Chapter 7
Phone Calls & Visitors
Aiden
Ten Days Later… Saturday
After Mommy left the theater room, I slammed myself in the chair, blew out a breath, and hit the armrest with my fist. Dad called Mommy to tell her he wasn't picking me up. We were supposed to play mini golf. I was really excited about spending some time with him. Dad not being around, even at our old house, isn't anything new. I'm used to it being just Mommy and me. But at least when we all lived together, he made some time for me.
At least I'll always have Mommy.
When he came to my school for the first day, he said he would spend more time with me. I believed him, but now I won't see him again today. Before he came to my school, I couldn't remember the last time I'd seen him. That's why it surprised me when he actually came.
I looked forward to beating Dad at mini golf today. Pop-Pop took me to the course to play with him a few times to practice. I'm sure I can beat Dad now because he doesn't play that good, anyway.
I turned Shrek back on to watch again. If anything helped me feel better, it was my favorite movie.
I heard Mommy call my name. I paused my movie and got up to see what she wanted. "Yes, Mommy?" I asked as I walked into the kitchen.
"Are you hungry? What would you like for lunch?" Mommy asked as she looked down at me.
"Nachos please!" I jumped and clapped my hands.
Mommy leaned down, tapped the tip of my nose with her finger, and smiled. "You got it!" She chuckled.
I turned to walk away when Mommy called. "Aiden, Honey, we can go play mini golf if you would like to." She ruffled my hair and smiled.
"Yes! Let's do mini golfing!"
"We'll go after we finish lunch."
"Cool." I went back into the theater room to continue watching the movie until lunch was ready.
Just as the movie finished, Mommy called me for lunch. I ran to the kitchen, scrambled up into my chair, and saw Mommy was already at the table with our food.
"How do you like school so far? What do you think about your teacher, Mrs. Cope?" She asked while she put food on my plate.
"I like Mrs. Cope, she's really nice, and I like my class, but the girl that was staring at me told me that boys stink! I don't stink, Mommy!" I frowned as my hand smacked the table.
Mommy looked like she wanted to laugh. "No Aiden, you don't stink, Honey. Do you know why she said you stink?" She asked.
"Well, Mike and the others said girls have cooties." I avoided looking her in the eye.
"So, if Mike and them said girls have cooties, why would she tell you, you stink?" She frowned and pulled my chin up to look me in the eye.
"Um, I might've told her she has cooties." I whispered and squirmed in my chair. I was the only who told her.
"Aiden, next time you see her you will apologize. Do you understand me? It's not nice to pick on people."
The doorbell rang and interrupted Mommy.
"I wonder who that is." She got up from her chair. "We'll finish this conversation later." She gave me a pointed look and headed to the front door.
Oh man, I'm in trouble.
Bella
Who in the hell is this? The front desk has to call me before they let anyone up. I frowned as I walked toward the door.
When I looked through the peephole, I let out a sigh, and bumped my head against the door. My shoulders slumped, and I already felt vexed. I really don't feel like being bothered. I took a deep breath and prepared myself for the battle I knew was coming.
Opening the door, I leaned my hip against it, and crossed my arms to block her from entering. "Victoria." I greet Alec's mother with a glare.
"Isabella." Victoria sneered. "Are you going to let me in?" She asked in a tone one might use with a misbehaving child.
"How did you get up here?" I tapped my foot as I waited.
While I didn't deliberately hide where I lived from Victoria, I didn't volunteer the information to her either. She must have gotten our address from either Alec's father, Garrett, or Alec himself. I'd bet my last dollar on Alec telling her.
"Isabella, must you be so difficult?" She rolled her eyes. "And why wouldn't I be able to come up and see my grandson?" She ignored my question.
She must have used the Senator's wife card.
"Mmm, what do you want Victoria?"
"I came to see my grandson since I had to hear about his first day of school. Just because you tore your family apart doesn't make me any less Aiden's grandmother." She crossed her arms over her chest.
You're damn right you had to hear about Aiden's first day of school. I didn't want your pretentious ass there. I smirked.
"So, are you going to let me in to see Aiden or do I have to continue to stand here with you?" She raised an eyebrow, but it did nothing to help the sour expression on her face.
"You're just as delusional as your son. Some of us don't believe in sharing our husbands." I gave her a pointed look. "Do I need to remind you who has sole custody of your grandson and why? I don't even have to deal with you, Victoria." I met her gaze directly and smirked.
