Unovan Federation
Castelia City
Champion Gray walked down the streets of Castelia as he did every Saturday. The Unova Pokemon League was out of season so he had plenty of free time. Only Lulu, his Lucario, joined him for his walk. The other pokemon in his team were back at the apartment. They were absolutely exhausted after a week of hard training so they deserved some time to relax. Despite the League not being in season he made sure to keep the team in tip top shape. Last thing he wanted was to have his Champion title, which he fought long & hard for, get taken by some rookie in their first league run. While his team got really annoyed with him some days he made sure they stayed in shape and maintained a power level over at least 80.
He walked through the streets looking around at any shops that might interest him. Quite a few shops on this street were relatively new and he hadn't had time to visit them before. Soon one shop caught his eye. World Imports was the name on the sign and it was quite a large place. He walked through the doors and took a look at the items out for sale. It seemed this place specialized in imported goods from other regions. He had traveled all over the world over the years and had developed a taste for quite a few foods. He wondered if they had…
Macadamia Nuts!
Gray smiled as Lulu stared at the bags of Alolan nuts with a look of longing in her eyes. Lulu had fallen in love with the nut during their time in the Alola Region. She looked back at him, her eyes having become bigger and with a pout gracing her muzzle.
"Not the Pouty Cario Face." he said "Anything but that!"
Lulu's lip quivered and he could see tears in the corner of her eyes.
He sighed and looked at the price tag. Oof. "A bit pricey…" he said sighing again when he heard whimpering behind him. "But you did train hard this week."
He stood at the cash register waiting for the cashier to finish ringing up his purchases. In addition to the nuts he bought a few Kanto Riceballs, a pack of Hoenn Lava Cookies, a bottle of Kalosian Wine, and a box of Galarian Tea. It cost a pretty penny but it would definitely brighten his pokemon's day. Just as the cashier was bagging his purchases the entire building shook as an explosion went off in the distance. What in the name of Arceus caused that? His first thought was a rather heated Pokemon battle but every trainer and pokemon knew to hold back when inside a city. Crowds of people began to run frantically through the streets. He left the shop and stopped the closest person that was running away. The person he stopped was a Simipour wearing a large armband with a crossed out pokeball symbol on it. This armband marked the Simipour as an 'Independent Wild Pokemon' making it illegal for anyone to catch them.
"What's going on!?" he asked the terrified pokemon
"T-the Plaza! They killed everyone in the plaza!" the Pokemon said before running off.
Gray stood there in shock. People were getting killed at Central Plaza!? He couldn't think of any group that would be willing to outright kill people. Every human and pokemon had the Tenets of the Legendaries beaten into their skulls from birth. Xerneas' tenet was that life was precious and should never be taken. The Great War also did much to sicken people to the thought of killing. Wild Pokemon when angered were known to rough people up but would never kill. Even the most despicable of criminal teams would always stop short of actually killing someone. He had to stop this.
"Lulu, come on! We have to get to the plaza!"
"Right!" she said running after him.
General Gaius Maximus rode his horse through their makeshift camp with a small entourage of officers and nobles following him. They had quickly poured through the Gate and established a foothold. The Gate appeared to have opened in the middle of a large city. His soldiers wasted no time cutting down the populace and looting the buildings. He had never seen anything quite like them. They were tall and appeared to be made of stone & glass. He dare say that even Sadera could not approach this majesty. This truly was a wealthy powerful nation they had found themselves in.
"Look at this place! So many riches and they're just ours for the taking!" said one of his entourage, one of the men sent by Prince Zorzal. He believed his name was Titus
"Careful." he warned "The battle is not won yet."
Titus scoffed. "As if these barbarians can put up any kind of fight. They allowed demi-humans to live among them! Look how easily they fell in our attack!"
"Need I remind you these were mere peasants not soldiers that we've killed." he said, feeling a small bit of remorse. He hated to see peasants get caught up in war. "Besides, what barbarians can build a city like this?"
Titus looked unconvinced. Several members of his entourage looked at the young noble disapprovingly while others appeared to be in agreement. Titus and those men can stay behind and organize their reinforcements.. He wanted to win this battle as quickly and cleanly as possible. He didn't need them complicating matters.
