Tower of Joy, 284 AC

Brandon Stark looked down at the precious bundle that was currently in his arms. He couldn't believe she was finally here. His beautiful daughter. His little dragonwolf.

The last year has been extremely hard. Things didn't go as they had planned. He was positive that going down this route would lead to the mad king getting dethroned by Rhaegar, but with the death of his father and barely escaping from the red keep, things just kept going downhill from there. The only good thing that came out of this entire ordeal was his daughter that he had with his wife, Elaena Targaryen.

He was suppose to marry Lady Catelyn Tully, but then King Aerys II wrote to his father about completing the ice and fire pact which stated that a Targaryen princess would marry into the House of Stark, so the betrothal contract with Lady Catelyn was voided, and he was set to marry Elaena Targaryen.

And of course, Lord Hoster Tully was outraged, he honestly thought his daughter was a better match for him than Elaena was, a trout can never compare to a dragon.

If that wasn't enough, Lady Catelyn had the gull to confront Elaena at their wedding feast about how Lady Catelyn thought Elaena was a homewrecker for stealing her future husband. Obviously King Aerys didn't see the confrontation, but the next morning Lady Catelyn tried to apologize to the Targaryen Princess, but Elaena didn't want to hear it, and flat out told her off.

It's been two years since he married the love of his life, and back then he was so sure their future was secure, but now the future is unknown, and now all he wants to do is protect his daughter.

Brandon didn't know when everything went so wrong but he can remember the day that started this whole entire mess like it was just yesterday.

Flashback:

HarrenhalTourney, 281 AC

The Stark family had just arrived at Harrenhal, when all of a sudden Brandon Stark heard someone yelling his wife's name, he turned around to see his wife embracing her twin brother, Rhaegar Targaryen. The twins haven't seen each other in two years. That's the longest they've ever been apart, according to what Elaena told him.

For the past week Brandon has noticed how his sister has done everything she could to avoid Robert Baratheon, and spent her time exchanging fleeting looks with Princess Elia, and Prince Rhaegar. Something was happening between the three of them, and he was gonna get to the bottom of it.

"Have you noticed anything off about Lyanna, Elaena?" Brandon Stark asked his wife. He wanted to get her opinion on the matter, and if she hasn't noticed anything unusual about Lyanna's behavior, then he was going to go straight to the source. Lyanna has never been able to lie to him.

"No, my love. Only that Lyanna has been avoiding Robert, but that's nothing unusual. Why? Is something wrong?" Elaena said.

Elaena knew how Lyanna really felt about her betrothal to the stag lord. Lyanna has been avoiding Robert the entire time while they've been here at Harrenhal, she only wishes that her good-father had found a better match for Lyanna because Robert Baratheon didn't deserve her, and Ned doesn't help with constantly going on and on how amazing Robert is, and how Lyanna should give him a chance, But his love for his best friend blinds him from seeing who Robert truly is.

"Nothing is wrong, love. I just have a gut instinct that something bad is gonna happen." Brandon said while rubbing the tension out of his wife's shoulders.

"Alright, well I'm gonna have a talk with my brother. Now that I think about it, Rhaegar has been acting extremely distant the last three days." Elaena said to her husband who just looked at her with a blank stare.

"Maybe we should both go see what's wrong with our siblings, and then we can see if there is really something wrong. We could be freaking out over nothing, my love." Brandon assured his wife, who didn't look convinced.

"Alright, I'll see ya later tonight." Elaena said kissing her husband on the cheek.

The married couple went their separate ways. Brandon went to talk to Lyanna, and Elaena went to talk to Rhaegar. If only they knew how much things were about to change.

As Elaena made her way to her brother's chambers she couldn't help, but put her hand on her stomach. Last night a maester confirmed that she was with child. She's only 8 weeks pregnant, but she can't wait to tell Brandon the good news later tonight.

As Elaena entered her brothers room she was greeted by her niece Rhaenys. "Brother mine, where art thou?" Elaena said while Rhaenys clung to her dress. She picked up the little girl, and walked further into the room.

"I'm right here, sister. I'm glad you're here because Elia and I need to talk to you about something important." Rhaegar said. He knew that his older twin wouldn't understand what he's about to tell her, but he hopes that she'll support him.

Just as Elaena was going to say something, Elia came bouncing into the room. Something was off with both her brother and good-sister.

"Ena, how are you? I've missed you." Elia said to her good-sister. She had just gotten back from putting Aegon down for a nap when Ser Barristan came and said that her husband and good-sister where in her chambers. She knew right there and then that Rhaegar was ready to tell Elaena.

"I actually have great news to share with you both. I probably should tell Brandon first, but you know me, I can't keep a secret from my brother to save my life. I'M WITH CHILD." Elaena basically screams. Her brother and good-sister sat there shocked for a second and then Rhaegar instantly embraced her.

"I'm going to be an uncle!"

"I'm going to be an aunt!"

"I'm only 8 weeks, but after two years, I'm finally with child. A lot of the northern lords thought I was barren. So I can't wait to shove this pregnancy in their faces." Elaena ranted, but was soon cut off when her brother's facial expression turned serious.

"We need to tell you something, Ena." Rhaegar said as he grabbed his wife's hand. He could only pray to the seven that his sister would support him and Elia.

"Is this about the fleeting looks you both have been sharing with Lyanna?" Elaena said as she crossed her arms over her chest and looked down at her brother and good-sister who she noticed went stiff.

"How?" both Rhaegar and Elia said simultaneously.

"I'm very observant, brother mine. I've noticed how hard Lyanna has been avoiding Robert, but last night at the feast when Lord Stark forced her to dance with Robert, I noticed how you two, and her were constantly looking at each other throughout the entire dance." Elaena explained.

"We have fallen for the she-wolf. I wish to take her as my second wife." Rhaegar said with a hint of hope. All he had was hope. Hope that this plan that he, Elia, and Lyanna have concocted doesn't go wrong. Hope that this decision doesn't start a war, even though it was a love that he was willing to wage war for. Hope that his sister, and other half will accept the inevitable, and support him.

"I knew it." Elaena said with a sigh. Rhaegar and Elia just sat there shocked.

"I had a gut feeling that something was happening between you three, but there's only one problem with this whole situation. Lyanna is already betrothed to Robert Baratheon, and Lyanna's father won't end the betrothal no matter how many times Lyanna begs him to." Elaena said. She was really worried for her brother, and good-sisters.

"That's why we planned on eloping. I'm telling you this because I want your support, Ena. Can you honestly say that Lyanna will be happy being married to Robert? Elia and I are falling in love with Lyanna. It's a love I am willing to wage a war for, sister. You know how I have always done my duty, but for once I want to follow my heart, damn the consequences." Rhaegar ranted on and on to his sister.

Elaena contemplated the situation she found herself in. She was about to respond to her brother, but was interrupted by Ser Barriston announcing the arrival of Lyanna. By the look on Lyanna's face her husband doesn't know what she does, because if he did, he would have come straight here to confront her brother.

"I couldn't tell Brandon, Ena." said Lyanna as she was embraced by Rhaegar and Elia.

"Your brother is a hot head, so I can understand why you didn't tell him, Lya." Elaena reassured her good-sister as she wrapped her arms around her stomach. She turned to her brother, having already made her decision.

"I will support you, brother. But if this ends in war, we must make plans." Elaena said. She had a gut feeling that this was going to end badly, but she can't say no to her brother. Watching him interact with both Elia and Lyanna, you can see the love he holds for both woman in his eyes. All she has ever wanted for her twin, and other half was for him to be happy.

Elaena left her brothers chambers feeling indifferent. Apparently her brother was going to keep his plans to himself for now. All she knows is that her brother and good-sister want to marry Lyanna Stark. She just hopes that he goes about it in a way that doesn't cause trouble. The last thing she wants is to be stuck between both of her families.

Two days later Rhaegar Targaryen named Lyanna Stark as his Queen of Love and Beauty in front of the entire kingdom even though his sister told him not to. The aftermath was chaotic.

"So you're telling me that you, Elia and my sister eloped!? And you're asking me for advice? I should want to kill you, but Elaena would hate me if I did!" Brandon Stark exclaimed. Everything that was happening at the moment was chaotic. He couldn't help but feel like things are only going to get worse.

"Yes, I'm asking you for advice. With the ways things are happening, and Robert Baratheon calling for my head, I feel like war is about to happen. But I can use this to my advantage. If war breaks out, this gives me the opportunity to dethrone my father, and stop his madness before he ends up blowing up all of kings landing. I just have to go about it the right way. And I know that if war breaks out, we'll be on opposing sides, so how do we prevent Elaena from having to choose a side?" Rhaegar ranted to his good brother.

Rhaegar knew he should've listened to his sister, but he went against her advice, and now things are completely messed up. As if having Robert Baratheon wanting him dead wasn't enough, now he has put his twin sister in the middle because no matter how things go, the Starks will support Baratheon because of Ned Stark being best friends with him. He only has one option, and he hopes his good brother will agree to it.

"I don't want my wife to have to choose between her two families, so we need to come up with a plan where we can protect not only Elia and Lyanna, but your sister and my wife as well. I now have a child on the way, Rhaegar, and I want both Elaena and my child protected. Even if that means we must separate for a bit, I can even be a spy for you." Brandon said. He was worried not only for his family but for the child that is growing in his wife's stomach. He will do everything he possibly can to protect his son or daughter.

