Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, Re: Monster or The Gamer.

SORRY FOR THE LATE UPLOAD. This is what I might end up just starting my story with always, but hopefully this will soon. I finished my exams a while ago and I took a small break doing nothing but relax, when I should have honestly finished this chapter up. After I finish this chapter, I am going to rework the entire way I am keeping track of the character's information (oh boy I'm going to have to blend Access and excel)

Author's Note: So yeah, two new chapters came out a while ago for Re: Monster, and honestly while they were nice, the wait sort of raised the expectations way too high. In this chapter (SPOILER ALERT SORRY) I begin exploring magic, and hopefully the way I explain the magic system in my story will make sense. The OP LUC stat won't make Naruto OP, because it will mainly affect things like loot drops, games of chance and crafting, not crit chance, so don't worry. I don't know if I mentioned this but crafting will not be like in The Gamer, so it will never become so OP, I might follow that principle in another fic. After thinking about it, I'm going to eventually merge crafting skills together into more general skills, if you've read Re:Monster you know what I'm talking about (the reason is that I messed up, I should have from the beginning made the skills general). Oh, and before anybody says anything about the slingshot, in real life they were originally made for hunting and the one in this fic is enchanted to hit harder, so the damage it causes is reasonable to me. The major influence on weapon damage is going to end up being the enchantments rather than the material and design, though that will play a role.

Elseom: I haven't forgotten that, and honestly, I am really excited for that part and I have a really awesome idea for what to do. If everything goes right with this chapter the confrontation with the past will be the next chapter. So in regards to the events basically I have ideas for events and stuff like that up until the end of the forest war arc, but if you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them. Also, yes, this Naruto died during the first fight with Sasuke at VOTE (Valley of the End for the uninformed). I like IrishKatana's idea but as I said it would have to be a different fic with a post fourth shinobi war Naruto, because that's when Naruto befriended Kurama and wouldn't have minded being fox like.

RexeonNightingale: First, I want to mention that a poison resistance skill would be useless for Naruto because of his Absorption ability and you're probably talking about venom resistance skill. The manga and wiki also have it wrong also, because poison gets into the body via ingestion or inhalation while venom through bites and stings. Don't worry many people make that mistake, but if you actually meant poison resistance, then while a redundant skill, he would get it upon consuming an assassin or thief of sorts, so it probably will happen. Hopefully in this chapter Naruto begins to hunt stuff other than rabbits, but I might split this chapter into two so we'll see. In terms of eating items, honestly, it's going to be different than Rou. For Example, if Naruto eats a sword, he won't get any weapon bonuses, but if he eats a flame enchanted sword, he could learn the enchantment and maybe a flame spell or technique. I'll put the equations below for Naruto (remember he has perks which provide bonuses and right now the equation is for him being a goblin so when he evolves the equations will also change), but I don't have one for SPD, mainly because I have no clue on how to calculate it (if you have any equations that would work for SPD, please tell me):

HP: ( VIT * 15 ) + ( Days Survived * 10 ) + ( Level * 100 )

MP: ( INT * 15 ) + ( Level * 200 )

HP Regen per min: 1% + ( 1% per 10 VIT ) + 5%

MP Regen per sec: 1% + ( 1% per 10 WIS ) + 5%

Regular Speech – "Yosh!"

Thoughts – 'So I'm a Goblin now'

The Game – [Observe]

Chapter 4: Cooking With Fire

[You have slept on the ground]

You have restored 50% of your HP and MP and all negative status effects have been removed

Waking up early as usual, Naruto opened his eyes and began rubbing them while yawning tiredly. Looking around he began thinking, 'Man, everyone else is still asleep, why am I waking up so early? Is it because of my Gamer ability?'

Getting up, he began wondering, 'Maybe there's some way I can sleep in a bit more.' With that, a new window showed up asking him if he'd like to change when he automatically wakes up, 'This is ridiculous, how else is the Gamer ability affecting me?' Fuming a bit at how nothing in his life seems to be in his control, the irony wasted on Naruto, he decided on keeping the wake-up time the same. 'While it is pretty early, it lets me do a couple of things while Gobumi-chan and Gobue-chan are still asleep.'

Leaving the sleeping area, he began heading towards the cavern where they trained, and while walking there he took out some fruits and began eating, without considering if there's someone nearby. Luckily, no one was around to see anything.

Halfway to his destination, a thought struck Naruto, 'Hold on, today I can go get another thing from the treasury, and I can get the skinning knife. That way I can skin and collect the pelts of the rabbits and even eat the meat without any hair in it!'

So, with a bounce in his step, he began heading towards the treasury, and upon finally reaching it he began pressing the right combination of spots. Pressing them all, he saw the entry appear and he headed in. Going straight for the skinning knife, he quickly began looking for it and because of his nifty hiding spot, he found it rather quickly. Remembering the sheath, he made for it the day before, strapped it to the lower part of his leg, seeing as it couldn't be used as a weapon.

As he made to leave, he looked around and wondered, 'Hmm … maybe there's more awesome stuff around here. I should have a look around.'

Digging through a bunch of rotted and rusted weapons and armor, he didn't find anything good, but he did find a broken spear, which while not odd in this dump, its description made him pause for a bit.

[Broken and Rusted Spear]

Once a great weapon, wielded by a great warrior (read average weapon wielded by average person), it served its purpose well. This weapon allows its wielder to attack from a greater distance than most melee weapons and it can be used for piercing and slashing damage. This weapon is also very useful to those lacking in the height department as it gives them extra range.

