists ready for a dual punch. Shirou caught himself mid-air and shifted himself so that he would dodge the dual punch and instead catch Nanna's wrists, responding by using the momentum of his toss to lift the God off-ground and slam him face-first back into it before rolling away.
As Shirou was rolling away before he got up on his feet, Nanna stood back up from the ground and spat on it before he chuckled out. Shirou projected Kanshou and Bakuya as Handguns and aimed at the deity, pulling the trigger as fast as he could on repeat. Nanna just moved his left hand forward, moving it so fast that he caught every bullet individually, letting them drop harmlessly on the ground before him. So Shirou responded by materializing several Kanshou and Bakuya handguns, which hovered at various distances above or next to him, and they all began to fire simultaneously as he did, releasing 4x the amount of bullets as before on his enemy, yet Nanna still caught them all with fair ease. Shirou then started aiming elsewhere with the Bakuya Handgun in his right hand, missing Nanna by quite a large distance.
"What's wrong? Losing your aim alre-GAH!" Nanna tried to taunt, but got interrupted by a bullet suddenly piercing his shoulder from behind. He turned his head for a moment, but saw nothing.
Shirou fired with Bakuya into a seemingly random direction again, and as before, the bullet hit Nanna in his back.
"What is going on? How is he-" Nanna thought, but as he turned again, this time he saw something. A faint glimmer of pink that was dissolving itself. He turned his eyes back forward to Shirou and started to smirk again. "Well well... now that's smart." Nanna responded before he clapped his hands together and sent out a large energy-Nova from his body outwards, engulfing everything in an attempt to attack Shirou with it, who leapt backwards to try and avoid it.
Shirou dropped the Kanshou and Bakuya handguns and materialized a longbow again, this time a different one. It was a recurve-bow with golden colour-ornaments along its length, but appeared deceptively normal from first glance. Shirou readied an arrow on it and fired up into the sky, to which the Arrow began to glow brightly before it suddenly blew apart, causing a lot of arrows to rain down from above. Nanna crossed his hands over one another, palms facing upwards, and as he did so, he became surrounded by a structure of grey energy forming like a barrier, absorbing all the arrows raining onto him. While the rain of arrows kept coming down, Shirou readied another arrow on his bow and fired it, missing Nanna by quite a bit. Nanna assumed that Shirou was going to do what he did with the bullets again, so while inside of his barrier, he turned to trace the Arrow and saw what he suspected. Shirou was creating small Rho Aias along the flight path, using it as deflectors to change the direction his projectoles flew by, like mirrows reflecting light at angles, making the Arrow corner in its flight to attack Nanna from his side, but was also blocked by the barrier.
Once the arrow-rain stopped, Nanna dropped the barrier and chuckled slightly. "Using Rho Aias to change the trajectory of arrows and bullets? Smart. You at least learned some of my creativity."
Shirou just stayed silent, but gave a light smug expression to just let Nanna know that he approved of the compliment. He let the bow dissolve itself before he then began to project something else. It was a staff, but a very heavily ornamented one. Its main body was read and both ends were decorated with golden dragon heads, maws open to leave a small U-opening. The Staff had various drawings on it, some depicting a dragon, some a tiger, some the buddha and some were of other animals. Once the Projection was finished, Shirou took a stance with the staff aimed with one tip at Nanna.
"Well... that is interesting." Nanna said before he side-stepped to dodge the staff, which expanded towards him at a very fast pace, almost puncturing his chest. Then, he had to leap up to dodge its second expansion towards him, and after that, when he landed, he did a forward flip before dashing towards Shirou while going zig-zag to avoid the staff's continuous expansion of its tip so he doesn't get a hole drilled into himself by it. Once within close-range, Shirou retracted the Staff, twirling it before slamming one end to the ground, then used it like a pole to twist himself and fly-kick Nanna back with some support. Nanna however recovered seemingly unphased, dusting his chest off before he pointed at Shirou. "You surprised me before, but now you're making me curious. I scoured all your memories, you have never seen Ruyi Jingu Bang before. Means you couldn't have just projected it out of thin air."
