Shinichi was exhausted, depleted, drained, fatigued, pooped. Any words that summed how overwhelmingly tired he was flashed through his mind on autopilot. It seemed no matter how bone achingly weary he became, his mind would never stop the stupid listing on both what he saw and ever word associated with something he felt. That in itself wore him out on the best of days and now he he'd had a jampacked schedule thrown on top, he suddenly had the need to come up with a word for the type of tired he was currently experiencing because he didn't think any of the words he'd thrown around fit it perfectly.

The reason for all this was because of Ran. Dear sweet, needs to be checked into a fucking mental hospital, Ran had demanded every single second of his attention for the last week and he was over it. Yesterday he'd taken her out shopping as another apology for having been gone two years – so far it racked up to two movie nights at the cinema, four posh dinners, one visit to tropical land and one shopping trip. All payed on his credit card of course- only to have a murder to land in his lap – quit literally.

They'd stopped for a drink when the waiter serving them dropped down dead, landing in his lap- which understandably pissed Ran off more, thus resulted in him willingly (read unwillingly) taking her out to dinner to make up for that incident.

Seemed like that was the only thing he was doing these days. Making up for things. Didn't matter if they happened today or two years ago, Ran brought it up until he did something, usually involving money. Had their friendship always been like this? Him being forced to do things for her because she either threatened him physically or used emotional blackmail? Shinichi shook his head to rid himself of the depressive thoughts.

Ran wasn't like that; he was just tired and looking at this too jadedly he told himself. They had been friends for years, most said she was his better half as she was so kind and empathetic. While he chased down the bad guys she took over the job of comforting the grieving, something he was immensely grateful for as if meant he could direct all his attention to the danger and not be distracted by misplaced guilt of having to stir up painful emotions when asking probingly blunt questions.

Ran was good for him, everybody could see that, he was just having an off day he reassured, Ran wasn't an enemy in disguise she was his best and oldest friend. His sister in all but blood.

Letting out a tired sigh he sank further down into his favourite chair in the library. His father had specially brought him the chair, it had extra cushioning with a soft cotton material in a cream covering. It was made to size with a few hidden compartments for him to store weapons in case of intruders as well as hold a few sweet and pens to snack on and use as markers as he read or worked in it. He simply adored the chair. Not only did it have the extra padding and hidey holes, it was custom made to sit only him comfortably. Normally he found chairs to either be too hard or too small, but this one was designed to be wide enough to allow him to curl up but still be small enough that it felt like the chair was moulding around him, giving him one big swishy hug. The chair never failed to brighten his day just a little bit. Even if Kaito had taken to calling him gold locks when he'd found out the exact reason for the chair.

Although there was a downside to having such a comfy chair, it made it a hundred times more difficult to stay awake. Which was a problem since he was already exhausted before sitting down to begin with. He couldn't afford to fall asleep just yet, Kaito would be arriving any minuet to begin their date. He really really wanted to spend the day with his lover, recently Ran had taken up the majority of his spare time so today was the first day in weeks he could actually be with his magician. Even if it meant drinking a gallon of coffee and energy drinks, he was going to stay awake and enjoy the day with his boyfriend.

As if summoned by the thought alone Kaito bounded into the room like an overly excited puppy. He took one look his lovers-tired state and toned it down. Eyes narrowing at how harrowed the detective's appearance was. It seemed his detective had gotten three shades paler since he'd last seen him, and given the dark circles under those mesmerising eyes, it gave his usually healthy boyfriend a very sickly complexion. It didn't help that the teen looked nothing more than skin and bones, it didn't take a genius to see that the detective had skipped meals as well as sleep to accomplish whatever it was he was trying to do. He felt his protectiveness stirring at the look, mind rushing with ideas on how to get his boyfriend to eat something and actually sleep.

"I have chosen the activity for today's date." He announced proudly a plan having formed.

His chest puffed out and his hands rested on his cocked hip as he made his declaration. Shinichi couldn't help but smile at the sight. Seeing Kaito standing in front of him, his comforting presents surrounding him like a security blanket, it set him at ease and helped him lose the little tension that had remained since their last parting. He Hated with a capital H when he wasn't able to see Kaito as often as he liked but whenever he could see him, all the pain and the heart ache that had accumulated in his absence was washed away, the love and wholeness he felt with him taking its place.