Item Rating: Trash

DUR: N/A

Upon reading the description of the spear, Naruto began thinking, 'Gobue-chan has her War Pick and Gobumi-chan has her slingshot and dagger, and I don't really have any weapons to defend myself with. I've been doing ok with branches so far, and I am trying to learn this magic thingy, but right now I need a weapon that's better than a stick.'

Hearing a 'Ping!' and seeing a new window pop up, he read what it said and grew angry.

[Challenge Alert!]

Spear for Shorty!

Craft a might (read what you can make) spear to serve as your weapon, for this spear shall make up for what you lack in height in range. Truly a great weapon for a short guy like you!

Challenge Objective: Craft a Spear!

Challenge Rewards: 100 XP.

'Short, short! Who are you calling short, you dumbass game! I'm not short, I'm just slightly smaller than the average and that's not short!' Naruto began yelling in the back of his mind as he was being called short by the game, that particular trait being something that always set him off when he was teased about this.

With Gamer's Mind working he began calming down and realized something, 'Ha! I'm not short as a Goblin, in fact I'm taller than a couple of the other goblins here. Also, when I evolve, I apparently get larger, so take that game!'

After recovering from his small outburst, he wondered out loud, "I know I get quests, but what are these [Challenges]?"

[Challenges]

These are a special type of quest, one that generates to provide you with a small or large challenge, with normally no rewards being offered other than what you would gain from doing the challenge. However, you do gain XP from challenges, in fact sometimes the XP you gain from some challenges will be much larger than that of quests. What differentiates Challenges and other Quests is that Challenges should have no effect on the events of the world.

'Ok, all of this stuff is getting more and more complicated!'

"All right! So, I need to make a spear now, let's get to it then!" With these encouraging words, Naruto began to leave the treasury, when it dawned on him that he has no idea on how to make a spear. "How hard could it be? I mean it's a pointy end on a stick."

Stopping and sitting down to think about it a bit, he began to realize the problem in what he just said, "The pole of the spear has to be made of a pretty strong wood, so hopefully I can find good branch in the forest. The head of the spear should also be fixed on the pole so it doesn't just fall off. What could even work as the head of the spear, I mean pretty much everything here is crap, so what can I use?"

Figuring he might as well look through his [Inventory] to see if he has something he can use, he began to search. 'Hmm, a flint head might work, but I would have to make it into the shape of a spear head and then there is trying to fix it onto the pole, that would take too much effort for a weapon that won't really turn out that great', as he continued to look through his stuff, his eyes finally landed on the horns he got from the rabbits.

'Hold on, this might actually work, the horns are hollow so they can fit on the pole, without too much difficulty. I can even sharpen the pole at the top a bit, so it can go into the horn further. I should probably also use the medium horn, because this will let it be more fixed and it is harder than the smaller ones.'

Happy with finding an answer to his problem, he quickly left the treasury and headed towards the entrance of the cave, ana after greeting a few of the early rising older goblins, he headed towards the woods. Looking at the time, he was surprised that it was around 6:28 AM, and he realized that he spent quite a bit of time thinking about how to make the spear.

Reaching the woods, Naruto began to look for the best branch to craft his spear, and luckily, he had [Observe] on his side, so he was able to find a strong and hard wooden branch easily enough. Returning to the cave, he began heading towards the room where he and the girls trained.

Finally reaching the large cavern, he felt hungry even though he ate earlier, but he figured fruits won't fill him that much by themselves. Taking out a few fruits he quickly ate them, and then sat down near a wall and took out some of the horns, his skinning knife and some other stuff he thought he might use.

First thing he began doing was strip the branch of all leaves and twigs still on it. Next, he began trying to fit the [Medium Animal Horn] on top of the pole, and he had slight success, so he decided to begin sharpening the branch to help fix the horn better onto it.

As he was sharpening, he began realizing that even if the horn was more fixed, it would still fall off and that it needed something to keep it stuck on top of the pole. Looking at the stuff he has in front of him, Naruto found several strips of leather and an idea popped into his head. 'I can wrap the leather strips around the bottom of the horn and on the pole and use something to keep it there. But what can I use?'

As he finished sharpening the pole, he ended up deciding to look through the stash of resources to see if there's something he could use that might help him that he didn't take. Getting there quickly, he began rummaging through some of the boxes he didn't bother to look through and his luck once again paid off. In one of the boxes sat a set of blacksmithing tools and carpentry tools, along with a number of nails.

Smiling at his great fortune, he quickly took the items and placed them into his inventory and raced back to his work area, where he took out some of the nails and the hammer. He then got to work on fixing the [Medium Animal Horn] on the top of the sharpened branch and then used the strips of leather along with the nails to keep it there.

Looking at his creation with pride, he tried holding it and tried a few practice stabs and he happily declared that it worked perfectly. Noticing a couple of notifications that he ignored, he decided to check them out after he sees the stats on his weapon.

[Crudely Crafted Animal Horn Spear]

Tentatively called a spear, considering it is the length of Goblin Naruto's body, which is less than half the height of an average human. This makes it more of a stick with a pointy end to it than a spear, but for a goblin it could work as a spear. Crudely crafted with mediocre materials and tools, this spear was made by Naruto to help him fight and defend himself against the various beasts of the forest and to aid him in his hunts.

'Woah, this is sort of better than the horns. Although I could do without the insulting remarks, but it still is an okay weapon considering the materials and tools I have.' Jumping with joy at the basic weapon he created, he calmed down after a few moments, remembering that there was still more information he had to go through.

