Chapter 40 the Metal Clan
It's been a couple days since the Queen was killed by Sean and since the airbenders were set free.
And since they learned about Zaheer.
During that time Sean had been training twice as hard to master his unused abilities to protect Korra and his unborn child from him and his allies.
Sean had also sent his weapons to Brok and Sindri to upgrade them further for any and all possible events wanting to be prepared.
Currently right now they had stopped to rest as Korra used airbending to play fetch with Naga making her laugh enjoying time playing with her dog.
Sean of course smiled seeing his wife enjoying her time with her dog.
"Ah if there isn't anything better then someone playing with their beloved pet." Mimir said making Sean chuckle.
"Ah those two are always real close." Sean said.
"While your playing Fetch, four of the most dangerous criminals in the four nations are after you." Lin said annoyed.
"We keep moving and they won't find us. Not only that but we're gonna have to stop somewhere along the way when Korra enters her eighth month in a couple weeks." Sean said knowing they couldn't keep traveling.
"Relax. We just got here. Besides, no one knows where I am right now except us." Korra said as Naga came back with the ball before dropping it. "I think she wants you to throw it for her." Korra said making Lin look seeing it covered in drool.
"Pass." Lin said making Sean scoff while Korra shakes her head in amusement as Asami and Mako came out of the airship.
"We just got a call on the radio about another airbender." Asami said.
"Finally." Sean said.
"Where are they?" Korra asked excited.
"A city called Zaofu. The home of the metal clan." Mako said making Lin frown.
"Metal Clan?" Luke asked making Sean shrug.
"You know the place?" Korra asked Lin.
"Uh, Never been, but I don't want you going there. I'd rest a lot easier if you were back safe in Republic city." Lin said making her frown.
"You mean the city who's president is hoping my baby dies the second he or she comes into this world? I don't think so." Korra said with everyone else agreeing.
"Is there something you're not telling us?" Sean asked seeing she was hiding something.
"Nothing!" Lin said slashing Naga's ball before getting into the airship making Naga whimper. (I seriously hate when she does that)
"It's ok Girl we'll get you a new one." Korra said comforting her dog.
"What in the hell was that about?" Luke asked.
"Don't know. Maybe she knows someone there or has history with the place and doesn't want to go. Doesn't matter we are." Sean said before they got on.
Soon they were in the air and arrived at Zaofu which was completely made of metal.
"Wow, wow, wow. An entire city made of metal, whoo!" Bolin said amazed.
"Damn." Sean said.
"Now this is really impressive." Luke said.
"You should be right at home, Chief." Bolin said making her scoff.
Korra looked at her husband seeing how she was acting.
"Probably some strange issues." Sean said shrugging.
Soon they landed about to get off the air ship with Bolin being the most excited as he rushed out.
"Aren't you coming?" Asami asked Lin.
"What's there to see? It's metal. Big whoop. Just find the airbender, and lets get moving. And don't tell anyone I'm here." Lin said.
"Is there something you wanna tell us" Sean asked.
"I don't need to explain myself to you." Lin said annoyed.
"Whatever." Korra said as they got off.
When they did a group of people greeted them.
"Avatar Korra and Lord Kruger, it is an honor to meet you. My name is Aiwei." Aiwei said bowing.
"Thanks for having us." Korra said.
"Is this everyone?" Aiwei asked.
"Yep, just us. So can we meet the new airbender?" Korra asked.
"Of course. Right this way." Aiwei said leading them on an elevator.
Meanwhile
"Oh wow." Kya said seeing hundreds of new airbenders from Greece, Norse, and Egypt and everywhere else from the world.
"By the lake of the nine Tenzin is gonna have a blood heart attack when he sees all these new airbenders." Reznov said laughing.
"Most of these people had suffered because of the Gods corruption. Now they have a chance for a new beginning." Julia said.
"Excuse me."
Everyone turned and saw a Zaheer but didn't know who he was since his head was shaved.
"My name is Yorru. I heard this was the place to come if you're a new airbender." Zaheer said.
"Thats right." Reznov said.