"I have talked to both Elia, and Lyanna and we have decided to send Elia and my children back to Kings Landing, while I go and hide Lyanna somewhere in Dorne. Oberyn Martell is going to help, and if we want to protect Elaena I think we should send her to Dorne with Lyanna." Rhaegar said. This was the only option they had. He knows his sister will fight against going into hiding, but he will keep her safe, even if he has to sweep her off to Dorne in the middle of the night.

"Why can't you send Elia and your children to Dorne as well? If you send them to kings landing and war breaks out they will be used as political hostages." Brandon said. The plan could work, but they need to make sure it works, and nothing goes wrong.

"Elia and I talked about that. She has to go to kings landing because we don't want my father to become suspicious, so she and my children will go to kings landing to make sure that the king doesn't suspect anything. Prince Lewyn Martell will be guarding Elia and the children, and if anything goes wrong then he can help them escape." Rhaegar assured Brandon.

Brandon could only agree. His good-brother is dead set that this plan will work, and he can only hope it will. As of tonight, he'll be apart from his wife for the first time in two years. He just hopes he survives long enough to see his child be born.

"You can't expect me to sit by and go into hiding! If anything I will go to kings landing with Elia and her children! Please don't make me go into hiding, Brandon! This is madness!" Elaena whisper-yelled at her husband.

Everything that has happened could've been prevented if her brother had just listened to her, and he and Elia already eloped with Lyanna, so it's only a matter of time before Robert Baratheon calls for war. Her good-father will also be up in arms. But for now a goodnights rest will do her good.

While Elaena was in one part of harrenhal trying to get some sleep, Rhaegar was in the solar attached to his bed chambers, and standing in front of him were Ser Arthur Dayne, and Ser Oswell Whent.

"I'm sure you're both aware of what has happened as of late, and how the safety of my twin sister and my second wife, Lyanna Stark are in question. It has been decided by Brandon Stark and I to have both Elaena, and Lyanna swept away in secret, to Dorne. As of tonight, I am preparing for war because once Robert Baratheon finds out Lyanna is gone, he will have a reason to take my head, and it will be only a matter of time until a war is waged." Rhaegar explained to his most trusted knights.

"Are you sure this is a good idea? Elaena is a very fierce woman, and I don't see her going without putting up a fight. Plus she's scary when she's angry." Ser Oswell Whent said. Nothing good can come from this, he thought to himself.

"Which is why Brandon has put a sleeping draught in her evening tea. She will be asleep when you go and retrieve her. By the way Elaena is pregnant, so whatever you do please protect her, and the babe. Lyanna and I have tried, and I'm hoping that Lyanna is with child too. So I'm counting on you both to protect them. They are the future of House Targaryen." Rhaegar said, giving Oswell and Arthur a pointed look.

"So who is helping us?I may be from House Dayne, but having someone from House Martell help with this mission would be nice." Ser Arthur said. He didn't like what was currently happening, but he will support his best friend, even if he hates what he does.

"Oberyn Martell will be helping you make a getaway with Elaena and Lyanna on a ship to Dorne. You have two hours to get your things, and prepare . I wish you luck, and Arthur if me, Elia, our children, and Lyanna and her child (if she has one) don't survive this, protect Elaena's child, I refuse to allow Viserys on the throne. It will be Elaena's child who ascends the throne if I pass, even if it's a girl. This scroll is my last will and testament. Keep it hidden, and keep it safe." Rhaegar practically pleaded to his best friend. He knew there was a chance he wouldn't survive, but he'd die trying to protect the rest of his family.

Two hours later Ser Arthur Dayne crept in Princess Elaena's bed chambers, and carefully carried her out to where her husband was waiting for Arthur to give him some of his wife's belongings.

"Here are some of her things. Please protect them, Arthur. If I don't survive this, please protect my child. Stay with them as long as you can, and tell them how much I love them." Brandon Stark said while a single tear fell down his face. This may be the very last time he sees his wife, he may never see his child be born. If he knew one thing it was that things were about to get worse before they got better.

Ser Arthur Dayne, and Ser Oswell Whent along with Prince Oberyn Martell escaped int the night with Lyanna Stark-Targaryen, and Elaena Targaryen-Stark, and the course of history was about to be changed forever.

The Next Day

Everyone who was still at Harrenhal was up in arms. Especially Robert Baratheon, and the Starks. Sometime last night both Lyanna Stark, and Elaena Targaryen-Stark disappeared. No one knows where they truly went, but Robert Baratheon is adamant that Rhaegar took his betrothed, and that Elaena Targaryen-Stark was a traitor, and of course Rickard Stark, and Ned Stark completely agreed with him.

Brandon on the other hand, had to act the part if he wanted the whole spy for Rhaegar thing to work. He was currently in the solar attached to his fathers bed chambers. Robert Baratheon, and Ned were going on and on about how Rhaegar Targaryen stole Lyanna, and that his wife was a traitor. If only they knew the truth.

"Rhaegar stole my betrothed, and Brandon's dragon whore of a wife helped him do it. I wouldn't surprise me if Elaena Targaryen was also fucking her brother behind your back, Brandon." Robert Baratheon roared. He wanted to rip someone to shreds with his war hammer. If he was to rebel against the crown to get his betrothed back, then he was gonna do more than just rebel, he was gonna take Rhaegar Targaryen's throne.

"Call my wife a dragon whore one more time, and I'll show your stupid little stag ass how a wolf hunts it's prey, Baratheon. Ned may be friends with you, but I'm not so watch how you talk to me, and mine." Brandon yelled back. He was seething inside. Both his father, and Ned were calling Elaena a traitor, and calling for her head along with Rhaegar's.

"I'm calling my banners. The storm lands will be ready to fight for their future liege lady!" Robert said.

Brandon only sat there, and shook his head waiting for what his father was going to do.

"I'm calling the northern banners. He kidnapped my daughter in the middle of the night like a craven and I want justice. Eddard will lead the Northern Army while Brandon and I go to Kings Landing to demand for my daughter's return, and for Rhaegar's head. I will spare my good-daughter any pain until she gives birth, but then they can take her head too." Rickard Stark said to both his sons.

Ned nodded in agreement while Brandon just flinched at the idea of Elaena dying.

"If Rhaegar wants war, we'll give him one to remember." Ned Stark exclaimed.

Brandon Stark pulled his father and brother aside, and tried to tell them the truth, but they accused him of lying, so he just followed his father, and brother with his shoulders slumped feeling utterly defeated. He won't be able to spy now, since his father is making him go to the capital with him. He prays to the old gods, and new, that he survives.

And thus Rhaegar fought valiantly, Rhaegar fought nobly, and Rhaegar died, or so everyone thought.

(End of Flashback)

"Brandon, a group of riders has been spotted flying Stark banners. You don't think Ned has discovered where we are, do you?" Arthur Dayne as he entered the bedroom that houses Princess Elaena, and her child. Elaena gave birth first, and Lyanna is due any day now. Lyanna's pregnancy was a surprise for everyone, but a very welcome surprise.

"I'm not sure, but I wouldn't put it past him to come, and rescue Lyanna. I bet you any money that Robert expects him to return to kings landing with her in tow. If Ned only knew the truth." Brandon said.

Arthur just looked at the Stark Lord for a second. "If it's your brother what do you wanna do? Do you want him to know you're still alive? And what about your daughter, will Ned allow Robert to kill her too?" Arthur spat.

It's only been a week since they heard the horrible news of Rhaegar's defeat, and the horrible deaths of Princess Elia, Prince Aegon, and Princess Rhaenys, and Prince Viserys. As of now, Lyanna's child is the true heir to the iron throne.

"How far out are the group of riders?" Brandon asked Arthur as he gave his daughter over to the wet nurse to be fed. His wife was currently preoccupied with his sister, and preparing for her birth, even though she just gave birth herself.

"About 30 minutes or so." Arthur reported to Brandon.

Arthur didn't know how things were going to play out. Lord Commander Gerold Hightower, and Ser Oswell Whent were outside guarding the entrance to the tower. He doesn't want to fight Ned Stark, but he will if he means his sister and niece harm.

Both Arthur and Brandon were brought out of their thoughts as they heard cries coming from the room Lyanna was set to give birth in, and in that same moment Elaena came rushing into the room.

"Lyanna's water just broke. Please watch over the baby, Brandon. Arthur, I need you to guard the door to the birthing room." Elaena ordered her husband and sworn shield.

It's been a tough year. With the death of her brother, Elaena doesn't know what the future holds for House Targaryen. All she can think about is the fact that she has to go on without her twin, her other half. Both her husband, and Lyanna have given her non-stop support, and her precious bundle of joy inherited her uncles shade of violet eyes, which makes her cry every time she looks into them.

Elaena rushed back into the birthing room as she heard Lyanna screaming her name. She can only hope Lyanna gives birth to a boy, and he survives, or else the future of House Targaryen will fall onto her daughter's shoulders.

"Ena, I don't think I can do this. It hurts so much." Lyanna said while trying to breathe through her contractions.

"Yes, you can! You can do this! Don't you want to give my little girl a cousin to play with? To grow up with?" Elaena said while trying to calm down her good-sister.

As if her good-sister giving birth isn't enough, Ser Arthur and her husband came running into the room with the wet nurse following behind them with her daughter.

"The group of riders are almost here, we need you to stay in here." Brandon said as he showed the wet nurse over to a chair so she can continue to feed his daughter.

"Is it Ned?" Elaena inquired.

"Yes!" Both Brandon, and Arthur spat simultaneously.