"Yosh! I completed the challenge, and I even got a couple more skills, now what should I do?" Thinking about his next move, he figured he has several options in front of him, he could train, he could continue reading the book from yesterday or he could wake the girls up and go hunting.

'The girls will wake up later, and they did look tired last night, so it might be better to let them sleep in. Besides we'll go hunting later today after they wake up so it's not a big problem. I really want to learn this magic stuff, maybe it's like chakra and I'll easily be able to use it. Ha! Magic it is then, I'm going to ace this stuff!' He thought excitedly, as if this completely exotic and new form of energy will be easy to master and control.

Taking out the first book in his inventory, he looked at it a bit fearfully, 'this is a big book, do I have to read it all? I really hope it has pictures, otherwise I might just go train instead.' Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately for him, the book did have pictures in it or to be more specific diagrams as he was flipping through it. 'Oh good, there are pictures in it. All right let's read!'

As he was sitting down and began reading, he got quite far ahead in it, almost halfway through when he was interrupted by someone poking him.

"Huh, what was that?" he leapt up while looking around frantically from the surprise poke. Finally, he saw Gobumi and Gobue giggling at his reaction.'

Naruto's response consisted of him pointing at them accusingly and telling them "Hey! That wasn't funny!"

Gobue responded in between her giggles, "Yes, it was."

Pouting at how mean they were being, he decided to pack his stuff so they could go hunt and eat.

Gobumi asked him, while he was packing the scattered items around, what he was doing, and he told them how he woke up early and got the skinning knife and saw a spear and thought how cool it would be. He continues by showing them the spear that he made and told them that he made one himself and after he finished making it, he began reading one of the magic books that were in the knapsack.

Gobumi then asked, "So what did you learn from the book?"

"Hehe, well right now I'm not really done with it so I don't want to confuse you. How about after I finish it, I explain what I learned from it to both of you?"

"Thanks a lot, Gobunaruto-kun!" Gobumi responded happily.

As he finished packing, he began thinking about something that bothered him. 'The book was clearly written by humans, and I'm a goblin now so how was I able to understand their language?'

The human language written here is the same as it is in your home world.

'Oh, that explains it. I should try to figure out an excuse if somebody asked me how I was reading it, because I sure got lucky that they didn't ask me that.' On the topic about the book, he began thinking back to the things he read, as they began leaving the training cavern and heading towards the forest. Naruto decided to review the main points, and after getting a sudden idea to open up his journal to see if it generated any entries regarding magic.

[Mana]

Mana flows through all living beings, even some undead ones, and it is the source of all abilities and skills for all the different races. Where humans have their [Jobs] and monsters their [Evolution], both are able to learn [Techniques] and [Spells] to attack and defend themselves and these [Skills] consume Mana.

First one must distinguish [Techniques] and [Spells].

[Spells] are [Skills] that need mana to be performed and are specific and constant in their effects and usage. To be able to perform a spell, one needs to know how to channel and control their mana in the specific pattern required, otherwise the spell won't work. Spells can be created through experimentation and research, and anyone can learn them from [Magic Tomes]. This limits spells in versatility as the user can't modify them on the fly, but allows them to be very powerful. There are numerous categories that divide magic such as [Elemental] or [Healing] magic, and generally individuals have an affinity towards one or two, but that doesn't mean other categories are locked. With spells only a weak affinity is needed to perform spells in their most basic form, although there are exceptions.

[Techniques] are [Skills] that need mana to be performed, but otherwise have no other requirement. Most attacks performed by monsters, beasts and humans fall under this category, as it is the more versatile one. A number of [Techniques], mainly those falling under an [Elemental] category or something similar, do require the user to have a greater degree of affinity towards the type of magic. This limits the user as one can't perform any [Technique] they desire, unlike [Spells] were only a weak affinity is required. Many [Techniques] however are neutral or don't fall under any magic type, so are accessible to all. [Techniques] can't be learned from [Magic Tomes], however through enough practice one can create or recreate [Techniques] as they don't have to follow a specific pattern. Some [Techniques], especially those belonging to monsters and beasts, require some specific characteristic such as horns, wings or others to be performed.

An [Affinity] determines an individual's ability to learn and control magic of certain types, and generally you're born with one to three affinities, though the latter is very rare. You can train an affinity, though that is a difficult path to follow, but what most do to circumvent the requirements of [Spells] and [Techniques] is to use some sort of focus such as a wand or staff.

'Ok, this is great and all but I still have no clue on how to do this magic thingy! I mean yeah sure the book still hasn't mentioned that yet, but still!' Naruto thought angrily in his head. Grumbling about how he still doesn't know how to do magic.

"Hey, you there Gobunaruto-kun?" Gobue asked him after seeing him zone off.

'Umm, yeah I was just thinking a bit" he responded, as they reached the forest.

'Alright, now isn't the time to whine about things. I should focus.' With that said, he began to climb up the tree, with Gobue and Gobumi following him.

After searching a bit, they ended up finding three rabbits grazing on some grass below. There were two younglings and an adolescent, so the three formed a basic plan. It consisted of Naruto and Gobue sneaking through the bushes near the two younglings and waiting for Gobumi to hit the adolescent using her slingshot.

As they got into position, Naruto and Gobue readied their weapons and prepared themselves to attack at Gobumi's signal. Gobumi still up in the trees, began looking through the pouch holding her ammunition and found a rock she liked. She then loaded it into her slingshot began aiming at the adolescent's head. Taking a few calming breaths, she aimed at the head of the rabbit and let go.