"Oh? What did you choose today Kai?" He asked excitedly, drumming up his remaining energy to play along with his lover. He saw Kaito's lips twitch into a smile for a brief second before it moulded back to the proud smirk.

"Why my beautiful Shin-Chan, today we are going to have a stay at home date. We are going to change into PJs, have an hour's nap in your oh so comfortable bed before vacating to the living room- with snacks might I add- to curl up on the couch and watch some movies. Sound good?" He questioned losing his stiff posture in favour of a loose relaxed one, he only ever seemed to have when in the detective's company.

"Sounds perfect. You always know what I need don't you?" He marvelled looking up with a soft warm smile and loving eyes. Standing from the chair, he stretched before making his way over to Kaito's side and placing a soft loving kiss on his addicting lips.

"It's in my job description baby. I must always be able to satisfy you" He winked, laughing at the detective's disgruntled squawk, dodging the hand trying to swat him. All the while sneaking an arm around his boyfriend's waist to tug him in closer.

He relished the feel of having the man he intended to spend the rest of his life with, in his arms for a little while before gently leading him out the library and into the bedroom.

They made quick work of stripping down to their boxers before sliding into bed. Kaito on the right and Shinichi on the left. The magician huffed at the fact his Tantei-kun was so far away. He immediately rectified the problem by wrapping an arm around Shinichi and pulling him over until his back was flush against Kaito's chest. Shinichi wiggled around a little bit before relaxing and letting out a content sigh. Thanking every deity for allowing him to have such a kind and caring boyfriend.

The detective's exhaustion caught up with him quickly, making him fall asleep in no time. Kaito was a little slower falling asleep, happily watching his lovers deep even breathing whilst running his fingers through the thick silky hair the detective had been blessed with. Manging to drop off half an hour after Shinichi.

The Heisei Holmes woke feeling warm and refreshed. It took him a moment to realise why he felt so energised when usually a nap wasn't enough to restore this level of energy. He couldn't help the dopy smile that lit up his face at the familiar warmth and the rhythmic rise and fall of someone breathing behind him. He turned his head slightly and saw his alarm clock projecting 11:34 at him in an eerie red glow. Rounding up the numbers in his head, he worked out they had been asleep for a good Two and half hours, a record for him and well over the allotted time Kaito had specified. Rolling over he buried his face to Kaito's neck letting out a pleased sigh. He had rolled over with the intention of waking Kaito up but seeing the magician so relaxed and at peace he didn't have the heart to. He knew he wouldn't be able to fall back asleep, but he was going to enjoy the time he had, snuggled up against his favourite person, no pressing deadlines or problems to divide his attention.

Almost as if Kaito had a sixth sense for when Shinichi was awake, the thief himself began to stir. The arm around his waist squeezed him gently as two striking indigo eyes fluttered open. They regarded him with soft sleepy look, taking his partner in.

"Have I ever told you how much I love waking up to you in my arms?" The sleepy teen asked voice rough and hazy. Shinichi shivered slightly at the delicious sound, causing the owner to smirk in response, aware of what his voice was doing to his partner.

Did all guys wake up with a chocolatey voice or was it unique to Kaito he wondered to himself. Feeling his heart rate accelerate as a fire lit up inside him.

"Only every time we sleep together" The detective teased back; voice soft, unwilling to disturb the peace that had fallen around them.

"Good, I'll never tire of saying it." Kaito rumbled sincerely, one hand coming to stroke his hip.

"And I'll never tire of hearing it" Shinichi replied placing a kiss on Kaito's pulse point making him shiver in delight.

The two engaged in a slow make out session. Kaito's tongue slowly and sensually ran across Shinichi's lips before taking long slow stokes in his mouth. Shinichi slowly caressed Kaito's tongue with his own. Taking the time to really feel, to taste all that was Kai. Gradually becoming more and more entwined with one another.

By the time the couple had returned to themselves some twenty minutes had passed. They mutually agreed to go downstairs to have lunch. Each slipping on some PJ's to remain warm. Every time Shinichi saw Kaito pull out an article of clothing he stored there from his wardrobe a warm tingly feeling enveloped him. He couldn't wait for the day those pieces of clothing took up permanent residence in his cupboards and shelves.

Kaito quickly put himself in charge of setting up the living room. Getting a collection of movies to watch as well as creating a warm, comfortable place to sit. Shinichi's task was to make the snacks along with the main lunch. He decided to make Gammon sandwiches as their main, having had a good few slice's left over from dinner the night before. Whilst popping some popcorn and rounding up all the sweets/snack type foods he could find.