Brandon ran to the window, and peaked out, and noticed the group of riders coming closer to the tower. He knew it was only a matter of time before Lyanna gave birth, so he rushed to give his wife and sister a kiss, promised that he would come back, and ran downstairs so he could greet his brother.

Eddard Stark could see the Tower of Joy, and a few kings guard standing in front of it, keeping guard. What he did not expect to see was his older brother standing there looking directly at him.

"Is that your brother?" Howland Reed exclaimed to Ned. Before Baratheon even called his banners they got word that both Lord Stark and his heir had been killed for treason.

"Yes, unless my eyes deceive me." Ned barely whispered. He had mourned for days over the death of his father, and brother, and to see that his brother is still alive all he wants to know is how the hell he escaped the Red Keep? Ned also wants to know how Brandon will take the fact Robert ordered him to bring him Elaen's head, as if he'll actually follow through with that order.

The group of men approached the Tower of Joy with caution. Ned was the first of the group to dismount.

"Hello, brother." Brandon said while gritting his teeth as he walked towards his younger brother.

"How are you still alive? Why didn't you help father escape? Is Lyanna alright?" Ned started firing off question after question. Ned was extremely nervous, his brother stood in front of him looking angry as hell. He decided to step back, and give him some breathing room.

"I don't mean to be angry with you, Ned. I'm angry with the situation. If you or father would've listened to me, you would've heard the truth, and then the rebellion wouldn't have happened. If you wouldn't have accused me of lying, father might still be alive!" Brandon practically yelled at his brother, and by the look on his brother's face what he said hurt him.

"That's not fair, Brandon." Ned said, but his brother was right, if they had listened to him, none of this would've happened.

"I don't mean to blame you. It's hard to not blame Rhaegar either because if he went about this a different way then we wouldn't be in this situation. There's a lot of things you don't know, Ned." Brandon said. He was trying to prepare Ned for the truth.

"Then tell me the truth, and when can I see Lyanna?" Ned whispers-yelled at his brother. He was growing impatient, he just wanted answers. He had an inkling that Lyanna an off on her own, but his father was so adamant that his daughter was too honorable to do such a thing.

"I will tell you the truth, but I need to make sure that you're not here to harm Lyanna, and Elaena." Brandon said.

"I knew Elaena was pregnant, but Lyanna? I'm guessing it was consensual?" Ned asked while gritting his teeth. Ned could hear his sister screaming up in the tower.

"Elaena gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby girl. We haven't named her yet, but yes Lyanna is pregnant, and it was completely consensual. The Prince and Elia fell in love with Lyanna, Ned, and Lyanna tenured that love to both of them. Trust me, I don't understand but the rebellion was based on a lie, if father would've listened…" Brandon said before he broke down in tears. He had yet to mourn for his father. He had to watch as his father was burned alive, and the scene still haunts him in his sleep.

Brandon embraced his brother, ignoring the tension coming from the Kingsguard. Or course, Ned embraced him back just as fiercely. He knew that in the next couple of hours he would need to make some very important decisions. He needs his brother now more than ever.

Arthur Dayne stepped forward. "Are you sure he can be trusted, Brandon?" Arthur said, looking at Ned and his party of men in suspicion.

Brandon looked back at Arthur, but quickly turned back to his little brother. "Did Robert send you here to kill Elaena, and my daughter?" Brandon asked. He didn't want to ask, but he had to make sure his wife, and daughter weren't in danger. Ned may not want to kill them, but someone in his part of men could.

"He told me to, but I said that I would kill my own good-sister, and niece when pigs learned to fly. He wasn't very happy about that. Jon Arryn had to placate him." Ned said to reassure his brother of his intentions. "And no one in my part of men wants to kill them either." Ned added.

"AYE!" The men all said, simultaneously.

"I'm satisfied with that. How about you Arthur? Gerold? Oswell?" Brandon asked, turning to face the Kingsguard. They all huffed, clearly not like the situation, but before they could answer they heard a heart wrenching scream, and then the door to the tower banged open, and Elaena came running out.

"Brandon, it's Lyanna, the baby was born stillborn. She doesn't have long to live. There was so much blood." Elaena choked on a sob while looking back, and grimacing at the reality they have to face. She felt her husband embrace her, but when she turned around she came face to face with her good-brother.

"Ned." Elaena acknowledged him with a nod. They could talk later, now was not the time.

"Elaena, I want to apologize…" but before Ned could finish his sentence his good-sister cut him off with a wave of her hand.

"We can talk later, Ned, now is not the time. Lyanna needs you, and Brandon." Elaena explained. She was trying so hard to not break down in sobs. Her best friend more than likely was not going to make it. First her brother, then Elia, Rhaenys, and Aegon, and now Lyanna. She couldn't take anymore loss.

You, and one of your men may enter the tower with Princess Elaena, and Brandon, but you must leave your weapons at the door." Lord Commander Hightower said. If Lyanna gave birth to a stillborn babe that means that Princess Elaena's daughter is Rhaegar's heir, and must be protected at all cost.

Ned and Howland Reed nodded in agreement to the Lord Commander's terms. Once they left their swords at the door, they rushed forward, and followed Elaena and Brandon into the tower.

Howland stood outside of the room that Lyanna was in to give the family some privacy. When Ned entered the room he saw his sister laying in bed, and Elaena wasn't lying, it was covered in so much blood.

"Ned you came, you actually came." Lyanna cried reaching out for her brother.

Ned ran forward, knelt by the bed, and took his sister's hand. "Please forgive me Lya for not listening to you about Robert. If father and I had just listened then you wouldn't be…" Ned choked back a sob. Seeing his sister in this condition made his heart ache. He already lost his father, he doesn't want to lose his sister too.

"There's nothing to forgive, Ned." Lyanna said. She felt the bed dip on the other side, and saw her brother Brandon taking her other hand. She didn't want to die. She wanted to be brave, but at least now she'll be reunited with her child. She could feel life slowly leaving her body.

"I love you big brothers. Elaena, can you bring her over to me? Her face is the last thing I want to see. Did you name her yet?" Lyanna struggled to say as she looked between her brother, and good-sister.

"No, we haven't named her yet." Elaena said while she gave her daughter to her good-sister. Of course, her husband was right by Lyanna's side to help hold up the baby so her good-sister could see her niece better.

Lyanna looked at her niece, she felt like she was looking into Rhaegar's eyes. She tried not to cry, but the tears just continued to fall. "You should name her Vysenera." Lyanna whispered as loud as she could.

"Vysenera Lyanna Targaryen-Stark, first of her name, and rightful heir to the iron throne." Elaena said as she looked between her good-sister and daughter. She could tell Lyanna wouldn't last much longer.

Lyanna looked at all of her loved ones, and ten looked at her beautiful niece one last time, and took her final breath. Little VyseneraStark startled to cry as all the adults around her choked back their own sobs.

Both Ned and Brandon were inconsolable.

Ned looked up from where he was sitting at Lyanna's bed side and saw his brother crying and clutching onto his niece. He slowly got up, and moved to cover Lyanna's body with a clean sheet that the midwife just handed him. He would take Lyanan's body back to Winterfell, and bury her next to their father. He doesn't care that it goes against tradition.

"Brandon, what do we do now?" Ned asked as he watched his brother, and good-sister find comfort in their newborn daughter. Ned made a decision at that moment, he would do everything in his power to help his brother even if that meant going against Robert.

Brandon left his wife with his daughter, and walked over to where his brother was standing with Howland Reed who came in to pay his respects for the fallen she-wolf.

"What do you think? We must make some serious decisions. As of now my daughter is the rightful queen of the seven kingdoms, and she's also the heir to Winterfell." Brandon said. His brother just looked at him with a passive look.

"But Catelyn, and my son…" Ned said. He knew the law, but he assumed that since his brother died he would be the lord of Winterfell, but now that is not the case. This situation just keeps getting more complicated.

"You know the law, Ned; a daughter shall inherit before the brother. It doesn't matter what Hoster and Catelyn Tully say. The law is the law, and your niece is the rightful heir." Howlad added in before Brandon could say anything cheeky. Howland knew how he felt about the Tully's. They were just as power hungry as the Lannisters.

"I understand that, and don't worry about Catelyn and Hoster, I'll deal with them. I'm talking about my niece being the rightful queen of the seven kingdoms. I have already decided if she wants to stake her claim to the throne the north will stand behind her, including me." Ned said, completely exasperated. Brandon, Howland, and Elaena looked at him in complete shock. He just smiled slyly at them.

"You're going to turn your back on Robert?" Elaena asked her good-brother. While the men have been talking she has been thinking about how she is gonna keep her daughter safe, and there's only one option. She's gonna hate being separated from her, but it's only temporary, give or take 15 years.

"Yes I will go against Robert. I now see how my love blinded my ability to see him for who he truly was. I realized it when I saw him coming out of a brothel one day when we were riding towards Riverrun. He never loved Lyanna, he just loved the idea of her." Ned said. He already failed his sister, he refuses to fail his niece.

"There's only one solution. Brandon and I must cross the narrow sea and go into hiding along with my mother, and unborn sibling. We'll stay hidden until it's the right time to help our little Vysenera ascend to her rightful place." Elaena said, looking between her husband and good-brother.

"Ned, I need you to protect my daughter. I know it's a lot to ask..." but before Elaena could finish her sentence her husband openly yelled at her, which he has never done before.