Seeing the adolescent rabbit get hit, the other two quickly moved to attack the younglings. Naruto jumped at one and struck with his spear, remembering to use [Power Strike], which was really overkill. The rabbit ended up dying with a spear sticking right through it. Gobue got lucky when the rabbit ran near the bush she was hiding in, so she quickly lifted up her pick and struck it. The rabbit died pretty much instantly from her attack, which went through its body.

[Damage Dealt]

Piercing Damage = 2.5 * 18 + 1.5 * 12 = 63

[Damage Dealt]

After letting the rock fly at the rabbit, Gobumi quickly began scaling down the tree and rushed at the still dazed rabbit. She then quickly took out her knife and struck its throat, ending its life.

Seeing that everyone got their kill, Naruto began instructing them, "All right, bring me both rabbits so I can begin skinning them and can you also get me that flat rock over there," while pointing at a small but flat rock nearby.

He then reached into his knapsack and used it as cover to take out a pot form his [Inventory], and he put it to the side and unsheathed his skinning knife. The two girls by that point had brought him the other two rabbits and the rock he was going to use as a cutting board. He began to remove the horns off of the rabbits, before he began to work on skinning them. It felt like some other force out there was guiding his hands and helping him skin the rabbits and cut it apart. Finally done with the three rabbits, having taken out all of the edible cuts, which to goblins didn't matter, and then leaving the remains for some other animal to feast on. He closed the partially filled pot and put it back in his knapsack.

Seeing their hungry looks, he quickly told them. "Hold on you two, we can go hunt a couple more rabbits and have a large meal of cooked rabbit."

"What are you talking about this 'cooked' thing?" Gobue asked.

"Well, cooking is a way to make the food taste better" he responded.

"Oh, why didn't you just say so. Fine, let's go hunt some more rabbits!" she cheered.

Sweat dropping at her response he quickly cleaned the blood of his spear and knife using the skin of the rabbit, which he decided to throw away due to it being not that great. Seeing what he did the other two copied him, cleaning off the blood and gore using the discarded rabbit fur.

As they searched for more rabbits, Naruto found several herbs, mushrooms and other seasonings to help in cooking the rabbit meat. Luckily for him, he remembered the lessons in the academy about surviving in the wild.

Finally, they came across a lone youngling grazing on some grass, and Gobumi quickly took aim with her slingshot and let loose a rock towards the rabbit's head. Her attack struck the rabbit's head and it died quickly from that attack, but before they could go down to skin the animal, Naruto saw something moving quickly through the bushes. Motioning for the other two to stop and hide, what came out surprised the three of them.

A small scouting party of Black Wolves emerged, probably smelling or hearing the rabbit and got hungry. Grabbing the other two's attention, he began motioning for them to retreat, seeing as none of them could take on the wolves, and even if they did, this was just a scouting party and they might call for backup. Quickly and as quietly as they could the three young goblins escaped and made quite some distance from the wolves.

"I guess this must be why there aren't many rabbits out, these wolves must have strayed a bit farther from their pack, but hopefully they'll go back to where they came from." Naruto commented, feeling proud of his smart and wise deduction, which any average individual would have came to but he decided to ignore that small part of him saying that.

"Ugh … I am so hungry; can't we just eat the rabbits we have now?" Gobue whined at the other two.

"No, we don't have enough for the three of us, so we'll have to search a bit more" Gobumi placated her.

Continuing on their search, the three of them heard what sounded like a struggle, so moving towards that they found two adult rabbits fighting. The two rabbits were seemingly fighting for the dominant position, and seeing how they were fighting to the death, Naruto got an idea.

Whispering to the other two, as they watched from some distance, "Ok, looks like these two rabbits are fighting for dominance and probably to the death seeing as neither of them has yielded. What we should do is wait for one to die and quickly attack the likely injured winner."

"Didn't you say that attacking the adult rabbits would be a bit too much for us?" Gobue asked.

"Normally yes, but seeing as how there are no other rabbits around and that the winner will be injured, we don't have much choice. Waiting until the winner leaves in order to get the body of the loser isn't the smartest idea with the wolves out there."

"I agree with Gobunaruto, the remaining rabbit will be injured and tired from its fight, and we'll have the advantage of surprise on our side" Gobumi reassured Gobue.

Keeping an eye on the vicious fight over dominance, the three of them began planning their attack strategy. Gobumi showed the other two some sharp arrowhead shaped rocks she found and had the idea to try and blind the rabbit, something the other two agreed with. Naruto told Gobue that he'll keep its attention on him, and keep it coming after him while she gets ready to hit it.

He was met with resistance, but he responded by saying, "Look, right now I'm the one who can take the most damage, I have a longer ranged weapon and I'm the faster between the two of us. It only makes sense for me to distract it while you hit it hard and finish it off."

Grudgingly agreeing with his response, the three of them watched as one of the rabbits finished off the other, and they quickly got into position. Seeing that her friends and teammates getting in position stealthily, Gobumi found a good spot to fire at the rabbit, and quickly took aim at its head. Taking a steady breath, she then let go of the sharp rock and it went flying through the air heading towards the rabbit's eye.

Unfortunately for the three of them, at that moment the rabbit began to change before them, its muscles got more denser, its fur thicker and the most prominent change was that its horn changed into a blade. Right before their very eyes, the Horned Rabbit evolved into a Bladed Rabbit, something that would complicate their plan quite a bit. Fortunately, it's evolution didn't heal its injuries and it didn't change its size too much, so the rock that Gobumi shot found its way into the rabbit's eye, causing it to screech in pain.