As Gaius rode off with his personal cavalry and heavy infantry Titus sat on his horse steaming. The nerve of that so-called General! To have him tend to the camp like a common soldier! Prince Zorzal would hear about this but until then he could amuse himself by doing some 'scouting'.
"Get a group of men together." he ordered "We're going to find out where these barbarians keep their riches!"
In a penthouse on the southern end of Castelia a group of pokemon look out the windows over to the smoke rising from the area near Central Plaza. They could hear the screams of the people running towards the port in the hopes of getting away from the devastation. They could see the line of destruction was getting closer and closer to the port. Eventually whoever was attacking the city would get there and the people would have nowhere to go. On the TV was live coverage of the event as brave reporters informed people which areas were the worst affected. Castelia City Police and a makeshift Trainer militia were doing their best to repel the attackers.
"We have to get down there." said a Delphox
"Yeah." agreed a Gardevoir "Knowing Gray he's already in the middle of that mess."
The Delphox and Gardevoir ran over to the penthouse balcony and jumped down into the city below. They were followed by an Inteleon, Latias, Lopunny, and Pheromosa. They were easily the strongest pokemon not just in Castelia but all of Unova. If they couldn't stop this then nothing could.
On the island of Liberty Garden a small lighthouse stood. The island originally belonged to a wealthy family that immigrated to Unova from Galar centuries ago. The family had sponsored the construction of the lighthouse and would send their children to tend to it. What the people of Castelia didn't know until a couple decades ago was that the family had come from Galar with a very powerful pokemon. During that time the Galarian Civil War between North & South Galar was raging. Zacian and Zamazenta had just entered their hibernation so each side was looking for any way to gain an advantage over their enemies.
Victini, the God of Victory, was heavily sought after by both sides. The family which had been long time servants/followers of the legendary pokemon convinced him to travel with them to Galar to escape the war. In a secret basement chamber he remained tended to by the oldest child of the family who served as the lighthouse keeper. They would bring him food, toys, and anything else to make his 'exile' bearable. One day an army calling itself Team Plasma had attacked the island intent on capturing him. While he was more than capable of defending himself you could imagine his surprise when a young boy fought his way through the Plasma grunts to his secret chamber.
He had been sealed away for a long time so the level of cooperation between that human and his pokemon surprised him. He was intrigued and he had become very bored at seeing the same four walls every day. Beside Plasma's attack meant that his existence was known by others. How long before someone else came to collect him? He left with the boy as a member of his team to help him in his fight against Plasma and to see how the world had changed. While he wasn't completely ignorant about events, with regular newspapers being delivered and his home having a computer, seeing things was much different than reading about them. He marveled at the advanced technology and how well people and pokemon coexisted. When the human ended Team Plasma's threat and claimed the Champion title for himself he returned here. While he knew he was welcome to stay with Hilbert this lighthouse was his home.
He spent the last few decades here going out to explore the world occasionally. He still kept in touch with Hilbert. Even at his age the battle itch never left Hilbert. Last he heard his former trainer took over a school once run by former Champion Adler and instructed both young trainers and some wild pokemon in battle techniques. He had actually been typing out an email to Hilbert when he got the news. An emergency alert popped up on his computer warning that a state of emergency had been declared in Castelia. Somehow an army had appeared in the center of the city and started slaughtering people. People were ordered to avoid Castelia until further notice. The Elite Four were on their way and the United Forces were being fully mobilized for the first time in over a century. Immediately he went outside to see black smoke rising over the city.
'Oh this won't do at all.' Vicitini thought, narrowing his eyes. Castelia was his city… He wasn't about to let some army run wild in his city. Taking a deep breath and channeling his psychic energy he took to the air. The God of Victory flew towards Central Plaza where the fires seemed to be the strongest. Whoever was attacking Castelia would soon have to answer to him.
"Form up!"
The Imperial soldiers quickly got together to form a shield wall. The soldiers were no longer completely confident in their victory. At first they thought these otherworlders were weak people seeing how little resistance they gave and the fact they mingled with demi-humans. The Imperials lost this outlook when more otherworlders can back and this time they fought. This world's demi-humans had powerful magic. Entire cohorts of men and demi auxiliaries were wiped out by fireballs, blasts of water, and lightning. The few battlemages they brought tried to fight them but whatever magic this world had completely outclassed them.