"NO I REFUSE TO BE SEPERATED FROM MY DAUGHTER. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ELAENA? THE USURPER WILL WANT HER DEAD. WE CAN'T HAVE ANYMORE CHILDREN ENA, YOUR PREGNANCY ALMOST KILLED YOU, THE MAESTER EVEN SAID THAT YOU ARE NOW BARREN. PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME SAY GOODBYE TO HER." Brandon whisper-yelled at his wife. He was clutching his little girl to his chest as if she'd disappear any second. How could his wife ask him to do such a thing?

"You think I want this Brandon? You think I want to miss out on the opportunity to raise our daughter? Because guess what? I don't, but we must do whatever we can to protect our daughter, and you know she will be safer up north with Ned." Elaena exclaimed with a dramatic huff.

Brandon turned to his brother and contemplated his decision. He knew his wife was right, going into hiding, and being on the run isn't a suitable environment for a newborn child. He couldn't guarantee his daughter safety across the narrow sea. Yes, she'll be safer up north, and one day he will reunite with her.

"Will you protect her, Ned? I love my wife, don't get me wrong, but this little one has become my entire world. If anything bad would happen to her, I'd lose all my sanity." Brandon said as he looked at his daughter with so much love in his eyes.

"Of course I'll protect her. I actually have something I need to tell you. I had a bastard son, with Ashara. Vysenera will be raised alongside my true born son, and my base born son as well. I don't care what Catelyn or Hoster say. They are of my blood, and I will protect them even if it means I forfeit my life." Ned stated with confidence.

"Thank you, brother."

"Thank you, Ned."

Elaena took her daughter from her husband and handed her over to Ned to hold. She laughed when her good-brother looked at Helaena the same way Brandon did when he first held her. She knew right there, and then that her good-brother will raise her right, and keep her safe at any cost.

Ned looked in amazement at his niece. His niece, who was only a couple days old, already has the weight of a crown weighing her down, but he will make sure she is prepared, as she is destined for greatness.

"Your grace, there is a group of riders riding here from the direction of the Sunspear. Oberyn Martell is leading the group." Arthur stated as he was trying to catch his breath.

"He won't hurt me or Vysenera, Arthur. He is the one who is getting us passage across the Narrow Sea. We had contingency plans already made if something bad happened. Rhaegar wanted to make sure we got away safely, and I want Oberyn to meet his goddaughter." Elaena said as she chuckled at the look of pure shock on everyone's faces.

Elaena ignored the cries of outrage from her husband and good-brother as she hurriedly gathered her things so they could leave. In less than an hour she would have to leave her daughter behind, she doesn't know how she's gonna survive without her, but she must remain strong, if not for herself, for her daughter.

Elaena took her daughter from Ned, and clutched her to her chest as she made her way out of the tower. As she exited the tower, she was greeted with the smiling face of her best friend, Oberyn Martell.

"ENA!" Oberyn whisper-shouted as he noticed the small bundle clutched to her chest. For everything that she has been through, the princess looked beautiful. "Motherhood suits you, Ena." Oberyn added.

"It's so good to see you, Oberyn. I'm so sorry about Elia, Rhaenys, and Aegon. When I found out I couldn't believe it, we had their escape perfectly planned out. They were supposed to escape with Prince Lewyn, and make their way to Dorne. Do you know what went wrong? Do you know who murdered them?" Elaena said while trying to choke back her sobs as she embraced Oberyn.

Oberyn embraced Elaena back with a fierceness that only a brother would do for his sister, and that was what Elaena was to Oberyn, a sister in all but blood. Dorne would now stand behind Elaena and the rightful heir, he would make sure of it.

"I don't mean to rush you, but we are on a tight schedule, Ena. I only had a small window of time to get you a ship to take you to Dragonstone before you cross the narrow sea, so make your arrangements fast." Oberyn alerted the now exiled princess.

"Oberyn will you please hold her while I talk to the Queensguard. By the way Oberyn, meet your goddaughter, Vysenera Targaryen-Stark." Elaena said quickly as she rushed over to her husband who was talking to Ned, Arthur Dayne, and Oswell Whent. Oberyn just nodded and took the small bundle. She'll make a beautiful queen one day, Oberyn thought to himself.

Elaena made her way over to her husband , good-brother, and the Queensguard. She needed to figure out who was going with her daughter up north, and who was going with her to Dragonstone, and then across the Narrow Seas.

"Have you figured out who is going with Ned to the north, and who is going with us to Dragonstone, and then across the Narrow Sea?" Elaena asked her husband. She knew her husband was taking the separation hard, both of them will have to miss out on their daughter growing up. It's a hard thing to come to terms with.

"We have decided that Ser Arthur, and Ser Oswell will go up north to protect Vysenera, and Ser Gerold will go with you, and Brandon to Dragonstone before you cross the Narrow Sea." Ned said before his brother could. He could tell his brother was not handling this situation very well, all he's been doing for the last ten minutes is staring up at the Tower of Joy, specifically the window in the room Lyanna died in.

"I'll be fine, my wife, brother." Brandon said as he grasped his brother's shoulder, and looked over to where Oberyn was standing cooing over his daughter with his paramour, Ellaria Sand. He always thought that when they went into hiding his daughter would be coming along, so he is taking this separation a little harder, and in reality his wife had time to come to terms with the separation, when he didn't.

"That is perfectly fine with me, but I have some guidelines on how I want my daughter to be raised, Ned." Brandon gave his brother a pointed look.

His daughter may be from both the north and the south, but he wants his daughter to be raised to learn how to fight. With his brother marrying Lady Catelyn he is worried that the wretched woman will raise his daughter to be a dainty flower who dreams of knights in shining armor, and falling in love with a prince. His daughter is the future queen of the seven kingdoms, he wants to make sure his daughter is prepared for the inevitable.

"Arthur, did you get a response from your sister on my offer?" Brandon turned around, and asked the knight.

"I did, and she said yes. She would love to help raise the little princess. You just need to have Ned stop by Starfall, and pick her up. She will be disguised as a septa. That way it doesn't look too suspicious." Arthur assured him. "She also said that she doesn't want the trout bitch to raise her future queen." Arthur added with a snort only to get a heated glare from Ned.

"Don't talk about my wife that way, Dayne. I don't like her that much right now, but I'm sure once she gets used to her new home, she will acclimate, and learn to accept the traditions and customs of the north." Ned said with very little confidence. He can understand why his brother wants both Dayne siblings involved in his niece's upbringing, they will make sure she is being raised the way his brother expects his daughter to be raised.

"I'm warning you now Ned, if your lady wife..." Brandon started to say until his wife covered his mouth and gave him a very heated glare that was so sharp it could instantly kill you.

"Stop talking about Lady Catelyn so badly, I won't judge her for how she acted towards me in the past, but Ned, I expect her to respect Arthur and Ashara's place in my daughter's life, and I expect you to raise her knowing her full heritage." Elaena said.

"I will respect your guidelines, and wishes, and will try my hardest to reign in my wife. As far as her heritage, she will be made aware of what it is, but shouldn't we be getting around to leave?" Ned said while scratching the back of his neck. He was looking around trying to see who had his niece, and found that Oberyn still had his niece clutched to his chest.

"Yes we should be preparing to leave. Ned go, and prepare your men while Elaena, and I say our final goodbyes to Vysenera." Brandon said while trying to hold back his tears. Ned only looked at him with pity. "Don't look at me like that!" Brandon added as he turned around, and walked towards Oberyn to collect his daughter.

"Oberyn, do you mind? Ned is preparing his men to leave, I assume you must prepare your men, and our horses?" Brandon asked as he plucked his daughter from her godfather's fierce hold. He just looked down at his daughter who was looking around at everything in wonder.

"My men are already prepared, but I will double check to see if your horses are ready for departure." Oberyn said as he walked away from his goddaughter. He knew it would be many years until he saw the little girl again, but when the time is right he will be there to help her fulfill whatever fate has destined her for.

Brandon and Elaena stood together as they both gave their daughter endless kisses, well wishes, and promises of a reunion when the time was right. They know that their daughter doesn't understand what is happening right now, or what they are saying truly means, but it gives them both a certain amount of comfort knowing that their daughter at least heard their promises.

"It's time to go now, my love. I will be right with you, I'm going to go give her to Ned." Brandon reassured his wife who was seconds away from breaking down. He had to be strong for his wife, and for his daughter. The next ten plus years are not going to be easy, but the promise of being reunited with his daughter one day is what will keep him going.

Elaena gave her daughter one last kiss before she walked away towards Oberyn, and his group of men. She was trying so hard to not break down, but as soon as she made eye contact with Oberyn, she fell to her knees and broke down in heart-wrenching sobs.

"ELAENA!" Overyn cried.

Seeing Elaena break down in sobs, broke something in Oberyn. His hatred for the Lannister and the Usurper only grew bigger. It's because of them that his best friend has to say goodbye to her daughter. It's because of them that she will miss out on being a mother. He would wait, and when the right time came he would help his goddaughter avenge her family, and take her rightful place on the iron throne.

Brandon heard his wife's sobs, but he didn't turn around because he knew if he did he would just go back, and not give his daughter to Ned. As he walked closer to where Ned stood with his group of men he looked down at his daughter and kissed her forehead. This would be the last time he'd see her as a baby, the next time he'll see her she'll be a grown woman.

"Ned." Brandon briefly greeted his brother with a nod. He slowly handed his daughter over to Ned, and as soon as she was in his arms, he walked away. He cried, oh how he cried, but he quickly composed himself when he reminded himself that he must be strong for his wife. He didn't dare to look back.