[Damage Dealt]

Ranged Damage = 2 * 20 + 0.5 * 5 + 25 = 67

Stealth = 67 * 1.25 = 83

CRIT HIT! = 83 * 1.5 = 124

While surprised at the beast's evolution, upon hearing its loud screech, Naruto leapt out of his hiding spot and raced towards it with his spear aimed at it. Still thrashing around in pain and trying to dislodge the rock in its eye, the rabbit didn't notice him approaching it. Moving swiftly Naruto powered up his [Power Strike], and when he got in range, he attacked it aiming for its head, but because of its thrashing he ended up hitting its side.

[Damage Dealt]

Piercing Damage = 2.5 * 19 + 1.5 * 12 = 65

Power Strike = 65 + 32 = 97

Roaring in even more pain, due to the spear hitting it, it swung its head and hit Naruto as he got distracted by the popups, slashing him across the chest while also sending him into a tree.

[Damage Taken]

Slashing Damage = 115

Getting dazed from this attack, Naruto didn't notice that the rabbit finally got the rock out of its eye and was glaring furiously at him with the remaining eye. What he did notice was it beginning its charge at him and getting ready to slash, so he quickly held up his spear, which he luckily held unto, and blocked its attack. Unfortunately for Naruto, this caused him to hit the tree again and at the mercy of the rabbit.

[Damage Taken]

Impact Damage = 50

Suddenly and without warning, the rabbit let out a large cry of pain and was sent tumbling to the side. The cause of this, was Gobue hitting it with her War Pick.

[Damage Dealt]

Piercing Damage = 5 * 12 = 60

CRIT HIT! = 60 * 1.25 = 75

Seeing her friends in danger, Gobumi quickly shot several more rocks at the rabbit, rocks of the pointy variety.

[Damage Dealt]

Ranged Damage = 2 * 20 + 0.5 * 5 + 25 = 67 * 3 = 39

The rabbit realizing how close to dying it was, began trying to escape, but it wasn't that lucky, as Gobue and Naruto were both up and ready thanks to Gobumi's attack, so they quickly ended the rabbits suffering, courtesy of another attack from both of them.

Smiling and cheering at their kill, the three of them forgot about Naruto's injury, until he groaned and sat down. The other two quickly ran near and worriedly asked him what to do, but he quickly calmed them down.

"Calm down, the cut isn't too deep and I just need to wrap it with some bandages, why don't you two go and move the rabbits near each other while I treat my wound. That way I can quickly skin the rabbits and we can leave." Still worried, but trusting their teammate, they went to move the rabbits, as he took from his knapsack a couple rolls of bandages. Taking off his shirt, he began wrapping the bandages around his chest.

Naruto quickly began to feel better and began wondering why that is, when suddenly a window popped up in front of him.

[Item Used]

You used x1 Bandage and cancelled the [Bleeding] status effect.

[HP and MP Regen]

During combat HP and MP Regen are set to 25% of what they are.

'That sort of explains why I didn't really start healing until the rabbit went down. Information like this would have been handy to know earlier, ya know!' He angrily exclaimed in his head as he finished wrapping the bandages. After he was done, he looked at the slightly bloodied and damaged shirt in his hand while thinking what to do with it.

Deciding to wash it and reuse it for something else, he stuffed it in his inventory and took out another shirt and put it on. As Naruto began to get up, he winced at the pain that coursed through him from his injury, but he noticed that it began to fade away very quickly. Checking his health bar, something he noted would be more useful if he could always keep an eye on it, he saw that he began healing from the damage quite quickly. Wondering what that was about, he decided to think about this later after they were safe. Moving towards where Gobue and Gobumi moved the two large rabbits, he saw the worried looks they sent him and decided to placate them.

"Don't worry, the cut was shallow and not very deep, in fact it already started feeling better now that I wrapped it in bandages" Naruto reassured them, seeing him feeling better, they decided to believe him but were still going to keep an eye on him.

Moving towards the dead rabbits, Naruto started with removing the horn and blade off of the corpses. He then began thinking about how he almost died because of the notification, something he decided he was going to take care of immediately. Taking out the pot holding the rabbit meat, Naruto began removing meat from the two rabbits automatically while he was busy dealing with the issues with his ability.

Happy with his choices, but deciding to come back to check them every once in a while, Naruto then noticed he was almost done with his task. Finishing up, he then put the pot back into his knapsack, and told his two teammates that they should go before the blood attracts predators. Checking his mini-map he saw that there was a river not too far from their position.

"Hey, I'm pretty sure there is a river nearby if I remember correctly, so why don't we go wash up there. That way we can get rid of the blood on us and even get rid of any predators that might try to follow our scent" Naruto proposed to his teammates.

"Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good idea, and we can also get something to drink" Gobumi added.

Leaving the remains of the rabbits, which would hopefully keep any predator's focus, the trio quickly began moving through the trees towards the river with Naruto leading. Naruto began thinking about the fight they were just in, 'I need to get stronger; the rabbit was just thrashing around and it scored a glancing hit on me and it still caused a lot of damage. I need to get some defensive [Skills] and some better armor, even a better weapon would do me good. Hmmm … the blade I got of the [Bladed Rabbit], I should check it out tonight and see how good it is.'