Victoria took a step towards me, put her finger in my face, and sneered, "You insignificant—"
"Mommy, I'm finished eating. Are we still going golfing?" Aiden ran towards me.
Victoria relaxed her countenance, took a step back, and plastered a fake smile across her face. "Aiden, Honey, there you are." Her tone was sickeningly sweet.
"Oh. Hi Grandma. I didn't know you were here. Did you bring Grandpa-G?" Aiden stuck his head out of the door to look for Garrett.
Her smile tightened. "No, it's just me, Sweetheart. I came to see if you wanted to spend the afternoon with me and Grandpa-G."
"Um, I don't know. Me and mommy are supposed to go golfing." Aiden frowned and tilted his head to the side.
"We can go golfing tomorrow if you would like to go with Grandpa-G and Big V today, sweetie." I smirked, knowing she hates that nickname, but also hoped to ease Aiden's concerns.
"So, Grandpa-G is going to be there, right?" Aiden asked.
"I can call him?" Victoria offered, though her smile tightened.
"Yes, please." Aiden nodded.
"Of course, sweetheart." Victoria pulled her phone out of her purse. "Hi Love." She smiled down at Aiden. "I wanted to see if you were available to spend the afternoon with Aiden and I?"
Her smile dropped some. "I'm at Isabella's." She turned her back towards us and lowered her voice to continue her one-sided conversation.
I placed my hand on Aiden's shoulder. "You can do whatever you want to do today, no pressure."
"I wanna go with Grandpa-G." He smiled.
"That's fine with me." I smiled back at him.
"Okay, here he is." Victoria turned back toward us and gave Aiden her phone. "Grandpa wants to talk to you."
Aiden took the phone. "Hey Grandpa-G!"
While Aiden was busy on the phone, Victoria and I shared looks of mutual disdain.
"He wants to talk to you, Mommy." Aiden passed the phone to me.
"Hi Garrett."
"Bella." He sighed. "I'm so sorry. I don't even know how she found out where you live."
"Well, apparently she has her ways." I didn't bother hiding the sarcasm in my voice.
Garrett chuckled humorlessly. "We can call it that. I was actually going to call you once Alec told me he was going to be…" He paused, looking for the right word. "occupied today. I wanted to know if I could pick Aiden up to spend the rest of the day with him."
"Yeah, that's okay, Aiden wants to spend time with you, anyway."
"Great! I'll be there in thirty-minutes, bye."
"See you soon, bye." I end the call and handed the phone back to Victoria with a smile. "Grandpa-G will be here in thirty-minutes to pick you up Aiden." My gaze never wavered from her face.
"Well, that's settled." Victoria sounded deflated as she put her phone back into her purse.
"Awesome! I'm going to go get dressed!" Aiden smiled from ear to ear and ran to his room.
"I won't let you turn my only grandson against me, Isabella." She scowled once Aiden was no longer in sight.
"I think you're doing that just fine on your own Big V."
"I've always despised you. You were never good enough for my Alec!"
"The feelings mutual." I stood from my leaning position. "Well, this was fun Vicky, but let's not do this again." I closed the door in her face before she could say anything else.
When I get to Aiden's room, I found him putting his shoes on. "You look cute." He wore jeans and a simple t-shirt.
He smiled. "I'm gonna go play with my toys until Grandpa gets here."
"Okay, I'll be in the living room if you need anything." I walked out of his room.
I plopped down onto the couch, put my feet on the coffee table, and looked up at the ceiling as I exhaled.
That was enough drama to last me for the next month. If my phone call with Alec wasn't bad enough on its own, I had to deal with Victoria's unwanted visit, too.
Flashback:
I sat in my office reviewing next month's issue of the magazine when my ringing phone interrupted me. Looking down, I see Alec's name come across my screen.
"Hello."
"Hey Isa, how are you?"
"I'm doing good. How are you?" I asked as I leaned forward on my desk.
"I'm great, you know, living life. Everything down at the news station is good. My new place is looking good."
"Well, I'm glad everything is great for you." I wished he would get to his point. "What time will you be here to get Aiden?" I asked.
I decide to cut to the chase. If it didn't involve Aiden, there isn't much reason for us to talk. That friendship was long gone. Alec didn't normally call, especially not for idle conversation.
"That's why I was calling." His voice was hesitant. "I won't be able to get Aiden today. I have plans."
"How did you make other plans when you already planned to spend time with your son?" My tone was sharp, but I didn't care.