"And what if I can?" Shirou said before he quickly tossed the staff up, then projected another bow into his hand, this one appearing mostly red, with some orange ornaments, particularily three pairs of needles sticking out only the top segment, looking almost like whiskers. Shirou then let the Staff expand from above and rain down on Nanna, who dodged it while going backwards to get distance between him and Shirou, before said redhead then released a special arrow that glowed in a mixture of golden and orange, flaring Mana in a large radius around itself, appearing almost as thick as a human head once fired. When he did, the Arrow seemed to sporatically zig-zag in the air, changing its trajectory several times per second. This only went on for the first half of its trajectory before it suddenly disappeared from view and hit Nanna straight to the chest. The Sumer Deity managed to move just in time for the arrow to miss the heart and hit his shoulder instead, but when it did, it stopped for a second before suddenly soaring through him like a drill, causing a large hole in Nanna's left shoulder, followed by him gritting his teeth and groaning in pain.
"I always relied on just projecting things by memory or sight." Shirou began to monologue before he projected Gae Bolg as his next projectile to fire, readying the bow. "But, if there's one thing that being merged with you taught me, it's that I shouldn't just rely on memories. So I have decided to try and project things by thought. Imaginary composition. Means I can't make any divine constructs I don't know, but I can make non-divine knock offs just powerful enough to take you down. They might not look like the actual item, but they are strong all the same, all I have to know is the source of their mythology. Their Mystery."
Nanna got back up on his feet and placed his right hand over his gaping left shoulder. It started to make some ugly crunching noises for a moment, and when he removed his hand, the wound was completely healed without a trace. "Your knowledge is very limited. You only know of a few mythologies you picked up on during your travels. Kodandam, Rama's bow, and the Arrow of Brahma, that you used just now, were two of them. You don't have a big list of things to try."
"Yeah well... we will see about that." Shirou commented, being uncharacteristically melancholic for a moment before he put the bow away for it to dissolve and he materialized a new weapon yet again. This time, it was the regular pair of Kanshou and Bakuya, formed one in each hand.
"This is incredible." Caules commented as he and the others were watching the fight so far. "His Magic Circuit Circulation is beyond amazing. His body is processing all the different variations of mana with little damaging effects!"
"Or he is really good at swallowing all the pain." Mordred commented rather desinterestedly as she crossed her arms out and observed. "He has been having slight twitches here and there. He's either supressing the pain or it is starting to kick in. Either way, it won't be long before it hinders his combat skill and puts him at a disadvantage."
"Probably..." Barthomeloi added while fixing her glasses again. "But I have faith in Kiritsugu's boy. Where Father failed, Son shall succeed."
"What? Am I hearing this right?" El-Melloi II commented with some sass in his voice. "Barthomeloi is respecting someone who doesn't have mastery over True Magic?"
"Who says he doesn't?" Barthomeloi sharply countered, giving Waver just a scoff before she continued. "The Root actually decided to materialize an avatar just to talk to him. We know that the universal concepts can pick sides and favorites. What says he won't come out of this even stronger, with more support?"
"He won't." Jeanne concluded as she stared ahead, watching the two clashing with one another again and again. "If the Root wanted him to be stronger, it wouldn't have given him just that. There's something more... but all we can do for now is wait and hope."
"I hate waiting." Roche commented, much to everyone's surprise as he's been the single most silent one so far. "So let's just delude ourselves into thinking he can hear us and cheer him on, aight?"
Everyone stared in surprise for a second before they started to nod, one after the other, until agreement was fully collective.
Shirou and Nanna were meanwhile struggling against each others. Shirou had Kanshou in a backhand grip, pressing it down from above to try and stab Nanna's head in while the Sumer Deity used both arms to block by crossing them over one another against the redhead's wrist, pressing up to prevent him from getting closer. Since he got nowhere by force, Nanna decided to release a small nova of energy, enough to stagger Shirou backwards and disarm him. Next, Nanna rotated around his axis clockwise to aim a swinging knee-kick into Shirou, who blocked it by lifting his arms up and stopping the leg with both palms pressing into it. Nanna immediately retracted his leg and turned counter-clockwise, preparing a sideways heelkick, which Shirou blocked by crossing both arms over his chest, catching it with his elbows. However, Nanna then shot another nova through his foot, sending Shirou flying back and wounding him slightly at his abdomen.