Naruto was snapped out of his thoughts upon reaching the river. Moving towards the water he cautiously kept watch in case anything tried attacking them, but seeing nothing come out he decided that it was safe enough. Telling his friends that it was safe, he took out his torn and bloodied shirt and began cleaning it downstream from where Gobue and Gobumi were drinking. After he finished washing his shirt, knife and himself, he drank some water to quench his thirst and saw that the other two were also done. Moving through the water the three of them shivered slightly at the cold water, before continuing to move.

After searching for around 15 minutes, the trio ended up finding a decently sized clearing not too far from the river. As they checked their surroundings and didn't find anything dangerous lurking around, the three goblins lowered their guard and entered the clearing. Naruto decided that this was a good place to start a fire for cooking, and remembering the survival training he underwent at the academy, he decided that a smokeless campfire was necessary. So, finding a tree on the edge of the clearing, Naruto broke off some of the bark off it and as he moved towards his two teammates, who shot him confused looks, he shaped it into a crude shovel shape.

Seeing the looks they were giving him, he grinned before quickly explaining to them that they were going to dig a small hole for the fire. Giving them the crude bark shovel, they quickly dug through the soft soil and had a decently sized hole.

"The hole looks great, now all we need is a bunch of firewood for the fire and some sticks to use as skewers. How about the three of us split up and gather the wood that we need?" Naruto asked his friends.

After thinking about it, the two of them agreed and the trio separated and began looking for the wood that they need. As he was gathering the needed items, Naruto heard a screech and turning around he saw something colorful flying at him. Reacting quickly as it neared him, he dropped the wood he was carrying, and realizing that it would take too long to draw his weapon quickly let out a punch that hit the creature and sent it to the ground. Still on guard, Naruto looked at the creature on the ground and realized that it was a [Seven Colored Bat]. Taking a closer look, he saw that it died, but he didn't drop his guard immediately, and instead looked around for any other attacker. Seeing none, he deduced that it was probably separated from its colony. Not taking any chances, he used [Observe] on it in order to check that it did die.

Commonly found in groups, these bats have wings that shine in 7 different colors. They tend to be inactive during the day and they live in caves. On their own, they are rather weak and easy to beat, but in large numbers, they are tricky to fight. There main form of attack is to bite and suck the blood out of their opponents, but this strategy only really works in large numbers.

Skills From Consumption: [Echolocation] (10%), [Pump Up] (5%), [Vampirephilia] (1%)

'Huh … I wonder what these [Skills] do?', Naruto wondered before pressing on them to see if he'll get anything, and to his surprise three new windows opened.

[Echolocation]

Bats and a few other animals utilize sound in order to detect their surroundings and communicate. This [Skill] allows the user to cast supersonic sound wave to inspect terrain allowing a greater sensory recognition of the area as well as minor detection ability.

[Pump Up]

A unique ability that allows the user to control blood flow, allowing the individual to increase their strength, dexterity and other stats. Use this ability for too long and exhaustion begins to kick in.

[Vampirephilia]

While you can eat and drink anything without any negative side effects, this ability allows the user to gain beneficial effects from drinking blood. The user is able to recover HP and MP from the consumption of blood, just like a vampire.

'Cool, those are some interesting [Skills], though I'm more interested in the first two, the last one is sort of creepy' Naruto thought with a shudder at the thought of sucking the blood out of someone.

"It would be a waste if I just leave this bat out here, and I am a bit hungry right now. I mean there's a lot of rabbit meat for the three of us, so me eating one small bat wouldn't really hurt anybody, would it?" Naruto pondered, unsure if he should eat this bat or take it with him. With his [Gamer's Mind] at play, he deduced that eating it now would be most beneficial as the bat had [Skills] he could benefit from. Slightly guilty, though he placated himself by deciding on taking a smaller portion of the rabbit meat, he quickly ate the bat raw, something that disgusted him a bit. However, a new window did popup in front of him.

Quickly pressing accept, Naruto saw a new window then pop up, one that told him about his new skill.

[Skill Created!]

As a result of eating a Seven Colored Bat, you have gained the Active skill [Echolocation]!

[Echolocation] (Active, Lvl: 1, Exp: 0/125): Bats and a few other animals utilize sound in order to detect their surroundings and communicate. This [Skill] allows the user to cast supersonic sound wave to inspect terrain allowing a greater sensory recognition of the area as well as minor detection ability.

Sensory Radius: 10 m

Chance to detect others: 50%

Chance to detect others hidden: 10%

MP Cost: 20 MP/sec

Happy with his newly acquired [Skill], he decided to try it out, and after doing so he stumbled from the sensory overload that happened. He had received information about everything in his radius, getting a very detailed and intimate knowledge about his surroundings. Just as quickly he recovered, and marveled at his new [Skill]. Looking at his Mini-Map he saw that it showed his radius of sensing and a more detailed image of it. Thinking about this new [Skill], he began seeing how useful it is, and seeing how his MP Regeneration is higher than the cost he decided to keep the skill activated. Naruto also figured that the skill would level up and improve the longer he kept it going, so picking up the wood that he dropped he continued his search for firewood.

In his search, Naruto wondered whether eating the bat gave one [Skill] because the other two had much lower chances or if it was because he could only get one [Skill] per animal or beast. Deciding that he can't really answer that right now, he realized that throughout the entire hunt he didn't receive any notifications or messages about any XP he should have received. Just as he came to that conclusion a window suddenly popped up, surprising him and almost causing him to drop the wood he was carrying.

"Grr … can't you just have the windows pop up in a different way. Do you have to surprise me every time something comes up" Naruto ranted, when he remembered an option on the HUD menu. Quickly opening that, he found it, and remembered why he ignored it and passed it over. He didn't really get what it meant and it was slightly misleading, but now he did and he changed it.

