Chapter 34 The End of an old age

It's been a couple weeks since Sean and Korra came back from vacation with Tenzin's family at Ember island.

Currently the two were on a ferry heading to the island.

"It was nice to have a vacation with Tenzin's family." Korra said.

"I'll bet. Still we might buy or make our own home there when Ra and Zeus are stopped." Sean said making her smile.

"It would be nice. But the South is always gonna be our home." Korra said making him smile.

When they arrived at the island they saw Pema with a depressed look which was uncommon for her.

"Pema?" Korra asked concerned as they approached her before she faced them.

"Oh...Hey you two...I didn't think you would be here today." Pema said trying not to sound depressed.

"We decided to stop by. Whats the matter? The kids being a pain?" Sean asked making her shake her head.

"Uh no. They are just fine. It's um...Korra, I...you two might want to talk to Tenzin." Pema said.

"Pema, Whats going on your really scaring me." Korra said concerned.

"I...I don't know how to...You really need to talk to him." Pema said as they went inside.

Walking inside they saw Tenzin, Kya and Bumi in the same state of depression.

"What the fuck is going on around here?" Sean asked confused.

"Um...Korra, you should probably sit down." Tenzin said making her and her husband do that.

"Tenzin, you guys are really scaring me. Whats going on?" Korra asked very concerned.

"It's...Our mother." Tenzin said confusing her.

"What about her? She looked fine the last time we saw her." Sean said.

"Yes but...Recently she's become very ill." Tenzin said.

"So? She's gotten sick before and bounced back. Whats the difference this time?" Sean asked confused.

"Not like this. She's has a very rare disease." Kya said shocking them.

"Anyone say our age and yours is easily able to recover from it. But...Because of her age...The doctors..." Tenzin tried to say.

"Tenzin...Is she dying?" Korra asked afraid as Sean held her.

"We believe so. We don't know how much time she has." Tenzin said sadly.

"We were about to go and get you two to tell ya." Bumi said.

"Lets get going then." Sean said.

Later

Oogi flew the siblings and married couple to the South Pole.

Pema and the kids stayed behind as did the others.

Sean held Korra close seeing the very concerned look she had on her face.

"Korra, It's gonna be ok. She might pull through this. She has survived worse after all." Sean said comforting her.

"I don't think so this time. I know your just trying to make me feel better and I really appreciate that really I do...But I think we both know whats gonna happen." Korra said.

"You'd be surprised how much people can survive difficult situations. Have faith. It's all we have." Sean said making her nod.

Soon enough the Sky Bison landed outside the compound before Tenzin rushed in followed by his siblings.

"Korra." Senna said hugging her daughter who hugged back before doing the same to her father.

"How is she?" Sean asked jumping down making them look down as Tonraq held his wife.

"It's...Not looking good for her." Senna said sadly.

"It isn't contagious is it?" Sean asked concerned for Korra's health.

"No the doctors said there was no risk of that. But with her being at her age...Her chances of survival are...Slim." Tonraq said.

Korra quickly rushed in while Sean followed.

Sean knew how much Katara meant to Korra since she had known her a little longer than him before he was found in the temple.

He remembered all the times when the two went to play how she would watch over them when they weren't training.

To Korra Katara was like a Grandmother to her.

Arriving at the hut Sean saw Korra in a chair with a depressed look on her face.

Tenzin and his siblings were in Katara's room preparing final goodbyes if it was truly her time

Katara was like family to her. She had known her a little longer than she did Sean when the temple came out of the ground. She didn't want to lose her so soon especially since she was trying to have a baby. She wanted her to know her child before she passed.

Sean looked at her before he sighed as he sat down next to her before she laid her head on his chest as he held her.

"It's gonna be ok Korra." Sean said as she held him.

An hour later

Sean and Korra heard the tent to Katara's room flap open as Tenzin and his siblings walked out making the married couple stand up.

"How is she?" Korra asked as Tenzin looked down unable to speak as Bumi put an arm around him knowing how depressed he was.

"It...It's not looking too good." Kya said trying not to crack.

"Hey wait a minute. Kruger you got god like powers maybe you can..." Bumi tried to say.

"I barely even know how to control even a fraction of those powers most of the time. And besides I can mostly heal battle wounds not this. And believe me I really wish I could but I can't. And in any event the main question is if she would actually want to be healed since...Well...Who's to say she doesn't want to see those she misses greatly like Aang and Sokka. Sometimes...You have to accept when your time is here." Sean said.