"Well, a couple of weeks ago, I woke up, and suddenly, I could do this." Zaheer said demonstrating airbending.
"Not bad. New at this and you have great control." Julia said making him smile.
"At least your not destroying the streets like some of these sons of bitchs did when we found them." Reznov said laughing making the other new airbenders hang their heads down making Zaheer chuckle lightly.
Meanwhile
Sean and the others were on a train going through the city.
"This is impressive. Actually outshines Republic City." Sean said.
"Probably because unlike there this place has a competent and caring leader." Korra said making him chuckle holding her close before they passed a statue of Toph.
"That statue honors the first metal bender, Top Beifong. She showed Benders are more than capable of just bending the basic elements people have known since the days of old." Aiwei said.
"Does Toph live here? Are we gonna get to meet her?" Bolin asked excited.
"If so it might explain why Lin didn't want to be here." Sean said to Korra.
"I'm afraid not. She used to visit from time to time, but years ago, she left to wander the world in search of enlightenment." Aiwei said.
"In other words she wanted to be left the hell alone if Katara's stories are any indication." Korra said making Sean chuckle.
Soon they arrived at some large estate.
"Damn. Our airbender lives here?" Luke asked.
"And I thought Asami lived big" Korra said making her giggle.
"Yes, but first, her mother wants to meet you." Aiwei said leading them inside before they saw a group of people doing some performance.
"The hell is this? Some kind of combat practice?" Sean asked.
"Not exactly. They are rehearsing for a dance premiere next month." Aiwei said before it ended and a woman spotted them.
"That's it for today, everyone." She said before approaching them.
"Allow me to introduce the matriarch of the metal clan, Suyin." Aiwei said.
"Please, Call me Su. Great to finally meet you, Avatar Korra and Lord Kruger." Suyin said.
"Pleasure to meet you as well." Sean said kindly.
"And this must be Mako, Bolin, Luke and Asami." Suyin said.
"You've done your research." Luke said impressed.
"I make it my business to know who's visiting my city." Suyin said.
"So you're a dancer?" Korra asked.
"Dancer, Leader, Wife, Mother. Collector of rare meteorites. You'll find people here have many skills and interests." Suyin said before Aiwei whispered in her ear before she frowned. "Korra, why did you lie when Aiwei asked if there was anyone else with you?" Suyin questioned surprising them.
"Hold up. How did you know we weren't fully honest?" Sean asked surprised.
"I am a truth seer. When people lie, their heart rate and breathing increase. I can sense the most subtle of changes." Aiwei said making Sean smirk
"Really? Ok see if I'm lying. I enjoy the company of Aphrodite's daughters and enjoy all their advances." Sean said making him raise an eyebrow.
"Your good." Aiwei said making Sean burst out laughing.
"Told I could pull it off!" Sean laughed at Luke who chuckled in amusement.
"Now how did you do that?" Suyin asked impressed.
"A little something Chiron taught us back at Avalar. Not an easy thing I might add." Sean said.
"Aye." Mimir said.
"Anyway the person who also came with us with the Chief of Police. Lin." Sean said.
"Lin's here? Well, I would love to say hello." Suyin said.
"Wait, you two know each other?" Korra asked.
"Your joking, right?" Suyin asked.
"No...She's never once mentioned you. She said not to tell anyone she was here." Sean said making her sigh.
"I'm sensing some issues here that might explain her mood." Mimir said.
"Why am I not surprised? She's always been that way." Suyin said.
"So how do you know her?" Korra asked.
"Simple. I'm her little Sister." Suyin said surprising the group.
"Ok I did not see that one coming." Sean said.
"Nor did I." Mimir said.
Meanwhile
Lin was looking at the city on the airship when.
"Oh Lin! You some explaining to do!" Sean said as they appeared.
"Why didn't you ever say you had a sister?" Korra asked.
"Half sister." Lin said.
"So what? My brother is adopted and yet we treat each other like blood." Sean said.
"Same Mom, different Dads. So what? We're blood, Lin. And after 30 years, the least you could do is say hello." Suyin said making her turn her back.
"I have nothing to say to you." Lin said.