Happy with this new change, he looked at the message that surprised him.

"Yosh! I levelled up!" Naruto cheered, happy with the progress he was making and began thinking about where to place his stat points. 'I know I said that placing them all into WIS would be the best option, but my STR is relatively low and I don't really have any way to get weights to train it.'

Thinking about this difficult decision, Naruto decided to leave them for now and save them in case of an emergency. 'Yeah, that's the best option for now. I really want to spend them in STR, but I know that it'll become even harder to train. While spending it in WIS would be a much smarter decision, I might end up in a situation where I need to have more stats somewhere else. So, it's decided, I'll leave my SP alone for now and focus on other things.'

Unaware that his reasonable and logical deductions were caused by his [Gamer's Mind] ability, he finished collecting the needed wood and began carrying them back to the clearing. He also remembered to collect some stuff to make tinder and kindling with. Seeing his two teammates waiting for him with a pile of wood on the ground.

"Hey! Have you been waiting for me for a while?" Naruto asked them, slightly embarrassed that he lost track of time.

"Not really, we just got here and were talking about some stuff, so don't worry" Gobumi reassured him.

Happy that he wasn't too late, Naruto placed the wood that he was carrying near the pile laying on the ground. He then began teaching his two friends how to build and start a smokeless fire, making sure to show them how to make the tinder and kindling needed. As he finishes showing them that and let them try copying him, he noticed a couple notifications appear, so using the excuse of searching for some flint in his knapsack he opened up the windows.

'Hmm, those [Skills] are okay, I guess. I mean they're not great, but I can see how they can be useful.' Naruto pondered as he took out a piece of flint he had in his knapsack. Looking at his two friends he saw that they were done making the tinder and kindling they needed. Naruto then began showing them how to actually light the fire by lighting some tinder, and had them try to light the fire.

As the duo worked on that, Naruto looked at some of the leftover pieces of wood and began working on trying to set up a way to let the skewers roast over the fire. He succeeded in making a primitive and crude wooden grill like structure, nothing special really, and he saw that the fire was finally started.

The three of them moved near the heat, something that they were grateful for, as the warmth drove away the chill from the water earlier. Seeing the fire, Naruto took out the meat and various seasonings and began showing the two other goblins how to season and prepare the rabbit meat, and he also showed them how to place them on the skewers. With the three of them working they got done pretty quickly and seeing how dirty their hands were, he told them to watch over the meat as he washes his hands and the pot.

As he moved towards the river, he opened up the window that appeared as they were preparing the meat.

[Recipe Learned: Roasted Seasoned Rabbit Meat]

As he finished washing his hands and the pot, being thankful that blood doesn't stain metal, he moved back to their small campsite happy with his new and useful skill. Getting back to camp, he saw that the girls were making sure that the meat doesn't get burnt, and moving towards them he told them to go wash up as he watches over the meat.

Getting back, the three of them waited by the fire as the meat cooked, and luckily as the pieces of meat were small, they cooked relatively quickly. The three of them enjoyed the deliciously cooked and seasoned rabbit meat, and Naruto was finally able to eat something that tasted good, other than the fruits and berries but those weren't really that fulfilling anyways.

As the trio were warming up near the fire, Naruto checked the time and saw that they had a couple of hours to kill before they need to go back to the cave. 'While the rabbit meat tasted great, I wonder how good other animals will taste like when cooked. Also, they probably have a bunch of useful [Skills] I can get, and they might even drop better loot than the rabbits. The only problem is that we don't know where any other animals are. We can't go after any wolves or bears or anything too dangerous so that only leaves bats and tanukis, maybe even snakes.'

"Hey, Gobumi, Gobue" Naruto suddenly began speaking, "do you want to start hunting animals other than rabbits?"

"Yeah! That sounds amazing!" Gobue cheered.

The slightly more logical and rational Gobumi asked, "Are you sure we can hunt more dangerous animals?"

"Yeah, I mean I'm not talking about hunting wolves or bears, but animals like bats and tanuki, maybe even snakes. The only problem is that we don't really know where they live, though I think I have some ideas on where they could be. So, what I was thinking is that since we have some free time, we go and search for places where we can find these animals. What do you think?"

"Hmm, that's not a bad idea and trying out how some other animals taste like would be nice." Gobumi said, showing her agreement to Naruto's decision.

Seeing as all three of them were in agreement, Naruto began put out the dwindling fire, and then followed his shinobi training by hiding and removing any trace of them being there. Naruto began doing this unconsciously, forgetting that he wasn't a shinobi anymore and that he had company around him. Fortunately, neither of his two partners mentioned anything, either they didn't care or didn't realize anything weird was happening.

Finishing up, Naruto began moving through the trees with his teammates following behind. They searched for some time, and they found several locations that had a lot of promise. As they were returning back to their cave, as it was beginning to get dark out, Naruto looked through some of the notifications that appeared.

Main Objective: Hunt some more exotic prey.

Seven Colored Bats: 0/30

Armored Tanuki: 0/10

Night Viper: 0/5

Main Objective Reward: 500 XP, Skill Book

[Accept/Decline]

'Woah! Of course [Accept], I mean why would I decline. I already was going to hunt more animals, but now I have an even bigger reason to do that, I can get a [Skill Book]. I wonder what [Skill] it will give me; I hope it's some awesome and powerful attack that destroys everything. Hehe, yeah that's probably it!' Naruto thought, ignoring the voice of reason telling him that the reward was likely going to be related to the quest.