This world's humans were just as bad. Every human here seemed to be as strong as a minotaur. At first they laughed when they saw many of the otherworlders fighting them were children. The enemy had sent mere children to fight them! That was until one of those children in a panic kicked a soldier in the chest. The blow crushed both his armor and his ribs killing him instantly. No mere child wielded power like that. They had seen a scrawny woman easily pick up and throw a troll more than twice her height. They were also very hard to kill. They could survive wounds that would have long killed most men. General Gaius upon seeing this ordered the otherworldly humans beheaded which seemed to kill them as easily as it did normal men provided they could pierce the flesh.
General Gaius' indomitable will was what kept the Saderans fighting in the face of this terrible enemy. That and the softness of their enemy. They could clearly see the reactions of their enemy as they fought. The shock & horror as they killed someone. These people obviously didn't have the stomach for war and that would be their downfall no matter how strong they were.
That was until HE arrived… He just showed up and killed dozens of men with his bare hands...
He stood in front of them, his foot on top of a small pile of bodies. He was covered in blood. Whether he was horrified at killing someone like the rest of his people was unknown to them because he had a look of grim determination on his face. Next to him was a blue wolf demi-human. The demi had a glowing blue ball in its paw. This ball was able to completely annihilate an entire cohort as they had seen many times in the past few minutes.
"My name is Champion Gray of the Unovan Federation!"he said in a language they couldn't understand "This battle ends now…"
"Don't falter men!" Gaius yelled trying to keep morale up despite a good chunk of his force being wiped out by this one man and demi. "He is just one man!"
Spears were lowered as the Imperials started to slowly advance upon the strange almost Apostle-like man and his pet demi. Suddenly the entire frontline disappeared in a blast of flame. As the men burned alive several more demi-humans leapt down off one of the large buildings and joined the man in the street. One of them was a fox-like demi holding a flaming stick.
"Bout time you guys got here!" the man said with a laugh.
"And let you have all the fun?" said the fox in a language that sounded like gibberish. "Though I can't exactly call this fun…"
The fox and the other demis looked at the mess of bodies all around the street. The bodies of their soldiers, the otherworld's forces, and peasants that had the misfortune of being in the way many of which were children... The eyes of the man and the six demis hardened and Gaius almost swore he heard something audibly snap. Something had changed.
"This is all your fault!" yelled a blue demi that looked vaguely like a lizard. They could not understand what it said but they could feel the hate and fury in its voice. The otherworldly soldiers behind the seven had the same hard look as they did. Gaius and the other Imperials began to sweat as they felt the raw killing intent of the otherworlders. Since Emperor Molt had proclaimed the Empire's intent to travel through the Gate and conquer all they lay on the other side a thought had formed in Gaius' mind. As more and more of his men died the thought had slowly gained shape. Now as the mob of otherworlders slowly walked towards his men their eyes almost glowing in hatred the thought was fully formed.
'It was a mistake to come here…'
These people, humans and demis, were Monsters! Monsters that were once at peace until they had shown up. They had slaughtered their people, looted & burned their city, and had forced them to kill. Gaius' eyes widened in horror when he realized that these people avoided killing not because they were weak but because they had to. With the amount of power that even a mere child had they would have destroyed themselves long ago if they were more willing to spill blood. Instead of going through the Gate with the hand of peace the Empire had gone and poked the Flame Dragon with a stick…
He wasn't the first to turn tail and run when the otherworlders charged them with an enraged yell but he was among them. The horn of retreat sounded as what was left of the once proud Imperial Expeditionary Army ran back towards the Gate as fast as they could. Gaius made his horse run as fast as it could. He was no doubt pushing the beast past its limits but he didn't care. He ended up dropping his prized sword in the confusion but he didn't care. He ended up leaving much of his men behind to be torn apart by enraged otherworlders but he didn't care. Anything to get away from those Monsters.
"Antonius!" he said, riding up to his trusted second in command "We're retreating!"
"Retreat!? What happened, sir!?"
"The olderworlders are too powerful! We must head back through the Gate and warn the Empire!" said Gaius before looking around "Where is Titus?"
"I'm sorry sir but Titus took a group of men and left. He said something about looking for the otherworld's riches."
"Hmph. Idiot. Now he and whoever with him will die because of his stupidity! Come on we must head back through the Gate!"