Ned watched as his brother walked away. He could tell he was crying, but knowing his brother he'd quickly compose himself so he could comfort Elaena. Ned looked down to his niece who was sleeping, and wondered what he was going to tell Robert about his niece when he arrived in Kings Land. If Robert threatens his niece even once, their already fractured friendship will be completely over.

"Is this her, Ned?" Lord William Dustin asked. He hadn't been privy to any of the conversations Ned has had with his brother, and good-sister, but he is curious as to what the state of things are. "What is going to happen now? What are the plans? And what do you plan on doing about Robert?" He added.

Ned only sighed heavily. "The plans are simple. I'm going to raise my niece to become the next wardeness of the north, and if she so happens to want to take her rightful place on the iron throne, I won't stop her, and to be honest? I have no idea what I'm going to do about Robert! Our friendship is already fractured. He started a rebellion based on a lie, and because of it my father, and sister died, and now my brother, and good-sister have to go into hiding." Ned ranted on and on.

He felt completely overwhelmed, and on top of having to worry about Robert, he had to worry about his Lady wife. He huffed in frustration, he has no idea how he's going to explain this situation to his wife, and good-father. He only wishes he could go back to when life wasn't so complicated.

Ned quickly pulled himself together as he handed his niece over to the wet nurse, Wylla Sand. It was decided that she will come up north with his niece, and help raise her along with Ashara Dayne.

"Is everyone ready to go? We have to make a pit stop at Starfall to pick up Ashara Dayne, and then we can head straight for Kings Landing." Ned said to his group of men. He watched as Arthur Dayne strapped his niece to his chest, so she can safely travel with them since they don't have a carriage for her to travel in.

"Let's move out!" Ned shouted. He knew that his life would never be the same after today, but he was determined to make the best of it.

Starfall, 283 AC

Ned could see Ashara standing outside the entrance of the castle with their son. He knew bringing Ashara north wouldn't settle well with Catelyn, but his brother, and good-sister wanted Ashara to help raise his niece, and he couldn't say no to them.

As Ned dismounted he started to get nervous. "Hello, Ashara, Lord Dayne." Ned said, nodding to both of them. He stood in front of Ashara, and held out his hands to take his son.

"What's his name?" Ned asked. Ashara just looked at him indifferently. Those eyes used to look at him with so much love, and oh how he still loved her.

"His name is Jon, and I expect your lady wife to respect his existence, Ned. He was born way before you knew you were set to marry Lady Catelyn. I also expect her to respect Elaena's daughter, knowing your lady wife, she will try to control the child, and I won't allow that to happen." Ashara said with a pointed look at the man she still loved.

Ashara knew living in the same household with Ned, knowing she couldn't be with him would be hard, but she promised her best friend that she would be there to help raise her child. Where is Arthur, and the Little Princess? Ashara thought to herself. She was brought out of her thoughts when she looked up, and came face to face with her brother, Arthur Dayne.

Arthur carefully undid the strap that kept little Vysenera strapped to his chest. Over the last couple weeks of traveling he has grown very attached to her. He carefully handed Vysenera over to his sister, who had tears in her eyes at seeing the child. He knew that she would be another mother figure to the child.

"She's so beautiful, Arthur. She's the perfect mix between Brandon, and Elaena." Ashara cooed over Helaena. Suddenly Ashara watched as Vysenera opened her eyes, and she gasped. "Oh, her eyes! She has Rhaegar's shade of violet." Ashara exclaimed.

"Yes, Elaena was just as shocked as you were. She cried whenever she would look into Vysenera's eyes. She didn't take the death of her twin brother very well." Arthur said looking down at Vysenera who was looking around with curiosity evident in her violet eyes.

"Are you sure you're going to be okay living up north? Are you gonna be able to handle both Jon and Vysenera?" Arthur asked his sister who was handing Vysenera over to the wet nurse, hesitantly.

"I'm positive I can handle living up there, and help raise Jon and Vysenera. Elaena gave me strict instructions on how she wants Vysenera raised. She didn't tell Ned this, but she wants Lady Catelyn nowhere near her child. I'm gonna have to tell him, and I don't know how he is going to take it." Ashara said. She had to pull him to the side to tell him the last part. Elaena was very adamant in her letter that under no circumstances is Lady Catelyn supposed to have any part in Vysenera's upbringing. It's bound to cause drama.

"Are you serious?" Arthur whispered to his sister. Ned was going to be outraged, and this will just cause unnecessary tension between everyone.

"I am not going to allow that woman to raise the future queen of the seven kingdoms to be some weak southern woman who believes her only place is to be a broodmare!" Ashara yelled, catching the attention of Ned. Ashara took back Helaena from the wet nurse and hugged her to her chest, she would make sure that Vysenera would grow up to be a warrior queen, just like her father and uncles imagined her to be.

Ned noticed the Dayne siblings arguing, and he also noticed how Ashara was clutching little Vysenera to her chest as if someone would take her away from her. He hopes Ashara, and his Lady wife can become friends eventually, but maybe that's asking too much from them.

"Are you guys going to leave soon, or should I set up some rooms for you to stay the night?" Lord Dayne inquired from the Northern Lord. He was not happy about the situation Arthur, and Ashara got themselves in, but he is hoping at some point Vysenera can be fostered here in Dorne.

"No, we'll be leaving in the next hour. We must make all haste to Kings Landing. I want to get the confrontation with Robert out of the way before I have to deal with my Lady Wife, and Hoster Tully." Ned said, completely feeling defeated.

"She can't be mad at you. Jon was born when you were promised to Ashara, you had no idea that you'd end up marrying Catelyn Tully, and good luck with Robert." Lord Dayne said before he walked away to talk to a group of household guards.

Ned signed heavily as he ran his fingers through his hair. He needs to go see what the Dayne siblings are still arguing about. It can't be anything good, he thought to himself.

"Is there a problem?" Ned said as he gestured for Ashara to hand him his niece. He saw the hesitation before she handed her over to him.

"Yes there's a problem!" Ashara exclaimed as she turned to face Ned. She couldn't show Ned the letter Elaena sent her because she burned it as soon as she was done reading it, but it only showed how much Elaena detested Ned's wife.

Before Ashara could continue on her tirade, Arthur interrupted her. "We were just arguing about how much Lady Catelyn will be involved in Vysenera's upbringing. Ashara got a letter from Elaena with strict instructions that under no circumstances is Lady Catelyn allowed to be involved in Vysenera's upbringing. Apparently Brandon feels the same way." Arthur murmured trying to not make eye contact with the clearly outraged Lord Regent.

"And pray tell why she didn't tell me this when I saw her at the Tower of Joy? And how can she not be involved? That is simply impossible." Ned said, clearly outraged. He knew his good-sister, and his brother didn't particularly like Catelyn, but to find out that they don't want Catelyn involved at all is a little petty.

"Because she absolutely detests Catelyn. Catelyn still feels like she was spited when her betrothal to Brandon fell through. Catelyn was absolutely obsessed with him, and she embarrassed both Elaena and Brandon in front of the entire seven kingdoms at their wedding feast. You may think it's petty, but I'm afraid Catelyn will take her jealousy, and insecurities out on Vysenera, and I won't allow that to happen." Ashara cried out in frustration.

Ned just stood there gaping at both Ashara, and Arthur. He didn't think Catelyn would take out anything on Vysenera. She is an innocent child, and as the future wardeness of the north, Catelyn must respect Vysenera. If she can't learn to do that then they will have huge problems.

"I can't promise she won't be involved, we just need to take it day by day. First we have to deal with Robert first, then we can worry about Catelyn. Just allow me to handle my wife, we don't need this to cause unnecessary drama, and tension." Ned said as he handed Vysenera back to Ashara who was gonna handle her on the way to Kings Landing.

This seemed to placate both Ashar, and Arthur. "We leave in 10 minutes to make our way to Kings Landing." Ned reminded the Dayne siblings as he walked to double check that his group of riders were prepared for the journey.

"Let's do what Ned said, and take it day by day, sister." Arthur said as he looked down at Vysenera who was sleeping. She looked so innocent.

"Fine, but this isn't over, not one bit." Ashara said as she motioned for Arthur to help her strap Vysenera to her chest for the upcoming journey.

Arthur just heavily sighed in annoyance, he knows Ned hopes that Ashara, and Catelyn could become friends one day, but his sister is loyal to Elaena, and won't ignore the demands she made for her daughter. Besides Ashara has her own reason as to why she doesn't like Catelyn Tully, and Arthur can't fault her for that.

"Just bite your tongue for now, Ashara. We need to make sure Vysenera is kept safe from Robert Baratheon, first." Arthur scolded his sister. Ashara just rolled her eyes in return.

Ashara nodded as Arthur helped her onto her horse. She was to ride next to Ned for the duration of the journey, so he can keep an eye on his niece. She is not looking forward to the next couple of weeks.

"Are you ready? I know you've decided to not be disguised as a septa, so I'm gonna have to explain to Robert that you're coming up north to help raise our son. That should placate him on that issue." Ned said as he mounted his horse. He had Jon strapped to his chest since Ashara didn't want to part with his niece.

"That's understandable, we just need to make sure that your new king doesn't threaten Vysenera, and try to kill her." Ashara said. She was worried, but who wouldn't be. Ned will have to do everything in his power to stop Robert from attempting to murder his niece, and she means everything.

