Chapter three
Harry and Dobby were under the invisibility cloak and standing in the back garden of number four Privet drive. They were waiting for the three Dursley's to sit down for dinner. Harry planned to write Vernon and Petunia's names in the book. When he saw Marge Dursley sit her heavy body at the table, he grinned, he was going to add her name to the book as well. She was a cruel woman who thought it perfectly acceptable to allow her dog to bite young children. Ripper had bitten Harry when he was only six, then again when he was seven and eight. After that, Harry learned to stay away from the nasty dog. He wondered if the book would work on the dog. That thought made him smile. He knew dogs were taught by their owners and if a dog had a good owner, they probably wouldn't bite. Ripper had been trained and he was an older dog so Harry wasn't sure if that dog could be taught not to bite. He would hate to find out that someone took the dog just for the dog to hurt a child.
Harry had the book open and the self inking quill ready. He waited until they had just finished desert when he quickly wrote Vernon Dursley. It was instant, Vernon just dropped onto the floor, dead. Before anyone inside could react, Harry wrote Petunia Dursley and Marge Dursley, then he wrote Ripper. The same thing happen, both woman dropped instantly to the floor and Ripper fell sideways and didn't move again. Dudley screamed and began to panic before he ran to the telephone.
'Okay Dobby, take us home,' Harry smiled down at the little elf then felt himself being pulled away. They landed in the kitchen of the house in Godric's Hollow, 'Thank you Dobby. Now with them gone, it won't matter if anyone finds out I'm here, they can't send me back.'
'Harry Potter's mean family can never hurt Harry Potter again.'
'No, they can't. I have some things to work on before I leave to go stay with the Weasley's. Even though you will be back at Hogwarts, I will still call you Dobby. I couldn't have survived these last couple of weeks without you. You're a good friend.' All Harry could do was smile as Dobby burst into tears. He knew it was because Harry made Dobby extremely happy by calling him a friend.
Harry sat in the office library and stared at the book, 'I want to keep this with me but I don't want anyone to know what this book is, or the title. I wonder if Dobby can make the cover of the book change. I know I can when I return to Hogwarts, but I can't take the chance that someone might see it at the Burrow and asked what it was before I get a chance to change it. Harry decided he would ask Dobby later, for now, he had a few other names to write in the book.'
'So who first?' Harry stared down at the book and the quill in his hand, but before he could think about what name to write, he realised that someone might find out about the Dursley's. Dumbledore might have some way to know something was wrong at the house. He could go there and find Harry gone, then he could come here.
'Dobby,' Harry ran to the kitchen, 'can you make this cover look like another book?'
'Oh yes Harry Potter sir, what did the great Harry Potter want Dobby to change it to?'
'Okay, I think a muggle book would be good, maybe a muggle journal. Yeah, okay, make it look like a diary, without anything written on the cover. Leave the leather, it looks nice, just hide the name.'
Harry watched as Dobby changed the cover so there was no writing at all on it. He smiled, hugged the elf then ran back to the office. He took the quill in hand then quickly wrote four names. Severus Snape, Peter Pettigrew, Cornelius Fudge and Tom Marvolo Riddle. He grinned, he had been thinking about writing Voldemort, then he remembered what Voldemort had shown him in the chamber of secrets. He wrote "I am Lord Voldemort" which was an anagram of his real name. If he wrote Voldemort in the book, then it might not work, now it will. He wouldn't be able to find out if they died, which he was sure they had, not until he returned to Hogwarts and find out Snape was missing.
Harry wondered again where this book came from. He believed his parent's were going to use it when they first heard there was a prophecy about their son, Harry and the dark lord, Voldemort. If they weren't going to use it, then why have the book. They must have planned to use it, but for some reason, they didn't. Harry wished his parent's had used the book, then they might still be alive.
Harry stared at the book, 'They might have used the book, but wrote Voldemort or Lord Voldemort. That wasn't his real name so it didn't kill him. It's the only thing that make sense. You have to write the person's real name in the book for it to work.'
Harry wondered if he could find out what names had been written in the book. When he wrote in it, the name only appeared for a few seconds, once Vernon died, the writing disappeared, the same with Petunia, Marge and Ripper. The other names also disappeared after a few seconds, so Harry believed they died, he just couldn't find out for sure, not until he got to Hogwarts and find out if Snape was there or not.
Harry was going to add a few more names, one was Lucius Malfoy. That man is the reason why a basilisk was released at Hogwarts which could have killed hundreds of students. First he wanted to make sure Snape was gone, if he was then he would add Malfoy's name. But Harry also wanted to find out the names of other death eaters, ones that murdered and tortured. He figured a bit of research at Hogwarts would get him the information, but he could ask Dobby to get him back issues of the Daily Prophet. He would have to think on that, as he didn't want anyone to ask why he had old newspapers. He decided to write Lucius Malfoy's name now, in case that man was planning something else that could kill innocent people. He may even know that Voldemort had been possessing Quirrell which could mean Malfoy was with Voldemort now, trying to bring him back, or he could be already back.