Eastern Castelia City
Sableye's Choice Jewelry Store
Titus grinned as he smashed open another glass case.
'These otherworlders are rich indeed' he thought as he held up the jewels. He reluctantly admitted these were better than anything you could get in the Empire. He stashed the various jewels, rings, and necklaces into his pockets. They would make good gifts for his mother and sisters. As he left the shop his men went in to help themselves. As commander he had the first pick of any loot. He started to walk towards his horse when suddenly he was thrown back by a large explosion. He landed quite roughly upon the stone street. If he wasn't still wearing his helm he would have cracked his head open. Sitting up silently thanking his departed father for beating battlefield etiquette in his head when he was younger he saw his horse and a good chunk of his men slowly being burned alive.
"Well well well… Looks like you're the last ones. I guess I can take my time with you…"
Titus and his men looked up to see a small demi-human floating above the blazing fire. The demi-human slowly floated down to their level idly flicking its fingers. One of Titus' men ran towards the demi and swung his sword at its neck. The man could only stare in horror as his sword bounced off the demi's neck with no effect!
"Really? That's it!?" the demi said mockingly "A child could hit harder than that…"
"What are you…?" the man said dropping his sword and taking a step back.
"I am Victini. God of Victory and wrecker of your shit!" the demi declared before pointing a finger at the man. An orange beam hit him turning the man into ash. He didn't even have enough time to scream. Titus and his remaining men were absolutely terrified. A GOD had come to kill them!
"While you guys certainly made a mess of Castelia I honestly should be thanking you." Victini said blasting a couple more men. "I haven't had a chance to let loose like this in centuries."
"After the death and destruction you've caused no one will shed a tear over you." Several more men and their horses became ash after they tried to escape "Unlike everyone else I'm a little old fashioned. I've got no problems putting people down especially if they caused trouble like you all have. That's not murder. That's justice…"
Only Titus and three others remained. They were completely frozen in fear. They were before a god who could kill them in an instant! The four of them suddenly found themselves floating above the ground unable to move.
"Don't worry, my little 'Saderans'. You aren't going to die. While I could rip the information I want out of your minds like I did to your other patrols it isn't as precise as I'd like it to be. Really hard to pull info out of a dying mind…" Victini said, waving his hand dismissively. "So I'm going to take you all to the police station and you're going to answer all of our questions otherwise I will have to resort to the mind raping. And yes. It is VERY painful…"
Gray walked among the devastation, his pokemon quietly following him. His clothes were torn and covered in blood. In his hands he held an ornate sword. He didn't remember when he picked it up. It was at some point when he and the people of Castelia attacked those soldiers. He had no idea what came over him. It seemed like for a moment everyone just sort of lost their minds…
He and his team looked at the large structure that sat in the center of the Plaza that certainly wasn't there when he jogged here yesterday. It looked like the kind that you would see in ancient post-Blessing ruins. A few ghost pokemon with Castelia Police went inside of it while invisible. They confirmed that the structure was indeed a portal that led to a whole new world. As Champion he ordered the portal to be heavily guarded until he and the other champions could decide what to do. Whether that thing was to destroy the portal or go through he was on the fence.
On one hand the soldiers that attacked them while primitively armed were highly organized. The flags they carried around suggested they were a part of some kind of nation. If they destroyed the portal what's stopping this nation from opening another one? If they wanted this to stop they had to go to the top.
Gray saw Eve, his Gardevoir, shaking. Placing his hand on her shoulder he softly said "Hey, it's alright…"
The Embrace Pokemon simply stared at the dried blood on her hands. "The things I made them do…" she said "I could feel their terror yet I did it anyway…"
Gray had nothing but sympathy for the psychic pokemon. While they all had blood on their hands she definitely had the most. The soldiers barely had any mental defenses. It was laughably easy for her to smash through them and order them to do whatever she wanted. All throughout that… slaughter he could see soldiers suddenly turning their own weapons on themselves or start attacking their comrades. Some were reduced to a vegative state as their minds were destroyed and others were driven insane. While she wasn't the only psychic pokemon that had free reign over their minds she did the most damage. A pokemon of her level more than capable of touching hundreds of minds at once.