As Shirou was rolling back about 30 meters, Nanna clapped his hands twice, and many concentrated balls of energy assembled above and next to him. Then, those balls suddenly stretched themselves until they were shaped like pointy ovals, which then began to fly towards Shirou, one after the other. Shirou sidestepped the first two towards the left, then rolled to the right to dodge three more, then ducked for another evasion. The last few, however, he could not dodge and they collided with his abdomen, each releasing its energy like an explosion, causing Shirou great pain and tossing him back even further, visibly bruising his naked chest in the process.
While Shirou was flung back even further, Nanna prepared a very large energy-ball above him, holding it with his index-finger. When Shirou recovered, got back up on his feet and glanced ahead, Nanna threw the ball at Shirou, who balled his fists and ran at it, gritting his teeth before he leapt up to intercept the ball and started to punch the hell out of it, hitting it as hard as he could each time until the 26th punch, to which the ball dissolved due to its energy being destablized. When it did, Shirou fell back to ground and raced at his enemy, who took a broad stance and reached his right arm back for a hook while Shirou did the same mid-sprint. When the gap was closed, both swung their fists forward, but Shirou's was a tad faster, and thus connected first, throwing Nanna off so much he missed his swing. Shirou put his full power behind the swing, sending Nanna flying almost 200 meters.
"You're not escaping!" Shirou roared before he dashed at full speed after Nanna, who just landed back on his feet and put his arms behind his back, looking very much unphased still. It was as if all those hits did nothing to him. Shirou growled out as he balled his right fist again, the mana in it concentrating to a point it became visible once more and Shirou connected the punch to Nanna's abdomen, but he barely flinched, just smirked smugly and stared ahead while Shirou was pushing onward with his fist, the mana in his arm surging to higher and higher levels every second. Then, a sudden surge of force, a sign that Shirou's power increased drastically, shot from his fist, taking Nanna by slight surprise. Shirou just grit his teeth tighter and pushed his right foot forward for a stronger position and to use his physical strength from his upper body to increase the push, which worked and caused a second, similar surge. This one put Nanna out of his cocky attitude and he immediately shot both arms forward, the left one to Shirou's right, gripping at its wrist to try and pull it off, and Nanna's right hand literally slap-gripped Shirou's face, trying to push at it to get the redhead off.
Shirou didn't budge and re-positioned his left leg. The second he set it down, a third surge came, pushing Nanna slightly backwards. Shirou, now putting every ounce of power in that attack, roared out from the deepest depths of his lungs, and completed the swing, his fist pushing forward and throwing Nanna back about 2 meters. When it did, all the energy that was stored up in Shirou's fist released itself in a very broad beam-like Nova into the forward direction, spreading out like a cone, the full concentration hitting Nanna and causing him to be suspended within it as every cell of his body was being damaged by the attack, his skin cracking like broken stone all over, the raw release of energy shaking the entire plane they were on until it eventually subsided, almost 30 seconds later.
When it did, Nanna was lowered to ground slowly, stepping back a bit as he was struck by surprise. "What!?" He roared while inspecting his skin, feeling up his wrists and underarms, then his chest, neck and face. He then glanced forward at Shirou and suddenly had a worried expression. "IMPOSSIBLE!"
Shirou balled his fists again as he stepped forward, each step causing a light thud and shaking, almost as if he had enough weight/stomping force to create a quake with each move. Shirou stared at Nanna, pissed as all hell. "This ends now!"
"I can't believe it, he's doing it!" Rin cheered.
"Oh, Sherou!" Luvia just moaned in bliss, a touch too blissful for some of the people listening.
Jeanne made wide eyes and blushed furiously, seeing such sinful display. El-Melloi II just facepalmed and Barthomeloi fixed her glasses while making a very serious expression. She would reprimand Luvia for lewd behaviour later.