Just as he was putting the freshly popped popcorn into a large bowl, he heard someone banging on the front door rather forcefully. He quickly made his way to the door worried something bad might have happened, only to knocked back as Ran barged in. He blinked at her, shutting the door, waiting for an explanation.

"Mou Shinichi, you're not even dressed! How are going to take me to the new exhibition at the aquarium in only PJ's?" She huffed. Crossing her arms and tapping her foot impatiently.

"But Ran I took you out yesterday for a shopping trip and a dinner. May I remind you, only two days before that I took you to the movies. Not to mention the trip to Tropical land and all the other dinners plus movies I've paid for. Why on earth would I take you to the aquarium today? And how can I be dressed for something I had no knowledge of in the first place?" He grumbled confused and a little ticked off.

"And you left for two years so you have to take me to all those things for making me wait for you! Stop complaining and get dressed." Anger seeped into her tone.

"Made you wait for me? Ran I told you a year ago that I saw you as nothing more than a friend. It's your own fault waiting that year when I told you not too. Plus, I'm with someone, today is date day in fact, so no, I'm sorry I just can't take you today." The detective informed her, quickly losing the little patience with her he had left.

"Anyway, why would I want to be with someone who obviously would make a bad mother? You let your father throw and hit my cousin Conan while you did nothing about it. You never even checked to see if he was okay, just scolded him for 'being in the way' as you put it when he hadn't done anything wrong." He growled memories whizzing past him at an alarming velocity.

"Another thing was that you couldn't keep an eye on him for the life of you, always forgetting about him or not caring he was gone. The worst thing by far that I think you did was not believing in him when he told you things, constantly accusing him of being me! Do you know how hurt he was every time you did that?! No because you don't care! So, tell me why would I be with someone who treats a boy in their care, that they are being payed to look after like shit, huh? Tell me that!" The usually calm teen bellowed before shaking his head tiredly at the silence, opening the door for her to leave. He didn't know where all this was coming from, all he knew was that he was tired, and she was pushing at buttons he had tried very hard to not let show. The last month of working cases and then having his time monopolised by her had piled up and he was done, so done with this set up.

Yes maybe he shouldn't be saying any of this right now, maybe he should have just seen her to the door and brought this into play at a more civil time, but he wasn't thinking. He just wanted her gone and maybe an answer to something that had been bothering him since he came back. Why had she treated him that way when he was Conan? And why was she so gung-ho about him taking her places and "Paying her back" when he'd told her they wouldn't be together? Later he'd probably apologise for doing this but as of right now she was an inconvenience, that thought that he'd had earlier about her being an enemy suddenly didn't sound so unbelievable.

How much of this treatment had he missed? How many times had he stood in this position and wanted to say something along those lines and never did? Too fucking many his mind whispered before he forcibly shut that thought down. Today was date day, he was not going to ruin it by engaging in this shit show any longer.

Ran's eyes blazed as she struck out hitting the side of the door when Shinichi ducked, leaving a dent the size of her fist. "I don't care what you just said, I waited for you so do me right by being with me like everyone says you should be! Cancel your plans with the slut and take me to the aquarium or my next hit won't miss." She threated, voice cold. Eyes promising to carry out that very threat if ignored.

Shinichi just stared at her. His best friend had just told him his happiness didn't matter and that the love of his life was a slut. That all things that had upset him, angered him even were of no consequence to her. Why was it always like this? Why did he have to be forced into everything? for once in his life, couldn't he be left alone to be happy and make his own choices rather than being threated or guilt tripped into choosing theirs?

The detective shook his head slowly unable to believe what was happening,

"No" He denied softly "I will not take you, nor will I ever take you anywhere again. I will not be friends with someone who only wants things and cares for no one, especially when they insult my lover. Get out" he barked pointing toward the open door. Standing tall, firm in his decision, even if it was breaking his heart.

Ran screeched in rage and charged at Shinichi, intent on breaking some bones to teach him a lesson. She was momentarily distracted by a white blur at the corner of her eye before her wrist was caught in an iron clad grip. Looking up to see who had stopped her she came face to face with ice cold eyes and a blank face.

She shook her head and snarled, trying to break free of his hold only for it tighten to the point of pain. She felt something in her wrist pop, releasing a cry of pain along with it but her capturer still continued to tighten his grip, waiting for her to stop struggling.