Gray brought the pokemon in for a hug as she began to weep. She wouldn't be the only member of his team he had to comfort…
Few things could rip Arceus out of his hibernation which was supposed to last millenia. The ripple he felt when this 'Gate' appeared on his world was one of them. He watched as otherworldly humans emerged from it and began to slaughter his creations, his children! He was still far too weak to be any use to the people of Castelia but there had to be something he could do. Something to give his pacifistic children an edge. Eventually his mind turned to the 'mental censors'. Should he remove them? While it would allow his children to be more than capable of defending themselves there was a very good chance of them turning into even worse monsters!
The censors were his way of fixing his many mistakes. When he first created humans and pokemon he had for a lack of a better word 'a bit overboard'. He wanted his creations to be tough… powerful… He realized far too late that he had gone too far when creating the pokemon. The first humans were being slaughtered left and right by the infinitely more powerful pokemon who had quickly labeled the much weaker humans as 'easy prey'. The early humans were so weak that simply being around some pokemon species could kill them! He had created the Regi Golems to protect humanity but the golem pokemon could not be everywhere.
So without any other he made humanity stronger. They were now capable of the same feats of strength as pokemon provided they trained hard enough. He made it so they could easily shrug off pokemon attacks and even perform a few of their own if they practiced long enough. He then gave humanity a gift no other pokemon had: Ambition. All of his children were intelligent from the smallest Caterpie to the biggest Wailord. The thing that set humanity apart from them was their ambition. The ambition to grow, expand, and invent. To make sure that humans and pokemon didn't remain in two separate societies he made it so pokemon could evolve easier when around a human. This when coupled with pokemon's instinctive need to get stronger made things turn out the way he wanted them. Slowly but surely pokemon Mareepishly emerged from the forests and joined the human villages.
There was peace for a time. The villages turned into cities and those into kingdoms. People and pokemon grew closer together. This peace ended when the various kingdoms began to war against each other for territory. Armies made up of both humans and pokemon clashed on the fields of battle. The sheer amount of death from the Galar-Kalos War alone had ended up prematurely waking him from his hibernation! As humanity industrialized the wars continued. The Kanto-Johto War. The War of Unovan Independence. The Kanto Clan Wars. The Sinnoh-Kanto War. The Unovan Invasion of Alola. The Lucario Kingdom-Sinnoh War. The Hoenn-Garde Kingdom War. The Galar Civil War. He knew this was all his fault. He had made his children the perfect warriors and so make war they did…
The Great War was when he stopped feeling sorry for himself and decided to actually fix the problem. The massive conflict saw the use of humanity's latest and deadliest weapons. Jets, tanks, automatic firearms, mechas, and artillery. His oldest children, the legendaries, had taken part in conflicts before but this was the worst. Aircraft swatted out of the sky by Latios, Latias, and Rayquaza who fought for the Hoenn/Unova/Galar Alliance. Yveltal depopulating entire towns in the name of Kalos. Kyogre devastating coastlines. Celebi making forests grow in the middle of cities. It was all so chaotic. The planet would have been destroyed if he did not implant the censors in the minds of every human and pokemon, legendaries included.
The censors made his children recoil from the thought of taking the life of another intelligent being. The war instantly stopped as the warring parties looked around in horror at the devastation they had caused. He could remember the sheer relief he felt when they all threw down their weapons in disgust. The various nations made peace with each other and the world slowly switched to a policy of pacifism. The first Pokemon Leagues started up around this time. He allowed and even encouraged them because it allowed his children a safe environment to work out their natural aggression. His children were natural born warriors and censors or not they would fight. At least now they could do so safely.
Soon the League system had completely supplanted the previous governments. Sure there were a few remnants of the old ways like the Lucario/Garde Kingdoms, Unovan Federal System, Alola's Kahunas, and Galar's monarchy but the League Champions were still the head of states. His censors ensured the world remained peaceful. While there were a few anomalies in the form of the various 'Teams' they were few and far between. Now this Gate appears and left him with a choice to either let this 'Saderan Empire' conquer the world or let his children relapse into their old ways…
With a heavy heart he undid the censors and watched with sadness as his children filled with rage slaughtered the Saderans. The Saderan soldiers weren't the only thing that died in that moment. So did his children's innocence…
He did note with some amusement that Victini was the only one that immediately went on the offensive. As Zekrom and Reshiram were at a loss on what to do, the Victory Pokemon was methodically incinerating every Saderan soldier he could find that split off from the main army. Vicitini was already sealed away when he implemented the censors so he was unaffected. Until now the pokemon had adapted to the new pacifistic world readily enough thanks to the help of an understanding human trainer.