"Yeah, he is... but... He's not using his projections. Yet it feels like it." Semiramis said as she leaned forward slightly, careful not to drop Amakusa, who she was carrying like a bride. "All his mana is concentrated in a peculiar construction around his fists... it feels abnormal."
"Yeah..." Mordred agreed, a bit more interested this time. "But as long as he is winning, and doesn't die afterwards, we don't have to care."
"Damnit, Knight of Treachery." Semiramis interjected. "Your transformation has made you boringly apathic."
"I can celebrate and be myself all I want once we are out of here. Now shut up, they are engaging again."
Nanna balled his fists and slowly lowered his body, concentrating his physical strength before he leapt forward. Shirou pulled his right fist back and dashed forth as well, the two of them going for it yet again. Shirou's fist connected first, giving Nanna a mighty hook to his face, pushing him back. Nanna recovered from the stagger, setting his right foot down and pushing onward, hitting Shirou straight in his T-zone (The line on your face where your nose goes up and connects to the eyebrows), pushing Shirou back in return. Shirou took a step back, then lifted his right leg for a kick into Nanna's hips. Nanna took the hit, stepped to the right to absorb the impact force, then gave a left uppercut into Shirou's abdomen, then hit back with a left kneekick into Shirou's waist. Shirou gripped the leg after the hit, twirling Nanna around for two whole circles before slamming him on his back to the ground.
After Nanna hit the ground, he grunted for a second, then lifted his head to see Shirou was about to stompkick him, so he rolled out of the way, flicked Shirou's leg to take his footing, and tackled him to the ground for a choke. Shirou barely intercepted that by lifting his legs, wrapping his thighs around Nanna's neck as the Deity was gripping Shirou's throat, both of them choking one another out. However, Shirou had the advantage due to pressing into Nanna's arteries, compared to Nanna only taking Shirou's air, so the Deity had to drop the choking and give Shirou a harsh punch, once more into the T-zone, dazing the redhead for a second before Nanna leapt up into the air, aiming himself down at Shirou like a spear, hands clapped together and pointing forward, whole body forming a straight line. As Nanna came down, Shirou rolled away, making the Deity puncture the ground with a tiny crater to signify the force behind his attack. Shirou retaliated by punching the god's open gut, forcing him to roll back, then climbed ontop of Nanna, pinning the god's left shoulder down with his right foot and pressed his left knee into Nanna's abdomen to keep him down.
"Screw you, and screw your pile of schemes and plans!" Shirou cursed in an uncharacteristic fit of rage as he started to hail punches into Nanna's face, one after the other, hitting him such speed that it piled up to almost 4 hits per second. Nanna recovered fast, letting the punches happen as he only felt the uttermost minor pain from them. Then, when Shirou went for a strong hook, Nanna extended his own right arm, which was free, and gave Shirou a jab to the chin, causing the redhead to leap up to absorb the impact force, but also getting off Nanna and giving him freedom to move. Nanna empathised it by bucking his hips up to push Shirou further into the air, then gripped the redhead's shoulders to roll them around so that Nanna was ontop.
"You are just the latest in a long list of bastards in my way! And like everyone else on the list, you will just die, having done nothing!" Nanna responded as he repeated Shirou's earlier barrage and hailed down on the young man's face, punch after punch, damaging Shirou's jaw, breaking his nose, cutting the skin above his eyebrows to let blood sip into Shirou's eye and turn half his vision red, literally.
Shirou intercepted one of the punches by reaching for Nanna's face with his right hand, gripping it tightly and squeezing the god's skull, so Nanna repeated in kind, squeezing Shirou's skull. But Shirou's grip was physically much stronger, and so Nanna began to feel pain first while Shirou slowly pushed him back until he was on his feet again. Nanna lifted his left leg up for a harsh kneekick, making Shirou let go, then followed up with another kick to Shirou's ribs with his right leg. Shirou took the hit harshly, heading some of his ribs crack, suspecting at least one to be broken, but he didn't stop. He gripped Nanna's right leg at its ankle with his left hand and extended his right fost forward, giving Nanna a strong punch to the jaw, breaking it with an audible crack and sending the deity flying back.