"You two haven't spoken in 30 years?" Korra asked.
"Why would you not talk to each other for that long?" Sean asked.
"Ask her. I've tried." Suyin said.
"Oh, don't put that on me. You're the one who tore our family apart with that stunt." Lin said.
"And you've done a bang up job keeping it that way and not letting things go." Suyin said.
"You haven't changed one bit, have you?" Lin said.
"Knock it off. Look the reason we came here was because of the report we got about a new airbender" Sean said.
"Yes I know who your talking about. It's my daughter Opal." Suyin said.
"Oh so your niece is the new airbender." Korra said.
"Oh joy." Lin said.
Soon they were back at the mansion seeing two boys playing some game.
"Those are my two youngest, Wei and Wing. Their playing a game called power Disc. They invented it all on their own" Suyin said before Wei scored. "I'm so proud of those two. Believe me when I tell you theres nothing better than being a parent." Suyin said making Sean and Korra smile as she held her pregnant stomach
"Oh believe us we can tell." Sean said as his wife kissed him.
And they met her son Huan who was kinda creepy with his gothic personality.
"We are so not raising them like that." Korra said making Sean nod. (Guy creeps me out)
"And this is my daughter Opal." Suyin said before she saw them.
"Wow, Avatar Korra and Lord Kruger." Opal said excited.
"Pleasure." Sean said.
"Opal. Thats a beautiful name." Bolin said making her blush.
"Thanks." Opal said shaking his hand.
"I'm Bolin." Bolin said.
"Opal, But, You already knew that." Opal said blushing.
Sean and Korra looked at each other and grinned.
"Great we found the airbender we can take her back to the airtemple and leave now." Lin said.
"Will you knock it off." Sean said annoyed.
"And the woman apparently trying to abduct you is you're distant Aunt Lin." Suyin said.
"Really? I've always wanted to meet you. My mom has told me so many stories about you." Opal said.
"I'm sure she has." Lin said crossing her arms.
"So I've set all of you up in the guesthouses while Korra trains Opal." Suyin said.
"Huh? I thought she would be going to the Northern Air temple to train." Korra said.
"Besides Korra is no condition to train anyone." Sean said.
"I wouldn't mind going to the temple." Opal said.
"Nonsense. This is where Opal's home and family are. You can train her after you give birth." Suyin said.
"Well...I guess I can instruct her without moving too much." Korra said.
"You know...Now that I think about it. Suyin just how secure is this place?" Sean asked.
"Very. It's impossible for anyone to sneak in here...Why?" Suyin asked.
"Theres this group of people after me and Korra who tried to kidnap us 15 years ago. I was hoping that perhaps you would let us stay here for the time being until Korra gives Birth and then we can both go after them when she gets back into shape." Sean said.
"Why didn't you just say so? I promise you both will be safe here until your ready to face them." Suyin said.
"NO WAY! Absolutely not. We're leaving now!" Lin yelled making Sean glare at her.
"Maybe you seem to be forgetting but we can't stay on the move FOREVER!" Sean yelled pushing her into a wall.
"Easy Sean. Calm down." Korra said calming him down.
"I don't care what issues you have with Suyin I say we stay here." Sean said.
"Look...I just feel like you would be safer in Republic City." Lin said.
"You mean the city who's president wants my kid to die at birth and fucking laugh about it? NO! I say we stay here. It's secure and remote." Sean said.
"It would be nice to stay here until the baby is born." Korra said holding her stomach.
"Then it's settled. You both will stay here until the baby is born and then stop this group together." Suyin said.
Meanwhile
The new airbenders at Airtemple island were practicing the same thing Korra once used when she first arrived.
And one just got thrown out hard making Reznov laugh.
"Is that the best you got?" Reznov asked unimpressed.
"You try it." One of them suggested.
"This isn't really my thing. Took Korra a while before she got it in her head." Reznov said before Zaheer went in and did it perfectly.
"Well...color me impressed." Julia said.
"I suppose some people are born with natural gifts." Reznov said as Kya approached them.
"I got some great news. Tenzin is heading to the Norther airtemple. He's with a whole group of other airbenders and he wants all of you to join him." Kya said.