"And who the fuck are you huh? You have no business being here." The Karate champion announced with false bravado.

A cruel twisted smile formed on the stranger's lips. His grip tightening one again causing a pained whimper to leave her lips.

"My name is Kaito and you will find you are the one who does not belong here, not I." His voice sent shivers down her spin, it was so cold, promising her pain for what she had done. His eyes that had been ice before, now had a manic glint to them. She had never backed down from a fight before and she wasn't about to start now.

"Oh, you're one of death magnets friends, are you? You're better off leaving him, cause he's the worst friend ever. The only thing he's good for is his money and he's not even really worth that with all you have to put up with to get it." She laughed condescendingly. Enjoy the devastation playing across her ex-childhood friends face.

Kaito glanced over at Shinichi and saw the hurt and betrayal on his face. The tears forming in his eyes, bottom lip trembling. Arms coming up to wrap around himself as he bent in on himself, trying to be as small as possible. He'd been angry before, listening to her bully his mate around until he saw her go to strike him again.

Now though all he wanted was her head. To break every single bone in her body, to best every single one of her moves that she was so proud of. To destroy everything she loved and held dear, humiliate her in the worst ways possible. But he wouldn't do that, he would never risk losing his darling by doing such acts, no matter how much she deserved it by hurting the only thing he held dear.

No, he wasn't going to kill her or even harm her personally, but he was going to torment her for the rest of her life. And if her competition happened to find out about her weak spots or she took on someone way out her strength, breaking her own bones then that was through no fault of his own. Mark his words she was going to pay, her days off living easy were numbered.

"Silence little girl" he sneered "I am no friend of his, I'm his lover, so that gives me the right to tell you to fuck off and to never come back. If you do, I will send all my evidence of your abuse to Shinichi along with a video of this conversation to the police where you will be charged with abuse and face jail time. Do not ever try to contact Shinichi again you whore!" he snarled.

"And just to sweeten the deal I might eve send it to your friend Sonoko. I'm sure she would love to hear how you were using Shinichi for his money. Think she will cotton on you are doing the same thing with her?" he grinned nastily, enjoying the look of surprise and trepidation on her face as he threw her out, slamming the door inches from her nose.

The magician leaned against the door, taking deep calming breaths before pulling Shinichi into his arms, letting him hide while he cried.

When the tears stopped and only the tear tracks with a few sniffles remained, Kaito guided him to the sofa and placed him down gently. Treating him as if he was the most precious thing in the world, and to Kaito he was. He picked up blanket, proceeded to wrap the detective up in it before pulling him to cooch into his side.

Shinichi felt like shit. His childhood friend revealed she was with him for money and had no problems actually hitting him full force to get her way. It now made him question the few friendships he had. Where they all with him for something too? Be it his brains, body or money.

He'd really thought she liked him, was a true friend. A lot of the children his age in kindergarten didn't like him and being the socially awkward person he was, he didn't know how to act with them, she was the first person he talked to that didn't dislike him immediately.

Even now he didn't make friends easily, but she had always stuck by him when others left. Looking back, he could now see she wasn't a true friend, saw the way she manipulated him to doing her will. It made him so angry at himself for being fooled for so long. He was a detective, but he'd ignored all the facts, the evidence put before him. He'd been wary of strangers before but now he didn't think he could trust again. As if sensing his thoughts Kaito spoke up.

"You will learn to trust again; it will just take some time to get over the betrayal and heartbreak. Before you start questioning if you did the right thing, you did. It's just sometimes the bond of friendship must be broken, not all friendships are made to last. It doesn't matter if you don't know who your true friends are right now, you will find out soon enough." He explained in hushed tones.

"And what then?" The younger questioned, looking to Kaito as he seemed to hold all the answers.

"Well that's the fun part. You then go on to find your true friends and forge strong bonds just like you did with me" he stated wisely, kissing Shinichi on the forehead before reaching for the remote. "Now hush, you've had stressful last twenty minutes and need to unwind with a good film." Kaito advised as the menu for the BBC Sherlock Holmes came up.

"I love you" Shinichi sighed as he settled in to watch Sherlock.

"I love you too" Kaito vowed. Flicking his wrist causing the snacks to appear beside them. Settling in to watch Sherlocks great adventures, hoping Shinichi would take to heart what he said, but only time would tell if it stuck.