"Yeah, I know. You're not happy with me, what else is new." The sarcasm was evident in his voice before he cleared his throat. "I'll make it up to him next week, I promise."
"Alec, your promises don't mean jack shit! Do you even want to spend time with your son or not?" I balled my free hand into a fist at the prospect of Aiden's feelings being hurt.
"Don't be melodramatic, Isa. Of course, I want to spend time with my son. At least I called."
"Oh, how lovely you called to cancel on your son. You wanna cookie?" I pressed my lips into a thin line. "You called this time, but what about all the other times you just didn't show."
"Come on, I'm trying as best as I can."
"No, you're not."
"Isa." He sighed. "What do you want me to say?"
"Alec, there is nothing else to say." I ended the call and tossed my phone on my desk.
Now I had to tell Aiden that his father won't show again. How do I explain to my six-year-old that his father won't make time for him?
End Flashback
The house phone ringing brought me back to the present. I reach over to the end table and pick up the receiver. "Hello."
"Hello Ms. Swan. This is Johnathan from the front desk. There is a Mr. Scott here for you. Would you like for me to send him up?"
"Yes, thank you, Johnathan," I said before hanging up.
A few moments later there was a knock at the door.
"Hey, Garrett." I moved to the side to let him come in.
"Hey, Bella." He paused. "I do want to apologize again for Victoria. Once I knew Alec wasn't coming to get Aiden, I mentioned to Victoria that I would see if you would let me take him for the rest of the day. She got ahead of me."
I couldn't lie and say her visit was okay, but I didn't want to make him feel any worse. "Victoria can be," I bit my lip as I searched for the right word. "tenacious. But you are always welcome to spend time with Aiden."
"I appreciate that. Trust me, I know how difficult this can all be."
"I would never try to keep him away from you or his father. He really loves you Garrett."
Now his wife on the other hand…
"I know you wouldn't do that, Bella. Despite Victoria's actions, coming here today unannounced, we know how lucky we are with you allowing us to even see Aiden. I won't take this for granted, Bella."
"Garrett, you have to know I don't hold anything against you. You're not responsible for what Alec did. He's a grown man. He made his choice. Just as he made his choice today. Aiden loves you just as much as you love him."
Aiden must have heard his grandfather's voice. The next thing I know, he's barreled down the hallway from his bedroom, jumped into Garrett's arms, and almost knocked him down. "Grandpa-G!" He beamed, almost vibrating. After Garrett got his footing, he hugged Aiden tight, nuzzling in his hair. "I've missed you so much, little buddy." Garrett chuckled.
Aiden slide down Garrett's body. "I'll get my coat!" He dashed to his bedroom.
I looked at Garrett and smiled. "You've made his day. Thank you."
"You have no idea the joy he gives me," Garrett said. "Since Alec won't be taking him, I'll take him to the golf course and then we'll hit the arcade for a little while. We'll also grab something to eat while we're out." Garrett looked down at his watch. "How about if I have him back by 9:00 since this isn't a school night?" He asked.
"That sounds good. I'm sure he'll enjoy himself."
"Okay, I'm ready!" Aiden walked to the living room with his coat in tow.
"Alright!" Garrett marveled at Aiden. "Let's get your coat on first, it's getting chilly outside."
Less than five minutes later, Aiden and Garrett were gone.
Damn, I needed an outlet. I picked up my phone from the coffee table and pressed two on speed dial.
"Hey Ali! Whatcha doing?" I asked.
"Hey baby sis. I just finished showing some properties to some clients, but I'm done for the day."
"I need a girl's night at my condo."
"That's fine with me. I haven't been there since you moved in. Should I call Rose?" She asked.
"I'll call her when I get off the phone with you. What do you want to eat tonight?"
"I'm in the mood for some Joe's Seafood. Let's get the family platter so we can have a variety." She paused briefly. "You order it and I'll pick it up on the way. Tell Rose to bring the dessert and you can cover the drinks."
I laid back on the couch, trying to think of what ingredients I had to make drinks. "I can make my fruity vodka party punch." I sighed. "I don't want anything strong. I need to vent."
"Oh, one of those nights, huh? We got you covered sis. Tell Rose to bring plenty of dessert then. It might be a long one because I have some things, I've been meaning to share with you and Rose too," She said.
"So, you've been hiding stuff, huh? You've piqued my interest now. Hurry and get over here." I laughed.
