RESENTMENT

Mitsui Honoka

If Honaka is being honest with herself, she would admit resenting her friend, Shiba Miyuki, or Yotsuba Miyuki.

Of course, Honoka would also admit that she is very fond of Miyuki.

Miyuki, regardless of all the talent and power that she possesses, is a kind and humble woman, who is willing to socialize with those around her with politeness and elegance regardless of how below they are to her.

Miyuki is a good friend, a great one even.

That said, it was hard not to envy Miyuki. Aside from her talents and powers in Magic, Miyuki, in Honoka's eyes and the eyes of the majority of the female populace in First High, is the very picture of a Goddess.

Miyuki possesses a beauty so great that it made Honoka insecure of her own appearance. Hell, Honoka would admit that she fells and look downright repulsive if and when she stood next to Miyuki. Miyuki's beauty, plus her perfect posture, formidable aura, and impeccable manners never fails to make Honoka question her worth as a woman.

Being near Miyuki made he feel insignificant.

Compare to Miyuki, Honoka could bitterly accept that she was trash. It was hard to stand out when something beyond perfect is beside you. It was impossible to shine when the sun is in the center of the sky.

No star can shine with the sun is in the center of the sky.

But that was not the reason why Honoka felt some resentment towards Miyuki. She was not that petty.

Honoka resented Miyuki because the love of her life, Miyuki's own brother, is completely and utterly devoted to Miyuki.

In Honoka's eyes, Tatsuya is the perfect man, the ideal man. Composed, steadfast, always calm and collected, with a prowess and intellect that was nothing short of otherworldly, Tatsuya is hers, many others, ideal man and husband.

Honoka had many of nights dreaming of a life with Tatsuya.

A dream that would not be fulfilled considering Tatsuya was engage to Miyuki.

In Honoka's eyes, that was not fair. Miyuki already had it all, beauty, talent, power, both magical and in other sense of the word, prestige, wealth, and influence, everything that a person could hope and desire to have, Miyuki has in spades. For her to have the perfect man on top of that was just unfair. Miyuki could have had any man, she could have had a slew of men fighting over her hand, and they would do so willingly, but Miyuki choose her own brother, and Honoka resented her for that.

It was just not fair.

Saegusa Mayumi

Mayumi, in the privacy of her mind, would admit that she hated Miyuki.

For Mayumi, it was easy to hate the future head of the Yotsuba, and it was not because she was a Saegusa for that matter. Family rivalry did not affect Mayumi's opinion for Miyuki.

Mayumi hated Miyuki for the simple reason that Tatsuya would always choose Miyuki over anybody, and that angered and irritated Mayumi.

Like Honoka, Mayumi considered Tatsuya the perfect man and husband. What made Tatsuya more appealing, more desirable for Mayumi is the fact that Tatsuya is powerful and skilled enough to stand by her.

Mayumi had always buried her pride behind a mischievous and sisterly smile, but she had always resented the fact that she was not the successor of her father as the next head of the Saegusa. She knew that she was better, stronger, more powerful and talented than either of her elder brothers, and the gap between her and her younger sisters was so massive, Mayumi was pretty confident that they won't catch up to her level even if they spent the rest of their lives training and developing their skills as magicians.

Mayumi would even confidently claim that she was better than Shiba Miyuki, the girl that is considered the most talented magician in the country. Mayumi was confident that in a head-to-head confrontation, she would best the future head of the Yotsuba.

True, Miyuki is more powerful than her, Mayumi could admit that much, but magic is rarely a contest of power. Mayumi knew for a fact that Miyuki have yet to experience the hardship of battle. Miyuki could fight and she had fight, but she lacks the actual prowess of a harden fighter. Considering who Miyuki's brother is, it was easy to see why the future Head of the Untouchables was such a novice in battle. Unlike Miyuki though, Mayumi had seen and dealt with conflict before. She was no stranger to battle and blood, unlike Miyuki.

Those facts frustrated Mayumi to no end. She was superior to Miyuki in every conceivable way, and yet Tatsuya, if given the choice, would choose Miyuki over anyone, even her.