As soon as Ned kicked his horse into a trot, Ashara knew the game of thrones had officially begun, and she knew it would only be an uphill battle from that day on. But she knew one thing, she'd do anything to make sure Vysenera won.

One Month Later

Kings Landing, 283 AC

Robert Baratheon paced back and forth in the small council chamber waiting for word of the arrival of Ned Stark. When Robert first talked to Ned in the throne room before he departed for Dorne he specifically said he wanted the head of Elaena Targaryen-Stark. He didn't care that she was Ned's good-sister, she was a Targaryen, and he wanted all of the dragonspawn dead, but apparently Elaena got away with her husband Brandon Stark, who has officially been named a traitor, much to Ned's protest.

If that wasn't bad enough, Lord Varys got word from his little birds that Elaena had given birth to a child, a little girl, and according to Varys, Ned wants to take her north, and he simply won't allow it. He will call for her death, he doesn't care that she has Stark blood running through her veins. Better to kill her now, then have her start a rebellion in 15 years to fight for her family's throne.

"You will upset the north if you go and call for the death of Ned's niece, I implore you to see reason, Robert. If you do this, you will lose your friendship with Ned, he has already lost enough as it is." Jon Arryn stood up, and practically begged the man he looked to as a son in all but blood. Robert was being irrational, and he's scared that he will cause another war to break out. They can't go to war with the north, the realm could not bear it.

Before Robert could respond there was a knock on the door, and a guard came in. "Your grace, Ned Stark and his group of men were spotted making their way to the Red Keep. It would seem that Ashara Dayne is also present in the group of riders." the guard reported.

"Thank you, I will be right there, waiting." Robert dismissed the guard with a wave of his hand. The upcoming confrontation with Ned is not something he is looking forward to, but he must secure his reign, and to do that every Targaryen must die.

"Let's get this over with." Jon Arryn murmured. The friendship between Robert, and Ned was already fractured, and this confrontation will only break it further, but he's gonna do everything in his power to make sure Robert doesn't kill that child, and cause another war.

Ned was riding towards the Red Keep, and his nerves were getting the better of him. This is where his father lost his life, and his brother barely escaped with his intact.

"Ned, are you alright?" Lord Grover asked, bringing him out the trance he seemed to be in. He looked at him with concern clear as day in his eyes. He could tell that Ned was nervous. They were going into the lion's den, and the safety of his niece was at risk.

"I'll be alright. I'm just nervous of Robert's reaction to Vysenera. He will most likely want her dead, and I know that I will have to go against him if he threatens Vysenera. I've lost enough because of him, I can't lose my niece, too." Ned said while trying to keep the tears from falling.

Ned knew that a confrontation was coming, and the northern army was still here waiting for him to lead them back north, so he asked Lord Umber, Lord Grover, Lord Manderly, and Lord Karstark to accompany him to the Red Keep. They were made aware of his niece's existence, and like Lord Dustin they said Vysenera should stay as the heir to the north.

"Are you sure Vysenera will be safe once we enter the Red Keep?" Lord Karastak asked his liege lord. Just like the rest of the Lords in the group of riders, he was made privy to the real truth behind the rebellion. To say he was shocked was an understatement. If only things worked out a different way.

"I don't know Lord Karstark. That is why I had you, and my most trusted Lords come with me, because I knew you guys would be the one to take up arms in defense of my niece if Robert threatened her life." Ned said as his face darkened. A rage was stirring within him, and it's only a matter of time before he completely loses it.

"Aye! We'll keep her safe. She is our future wardeness afterall, an attempt on her life is considered an act of war, and I don't think the usurper could handle a war with the north at this current time." Lord Umber factly stated.

Ned only nodded to Lord Umber as his group of men made their way into the entrance courtyard of the Red Keep. He looked around, and he made eye contact with Jon Arryn, the man who slowly, but surely became a second father figure to him. Ned dismounted, and made his way over to Ashara, he wanted to keep his niece close to him. He had a guard escort Ashara back to camp where she will look after their son.

"Jon, it's been awhile. How is everything?" Ned asked. He could tell the aging man was not having a good day.

"It could be better, Ned. I will tell you before you go in there that Robert is not going to cooperate, I will try everything I can to placate him, but you may have to go as far as to threaten him with war to save the life of your niece." Jon Arryn said as he looked down at the small child in Ned's arm. She was a beautiful little thing, he would hate to see her die.

"Let's get this over with, Jon. If I have to threaten independence, and make my niece a queen I will. I refuse to stand down, I have lost enough because of Robert." Ned basically spat out. You could tell the growing hatred he felt for Robert in his eyes.

Jon Arryn led the group through the Red Keep to the throne room where Robert was waiting for them. The closer they got to the throne room, the thicker the tension became.

Ned was standing in front of the throne room doors, and it was at that moment he knew what he had to do. The northern lords already voted in secret, so he went into this knowing that every single northern lord supports him. He just hoped that they make it out of the Red Keep with their lives.

Robert sat on the Iron Throne as he watched Ned, and his group make their way into the throne room. He watched as the northern lords surrounded Ned to show a united front, and that alone made Robert wary. Why did Ned even feel the need to bring extra people here? He thought to himself.

"Welcome to the Red Keep, Ned. I assume that you came back with what I asked for?" Robert looked down at the man he once called his best friend, but over the last year their friendship has slowly fractured.

"If you're asking if I brought you the head of Elaena Targaryen then I'm sorry to disappoint you Robert, but she escaped before I even made it to the Tower of Joy." Ned lied through his teeth.

"Well that's too bad. No need to worry, she'll eventually meet her end, but I did get word from Lord Varys that you brought me something better. Hand over the babe, Ned. She is a Targaryen, and a threat to my reign. You may be my friend, but I have no other choice." He said as he motioned for his guard to bring him the child.

"You even touch a hair on her head Robert, and I will call for war!" Ned roared.

Robert flinched for a moment, he has never seen the quiet northern lord this angry before. "I am the king Ned, and what you are saying is treason." Robert said he couldn't afford to go to war with the north, not when the realm is so unstable.

Ned paused for a moment as he looked Robert in the eyes. He knew that his friendship with him was over. He made eye contact with the Lords who followed him here to the Red Keep, they nodded to him in encouragement.

"You are not my king." Ned spat as the rage within him festered.

"I am your king. You pledged your loyalty to me! We fought against the Targaryen's together, or did you forget what they did to Lyanna?" Robert roared as he stood up from the throne.

"You mean the rebellion that was based on a lie! Let me put it to you straight Robert, Rhaegar never kidnapped Lyanna, she went willingly. She fell in love with Rhaegar and Elia, and the three of them eloped in secret. My sister never loved you, and it was you who did this. Your obsession with my sister is what caused this. I have lost enough because of you which is why the north will be separating from the seven kingdoms." Ned said. He waited in trepidation for Robert to do something.

Ned watched as Robert lunged forward to attack him, but the northern lords surrounded him and his niece, and knocked Robert back on his ass. Lord Umber, and Lord Karstark went to unsheathed their long swords in defense of their king regent, and future queen.

Jon Arryn helped Robert to his feet. He did not expect this, he did not expect Ned Stark to call for the north's independence in defense of his helpless niece. If only Robert didn't threaten the child, because it's clear as day that Ned loves the girl simply by the way he looks at her. He sighed in defeat. There was no way to salvage this situation.

"When did you decide to call for the north's independence? When did you plot your treason? Huh Ned? Was this your plan all along, and I know you're lying about Lyanna. She would never willingly go, she loved me." Robert said as he tried to pull it together. He won't say it out loud, but Ned's word hurt him to the core. He doesn't believe that Lyanna went willingly. He refused to believe it.

Flashback:

North Encampment

Kings Landing, 283 AC

"Why have you called us here for this meeting Lord Stark? Surely we must be getting home soon, winter is coming after all." Lord Glover asked.

"I called you here to tell you that the rebellion was based on a lie. My sister, Lady Lyanna Stark fell in love with Prince Rhaegar, and Princess Elia, and they eloped in secret. Of course, Princess Elaena Targaryen-Stark supported the trio. Somehow Robert found out, so Rhaegar took both Lyanna and Elaena to Dorne because he had a feeling war would break out, and it did. It's hard to say, but my brother Brandon tried to tell my father, and I the truth, but we accused him of lying. If only we had listened to him, maybe none of this would have happened." Ned explained to the present Lords who were looking at him with complete shock.

"We truly appreciate that you told us the truth, and don't get me wrong, I'm mad that my youngest son died for nothing, but we really should be preparing to head home, our families need us." Lord Forrester said.

"That's not the only reason why I called you here for this meeting, my lords. We have a major decision to make." Ned said as he waved to Wylla to come, and bring his niece forth.

All the northern lords watched as a middle aged woman walked up to their liege lord, and handed him a small bundle that they assumed was a child. Every single one of the lords present were absolutely confused.

"My lord, did you sire a bastard?" Lord Reed asked.

Ned avoided that question, temporarily. "This is my niece, Vysenera Lyanna Targaryen-Stark. She is the trueborn daughter of Brandon Stark and Elaena Targaryen, and she is not only the rightful heir to the north, but also to the iron throne." Ned informed everyone. All the lords sat there openly gaping at their liege lord in complete, and utter shock. They were not expecting this.

"Are you okay with your niece inheriting the north over your son? The law is the law, but you can always dispute the line of succession." Lord Mormont said. He, like all the other lords, was ready to go home, but Ned was correct, they had an important decision to make.