"But..." Bumi tried to say.

"No Bumi...He's right." Tenzin said knowing they may have to accept whatever happens. "She's waiting for you Korra." Tenzin said as they left.

Korra stood in front of the door her heart ready to break.

Sean touched her shoulder before kissing her.

"It's gonna be ok. Go see her. I'll be at the hut if you need me.." Sean said knowing this was more for her before she went in.

Katara laid there in her bed looking so frail and week. It truly broke Korra's heart seeing her like this.

"Korra, It's so good to see you again." Katara said rather weakly which Korra had never seen before in her life.

"Katara." Korra said walking to her and sat next to her.

"Now how are you? I hope your enjoying your marriage again now that things have finally settled down." Katara said making her smile. She remembered before Unalaq tried to end her marriage how Sean would always make her feel special in every way. Helped train her in magic and combat. Their marriage had no problems in it since Sean made sure they were equal in all the decisions.

"Yeah...You know when I was a kid I never once thought I was gonna end up marrying him. I always thought he was just gonna be my best friend for my entire life...Funny how things turn out the way you least expect them when you get older." Korra said making her smile.

"I felt the same way for Aang after the hundred year war ended. We never realize how important certain people are to us until later. Life is full of mystery and so is love." Katara said making her smile. "Now I have to ask are your parents expecting a grandchild soon?" Katara teased making her blush.

"Katara!" Korra said embarrassed making her laugh which turned into a cough before she calmed down.

"Sorry dear. But people are gonna be asking you real soon like they did to me. Having children is the greatest gift you can ever have in a marriage." Katara said making her smile.

"Well...Sean and I actually are trying right now." Korra said making her smile. "After he finally recovered I decided to have a baby. I was worried I wouldn't get the chance when he was so injured. And in a way...I think this will also help heal the wounds of losing all of his old family. What Loki tricked him into doing really upset him. This might heal all of them." Korra said smiling.

"Let me have a look." Katara said.

"Katara I don't think..." Korra tried to say.

"I know when I'm strong enough to do something and when I can't. Now come here." Katara instructed.

Sighing Korra got closer before Katara took some water from a vase before placing it on her abdomen.

Thats when she smiled when she found what she was looking for.

"It's very strong." Katara said making her widen her eyes before smiling as she held her stomach.

"I'm...Pregnant?" Korra asked making her nod.

"Tell him when you're ready. I know he'll be happy about this." Katara said as Korra held her as her doctors came in.

"Aang misses you." Korra said making her smile.

"I know. He'll be seeing me soon enough." Katara said as Korra left with a smile as tears ran down her eyes. Both in joy and sadness.

Later

Korra arrived at the hut seeing her husband already asleep before he woke up and saw her.

"You all right?" Sean asked making her sigh before sitting next to him.

"Yeah...She is dying like I thought." Korra said.

"Korra...There is a chance she might pull through this." Sean said trying to ease her concern

"No...I know it...Mom and Dad know it...Tenzin and his siblings know it...And so do you. You're just trying to make me feel better about all this. I appreciate that I really do." Korra said kissing him as he held her. "But we both know she's not gonna survive this." Korra said sadly making him sigh.

"Maybe not. Maybe she will pass on. But I like to think that over the last 14 years she's been a big influence to you and helped make you the strong Avatar I've seen you become." Sean said making her smile softly as she kissed him.

"That actually helps a little." Korra said before both of them removed their clothes and got into bed as Sean held her close

"Will you be ok if she does pass away?" Sean asked.

"I'll be ok...I'll be sad she's gone sure...But she'll be with Aang again and everyone else from those days. And thats good enough for me." Korra said kissing him as he held her. "I love you." Korra said laying on his chest.

"I love you too." Sean said before she started sobbing gently into his chest as he held her close. "It's ok." Sean said as she cried.

Meanwhile

Katara sat in her bed as her time was coming to a close.

"I had a feeling you would show." Katara said as Athena appeared before her.

"Hello Katara." Athena said.

"I always wondered how many years I would last after Aang's passing. These last 14 years have been good with Korra and her family. And now...She'll be having her own soon." Katara said smiling.

"She's the reason my son has become the good man he's become. And so are you." Athena said making her nod.

"I know they'll both miss me...But my time has long since passed. I'll be seeing Aang and Sokka again real soon." Katara said.

"Yes...They're waiting for you." Athena said.