She squealed into the phone. "I'll see you in an hour, girl! Don't forget to call the order in."
"Yeah, yeah. I won't forget. See you soon. Bye."
"Bye." She disconnected the call.
I pressed speed dial 3.
"Hey Rosie-Posie! What you into today?" I asked.
"Hey Bella. I'm just relaxing at home, watching a movie. What you got in mind?"
"A girl's night at my place. I'm offering Joe's seafood, curtsey of Alice, my amazing vodka punch, and hopefully the best pastry chief in Chicago can bring dessert?
And to top off this magical evening, we'll have some girl talk!" I grinned as I used my best game show host voice.
"You cows are in luck. I just made a mango cheesecake today." Rosalie laughed.
"Oooo. That's one of my favorites! Is there anything in particular you want before I order the seafood?"
"Nah, just get the platter."
"That's what I'm ordering. I had an eventful day today, I have so much to tell you and Ali. And she said she had some things she's been meaning to share with us."
"Come to think of it, she has been acting a little strange lately. I'm interested to hear what she has to say." She exhaled. "Okay, let me get dressed and I'll see you all in an hour."
"Alright. See you soon." I ended the call and headed to the kitchen to make the punch.
After a quick call from the front desk, I made my way to the door, opened it, and stood in the doorway as I waited for Alice and Rose to come up.
"Hey B." Alice and Rose said in unison as soon as they saw me
"Hey guys. Come on in." I moved out of the way so they could come in. "Follow me." I closed the door and led them to the kitchen.
"This is a nice place you got here, Bella.," Rosalie said as we passed the living and dining room.
"Yes, I am a fantastic realtor, aren't I?" Alice grinned and stood a little taller.
"Thanks Rose, but wait until you see the balcony."
"Wow! That view is amazing." Rose agreed.
"That's what sold it for me."
"I don't blame you. It's a shame you can't live out here on the balcony." Rose Laughed.
"I see us having many girls' nights here," Alice said.
I smiled and nodded. "Come girls, let eat before the food gets cold," I said as I opened the balcony door and waited for them to walk through.
We all picked our food of choice, along with the drinks I had already prepared, and sat down at the kitchen table.
"So, who wants to start?" Rose asked before she sipped her drink.
"B, you're the one who called the girl's night, so you start first." Alice suggested.
"Alright. Guess who came over here today?" I asked.
"Alec!" Alice slapped the table and pointed at me.
I shook my head. "Nope. But I talked to him today. We'll get to that later."
Rose snapped her fingers several times as if she was trying to remember something. "Um, what's his face. Your divorce lawyer that kept asking you out?"
"Nope. Not him either."
"Well, damn B. Who the hell came over here then?" Alice huffed out a breath of air and gave up on the guessing game.
I looked from left to right where they were both sitting. "Victoria Scott." I pursed my lips.
"How the hell does that snobby bitch even know where you live?" Alice wrinkled her nose.
"Ali, you know her precious son, Alec told her. He's nothing but a grown ass mama's boy. You would think she was married to Alec instead of Garrett." Rosalie frowned.
"Wait, how did she get pass security?" Alice asked.
"You know she threw Garrett's name around like she always does. I'm going to have a conversation with the security downstairs to see that it doesn't happen again."
"You're damn right! How dare they let her up without your knowledge." She paused to chew her food. "I'm ready to report whoever was working to the building association myself."
"What did the pompous bitch want?" Rose asked.
"Supposedly, she wanted to spend time with Aiden, but she didn't get to that point until after all her insults."
"You let Aiden go with her?" Alice asked with wide eyes. "I've never understood and have been meaning to ask. Why do you all hate each other so much?"
"You know she hasn't liked me since Alec 'rebelled' against her. She always blamed me for him not going to Oxford, like he wasn't the one that decided to stay here with me. And let's not forget I was never good enough for her baby boy," I said, imitating Victoria.
"Nobody is good enough for her baby boy." Alice rolled her eyes before eating a forkful of food.
"Please tell me you didn't let her in here B." Rose furrowed her brows and rested her elbow on the table.
I turned to meet her gaze while chuckling. "I thought you knew me better than that Rose." I let out an exaggerated sigh. "Big V stood right out there in the hallway." I laughed, and they joined in laughing with me. After I caught my breath from laughing, I continued. "Garrett was upset Victoria came over here unannounced when she called him at Aiden's request. She left with her tail between her legs after she and I exchanged a few pleasantries."I smirked, taking a sip of my drink. "Garrett apologized to me several times and didn't understand how she even got my address. But he knows how his wife is, so there's no surprise to the levels she stoops to."