Nanna landed on one knee, holding himself up by pressing against his legs with his arms, panting slightly before he got back up normally, then dashed once more into Shirou, but before they clashed, Nanna ducked down, then performed a backflip kick with both legs, shooting both heels up into Shirou's chin, causing him to be hit with so much force he was sent high into the air. Nanna leapt up with him to engage him and possibly regain the upper hand, but Shirou was prepared, as the moment Nanna got close, he changed his posture to rotate mid-air and hit Nanna with a frontflip-guillotine-kick, sending the Deity straight down to the ground again, before dropping after him and giving Nanna a dropping knee-kick with both legs, visibly sinking into the god's abdomen and rupturing something, based on a very dirty crunching sound. Nanna coughed up, blood coming out of his mouth while Shirou did an elegant backflip and retreated a few meters.
When Nanna got back up again, he spat some of the blood out of his mouth before he roared out and dashed forward yet again, aiming a left jab at Shirou. When Nanna's left fist went for Shirou's face, the redhead just inched his head forward, catching the fist with his face, causing all the force to be fired back into Nanna, and him to grunt out in pain, feeling several of his bones being broken, once more indicated by a set of ugly crunching noises and some cracking sounds. Shirou followed up with a left-fist uppercut to Nanna's jaw, sending him flying almost 10 meters. Before Nanna could collide with the ground, Shirou caught up and gripped Nanna's head, which was pointed down to hit the ground first, positioned his leg right below it and let Nanna's face hit Shirou's knee with terminal velocity, causing another set of ugly cracks. After that, Shirou almost mockingly kicked Nanna back, again in the face, making the god roll on the floor.
Nanna only got back up slowly this time, the injuries starting to have their toll on his human body. But as he did so, Mana was visibly concentrating itself within him, flares of grey and even some traces of black were showing up along his skin. "CURSE YOU, EMIYA SHIROU!" Nanna roared as he engaged one more time, extending his right fist with a large amount of concentrated power, connecting with Shirou's face, who awaited the punch unmovingly. The force behind the hit was much greater than any other hit Shirou took, and Nanna released a nova of energy through it once more, wounding Shirou's face with various cuts while making him stumble back a step. However, the Redhead's footing was stable and he didn't stagger back, leaving the fist resting against his face almost awkwardly before he reached for it with his own left hand, gripping the wrist very tightly and only increasing his grip strength over the seconds until he heard cracks, one after the other. Nanna lifted his right foot up to knee Shirou's abdomen to force him to let go, stumbling back while trying to raise his left arm in spite of the broken bones.
"I've never known such hatred until you came into my life!" Shirou started to say, his face distorted with anger to a point it was terrifying to watch. "I never would have had to go through what I did the last few days, were it not for you!" He continued and stretched his right arm back, winding up for a very powerful strike before extending his fist, giving Nanna an uppercut right into his diaphragm with such might that Nanna was sent into the air almost 100 meters high and over 200 meters far. Nanna was suspended in air for an extended amount of time before he finally started coming to ground. But before he connected with said ground, he received a flying kick in the face by Shirou, sending him rolling back at a high speed, right into one of those many boulders scattered around the landscape, and right through it. Just when Nanna finally came to a stop, laying on his back, Shirou dropped in with a stomping kick into the god's left leg, hitting it with such force that it was brutally ripped off of Nanna, and the shockwave from the powerful contact sent the Deity flying a few meters again while his leg went the other way until Shirou caught it mid-air, holding it by its ankle.
"You don't deserve anything but the most humiliating and painful death!" Shirou growled as he approached the Deity, who by now was severely struggling to get back up, partially due to only having one leg now, bleeding profusedly from the mutilated wound. Once Shirou closed the gap, he smacked Nanna with his own leg in the face, pushing him back to lay on the ground on his back, before Shirou started battering Nanna's head with his own leg, giving it about 10 hits before he tossed the leg away, lifting Nanna by his hair, watching his blood-coated, bruised face before he threw him back with a gut-punch, making Nanna fall back, but this time, he caught himself and remained standing on his one leg, seemingly unresponsive, his upper body waving circularily very slightly and slowly.