"Before my time is up...I have to know...Who's responsible for whats happened the last 10,000 years? You obviously must know by now." Katara said.

"I do...I even told Wan Shi Tong after Sean recovered." Athena said remembering that encounter.

Flashback

"Hmph! If only Unalaq had succeeded in killing that abomination." Tong said looking through his library.

"Oh really?" Athena asked appearing and surprised him.

"Ah Athena. It has been some...AHHHH!" Tong roared in pain as she blasted him with her power.

"You dare talk to me as if you have done no wrong? Your actions almost had my son killed." Athena said.

"He is an abomination! No being should be able to kill and absorb the powers of a god!" Tong yelled.

"Would you be saying that if you knew who was corrupting the gods?" Athena asked.

"Hmm? You know who it is?" Tong asked intrigued.

"I do." Athena said approaching him before whispering in his ears making him widen his eyes in horror.

"NO! Thats impossible! That thing was..." Tong tried to say.

"What I say is true. And you nearly doomed the world and the spirit world with your actions because you fear what you do not understand. And now...You will pay the price." Athena said.

"Athena please. Spare my life I beg you." Tong begged.

"Oh I never said I would kill you." Athena said before his books caught on fire.

"NO! NOO! NOOOOO!" Tong roared in horror as his collection was being burnt to ash.

"Instead I will burn that of which you love. And every time you try to collect new knowledge the same effect will occur and if you try to leave you will be in agonizing pain." Athena said shocking him. "There are some fates far worse than death." Athena said vanishing.

"NOOOOOOOO!" Tong roared in horror. (I meant to do this at the end of the convergence chapter but since I worked till 3 in the morning I forgot. So I'm improvising)

End Flashback

"Hmm. So who caused all this?" Katara asked before Athena looked around making sure they were alone before whispering in her ear making her frown. "I see. I guess in a sense I shouldn't be surprised." Katara said.

"One day my son will have to face him as he once did long ago. But that time is not now. Not for a long time." Athena said.

"I hope so." Katara said before she closed her eyes as the last of her life left her. Her soul now joined with those from her past.

Later

Korra and her husband were still asleep in their hut when Senna walked in.

"Korra...Sean?" Senna said waking them up as they were still in their underwear.

"Hey...Whats wrong?" Sean asked making her hold her head down while Korra realized what had happened before Sean held her close as she started to cry.

"She's gone." Senna said sitting next to her daughter and held her.

A week later

Sean was in his and Korra's room at the South.

Two days ago a funeral was held for Katara with some very important people attending including those from across the world she had met during the war.

"You seem pretty calm despite everything thats happened lad." Mimir said back on Sean's side.

"At this point I'm pretty much used to losing people close to me. Besides she's back with those she loves so I'm not completely broken up about it since she's where she belongs." Sean said.

"Thats true." Korra said walking to them before hugging him as he held her.

"How you feeling?" Sean asked making her smile.

"I'm ok. Actually...I'm a lot better than ok." Korra said surprising him.

"Oh? I thought you would be depressed for a few days. Wheres this coming from?" Sean asked making her smile more.

"You know we've been trying to have a baby right?" Korra asked making him smile.

"Well, duh. It's not something you just forget you're doing. What does that have to do with this?" Sean asked.

"Before she passed...Katara examined me when I told her we were trying. And well..." Korra said placing his hand on her stomach making him blink before looking at her as she smiled. "I'm pregnant." Korra said.

"Oh. Congratulations you two." Mimir said making them laugh as Sean held Korra close.

"Like I said. You get what you want when you least expect it." Sean said making her smile as she laid her head on his chest.

Authors Note: Yeah I know sad that Katara is gone but she's reunited with those she loves so it's not too bad. Sora what I want from you is to stop complaining, Stop questioning my sanity which royally annoys me since you're only who does that. Stop lashing out for dumb reasons since this is a story it's not real! Just enjoy what you get like everyone else you see them complaining? No. I'm not asking you to stop reading. I'm asking you to be civilized like everyone else. It's one thing to complain about stuff in the story like what you did about Mako and Lin. It's another to lash out about the story itself. Chill out. As for the Hutt story I honestly just started thinking about it and I MIGHT work on a few chapters after this is over before working on the next Legend of Korra story that involves a Legendary Godzilla crossover. Now I was gonna do a few updates for today but I'll do it tomorrow as a late memorial day thing. Now Read, Review, Fav and Follow. REVIEW MY LOYAL AND SUPPORTIVE FANS! SEE YA!