He could feel himself started to slip away again. The creation of the world and his children had left him very weak. He estimated that it would be another few thousand years before enough of his strength returned that he could start interacting with his children properly. Using his last bit of remaining strength he contacted all the legendaries and champions telling them that they would have to go on the offensive against this hostile world. He told them that while they might be going to war they did not have to descend to the same level of barbarism as the Saderans. They were better than that.
With that Arceus closed his eyes as he was forced back into hibernation. Hopefully the next time he woke up he would learn his children did not destroy any worlds while he slept. Either theirs and the Saderans…
"A semi-stable wormhole linking two distant points together. Its implementation is… sloppy however. Whoever made this while powerful obviously had no idea what they were doing. It's a leech drawing power from the world around it. Power the world simply can't spare for too long. The longer the portal stays open the more likely it will rip both worlds apart."
"Rip our world apart!?" said Sir Peter, Galar's champion and close friend of Gray's "Can you fix it!?"
Palkia looked down at the assembled champions. "Aren't I the Goddess of Space?" she replied with a smile "I fixed the mistake the moment I found it. Our world is safe from the Spatial Deconstruction this Gate causes. Can't say the same for the other world though. I have to be on their side of the Gate to fix it for that world."
"We can probably ransom the safety of their world to the Empire on the other side. " mused Gray. With the final death toll having been counted he and his fellow Champions had far less sympathy for the Saderans. Thousands of people died in their attack on Castelia. An attack, which they learned from the few prisoners, was done only to expand their empire and take slaves. Fortunately no slaves had been taken by the Saderans. All bodies had been identified and sent off to be buried. No missing persons reports had been filed. Interrogations of the few prisoners supports this. Turns out the Saderans did initially try to take slaves but they were far stronger than they anticipated. All the people they captured broke out of the flimsy chains they brought and the pokemon easily made their lives difficult with their powers. Eventually the Saderans simply executed them, deciding to take slaves after they had secured the city.
"If not then we'll have to take their world by force." said Joan, the Kalos Champion "Are the United Forces ready for an assault?"
"Ready!?" scoffed Maui, Alola's Champion "The United Forces are nowhere near ready to fight another army. Dealing with the remnants of Team Rocket or Neo Plasma is usually beyond them. It'll take time to properly train and equip them."
"We'll have to break open the old armories then probably get some factories making weapons." said Peter sighing
"Devon has already volunteered a few of their machine shops." said Alicia, Hoenn's Champion "Silph Co. and Poketch have also volunteered a few of their workshops."
"If we spend a few months preparing we can get the United Forces trained. It'll also allow us to get our affairs in order because the Unova League isn't opening next season." said Gray
"The Galar League isn't either." said Peter
"Or the Kalos League." said Joan
One by one all the other Champions announced they would be suspending their various Leagues until further notice. Now they could put all their attention on this attack on the other world.
"Well let's get started.." said Gray "We've got a lot of work to do."
Unovan Federation
Nacrene City
Warehouse 18
Grey, Peter, and a small group of United Forces personnel walked into the moldy warehouse. The old reports said that what they were looking for was locked away here. The inside of the warehouse was filled with hundreds of metal boxes in a variety of sizes. Some were the size of tool boxes while others were as big as train cars. A majority however were the size of standard crates. This looked promising. Now they had to make sure none of the stuff was damaged.
Sir Peter noticed a young Watchog struggling to open one of the crates with its crowbar. Peter frowned wondering why a pokemon so young was allowed here until he noticed the United Forces armband it was wearing. The United Forces despite technically being a military organization was fairly lax in its recruiting standards due to over a century of inaction. As long as someone had their trainers license and/or met the minimum level requirement you could join. He and the other Champions were on the fence about letting the younger United Forces personnel go but due to the United Force's numbers being so low they couldn't afford to be picky. Eventually they decided to have every human under the age of 16 and pokemon under level 20 serve in support roles only.
Peter walked over to the struggling Watchog. Pointing at the crowbar he said "Do you mind if I…?"