"We'll leave first thing in the morning." Julia said.
"And the Avatar and God Slayer are with them?" Zaheer asked.
"No Sean suggested they split up since something came up." Kya said making him frown.
"Thats a shame. I was really hoping to meet them." Zaheer said.
Meanwhile
Sean and the others were having a nice meal.
"This is nice. It's been a while since we got such a high class meal." Korra said as she ate.
"Enjoy it while it lasts." Sean said before.
"Sorry we're late, everyone." Varrick said entering with Zhu Li.
"You gotta be fucking kidding me." Sean said
"Varrick!" Bolin said before his brother glared at him making him shut up.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" Sean asked pissed off.
"Good question Kruger. I mean...What are any of us doing here?" Varrick asked.
"He means why are you not in a cell?" Korra said glaring at him.
"Oh I got bored with that old thing. So I had an escape hatch ready for when I was ready to go. And here I am." Varrick said.
"Thats it!" Lin yelled standing up. "I'm trying to keep you both safe and you want to be staying with a criminal?" Lin asked Sean.
"He's hardly a threat to either of us." Sean said.
"Ease up Lin. Sure Varrick's made a few mistakes but he shouldn't pay for them with the rest of his life. I mean Sean's father did a lot of horrible things the past that over shadow anyone else in this room but he made amends for what he did. People can change." Suyin said.
"That depends on the person in question. I partially agree with Lin since he did try to start a war for profit like the scumbag he is." Sean said glaring at him.
"All in the past. Besides no one got hurt so it's no big deal." Varrick said.
"You got me thrown in a cell when I was gonna expose you." Mako said glaring at him.
"Oh yeah. Well Water under the bridge." Varrick said making Lin growl before storming out.
After Dinner was over Sean and Korra were in Suyin's office.
"Nice." Sean said seeing a metal replica of the Metal clan.
"You know, before I built this city, there was nothing here. I wanted to make my mark on the world." Suyin said.
"It's amazing." Korra said. "Thank you for being so welcoming and letting us stay. And I'm sorry for how Lin's been acting." Korra said sitting down with her husband.
"Can we ask, what exactly happened between you two?" Sean asked.
"It's complicated. We didn't have a normal childhood. Neither of us knew our fathers, and Mom was always busy being Chief of police. Because Mom grew up in such a strict house, She gave us all the freedom in the world, Hoping we'd figure out our own paths." Suyin said.
"It sounds like a good thing." Korra said.
"And in a way, it was. But we both ended up fighting for mom's attention. Lin followed in her footsteps and became a cop. I was more of a rebel." Suyin said making Sean snicker.
"Your kidding I have a hard time seeing that." Sean said making her giggle.
"Oh no I'm serious. Mom wasn't too happy with how either of us turned out. When I was 16, I left home to explore the world. I sailed the sees on a pirate ship, joined a traveling circus for a while, and lived in a sandbender commune in the desert. It took me a while but I finally realized what I was looking for was a family. So I bought this plot of land, found a brilliant architect who later became my husband. And created a place I could truly call home." Suyin said.
"It sounds like you've created a perfect life here." Korra said.
"Almost. I always wanted Lin to be part of it, but I gave up hope years ago when she never even attempted to come here." Suyin said sadly.
"Something clearly happened between you two." Sean said.
"Well...The last time I saw her...There was an incident and I was on the wrong side that I'll admit I shouldn't have been a part of. I was helping some friends who were part of a gang as a getaway driver. When Lin found out she was furious and tried to arrest me. Used those metal cables on me and I cut it off...Only...When it came back at her it cut her face." Suyin said shocking them.
"You gave her that scar? I always figured she got it on the job but never from her own sibling." Sean said.
"It was an accident. Something I regret to this day. I tried to apologize for that but she wouldn't listen. I gave up hope she would ever see me again until today." Suyin said making them look at one another.
Meanwhile
Reznov yawned as he was about to get ready for bed when he heard Kya talking with Zaheer.
"Whats going on here?" Reznov asked.
"Just having a talk is all." Kya said.