"My niece's safety is in question. As of right now my brother, and good-sister are going into hiding, and they have tasked me with raising their daughter. When I go to the Red Keep to give Robert the news of Lyanna's death, he will more than likely call for Vysenera's death, and I cannot allow that to happen." Ned stated with new found confidence.

"Calling for her death is an act of war!" Lord Ryswell shouted, which only had the other northern lords yelling in agreement.

"Oi! Our liege lord is clearly trying to tell us something important! SHUT YA DAMN MOUTHS!" Lord Umber stood, and yelled at his fellow lords.

Ned nodded in thanks. "When I go to the Red Keep I am going to call for the north's independence. I refuse to allow Robert to have control over the north, or control over my niece. Robert stood by, and ordered the slaughter of two innocent children, Princess Rhaenys, and Prince Aegon. Do you wanna know something? He will order for someone to do the same to your future wardeness!" Ned shouted.

"Blasphemy!"

"I'll kill him myself if he dares to lay a hand on the heir to the north!"

"Fuck the usurper! Why should he rule over me and mine?"

They were just a few of the responses Ned received. He wasn't shocked by them, he knew how his fellow lords felt about the south. It only made getting their vote for independence that easy.

"I'm calling for a vote to call for the north's independence, and to name my niece, Vysernera as the future queen in the north, and myself as King Regent!" Ned said but before everyone could put their vote forth, they were interrupted.

"What about your Lady wife? Will she have a problem with this? Her father is a power-hungry fool, and will not like the fact that his daughter's children won't inherit the north." Lord Manderly said. He knew how his liege lord felt about his lady wife, there is no love there. Everyone knows how obsessed Catelyn Tully was with Brandon Stark, the woman will only cause problems for Brandon Stark's daughter.

"I will handle my lady wife. The law is the law, and if she can't accept that then I will have no choice but to set her aside, which leads me to another thing I must tell you. As you all know I was once promised to Ashara Dayne, and now I'm married to Catelyn Tully, but at the tourney at Harrenhal, one thing led to another, and I now have to announce the birth of my bastard son, Jon Snow. He will be raised alongside Vysenera." Ned said, waiting for the lords to condemn him, but they all just shrugged.

"We can't condemn you, Lord Stark. Some of us here have also sired bastards, and that would be hypocritical of us. I say we call for a vote!" Lord Whitehall said.

Ned heavily sighed, happy over the fact that the lords weren't upset over the fact that the honorable Ned Stake sired a bastard.

"Let's vote. All for independence say Aye, all for no independence say Nay." Ned said.

Every single northern lord voted to call for the north's independence, and swore fealty to their future queen, Vysenera Targaryen-Stark.

(Flashback Over)

"I only called for the north's independence because I knew you would threaten my niece. You're not the same man that I used to be friends with. I allowed my love for you to blind me from seeing who you truly are, Robert Baratheon. You will give the north its independence, or I will call for war. It's your choice, but we know you can't go to war with the north without making the realm more unstable." Ned spat.

Ned was finally at his breaking point. The war changed them both, it changed Ned for the better, but it changed Robert in the worse way. He not only became more arrogant, he became a kinslayer. He slaughtered innocent children, and laughed about it with other southern lords.

Jon Arryn saw no solution to this situation where Ned would happily agree to keep the north as part of the seven kingdoms. Seeing two men who used to see each other as brother's, to now look at one another with pure hatred was so shocking he didn't know what to say, or what to do.

Ned refused to back down, he has already made his decision, and every single northern lord has agreed to call for independence. He watched as Jon Arryn pulled Robert over to the side to discuss what he assumes to be their next move, and by the look on Robert's face, he can tell that he is not happy with whatever Jon is suggesting.

After what felt like hours, Robert and Jon finally seemed to come to a decision. "I do not like this Jon, I have a right to call for the child's death. Why aren't you backing me?" Robert asked his Lord Hand.

"Because she is just that, a child. I already had to watch you call for the slaughter of two innocent children already, I refuse to sit back, and watch you slaughter another simply because her mother was the sister to the man you hate. I'm going to tell you this now Robert, get it together, or I'll pull my support and you can find yourself a new Lord Hand." Jon Arryn said as he gave a pointed look to Robert.

Robert gritted his teeth. He was backed into a corner. Damn, NedStark, he thought to himself. He had no other choice but to allow the north to have its independence.

"I grant the north its independence." Robert said. For now, he thought to himself. He will allow them to have this short victory, but when they're comfortable up there in their frozen wasteland, that is when he will strike, and bring the north back into the fold, and if they don't bend the knee, then he has no problem killing every last Stark, and give the north to a family who is loyal to him, and the crown.

Jon Arryn sighed in relief, happy that Robert finally saw some sense, but as he looked at Robert, he had a gut feeling that this was far from over. He was brought out of his trance when he heard someone clear his throat, only to see that it was Ned. What now? he thought to himself.

"I would like that in writing. Of course, we'll have to go over trade agreements, and how many men we expect you to send to the wall." Ned said. He knew Robert only looked at this as a temporary thing. He wasn't stupid. He knew Robert Baratheon better than Robert knew himself. Robert will wait for the right time to strike, but when that time comes he'll make sure the north is battle ready.

"Then let us convene in the small council chamber, and discuss a treaty between the northern kingdom and the southern kingdom." Robert said through gritted teeth.

"My niece will be taken back to the northern encampment first. I trust that is alright, King Robert." Ned said with a raised eyebrow. As of right now, he was the king regent, and his niece was the future queen of the north, and her safety was more important now more than ever.

"Of course, I'm sure the child has no place in such an important meeting." Robert said as he looked at the child with disgust.

Ned saw the way Robert looked at his niece, and it made him feel uneasy. He clutched her closer to his chest, as he turned to his fellow northern lords, and they all nodded in silent agreement. Vysenera Targaryen-Stark was the most important person in the north, and gods be damned if anyone tried to harm their future queen.

"Lord Umber, and Lord Karstark, please escort crown Princess Vysenera to Ashara, and Arthur Dayne, and please gather the northern lords, and give them the status of our current state of affairs." Ned said to his two most trusted lords.

Ned carefully handed his niece over to a very happy looking Lord Karstark who looked at the princess in complete wonder. It made him softly chuckle. Both lords were practically cooing over the small babe.

"Jared, please take four of your men and escort Lord Karstark, Lord Umber, and the Crown Princess to Ashara Dayne, she will then follow you to the war tent where you will stand guard of the princess until I return, that is a direct order." Ned looked at the captain of his guard who just nodded to him in agreement.

"The last four men of your guard will guard and escort me, Lord Manderly, and Lord Grover back to the encampment once the peace treaty has been completed, and signed." Ned added.

"Of course, your grace." Jared said as he escorted the Lords, and the crown princess safely out of the Red Keep. He knew things would never be the same, and for the first time in 300 years the north finally has its independence.

"Shall we proceed, Lord Arryn?" Lord Manderly awkwardly said as Ned Stark, and Robert Baratheon stared one another down.

Jon Arryn loudly cleared his throat, gaining the attention of both King Robert, and King Regent Eddard. "Shall we make our way to the small council chamber? I for one would like to get this over with, I have other work to do today!" Jon said as he gave a pointed look to both Robert, and Ned.

"Of course, right this way." Robert said as he stormed off in the direction of the small council chamber.

And so it begins, Ned thought to himself.

North Encampment

Kings Landing, 283 AC

"Did you know that Ned was going to do that?" Lord Karstark asked Lord Umber. He was still in a state of shock over what just happened in the throne room of the Red Keep.

"No I did not, I'm just as shocked as you are. I didn't even know the quiet wolf had it in him to be that cunning. I can tell you one thing, this war changed Ned Stark, for the better." Lord Umber stated.

"I quite agree with you, my lords. It seems our King Regent will do just about anything to protect the crown princess at any costs. I do know that things are about to change, and I'm looking forward to seeing what our King will do with the north." Jared Caseel added in as he, and the Lords made their way through the northern encampment.

"Lord Umber, Lord Karstark! Where is Lord Stark?" Lord Umber heard someone speak from behind them, only to see Ser Arthur Dayne running their way.

"He is still in the Red Keep, negotiating a peace treaty between the northern kingdom, and southern kingdom. We have strict orders to hand the crown princess over to your sister, and to escort them both to the war tent to await our king regent's arrival." Lord Karstark said as he looked down to see that the princess was now wide awake, looking around with her vivid purple eyes. He will say one thing, his future queen will be a true northern beauty.

"Arthur! Arthur! Arthur!" Arthur Dayne heard his sister screaming his name as he turned around to see her running as gracefully as she could towards them. He walked towards her to steady her on her feet, as he watched her catch her breath.

"Where is Ned? It's been close to 3 hours since he's been gone. I'm worried about Vysenera, oh Arthur, what if the Usurper killed her! I could not bear it." Ashara Dayne cried as she clung to her older brother until she steadied herself, and turned around to see that she was in the presence of Lord Umber, and Lord Karstark.

If they're here, then where is Vysenera? Ashara thought to herself as she looked between the lords frantically until she saw the small bundle in Lord Karstark's arm.

"Oh my god, there she is. Thank you for bringing her back Lord Karstark." Ashara said as she gestured for him to carefully hand her over. Ashara felt a huge wave of relief settle over her as the princess was put into arms. "Thank god, she's safe." Ashara sighed, in relief.