The pokemon shrugged and handed him the crowbar. Sticking it into the top of the rusty container he easily popped the top off. The Watchog looked up at him in awe.
"You're strong." it said in wonder
"The strongest." he replied with a smile
"Pretty strong words coming from second place." teased Gray as he opened a crate near them.
'Ha ha ha. You just don't want to admit I had you on the fence." Peter replied before his face morphed into disgust "I hate the fact that we have to use these things."
Inside the crates were several rifles and old metal boxes of ammo. Stock left over from the Great War. After the war most nations destroyed a large number of their weapons. Only a small 'emergency' supply was to remain in case future generations ever needed them. This old warehouse served as the sight of Unova's stockpile. There honestly wasn't much here. A few crates of guns and ammo, some artillery, and a couple of tanks. Thankfully they had already found some blueprints so they could slowly start replacing this ancient stuff with newer equipment.
Gray picked up one of the rifles. It was mostly made of wood and metal. A large metal box extended down from the bottom. The rifle appeared to be in good condition. Unlike the outside of the container which was covered in rust the inside was still fairly pristine. The metal containers helped protect the rifles from moisture so it might be safe to use. He pulled out one of the bullets which was slightly bigger than his finger.
"These things are older than any human on the planet. What kind of guns are these anyway?" mused Peter
"They're Unovan M-14 Battle Rifles." said Lulu as she read from a folder "Semi-automatic. Has a 30 round capacity and fires .50 caliber bullets."
".50 caliber? Is that a big bullet?" asked Gray
"From what this says, it's an average size round. Just big enough to kill most humans and pokemon with a few shots. We have some more rifles and machine guns with larger calibers though ammunition for those in short supply."
"Well we'll have to make due we get weapon manufacturing up and running." said Gray "Let's get these to the training camp."
Sinnoh Region
Spear Pillar
Hall of Origin
At the very top of Mount Coronet which dominated the Sinnoh region resides the Spear Pillar. The oldest set of ruins on the planet. Built by humans and pokemon not long after the world was created. The Sky Pillar was the first thing the two races ever built together. The main part of the structure served as the home for Palkia and Dialga with Giratina occasionally showing up for a visit. The structure was currently filled to the brim with every legendary from across the planet. Nearby lay their father, Arceus, who was currently in deep hibernation. They all dreamed of showing him the world he had created but first they had to make sure it was still here when he woke up.
This Gate was a far bigger crisis than the Destruction of the Ultra Dimension. In that incident repeat incursions by the Aether Foundation had destabilized the Ultra Beast's world. It was a rather frantic affair trying to evacuate all the Ultra Beasts off their rapidly dying world quickly enough. It all turned out happy in the end with most of the various Ultra Beasts settling peacefully here on Earth. Now it appears the tables had been turned with their own world being threatened with destruction.
"As you all no doubt heard the Gate most certainly was created by a being the Saderan prisoners refer to as 'Hardy'." said Palkia "This Hardy is described as a goddess of the underworld and possessing extraordinary power."
"How much power are we talking here?" asked Celebi
"You need strength like mine to make a portal like that but Hardy certain lacks control considering how sloppy that Gate is." replied Palkia "The only way I can see her using something so poorly made is that she doesn't care or doesn't know what she was doing. Either one is bad."
"So we're dealing with an apathetic being that is just as strong as you are?" said Cobalion "Marvelous…"
"Not just one." said Victini, who had been declared a hero by the people of Castelia "From the information I took from the Saderans I learned that they have an entire pantheon of gods who influence their world."
"And how is the relationship these gods have with their people." asked Xerneas who was genuinely curious
"Awful. If you think the Saderans are bad then you can't imagine their gods. They are like the way we were a long time ago but multiplied by ten." said Victini making many legendaries look away in embarrassment. A long time ago many of them had considered humans and normal pokemon beneath them.
Kyogre would raise her seas on a whim (mostly to annoy Groudon) not caring about the coastal cities she destroyed or people she displaced. Yveltal would go around draining energy causing innocent people to drop dead. Darkrai would drive people to near madness thanks to its nightmarish aura which it refused to rain in for 'lesser beings'.
Even the more 'benevolent' legendaries had their dark sides. The Swords of Justice were unnecessarily harsh when dealing with humanity. Crimes that would earn a pokemon a light scolding typically earned a human a death sentence. Celebi used to hate human cities and would regularly destroy them by making forests grow within them killing/displacing the populace. Even the Xerneas had her own blackspots with her giving eternal life to people and pokemon that earned it.