"How did the conversation end?" Rose asked.
"I grew tired of her and closed the door in her face." I shrugged my shoulder and put a bite of fish in my mouth. "That was the second part of my day. Alec called to cancel with Aiden… again."
"Hold on. So, where is Aiden?" Alice asked.
"He's with Garrett," I said.
"Alec is such a jackass. How did Aiden take it?" Alice asked with a sigh.
"He tried to hide it, but I could tell he was disappointed. Alec is spending less and less time with him. It's gotten worse since the divorce. Honestly, he's stopped trying, like the minute the divorce was final it absolved him of being a father." I shook my head, as if to shake off the conversation I had with Alec earlier. "Do you know he had the audacity to tell me on the phone today 'at least I called?' The bastard thought that was good enough." I dropped my fork on my plate, contemplating what I was about to say next. "I don't know how much longer I'm going to keep doing this with Alec." All I could think about was how this was affecting Aiden.
"That's right, Bella, this isn't fair to Aiden. Your and Alec's marriage didn't make it, but that doesn't mean Alec gets to check out from being a father." Rose nodded. "I know this must be hard for you, but I know you're going to do what best for Aiden, no matter how hard it may be."
I stood up from the table and began pacing. I ran my hand through my hair. "It was one thing for him to cheat on me, which hurt me to the core when I found out, but it's a whole different thing for him to make promises to Aiden and continue to flake out on him."
"He's not excused for cheating on you either, B," Alice said. "He fucked up his family and now he's fucking up his relationship with Aiden." She threw her fork down on her plate. "It's time for him to man up and take responsibility for his actions."
I flinched at Alice's sharp tone, clenching my fist at my side. "He won't hold himself accountable," I said. "His mother had the nerve to tell me today I ruined our family. Me! She doesn't want to address the fact that Alec cheated on me for two damn years." I held up two fingers. "Him and Chelsea were going back and forth to their suite every damn week while I'm at home with our son being a mother to him, and all the while Alec is with his model!" I pounded my fist on the table. "But I tore our family up. Was I supposed to overlook his mistake? I told that crazy bitch 'everybody doesn't want to share their husbands!'"
I saw Alice's eyes widen as she held back laughter, while Rose sprayed her mouthful of drink halfway across the room.
I chuckled at them trying to hold in their laughter. "I never shared this." I shook my head and stared at the wall. "Do you know how embarrassing it was to go to my gynecologist and ask for a panel of tests for STD's?" My voice was barely above a whisper. "I knew something wasn't right. It was off, you know. They say if you think your husband is cheating, he usually is."
Alice frowned. "Bella, you don't have to rehash that tonight."
"No, Alice. She needs to get this out. Let her finish," Rosalie said.
"All the 'trips' and late nights just didn't make sense to me. I couldn't ignore the feeling anymore. That's when I sought out my private investigator, Marcus McCoy. It didn't take him long to find the paper trail they left behind." I stopped pacing and sat on the barstool in front of the island. "It was picture after picture. I tortured myself looking at them until I couldn't take it anymore."
Alice and Rose stood up from the table, walked over to me, and both sat beside me. They stroked my back and encouraged me to let out everything I pinned up for months.
"I couldn't believe it at first. But it was all there, right in front of me. Alec was my best friend and husband. We used to take walks together on the lake front sharing our dreams and talking about having a family together." I pulled my legs up to my chest. "I-I couldn't understand how he could do this to me… to us. I couldn't deny it, it was pictures of them in Paris, California, and Hawaii… too many places to name."
"That son of a bitch!" Rosalie sneered.
"He took her to places we once talked about going to. That was one of the things that hurt the most. Before we got settled in our careers, we would go to the North Avenue beach with our blanket and basket full of food and imagine we were in Hawaii or California, just the two of us."
"So, you all never went to any of the places you talked about?" Alice asked.
"We went to some of them. But when Alec continued to flourish in his career, there was less time to travel, at least with me and Aiden." I sighed. I waved my hand. "Anyway, I was angry with myself for ignoring the signs." I looked at Alice. "You don't know how relieved I was that Aiden wasn't home when Marcus brought me those pictures. I lost it, throwing all kinds of glass in the house, especially Alec's stuff." I chuckled without humor. "I almost did an Angela Bassett, Waiting to Exhale move, taking all of Alec's clothes and burning them in one of his many cars."