"A lot of things happened in the Red Keep, Lady Ashara, and we are under strict orders to escort you, and the crown princess to the war tent to await the king regent's arrival." Lord Umber said to the clearly confused lady. "I assure you everything will be explained in due time." Lord Umber reassured Ashara.

Ashara only nodded in silent agreement. Whatever Ned did, and said in the Red Keep was clearly life changing, especially if the northern lords are calling him the king regent.

"Before we make our way to the war tent we need to stop by my tent so the wet nurse can feed Vysenera, she is starting to fuss." Ashara said as she tried to calm down the fussing princess.

"Of course, then we must make our way to the war tent. We shall stand guard at your tent as the wet nurse feeds the princess." Lord Umber said as he, Lord Karstark, Arthur Dayne, and the northern guards were guided to the tent by Ashara Dayne.

After waiting for the princess to be fed, the group made their way to the war tent to await the arrival of their king regent.

As Ashara walked into the war tent Lord Umber led her to the front table where she could sit, and allow the fellow northern lords to come up, and see their future queen.

"Can I have everyone's attention!" Lord Umber shouted, but everyone just kept talking. "Oi! I need everyone to stop what they're doing, so I can give you damn fools the current status of our current state of affairs. Now first, I'd like to introduce Ashara Dayne, she will be coming up north to help Ned raise his niece, and his son." Lord Umber pointed to where Ashara was sitting at the high table.

All the lords looked up at her in curiosity, but they were more curious about the little princess more than anything like what she looked like? What color are her eyes? Does she look more like a Stark? Or more like a Targaryen? Those were the kind questions the lords were looking to have answered.

"Where is Ned?" Lady Mormont asked as she kept sneaking glances up at the high table where she knew the princess was at. She was looking forward to the coming years, to finally have a woman rule the north is a very exciting thing to behold.

"He is currently in the small council chambers with King Robert, and his Lord Hand Jon Arryn. They are negotiating a peace treaty, and trade agreements. Robert Baratheon was practically pushed into a corner, and reluctantly gave the north its independence, and we haven't seen the last of the south. With the way Robert looked at the crown princess, I'd say this is far from over." Lord Karstark stated as he pounded his fist on the table in rage, only to wake up the sleeping princess who instantly started to wail.

"Good job, you great big prick, you woke up the princess!" Lord Umber whisper-shouted. All the northern lords just watched as Lady Ashara rocked the crown princess back to sleep.

Ashara could see Lady Mormont looking up at the high table every now and then, so she continued to rock little Vysenera as she walked over to the northern lady. "Would you like to hold her, Lady Mormont?" Ashara asked. The she-bear hesitated a bit, but gave in when she finally saw the princess's face.

"She looks so much like Brandon. She's absolutely beautiful. What color are her eyes? And how the heck is Ned gonna keep all the boys away?" Lady Mormont said with a slight chuckle. Maege looked down at the sleeping princess, and promised that she would support her reign.

Before Ashara could answer Lady Mormont's questions everyone's attention turned to the entrance of the tent as they saw Ned Stark walk in, looking around the tent for his niece.

Ashara gently took the sleeping princess from Lady Mormont, and made her way over to Ned who was still looking around frantically.

"Where's my niece? Where's the crown princess?" Ned stated, frantically. Ashara should have been seated at the high table. He was brought out of his frantic search when Lord Grover grasped his shoulder, and turned him in the direction where Ashara was. She was walking towards them with his niece, safely in her arms. Ned sighed in relief, all the other lords just chuckled.

"Thank god, she's okay!" Ned said.

Ashara handed over the princess to her uncle, and followed him back over to the high table. It was clear as day at how protective Ned has become of Vysenera, but you can't blame him especially when you have a southern king who wants to kill her, even if he signed a peace treaty. Ashara wasn't stupid. She knew how to play the game of thrones, and she knew Robert Baratheon, he would never stop until every single Targaryen was dead.

"I want to thank you for all being patient with me, and waiting for my arrival. Now I'm sure Lord Umber, or Lord Karstark has given you a brief rundown of our current state of affairs?" Ned asked his fellow lords.

"Aye!" They all shouted simultaneously.

"Wonderful. Well to put it bluntly for the first time in 300 years the north has it's independence. As of today we are a free kingdom." Ned said happily as he watched all of the lords start to hoot, and holler in celebration.

"Now comes the fun part, we must name our king regent, and our crown princess. I have also received word that my lady wife, Catelyn Tully, gave birth to a healthy boy, now I know the law, and the law states that a daughter shall inherit before the brother. As of right now, Vysenera Lyanna Stark is our crown princess. With my older brother in hiding, and my younger brother beyond the wall that only leaves me able, and ready to take up the role as king regent." Ned factly stated.

"Aye! But what of your lady wife? No doubt she'll dispute the line of succession, and her fool of a father too!" Lord Ryswell shouted.

"I'd like to say something about Lady Catelyn." Ashara Dayne interrupted.

Ashara looked over at Ned who was shooting glares at her as if to tell her to be quiet, but she won't back down from this. Elaena had made specific demands, and said that if she felt Ned wouldn't listen to those demands, she was to present them to the northern lords.

"Ashara, I'm warning you..." Ned yelled trying to shut Ashara up. He has no idea what she was doing, but the only thing it will do is cause endless trouble, and unnecessary drama.

"No Ned! I have specific instructions from Princess Elaena Targaryen-Stark that said if you didn't follow the requirements set forth for her daughter that I was to present those requirements to the northern lords. Even Brandon supports this!" Ashara said, as she glared right back at Ned.

"And what are those requirements, Lady Ashara?" Lord Manderly asked. He was curious as to what requirements the princess gave Ned. Obviously both Elaena, and Brandon Stark want their daughter raised a certain way, and he sees no problem with that.

"The main one is that Lady Catelyn is to have no involvement in Princess Vysenera's upbringing." Ashara said.

"That is simply impossible to do, Ashara!"

"No it's not. I'm sorry Ned, but your lady wife is a wretched woman. You don't know half the stuff she did to Elaena after it was announced that Brandon Stark was to marry a Targaryen princess. She spread rumors, and whenever she was at court she would openly bad mouth the princess to the other nobles. I do not want your lady wife to take her jealousy out on the crown princess, and you know what I say is true." Ashara said.

"I see no problem with that demand, my king. If Brandon Stark expects his daughter to be raised a certain way then we need to respect those expectations." Lord Manderly said, again. He could see that the majority of the northern lords agreed with him.

"The other demand that I know you won't see through is for her to be fostered in Dorne for one year when she is 9." Ashara stated. She knew Ned didn't want that demand to be met, she heard that he was outraged when it became known that Elaena named Oberyn Martell as Vysenera's godfather.

"The only other demand was for Vysenera to learn how to fight by Oberyn Martell, Arthur Dayne, and Lord John Umber." Ashara said, looking clearly exasperated.

"Oi! I would be honored to teach my princess to fight. As long as our king regent accepts!" Lord Umber said in complete excitement. He is beyond excited that he might get this opportunity.

Ned was pissed like really pissed, but when he finally thought about it those demands were not unreasonable, he will just have to figure out how to placate his wife.

"I have a question, king regent? What title will Lady Catelyn take on? I hope you don't plan on making her queen regent? Because I completely resent that!" Maege Mormont shouted.

All the northern lords yelled in agreement, and Ned just wanted to pull his hair out. He never planned on making his lady wife queen regent, he'd never give Catelyn that kind of power, but he has to at least name her lady of winterfell to placate his good-father.

"I will name her lady of winterfell, but she will not have the power a queen regent would normally have. Does that satisfy you, Lady Mormont?" Ned asked, looking at the she-bear. He knew that Maege would want to be involved in some part of Vysenera's upbringing, and he has no problem with that, and neither would Brandon. Vysenera will learn a lot from Maege Mormont.

Lady Mormont simply nodded her head in acceptance. "Now we need to officially name our king regent! Do I have a volunteer?" Ned asked looking around to his fellow lords.

"I would be honored to do the naming!" Lord Manderly stood, and stated. Ned nodded his head in acceptance, and went and kneeled in front of Lord Manderly.

"I, Lord Manderly, Head of House Manderly hereby name Eddard Stark, King Regent in the North until such a time that Princess Vysenera Stark is of age to take her rightful place as the Queen in the North. So I have said, who witnesses my claim?" Lord Manderly loudly stated as he took his sword, and dubbed Eddard as King Regent in the North.

"I, Lord Umber of House Umber, witnessed the announcement of King Regent Eddard."

"I, Lord Grover of House Grover, witnessed the announcement of King Regent Eddard."

"I, Lord Karstark of House Karstark, witnessed the announcement of King Regent Eddard."

Ned was completely overwhelmed. He was really doing this. When he initially left Starfall, he had a clear plan to pledge his niece's fidelity to King Robert, but that all changed the second Robert looked at him, and ordered his niece's death with a smug look on his face. Now this gives his niece the stepping stone to reconquer the seven kingdoms when she is older, but he will keep that little bit of information to himself.

"Now, as king regent I must name our crown princess. Ashara, would you bring my niece to me, please." Ned said. Ashara gently placed a wide awake Helaena in Ned's arms.

"I, Eddard Stark, King Regent in the North give you her grace, Vysenera Stark of Houses Stark and Targaryen, First of her Name, Crown Princess in the North, Future Queen in the North." Ned announced.

All the men dropped to their knees, and the woman bowed their heads to the two new Northern Monarchs. Long may they reign.