At first it was considered a wondrous gift… until the centuries dragged on. Normal humans and pokemon aren't mentally equipped to live forever. Being forced to sit by while the world changed and loved ones died. Most begged her to take back her gift after the first century and those that didn't eventually went insane. Since then Xerneas hasn't given the curse of Immortality to anyone choosing instead to extend their lifespans by a reasonable amount.
"If they are as bad as you say they are then why do the Saderans follow them? If the history books are accurate, worship of you guys went down significantly thanks to your attitude." said Mewtwo
"Those so called gods no doubt thought of that because they have a solution." replied Victini "They have immortal agents called Apostles traveling the land making sure the people worship them and carrying out their god's will. The Apostles are capable of healing from any wound and have immense speed and strength."
"So a bunch of superpowered thugs carrying out the orders of cruel gods?" said Virizion "And we're sending our troops into that!?"
"Alone? By Arceus no!" said Dialga "The main reason we've called this meeting is to decide which of us will be going to the other world as backup. Palkia and Victini have already volunteered and Latias already is following her trainer. So anyone else?"
"I'm not doing much here anyway. I'll go." said Groudon
"We're willing to go as well." said Cobalion with the other Swords nodding.
"I'm not missing this for the world!" said Zacian excitedly "I feel so eager to charge into battle! I haven't felt like this in a long time."
"Hey now that you mention it do any of you feel… different?" asked Meloetta
"I do feel a little more... bloodthirsty now that you mention it. When I first heard about Castelia I was so angry I felt like…" said Kyogre from a nearby pool. She was obviously embarrassed revealing this only for her embarrassment to turn into surprise when the other legendaries revealed they had the same thoughts as well.
"Hey you don't think Father removed the…" said Celebi. Every legendary looked over to the sleeping form of their father. They had long suspected about the existence of the censors despite father never confirming it. They didn't make a issue out of it because they all loved the new peaceful world they now lived in and they genuinely regretted their actions in the past. They couldn't imagine what father must have felt if he thought he needed to remove the censors. He looked to be peacefully sleeping. They didn't know if he was completely dead to the world or he could sense all of his oldest children around him who were giving him their sympathy. Either way he was sleeping peacefully.
"If he did a lot of things suddenly make sense." sighed Giratina "Especially that message with him warning us not to descend to the same barbarism as the Saderans. Without the censors that is a strong possibility."
"What are censors?" asked Victini with a look of confusion. Mewtwo looked just as confused as he was.
"I'll tell you later." said Celebi
AN: This is a very different kind of Poke World. I plan on using this same sort of world in a future mass effect crossover. I was a little bit inspired by Cornova's Poke Wars series. Pokedex entries and pokemon attacks in the anime are shown to be absolutely devastating. Humans in the anime are shown to survive things that should be fatal. The number of times Ash has been electrocuted or hit by a flamethrower. Even if the pokemon was holding back that should have killed him or required a long stint in the hospital.
In this world even the weakest human or pokemon possesses what we consider superhuman strength. Humans after being slaughtered by the far stronger pokemon were made stupidly durable by Arceus. Humanity refers to this as the Blessing of Arceus. It also made it so Pokemon have an easier time getting stronger when around humans (my interpretation of the fact a trained pokemon is always stronger than a wild one even if they're the same level).
The whole censor thing is because the Pokemon world seems almost unreasonably pacifist/peaceful. We know the pokemon world has had wars in the past and that humans & pokemon didn't really get along so it made me wonder what changed. Once again inspired by Poke Wars I thought about that fic's dampeners. The censors are kinda like that except they are more mental than physical. Instead of actually lowering a pokemon's power to keep them from killing someone the censors make it so a pokemon doesn't WANT to kill someone. Is it overriding someone's free will? Most certainly but Arceus believed it necessary to keep the peace. Censors work the same with humans, Humanity in this world never invented nuclear weapons. They have nuclear power and know about chain reactions. The thought of weaponizing it just never entered humanity's head thanks to the censors. Now that they are gone weapons development is certainly going to increase once humans (some of them having less than benevolent intentions) realize that many of their inventions could have other uses…