Remembering something he noticed earlier, Naruto told Gobumi and Gobue, "you guys go on ahead, I'll follow you in a bit."

"Why, is there something wrong?" Gobumi asked, slightly worried seeing as it is nearing night time.

"Not really, I mean my spear got very damaged in the fight against that last rabbit, so I want to get a piece of wood to build a new one."

"Why didn't you get one when we were collecting firewood?" Gobumi asked him, slightly confused.

"Well, you see, I errr forgot … hehe" Naruto said while scratching the back of his head embrassed.

Deadpanning at his lackluster response Gobumi sighed told him not to stay out long as she and Gobue went to enter their cave.

Not wasting any time, Naruto began looking around for a branch that would work as a spear shaft. He found one relatively quickly and picked up some others just in case, and began moving towards the cave. Finally reaching it, he entered and saw some of the older Goblins looking at him questioningly. Telling them that he was a little late because he was getting a couple of things seemed to satisfy their curious gazes.

Moving through the cave, he saw that Gobue and Gobumi were relaxing and talking with some of the other Goblins, and while secretly wanting to join them he pushed through and entered their training area. Sitting down Naruto took out his crafting materials and looked over them wondering how he should start, and that's when he saw the blade he took from the [Bladed Rabbit]. Holding it in his hand and inspecting it, he realized that it would be perfect for making a dagger.

Taking a small piece of wood he had, he began carving it into a decent looking handle. After that it was like his hands were being guided by some mysterious force causing him to take the blade and fit it in, securing it and hammering it and several other actions which resulted in the creation of a pretty good dagger. Taking out some rocks he took from the river, he noticed he was beginning to hoard various items, he began working on sharpening the blade. Finally done, Naruto held it in one hand and gave it a few swings finding it nice and balanced, and he figured he'd use it instead of his spear when in tight spaces.

[Hand-Made Sharp Knife]

For a beginner with a very low [Weapon Crafting] skill, this knife is actually pretty good. Possessing an average length but sharp blade, this knife was made for combat. The high quality of this knife compared to the user's [Weapon Crafting] skill can be attributed to the quality of the blade.

Happy with his creation he began working on making it a sheath, and when he was done placed it on his waist, somewhere where he could quickly take the knife out. Focusing back onto his work he began working on his spear, beginning by carving the shaft out of the large branch he placed in his inventory. After making sure that the spear shaft was smooth and lacking splinters, Naruto began working on the attaching spear head. Doing something similar to what he did with his first spear, he attached the horn to the top of the spear shaft and used various strips of leather along with several nails to secure it further.

Almost done with the spear, Naruto wrapped the area where he would hold it with some leather and cloth in order to improve the grip. Finally done with his spear he looked at its stats and was happy with the results.

[Hand-Made Sharp Horn Spear]

Tentatively called a spear, considering it is the length of Goblin Naruto's body, which is less than half the height of an average human. This makes it more of a stick with a pointy end to it than a spear, but for a goblin it could work as a spear. Learning from earlier creations, Naruto was able to craft a relatively good spear, one that will allow him to defend himself and hunt the various denizens of the forest.

Testing out his new spear, Naruto was happy with the results and placed it into his [Inventory], deciding to sped the rest of his time for now training. The close brush from death earlier in the day made him realize just how weak goblins were compared to the rest of the world, and how weak he was right now.

Thinking about his training problem, which was the lack of any training weights, an idea suddenly popped into his head. Taking out his [Dwarven Backpack], Naruto began filling it with rocks, and after it was full, he made sure that it wouldn't rip or tear. Fortunately for him, it seems that dwarven made products are of a very high quality. Placing it on his back he immediately felt the weight of the rocks and began his training.

After an hour and a half of intense training consisting of laps, push-ups, sit-ups, squats and various other exercises, Naruto fell to the ground exhausted. Taking off the heavy backpack, he began trying to breathe regularly with little success. While the backpack wasn't heavier than the rock he trained with the day before, the difference was how harder he pushed himself. While trying to relax, Naruto looked at the notifications he received.

Hey guys, so originally this chapter was going to be much much longer, but I decided to end it here and upload, that way I don't keep you guys waiting even longer. Sorry about that, I know how much you guys hate waiting for a new chapter to be out, just like I hate waiting for another chapter of fics I read to be out. Hopefully from now on I will be more consistent and regular with writing the chapters and uploading them.

I really like it when you guys comment, as it allows me to see what you guys think about my writing and stuff like that.

So, I know I said that I won't be doing other fics until I reach some arc or something, but ignore that. I'm thinking of starting a Naruto/One Piece crossover, starting with a different East Blue arc (small differences really, I will include the fillers) with a stronger Luffy. Naruto will be Chopper's brother (like mellra's challenge but also quite different) and he will be a fox mink (looks like a human Kurama but with blond hair, I can't really describe him here) and will eventually eat the Rumble-Rumble fruit (it was his mother's fruit, something which I would explain). The only real problem I'm having with this idea is what to do with Ace and the entire Marineford arc (I don't want Ace and Whitebeard to die, but that plays a major role in the second part of the series, so if you guys have any idea, please do tell me). Also, Naruto won't be a doctor or smart in general (he'd basically be canon Naruto with some slight tweaks like being more naïve like Chopper) and his role would be doctor's assistant (just cause he's not a doctor doesn't mean he can't work well with Chopper and help him). His dream is to become the strongest man in the world so he can protect everything and everyone he cares about.