"Uh... isn't he going a bit too far?" Rin interjected, shaking slightly at the sight of just how furious Shirou seemed.
"He is..." Sieg noted, gulping heavily in the process. "The Root did say... his hatred makes him cruel and ruthless... he's not looking to end this fast. He wants to torture Nanna!"
"Then we need to stop him! Screw that this is our enemy, if Shirou does all this, he won't come back!" Rin then exclaimed as she turned to the redhead, only to be intercepted by El-Melloi II waving his arm before her to stop her. "What the- Why are you stopping me!?"
"Because, unless the Root lets us, we can't interfere with him. We may be in the same place, but we aren't in the same layer of space. We can't interact with him, nor he with us."
"Then it has to let us!" Luvia chimed in, getting an agreeing look from Rin. "ROOT!? ROOT, Where are you!?"
"Right here..." The Woman from before said, standing behind everyone else before she took a few steps forward to stand in front of the group, eyeing Shirou.
"You have to let us-" Rin started, but was stopped by the Root lifting her hand.
"No, I don't have to." She began, but started to smile slightly. "But, I do want to. If you really think he is going to go too far, then I won't stop you, but only one of you gets to intercept him."
"I will go!" Luvia immediately chimed in, stepping up to stand right in front of The Woman.
"I agree... she should go." Barthomeloi added, which was followed by a nod from El-Melloi II. Everyone else also seemed to show their agreement, so The Woman sighed and nodded.
"Very well." She responded before snapping her fingers.
"THIS IS YOUR END!" Shirou Roared as he balled his right fist again and was about to dash into Nanna, but halfway there, he suddenly saw Luvia run up between them, arms spread out and closing her eyes, ready for a potential impact.
But, when none came, she slowly opened her eyes and saw that Shirou stopped himself, his face just inches away from hers. He slowly backed away until he stood upright, eyeing her in surprise and shock.
"Wait... Sherou." Luvia said before moving her eyes together much like when someone prays, lowering her head again and shaking slightly. "Don't do it... he's defeated, he's already at death's door. You... you've done enough. Your anger and hate for him are turning you cruel, so please!" She begged, shooting her hands forward, holding his cheeks with one hand each and looked him in the eyes, tears flowing. "Please don't go down that path... you've won..."
Shirou gulped as he saw her like this. He lowered his head and nodded slightly, reaching his hands up to embrace her in a hug, one hand going up to the back of her head, pushing it very, very gently against his shoulders. "I won't, Luvia..." He spoke, but as he did, the hand holding her head started stroking her hair before resting on her neck. "I won't succumb to anger, which is why..." he continued before he lowered both hands to her waist to push her off carefully. "Which is why I will end it in one strike."
His response shocked Luvia, but she had no time to react, as he dashed right past her and towards Nanna, balling his fist and moving it before his face, almost like he was praying.
"SHEROU!" Luvia shouted as she turned around, reaching out for him physically even thought he was already way too far.
Shirou then retracted his right fist and roared out in full might before connecting it to Nanna's face. As he did so, the same Nova that first wounded Nanna started to be exerted again, the energy consuming them both, turning the entire world in a negative-shade from the inside. From Shirou's point of view, it was as if the entire sky was moving so fast that every star left a line, as if there was nothing but shooting stars passing by faster than a blink. As the energy-release was intensifying, Shirou's roar got louder, echoing through the plain. With each second, the nova seemed to speed up until eventually, from the outside view, the entire image became distorted, both Shirou and Nanna looking like a bad painting with how the air and light around them was distorted.
And then, the crack.
Shirou's fist went through Nanna's head, completely destroying the right part of it, having broken an almost perfect quarter off of it. Fore head, eye and cheekbones of that side were completely gone.
"GRRREEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" Nanna roared out for the entire moment, stumbling back a few steps while Mana was wildly flowing out of the wound inflicted, causing powerful ruptures and torrents to concentrate around him in a sphere.
Luvia noticed just how volatile the energy was and screamed as she tried to reach for Shirou. "SHEEEROOOUUU!"
And then, the energy released itself in an explosion of pure grey, englufing everything and blinding everyone.
Woo, chapter 18 is through.
