Chapter 27
It was early morning when Damon awoke. He lifted himself off the brown leather couch and frowned when his back began protesting. He really missed his luxurious and soft as a feather king sized bed back home. He glanced over towards Jeremy, who was on the opposite couch snoring happily away. The atmosphere from the previous night hadn't diminished in the slightest. Elena was clingy with Stefan. Stefan rebuked her advances while Caroline stared stonily ahead – pretending that they didn't exist.
On any other day Damon would of have been convinced that all three were on their monthly cycles at the same time but now that he knew the truth it was blatantly obvious that jealousy was the cause for all the uneasiness.
Stefan and Caroline? Who would of have shipped those pair? Damon frowned as he made his way across the room and down into the basement. Katherine was still lying passed out on the floor.
Damon seated himself on the basement steps. Perhaps Caroline and Stefan had bonded over their love of their hair? After all Stefan had his famous hero hairdo and Caroline had bouncy Goldilocks hair. Yes he was rather shocked at the paring but at the same time not. It kind of made sense in some-ways and none at the same time. Their sudden coupling obviously had not happened at the right time – They were in crisis at the moment and the only answers now lay with the bitch lying on the basement floors.
Katherine stirred and opened her eyes, relived that her pounding headache and searing eyeballs had retired overnight.
"The wicked wench arises from the witchy wrath of witches."
Katherine frowned at her surroundings before setting her eyes on Damon.
"I always hated that about you. You're a morning person." She grumbled her throat itchy and sore from hunger.
Damon could see the discomfort in Katherine's face. The tell – tale signs of hunger evident on her facial features. Her olive skin was paler and the veins around her eyes were swollen and red, pulsing with the need for blood. Luckily he had brought with him a blood bag; which he was carefully concealing behind his back.
"Well that explains why you were never there in the mornings after our dubious and rather vigorous session from the night before. All though I must confess you don't look too good in the morning." Damon spat out sarcastically.
"Did you really come down here to rehash the past? Because we both know which brother I loved and which one I merely toyed with."
Damon flinched at her words before composing himself. If he was going to interrogate the conniving bitch then he needed to have his poker face on. Any sign of emotional weakness would cause her to stray.
"The whole it's always going to be Stefan thing, right?" Damon replied.
"Precisely. You really have gotten smarter over the years haven't you? I'm assuming its morning and you've come to bring me some breakfast. A nice emo boy or a doppelganger would do – I'm ravished." Katherine teased.
"Ah you must be feeling pretty awful. Witches and their crafty spells." Damon gleamed evilly.
Katherine frowned but remained silent.
"You want to tell me why they did that to you?" Damon probed.
Katherine uncurled herself into a sitting position; well aware that her one ankle had been chained to a beam with magic. She put on her best seductive smile.
"A lady never reveals her secrets." She coyly played with the ends of her hair.
"No rules, Katherine. Remember?" Damon moved until he was standing right in front of her, his eyes gleaming darkly.
He revealed the blood bag and watched as Katherine swallowed uneasily.
"Tell me or you can mummify right now."
"I pissed off some witches." Katherine scowled at Damon.
Damon tutted.
"Stating the obvious aren't we? I knew that already you and witches don't have a good history with each other. I want to know what you did and if this has anything to do with Klaus."
Katherine smirked before answering;
"Maybe it does but if it has anything to do with Elena having her neck snapped then it was worth all the pain I endured."
Damon's control snapped. He threw the blood bag to the side and in a second he had pierced Katherine's torso with his right hand and was now holding on to her heart.
Katherine screamed out in agony. It had been a long time since anyone had gotten the upper hand with her when it came to a fight. In fear for her life she tried to push him away.
"Don't play dumb with me Katherine. I'll kill you now and you know it." Damon snarled with venom before dislodging his hand from around her heart.
Katherine gripped her right hand over chest. The pain was unbearable and it wasn't helping that she didn't have any fresh blood in her system to help her heal.
"Fine. Who knew you could be so rough?" She breathed out once the pain had numbed down.
"The witches I went to see yesterday, were the same witch family that had given me the moonstone the night I had made my escape from Klaus."
"Moonstone. They attacked you about that stupid pointless rock?" Damon asked confused.
"Yes. It wasn't a pointless rock by the way. The stone had other properties besides braking the Hybrid cure." Katherine pulled her had away from her chest, relieved that it had healed somewhat.
"Other properties?" Damon asked.
"The witches back then warned me that I was never to grant a wish when the stone was in my possession."
Damon scoffed.
"You're not making any sense here Katherine."
"The stone could grant its possessor a wish but in doing so it would have consequences."
"Consequences?"
"Klaus. Making a wish would interfere with the Hybrid spell and with Klaus himself." Katherine answered him.
The realization suddenly dawned on Damon.
"That's why he still needs Elena's blood to make more hybrids? It wasn't because she lived."
"Look who is coming up with all the answers." Katherine replied.
"You made a wish on the stone? You're the reason were in this predicament?" Damon growled out accusingly.
"I gave the stone to a Lockwood, Damon. Remember? I didn't tell him anything , only to keep the stone safe and that in doing so he would protect his family from vampires ever breaking the so called moon and the sun spell. I knew Klaus was looking for me and I couldn't risk losing it while I fled from Mystic Falls. So I knew where the stone would be if a doppelganger ever appeared again." Katherine explained.
"So you're saying that one of the Lockwood's must have made a wish and not you?" Damon couldn't believe it. How was it possible for the moonstone to have had any other purpose besides killing Klaus?
"I wanted Klaus dead. That would have been my only wish but even I wasn't stupid enough to abuse the power of the stone." Katherine snarled.
"So the witches punished you for giving the stone to someone else?" Damon asked suspiciously.
"They punished me for my incompetence." Katherine frowned.
"Is there still a way we can kill Klaus?" Damon asked after a long silent pause between the pair.
"Yes. We can kill him and we will." Katherine answered.
Damon nodded before tossing the blood bag towards her and began stalking back up the stairs. What Damon didn't know was that a loved one was bound to die unless Katherine came up with a solution.
An: So I'm back. I had some time to unwind and of course watched some past Vampire Diaries episodes as well as gaining a new obsessive compulsive disorder while watching The hunger games : Catching fire … 3 times I might add with an equally insane friend who I'm grateful is just as mad and as obsessed as I am. So don't be surprised if you happen across a hunger games fanfic in the future.
Now I'm not abandoning my Vampire Diaries – in fact I think I got more inspired to write some more especially after Damon dumped Elena's sorry butt and that Katherine might be pegging it – so perhaps that could lead to a Steroline sympathy hook up. Just wish the writers would just give us a tease of them … Kinda disappointed in the direction the show is going in. Hope they sort out the mess soon though! So I hope you all enjoy this chapter – no Steroline but will be lots of awkward sexual tension in the next few chapters.