In a relationship, the two parties should be equal, and the relationship between Tatsuya and Miyuki had never been equal. It was far from equal in fact. True, Miyuki had always been obsessively taking care of Tatsuya, but aside from that, the relationship between the two have always been unbalance. Miyuki have always depended on Tatsuya to the point that it was unhealthy in Mayumi's opinion.

It irked Mayumi that regardless of Miyuki's inborn powers and talent, she never strive to be her brother's equal. Not being equal with your partner is a hallmark of a failed relationship.

She, on the other hand, she sees herself as Tatsuya's equal. Not in power, Mayumi would admit that Tatsuya's sheer power is equal or even greater than that of Miyuki's, but in everything else, Mayumi was confident that she and Tatsuya are equals. In skill, in talent, in ability, in intellect even, Mayumi would insist that she is Tatsuya's equal.

Mayumi knew that she is perfect for Tatsuya, and he was perfect for her. They were equals after all, and she knew that her attraction for her junior was reciprocated, or at least mutual. Mayumi knew for a fact that she would be good for Tatsuya and him for her.

They would have been perfect for each other.

The fact that Tatsuya is stuck with Miyuki, because of duty or something else, made Mayumi hate the younger girl.

Tatsuya was too good for a spoiled child like Miyuki.

Angelina Shield

Lina did not hate or resent Miyuki. Lina would even say that she is incredibly fond of the woman.

That said, Lina always envied Miyuki.

Lina envied Miyuki not because of her power or her beauty. Truth be told, Line knew that she was Miyuki's equal in that regard (and Lina took pride that she was born with her power and beauty naturally, and not modified to have such qualities like Miyuki). No, Lina envied Miyuki because of her status in life.

Unlike her, who had to use her power, skills, and talent for her birth country, Miyuki could and had lived her life without the pressure of duty on her shoulders.

Miyuki was not like her. When Lina showed a remarkable aptitude towards Magic, she was all but procured by her country, taught and trained to fight for her country, disregarding her wishes and desires.

Miyuki, though possessing the same powers and abilities, did not have to face that kind of life. Miyuki, unlike her, had the pleasure of having a childhood, of being treated like a princess, of having a brother like Tatsuya.

And Tatsuya was probably the primary reason why Lina envied Miyuki.

In Lina honest opinion, Tatsuya is probably the reason why Miyuki have not face a single drop of hardship in her life, and it was easy to see why. Tatsuya is the biggest monster that Lina had met in her life, and she meant that in a good way. Lina is very confident with her strength, skills, talent, and power. She was confident that she can win against any magicians in the world in a straight fight.

That said, she was nothing compare to Tatsuya.

Lina remembered her first confrontation against Tatsuya. She remembered how outcast she was, she remembered how easily Tatsuya outmaneuvered her, and she remembered how easily she was bested by Tatsuya. The fact that Tatsuya did not go all out against her, the fact that he did not took her seriously in their first confrontation, the fact that Tatsuya treated her as a mere nuisance in the fight instead of an actual threat, and still won handily spoke volumes of his skills.

The fact that Tatsuya never went all out against her in all of their subsequent fight is an indictment on how outmatch she is against Tatsuya.

From what Lina had seen, Tatsuya had never gone all out in any of his fights. Lina shuddered at the thought of a Tatsuya going all out in battle.

And that's the primary reason why Lina envied Miyuki. Miyuki had Tatsuya, and by having him, Miyuki was exempted from becoming a weapon. Tatsuya had taken all the attention from his little sister. After all, a God is superior to an angel.

It often irked Lina that Miyuki never experienced the hardship of life. Life is a cruel mistress, Lina knows this better than anyone. Miyuki is unaware of how hard life could be, and that's because of Tatsuya. After all, all the hardship that life could throw at Miyuki, Tatsuya takes for her without any complaints from his part.

That is the main source of Lina's envy towards Miyuki. She and Miyuki are equal in every way imaginable, but unlike Miyuki, she did not have someone or anyone shielding her from the cruelty and hardship that her gifts brought her.

That fact made Lina very jealous of Miyuki.