"Now that shit would've been funny and well deserved." Rosalie laughed. "Sweetie, I know it was hard sharing all this, having to remember, but you needed to let it out. It's okay to cry. You and Aiden have been to hell and back with Alec," Rosalie said.
"Is it strange that I'm not still crying?" I set my gaze on Rosalie. "I cried until it felt like there were no more tears to cry, when Marcus brought me the pictures and receipts. I was a complete mess. I opened a bottle of Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1951, you know Alec's good stuff, and drank straight from the bottle while I 'redecorated' Alec's home office." I smiled as I recalled destroying some of Alec's precious pieces of art hanging on the wall.
"You all may think I'm a little nuts." I twirled my pointer finger around my ear. "I finished about half of my wine bottle and decided I wouldn't get drunk because of what Alec did." I sat up straighter, gaining more confidence with what I was about to say. "I told myself then I was going to cry about it that day and that day only. Don't get me wrong, it hurt badly. But I made it up in my mind that me and Aiden were moving on." I sighed and felt some relief from talking. "Our marriage was over the moment he cheated on me two years ago. There was no way I would ever trust him again, so why go through the motions, you know?" I asked, looking at Alice and Rosalie.
"We don't think you're crazy for not crying. We just want to make sure you're okay. You were together for a long time. We know it will take time to get over everything. We're just asking you not to shut down," Alice said.
"More than anything, B, we want you to know that we're here for you, no matter what. We love your crazy ass!" Rosalie chuckled and nudged my shoulder with hers as we all laughed.
I laid my arms across both Alice and Rosalie's shoulders and pulled them in for side hugs. "What would I do without my girls?" I asked, feeling refreshed. "Enough of the sad shit! What's going on with you all?"
I stood up from the bar stool. "Rosie-Posie, you go first!"
Rosalie shook her head. "B, nobody can call me that shit but you." She guffawed. "Anyway, Carl, my marketing account manager recommended this guy named, Emmett, who has his own investing slash marketing business." Rosalie stood up to cut herself a piece of mango cheesecake. "Carl says Emmett's the best in the business. I met up with Emmett and we talked over some strategies about me expanding my business." She licked some the cake from her fingers and smiled. "He has some great ideas… and that's not the only thing great on him either." She smirked.
"You slut! Don't tell me you fucked him after your business meeting?" Alice asked, a wicked grin appeared on her face.
"Hell no! What do you take me for, you twat-waffle!" Rosalie narrowed her eyes at Alice. "I'm just saying he is a serious piece of eye-candy. He asked me out on a date. We're going next week." She smiled and stuck her fork into a piece of mango.
"You mind describing this piece of eye candy?" I asked.
She leaned her head to the side. "He has to be at least a towering 6'5", with ocean blue eyes, curly dark brown hair, and a chiseled chest." She fanned herself with a devious grin. "He had the cutest dimples I've ever seen in my life, and the perfect ass I would love to hold on to." She finished with a blissful look on her face.
I walked over to Rosalie, bumped her hip with mine, and pulled her out of her daydream. "It sounds like somebody needs to get laid."
"I never denied that," Rosalie said while giving Alice a high-five.
Alice jumped up and down. "My turn, my turn!" She waved her hand in the air.
"Girl, we're not in school, put your hand down." I laughed at her.
"Okay, so his name is Jasper. He's tall with brown wavy hair, and the most beautiful hazel eyes that look green one minute and brown the next depending on what we're doing." Alice smirked. "You can tell he works out, but he's not huge. He's just right for me. He's a history professor at Loyola University." Alice squealed and clapped her hands together. "I think he's the one!"
"Is it that serious, Ali? How long have you been dating him?" I asked with concern.
"Um, it's been three months now" Alice said.
"Three months?" Rosalie and I spoke at the same time.
"Why the hell are we just hearing about this?" Rosalie demanded.
Alice beamed, jumped up on the island and swung her legs. "It's been a lot going on. Plus, I wanted to see where it was going to go first before I told you guys. Now that we know we're each other's forever, we're going to have a dinner party soon, at my place." She smiled, popping a piece of mango in her mouth. "Jasper's inviting his friends and I'm inviting you all. His friends own their own business and are really busy right now, so I'm not sure of the date yet. We'll have to check with his friends, and I'll let you know. You guys have to be on your best behavior." She finished with a dreamy look in her eyes.