"Might I ask something?" Zaheer asked.
"Of course." Reznov said.
"How exactly did Kruger become who he is now? Becoming the God Slayer?" Zaheer asked making him raise an eyebrow.
"Well...Originally he never even knew thats who he was when he first arrived at Avalar." Reznov said remembering that day.
"How exactly did he get there?" Zaheer asked.
"Before hand Kruger and Korra were attacked by minions of Set's who were scouting for any possible threats. They didn't know he was there and when one tried to hurt Korra he activated his powers and wounded them. Thats how the Gods knew he was still alive. And Unalaq revealed certain things to him that Tonraq and Senna kept secret to protect him. Wanting to know who he was and where he came from and when he left the South. That was Unalaq's plan as he sent a large wave on him to drown him. We believe his mother saved him and brought him to Avalar." Reznov said.
"Where he learned the truth about what he was." Zaheer said.
"Yeah...But he didn't like it. He wanted to know the truth sure but it wasn't what he was expecting. He took it the wrong way thinking his mother turned him into a living weapon to fight against the Gods. Only reason he stayed was cause Chiron told him the Gods would come after him regardless if he accepted who he was or not. So for 2 years he trained with us before going home and got wounded by Unalaq. That scar on his right eye came from him. A while Later Unalaq had contacted Ares to kill him not caring if the South was destroyed in the process." Reznov said.
"Clearly that failed." Zaheer said.
"Yeah. Kruger killed him but Ares wounded him pretty bad and he had to come back to Avalar to heal...Then he learned something we neglected to mention to him after he asked what Ares meant by calling him the Last Son of Sparta. The Gods had destroyed the city 10,000 years ago until Kruger revived the place when the Gods and furies had him cornered. You know it's Ironic. Unalaq always said he was a threat to the natural order. And yet...He's the reason every God since then has been killed because he led him down this path unintentionally." Reznov said.
"Yes...It is Ironic." Zaheer said.
"You know you seem to know a lot about Airbenidng history for someone who's just gotten it." Kya said to Zaheer.
"I've always been fascinated with the culture." Zaheer said.
"And you moved through those gates like a natural. Where did you say you were from?" Kya asked.
"From a small village up north. You've probably never heard of it." Zaheer said as she frowned.
"Wait a minute...ZAHEER!" Kya yelled before using water bending to attack him but he dodged before Reznov used his father's hammer to try and smash him but he dodged before grabbing a airbending staff and bolted out the window.
"GET BACK HERE!" Reznov yelled following him before trying to blast him with lightning but he dodged.
"Sorry but I won't be joining you at the Northern Air temple." Zaheer said flying away.
"Who the fuck was that?" Reznov asked.
"That was Zaheer. 15 years ago he and three others tried to kidnap Sean and Korra for some reason. We still don't know why but they admitted they knew who Sean was but never told us at the time." Kya said making him frown.
Meanwhile
Lin was in her room reading the papers when someone knocked on her door.
"Who is it?" Lin asked annoyed before Sean and Korra walked in.
"It's us. We brought someone who wants to talk to you." Korra said as Opal walked in.
"You wanna Talk? Then Talk." Lin said.
"I'm sorry being here has been so hard for you. When you showed up, I was so excited to get to know you. I'd heard so many great things about you from mom and Grandma Toph. So I guess I was kinda sad that you didn't wanna get to know me. Believe me, I know my family can be a little crazy and overwhelming sometimes, But I would love it so much if you would be a part of it." Opal said making Lin frown.
"Get out." Lin said.
"Sorry. Did I say something wrong?" Opal asked.
"Get out!" Lin said making Opal cry before running out.
"What the hell is wrong with you? Don't get mad at her it was our idea. We thought it would help you snap out of whatever funk you're in, but I guess we were wrong." Korra said.
"Why don't you two focus on fixing the world and stop trying to fix my family!" Lin yelled.
"Your never gonna change. You're gonna be a lonely bitter woman till the very end. I would give anything to have my old family here and now like you do. But unlike me...You're too selfish to appreciate what you have here and now." Sean said as they left slamming the door not seeing the tears running down her face.