After he wrote Malfoy's name and he made sure it disappeared, Harry put the book in his bag. He didn't want to be without it so when he was ready to add more names, it would be close.
The following morning while Harry was giving Hedwig some of his bacon from breakfast, Pig flew in.
"Harry, dad got the tickets, we'll pick you up tomorrow at three. Mum thought they should write to the muggles to ask permission, but I explained what you said about them, how they really don't like witches and wizards. If you think they won't let you go, just tell them we're picking you up and dad can use magic so they won't want to be turned into rats," Harry laughed, "See you tomorrow, can't wait."
Harry grabbed a quill and wrote a reply, "Ron, the muggles don't want any one from our world anywhere near them so I'll get the night bus. They told me if any one turned up they would kick me out, not that I would care. I figured it just easier if I caught the night bus, since it is transport for witches and wizards and I'm too young to apparate, it makes sense. They know not to stop me anymore, not after they heard about snuffles, I just never told them the truth. Anyway, I'll see you at the Burrow around four tomorrow," Harry folded the note, then tied it to Hedwig's leg, Take that to Ron, Hedwig, but stay with Pig.'
Harry watched the two owls fly off before he hurried up the stairs to make sure he had packed everything. He knew sooner or later someone will find out that the Dursley's are dead and Harry couldn't return. He had a feeling Dumbledore would sort something out, he would rather stay here in his families home, but he knew that would not be allowed. If he had to go stay with someone, he hoped it was the Weasley's. So he had to make sure all his stuff was packed in case he couldn't return. He knew he could ask Dobby, but he would rather just make sure everything he owned was packed.
The following day, Harry told Dobby to head back to Hogwarts, but reminded the little elf that if he needed him, Harry would call him. Once the house elf left, he slung his bag over his shoulder, dragged his trunk behind him as he stepped out of the house. He didn't have to worry about Hedwig as he told her to head to the Burrow earlier in the day. He flung his hand out that was holding his wand. Seconds later the triple decker purple bus appeared.
'Ottery St Catchpole,' Harry said shoving some money into Stan's hands then hurried to get a seat. He had his cap and sunglasses on, in the hope no one would recognise him.
It only took ten minutes before Stan Shunpike announced they had arrived at Ottery St Catchpole. He just nodded then hurried off the bus, dragging his trunk behind him. It took him another ten minutes to walk to the Burrow, mainly because of his trunk. He wondered if there was something that would make his trunk lighter or easy to carry, he would have to check some charms once he was back at Hogwarts.
Ron must have been waiting for him as he rushed towards him the moment Harry came into view.
'Harry,' Ron grinned.
'Hey Ron, help me with my trunk, it's heavy.'
'What have you got in there?'
'Everything I own. Remember, I don't really have a home mate, so I have to keep everything in my trunk.'
'Bloody muggles,' Ron growled which made Harry smile. But he grabbed the other handle and they walked towards the strange looking house.
'Did Hedwig arrive?'
'She turned up about an hour ago, she went straight inside. I think she knows mum will feed her.'
Harry laughed, 'She's a spoilt bird. So the quidditch world cup, should be good. This will be the first professional game I've seen so I'm pretty excited.'
'And you will get to see Viktor Krum, the best seeker in the world. You'll probably want to try some of his moves.'
'Oh yeah, but I'll make sure Hermione isn't watching while I'm practicing.'
'She's here, arrived yesterday.'
'Then why wasn't she waiting outside with you?'
'She's gossiping with Ginny. Dad said teenage girls often talk about boys when they get to this age.'
'I suppose we are getting older. I mean we're both fourteen now and Hermione turns fifteen in another few weeks.'
'Yeah, but girls usually want you to change.'
'Like making you eat with your mouth closed,' Harry smirked making Ron growl. That just set Harry off again.
They got inside, Mrs Weasley instantly hugged Harry which made him drop his trunk but it made Harry laugh.
'Go settle in Harry.'
'Thanks Mrs Weasley,' Harry grinned, then again, he and Ron picked up the trunk and carried it upstairs. Harry figured he would relax a bit before Hermione realised he was here. One thing he hoped Hermione and Ginny wasn't talking about was him. He knew Ginny had a crush on him, he hoped she's over it. He would hate to hurt her feelings if he had to tell her he just couldn't date a red head, mainly because it made Harry think of what his sister would have looked like, if his parent's had lived. He read his parents diaries and they planned to have four kids and hoped for at least one girl after Harry, but would have loved two girls and two boys. If things had turned out differently, Harry could have had brothers and sisters.
